HeiQ Unveils HeiQ Skin Care – A Probiotics-Infused Textile Technology

HeiQ Skin Care transforms the human’s largest organ into the best-looking one

ZÜRICH — November 20, 2023 — HeiQ introduces a 100-percent biobased and long-lasting cosmetic finishing technology for textiles to the market. The newest addition to the HeiQ portfolio harnesses the power of active probiotics and selected prebiotics to enhance the skin microbiome, turning the human’s largest organ into the best-looking one.

HeiQ, a global supplier of textile innovation, is proud to announce the launch of HeiQ Skin Care technology for next-to-skin apparel and home textiles. This revolutionary proprietary technology, 100-percent biobased and meticulously designed, marks a significant advancement in textile innovation.

HeiQ Skin Care releases active probiotics for a balanced skin microbiome

HeiQ Skin Care is a synbiotic textile finish aimed at providing a balanced microbiome for glowing skin, even after repeated use and washing of textiles. Unlike conventional products, HeiQ Skin Care utilizes slow-release prebiotics and probiotics seamlessly integrated into a biobased textile matrix, enriching the skin’s microbiome diversity, and offering long-lasting cosmetic benefits.

The synergistic combination of prebiotics and probiotics, known as synbiotics, delivers a soothing cosmetic skin treatment while we relax, work, or sleep. Probiotics not only restore and improve the skin’s natural balance but also enhance its self-repair capabilities. Synbiotics promote skin renewal, rebalancing, and improved appearance, reducing the signs of aging and establishing a favorable environment for the skin’s natural repair mechanisms.

“HeiQ Skin Care represents a leap forward in textile innovation, combining the power of probiotics and prebiotics to enhance skin microbiome and overall skin appearance. It is another way of delivering our promise of improving the lives of billions, which is at the core of everything we do at HeiQ”, says Mike Abbott, Head of HeiQ Textiles & Flooring Business Unit. “Our technology is a testament to HeiQ’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what textiles can achieve, and we are excited to showcase it at ISPO Munich 2023.”

A second skin that takes care of the first

Our skin, the largest organ in human body, is home to a diverse community of microorganisms called the skin microbiome. It plays a crucial role in maintaining  good skin condition, acting as a protective barrier against harmful agents. However, various factors, such as hormones, genes, diet, smoking, environmental exposures, and excessive UV radiation, can disrupt its balance, leading to skin conditions like rashes, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, skin irritation, redness, eczema, and odor. Maintaining a balanced skin microbiome is essential for preserving skin integrity.

HeiQ Skin Care is suitable for all textile fibers, both natural and synthetic, and can be applied to all textile items that come in direct contact with the skin. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for daily use- at work, during sports, leisure activities, or as bedding items like bed sheets and pillows.

Intensive wear trials conducted during the development stage have proven the consistent release of synbiotics (prebiotics and probiotics) onto the skin, creating conditions to foster a well-balanced microbiome.

Visit HeiQ at ISPO Munich 2023 to experience the future of wearable skincare through textiles. Discover how HeiQ Skin Care is set to redefine the way of thinking about textile innovation and well-being. Meet HeiQ in Hall C1 – Booth 501, in München Messe, Germany, on 28-30 November.

ALLIED Feather + Down’s Revolutionary ExpeDRY Down Insulation Adopted Across Jack Wolfskin’s FW24 Hydrophobic Down Line

Jack Wolfskin ExpeDRY down insulation jacket and pants

MONTEBELLO, Calif. — November 21, 2023 — After an extremely successful retail launch, ALLIED Feather + Down, industry leaders in high performance and hydrophobic down insulation, is proud to announce Jack Wolfskin, creators of innovative, eco-conscious outdoor apparel, equipment, and footwear will replace current, chemical-intensive hydrophobic down with ALLIED’s ExpeDRY throughout their fall/winter 2024 hydrophobic down apparel line.

Poised to render current, chemical-intensive treatments obsolete, ExpeDRY down insulation is cleaner and better performing than all other hydrophobic down technologies. Created in partnership with FUZE Technologies and relying on gold particles permanently bonded to down plumes, ExpeDRY is PFAS-free, permanent, and far better at keeping insulated jackets dry and warm in any outdoor environment.

“Traditional hydrophobic chemistry works great when in direct contact with water droplets, and is effectively used on jacket shell material to keep water out,” said Matthew Betcher, Creative Director with ALLIED. “However, for insulation, the needs are much different. In real world situations, the down in jackets more often comes into contact with humidity and water vapor, where traditional hydrophobic chemistry is far less efficient. ExpeDRY, however, actively works to keep this vapor from condensing, allowing it to evaporate more easily, keeping the entire insulation chamber, and the user, dryer and warmer.”

Beyond performance, there is a very real environmental need to limit – or eliminate – the use of chemicals throughout the manufacturing process.

“As responsible manufacturers, we should all be looking to remove chemicals in our supply chain, whether they are currently considered “acceptable” or not,” continues Betcher. “It wasn’t all that long ago that PFAS chemicals were considered safe, and as environmental metrics change, going chemical-free is the only way to stay ahead.”

As we explore how different chemicals drive climate change and adversely affect human health, it becomes clear that we still have a long way to go to create a sustainable future. According to new studies recently published by Scientific American, “in the European Union alone, some 80 percent of human-made chemicals have been used without testing for more than a decade.” This lack of testing has allowed harmful chemicals to be used for years before their true, negative impacts are understood.

Jack Wolfskin ExpeDRY down insulation jacket

Starting in Fall 24, chemical-free ExpeDRY down can be found in several new Jack Wolfskin apparel lines, including the Discovery series and the urban Pioneer series.

“We are incredibly excited to work with brands like Jack Wolfskin to help reduce their overall chemical use while maintaining — or even increasing — performance in their technical products,” added Betcher. “We look forward to driving this revolution and working with all of our partners towards this goal.”

“The continuous development in the field of sustainability combined with performance and technological long-term solutions is an important task for our industry. We are very excited to be the first brand to bring the new eco-friendly technology in our new FW24 products to market,” said Regina Goller, director Fabric & Trim Management, Jack Wolfskin.

Now available through manufacturers based across China, ExpeDRY is affordable, widely available, and ready to scale, giving brands an easy way to increase performance while reducing the environmental impacts associated with the reduction of chemical usage.
