MOORDRECHT, the Netherlands — February 20, 2020 — Texo Trade Services (TTS) — a specialists in transfer print media and large format, printable textiles — has acquired Rootring Papier B.V. in Utrecht, the Netherlands. For 50 years, Rootring has specialised in resizing, reconditioning, cutting, rewinding and sheeting all kinds of paper. With its modern machinery and a capacity to process rolls up to 370 meters wide, and weighing as much as 6,000 kilograms each, Rootring Paper occupies a unique position in the wholesale trade and industry. Its paper saw, which is used to cut mother rolls of paper, and its 370 centimeters (cm) wide paper winder are the only ones of their kind in Europe. National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) President and CEO Kim Glas Issues Textile Industry Statement on Coronavirus

WASHINGTON — February 25, 2020 — National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) President and CEO Kim Glas issued the following statement today on the industry’s response to the coronavirus crisis.

“The coronavirus has impacted Asian textile and apparel manufacturing productivity and output, and our concerns lie with the affected companies and workers during this terrible crisis.

The U.S. textile industry continues to be ready, able, and willing to help in any way possible. Our industries have been in touch with U.S. government officials to help identify key U.S. textile suppliers to provide surgical masks and other items to help contain the spread of the coronavirus. In addition, several companies have donated much-needed medical textile supplies and other sanitary items to help address this outbreak.

Given the uncertainty in the market as a result of the coronavirus, many textile and apparel sourcing executives are seeking alternatives outside of Asia. We stand ready to assist brands and retailers looking to shift sourcing during this uncertain time. The Western Hemisphere production platform established under our free trade agreements and trade preference programs provides a sound alternative as companies look to diversify their sourcing. The region has immediate capacity to meet worldwide demands with duty-free access through well-established supply chains.

Whether this terrible crisis lasts days, months, or longer — our member companies are ready and willing to help.”

NCTO is a Washington-based trade association that represents domestic textile manufacturers, including artificial and synthetic filament and fiber producers.

  • U.S. employment in the textile supply chain was 594,147 in 2018.
  • The value of shipments for U.S. textiles and apparel was $76.8 billion in 2018.
  • U.S. exports of fiber, textiles and apparel were $30.1 billion in 2018.
  • Capital expenditures for textile and apparel production totaled $2.0 billion in 2017, the last year for which data is available.

Quantum Accelerates $3.5 Million Capital Investment To Expand U.S. Production of Technical Textiles

GREENSBORO, N.C. – February 25, 2020 – Quantum Materials (Quantum), a manufacturer of custom, advanced textiles, is accelerating its investments in new manufacturing equipment to meet increased demand for domestic production capabilities. The Greensboro, N.C.-based company will spend $3.5 million to further diversify its business with customized state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to support research, development and manufacturing for non-traditional and high-performance woven textile solutions.

While the company had budgeted for capital investments in the latter half of 2020, global supply chain disruptions and market voids have generated a surge of interest in specialized domestic production capabilities. Quantum has a vertically integrated structure to manufacture a wide range of high-performance yarns and fabrics offering advanced textile solutions to its diverse customer base.

“Over the last 18 months, our R&D team has been working on proprietary, custom equipment designed to give us the flexibility to work in any textile-related industry needing specialized yarns and/or fabrics,” said Jeff Bruner, Quantum founder and vice chairman. “We made the decision to fast track this project so that we can be a domestic resource due to many of the current global dynamics affecting our industry.”

In developing high performance mono-filament elastomeric yarns, now known as the original 5280™ yarn technology, Quantum has built a reputation for innovation and quality among leading contract furniture manufacturers and other manufacturing industries.

This new expansion will support growth in all areas of business, with an emphasis on growing the non-traditional textile segment. Today, the company supplies a range of specialized, custom fabrics to companies with needs in an array of industries, including filtration fabrics, woven tire cord, tubular belting, transparent window screens and other confidential government associated projects.

FESPA 2020: Durst Presents The Successful P5 350 Hybrid Printing System, Extensive Software Solution And Textile Applications With Pigment Inks

BRIXEN, Italy — February 24, 2020 — Durst, manufacturer of advanced digital printing and production technologies, continues the success story of the P5 digital production platform, Stand A20 Hall 7, at FESPA 2020 in Madrid, Spain, from 24-27 March. The focus of its show presence will be the P5 350 printing system with extended features, options and inks to perfect the hybrid variety of applications for roll media and boards.

In line with Durst’s own pixel-to-output strategy, the printing system is supplied with workflow software for print preparation and analytics software for processing real production parameters. This enables the customer to start production immediately. Accordingly, Durst accompanies the machine installation with extensive software training and services. Since the official launch of the new P5 production platform with the P5 350 and P5 210 printing systems at Fespa 2019 in Munich, more than 50 installations have been implemented worldwide, which documents the attractiveness of the overall package.

The Durst Professional Services (DPS) with modular software modules for pre-press or the networking of several printing systems present what further business opportunities and optimization potential the pixel-to-output strategy offers. For the web-based product presentation and customer communication, DPS offers with Smart Shop a web shop solution that can be fully integrated from the online catalog or configurator to the printing system. LiftERP, an enterprise resource planning software especially for print service providers, will  also be presented. This has already been implemented with over 20 customers in the USA and will be localized for the European market this year. The Durst booth will be flanked by textile application presentations, with a focus on pigment inks, which is increasingly becoming a universal solution in industrial textile printing.

“We are looking forward to FESPA in Madrid and have the state-of-the-art P5 production platform with us,” said Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of the Durst Group. “The high demand for our P5 printing systems is unbroken, the workflow and analytics software is continuously being developed, but we also see the increased need for information and training among customers, which we also address with expanded services. It is exciting for us to see the level of integration in which our solutions are used. While some are satisfied with the pure RIP function and the print quality, we implement complex web-to-print production infrastructures with others. For us, the focus is always on the Durst printing system, which can be integrated into the production processes with the respective Durst software and can be modularly scaled depending on the scope.”
