3M Will Showcase Its Latest Textile Innovation At The NW Material Show And Premiere Vision Sport

ST. PAUL, Minn. — August 5, 2022 — 3M will showcase its latest fabric-based advancement, 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn, at The NW Material Show and Premiere Vision Sport, which takes place August 10-11 in Portland, Ore. 3M will be located at booth 213 with its partner, TLC.

Introduced in June as the latest addition to 3M’s ever-evolving product mix of textile solutions, the new Greige yarn is specially crafted for the development of durable, moisture-managing fabrics, which allows apparel manufacturers to create dual-action water-repellent/moisture-wicking activewear and flyknit shoes that can perform in demanding outdoor settings.

“We’re really excited to bring 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn to the market,” said Robert Polik, 3M senior application engineer. “It’s an innovative solution that will not only open new doors for mills to develop new textiles, but also enable global brands to create activewear and outdoor gear with robust, repellent performance.”

Pretreated with Scotchgard™ Protector, 3M’s durable water repellent, 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn is inherently repellent. 3M in-house testing indicates that using inherently repellent yarn offers the following benefits over padding repellent onto the same style of fabric: can brings efficiency to fabric manufacturing and dyeing processes, can save production time and cost, increase throughput, minimize water and chemical waste on fabric, reduce chalk mark complaints, eliminate the need for wet finishes on fabric, and deliver easy, uniform color treatment.

When held to the testing standards of the AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) and the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn received highest possible ratings for spray testing , anti-wicking, and flex-durability.

“With this new yarn, we’re helping mills overcome common challenges they face with inconsistent treatment, namely investing extensive time and money to find the right recipes for formulas for each fabric,” Polik said. “Mills typically obtain unstable outputs from batch to batch due to varying production conditions. 3M’s treated yarn solves this problem by simplifying the process  for improved fabric manufacturing efficiency.”

Throughout 2022, 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn will be featured at other global events, including PERFORMANCE DAYS in Munich (Nov.3-4)

Additional 3M textile-based innovations are projected for release later this year and early 2023. For sales and/or further details, please contact Derek Wei (dwei1@mmm.com) or Totti Liang (tliang2@mmm.com).

E.U.-India Free Trade Negotiations: An Opportunity To Rebalance Trade Relations And Promote A Global Sustainable Textile Industry

BRUSSELS — August 4, 2022 — Today’s trade relations between the E.U. and India in textiles and clothing are characterized by a large and systemic trade deficit for the E.U.; annual imports from India exceed 6 billion euros (2021) – making it the 4th supplier — while E.U. exports to India reached just half a billion — the 20th place in our export markets.

Against this background, the free trade negotiations are an opportunity to rebalance that relationship; European textile and clothing companies can offer high quality and innovative products for the Indian market, but they can also offer solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of the textile industry.

EURATEX, as the voice of textiles and apparel manufacturers in Europe, supports an ambitious E.U. trade agenda, that puts reciprocity, transparency, fair competition and equal rules at the centre of its action. The FTA is an opportunity to establish a more sustainable and fair trading system, based on rules, global environmental and social standards, which are effectively respected by all.

In this context, EURATEX highlights that the sector needs open and efficient markets, but combined with effective controls where necessary, thus ensuring level playing field for European companies. It is clearly essential that the same level of market access to India — both in terms of tariff and non-tariff barriers — is available to E.U. producers as vice versa.

India today benefits from reduced customs duties due to GSP. For European companies instead, market access to India is challenging, facing non-tariff barriers (related to proof of origin, quality control procedures, etc.) as well as national or state-level support programs which distort the level playing field between E.U. and Indian companies.

That level playing field should also apply to our sustainability targets. As the E.U. will roll out its E.U. Textile Strategy, setting ambitious standards and restrictions (e.g. on chemicals), we must ensure the FTA is fully aligned with that strategy.

Director General Dirk Vantyghem commented: “We look to these negotiations with great interest. The FTA is an opportunity to develop a shared ambition between the European and Indian industry to make sustainable textiles the norm, and to create a regulatory framework where our companies can compete in a free and fair environment.”

NNT And Polygiene Team Up To Create New Frontline Workwear Uniforms For Health Professionals

MALMÖ, Sweden — August 4, 2022 — If you work in a high-pressure environment, you want to feel fresh and comfortable. When it’s a medical or care workplace, the added advantage of clothing that’s not just smart but also inhibits bacterial growth is obvious. To tick all these boxes, NNT and Polygiene have teamed up to create a new range of protective uniforms and scrubs for health professionals.

The new workwear, marketed under the Workwear Group logo, incorporates Polygiene’s innovative StayFresh™ technology. StayFresh specifically works to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria in fabric. Polygiene’s principle of “Wear more. Wash less” means that treated garments can be washed less frequently, saving time, water, and energy.

This not only reduces the use of valuable resources but also cuts the number of potential pollutants released into the environment, such as detergents and microfibres from the clothes themselves. It also prolongs the garment’s life, creating more sustainable work wear that lasts longer, has less bacterial load even after repeated wearing, and smells fresher.

How does it work?

Polygiene StayFresh uses a patented silver salt solution that’s been tested rigorously by independent laboratories for its safety and effectiveness. It’s anti-microbial and inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria. As it’s incorporated into the garments during the manufacturing process, it keeps on working for the lifetime of the garment.

The results are scrubs and uniforms that give the wearer personal confidence and all-day freshness but that don’t cost the earth in energy or resources. The potential for expansion into other areas is substantial, and both Polygiene and NNT see the advantages of a wide range of uniforms and workwear going forward.

Polygiene’s proven track record

Polygiene’s proven track record in creating effective antimicrobial and anti-odor technology has encouraged NNT to partner up with the Scandinavian company.

”NNT is proud to partner with Polygiene, a trusted global brand used by fashion brands all over the world, for use on our scrubs fabrics,” commented NNT Senior Designer Ann Morgan. “We chose them because the durability of the Polygiene finish has been tested and proven to last for 100 washes, plus it’s bluesign® approved, meaning that it’s more environmentally conscious. It’s aligned with our company values for ethical and social responsibility,” she adds.

A bright future

The new range of workwear is already available within the Workwear Group portfolio under the brand NNT Uniforms. It includes NNT Next-Gen Active Scrubs, NNT Vital Scrubs, and NNT Petal Print ranges. Uptake on these ranges is predicted to grow considerably over the next 12 months. In the last six months, orders have already reached an impressive 300,000 units.

NNT has been on the frontline of uniform manufacturing since 1962, working alongside frontline workers. They take real pride in designing uniforms created using the input of the people who wear them every day.

Evolution that combines fashion and function

Today, NNT partners with many organizations ranging from some of the world’s best-known brands through to small businesses. As a result, the NNT collection continues to evolve to help even more organizations succeed with a compelling combination of fashion and function.

“We are proud to partner with NNT to grow our offering within the WWG portfolio, a respected global provider, of high quality and performance workwear”, shares Ulrika Björk, Polygiene CEO. Björk continues, “The added value of Polygiene StayFresh performance in these scrubs will provide the frontline in the healthcare industry the confidence of a hygienic uniform as well as confidence in a fresh uniform when in a public arena. We look forward to continuing to grow our partnership in the seasons to come.”

Tonello Presents EVOLUTION 3, The Latest Generation Of Washing And Dyeing Machines

SARCEDO, Italy  — August 3, 2022 — Evolution 3, the new generation of Tonello’s signature washing and dyeing machines, is the amazing fruit of years of research, experimentation and continuous improvement.

The goal of Evolution 3 is simply excellence.

All the innovations implemented in Evolution 3 washing machines further reduce water and energy consumption, increase productivity, and lower energy and maintenance costs.

And without compromising on performance, because balancing these needs is critical in an increasingly competitive and sustainability-conscious market. And it makes all the difference.

Beyond Beauty, First-Class Technical Content

In the Evolution 3, the tried-and-tested machine construction allows for maximum optimization of water use during each type of process, as well as huge energy savings provided by several improvements:

  • The new high-efficiency motors are built with materials that reduce losses and consumption and increase overall machine efficiency;
  • The optimized transmission with new high-efficiency belts absorbs less energy and promotes greater durability and wear resistance than previous models; the machine is also more compact;
  • We improved the entire transmission system to achieve greater energy savings than conventional systems;
  • With the new inverters, we have perfected motor control, reducing vibration and stress; and
  • The tropicalized electronic boards are more reliable and withstand better even when placed in the more “harsh” environments of the laundry and dyeing plant.

Thanks to these improvements, Tonello’s Evolution 3 line of washing and dyeing machines enable energy savings of up to 20 percent compared to previous models, reduce overall operating costs and contribute to greater competitiveness in an increasingly unpredictable market.

In addition, the improvements cover the entire range (high, medium and low-speed machines).

In short, with Evolution 3, the iconic Tonello quality rises to the next level. In fact, there is no washing machine on the market today that has better total-cost ownership than the Tonello washing machine.

Premium Materials And Even More Advanced Production Systems: For Greater Durability And Wear Resistance

Designed for maximum performance, all machines in the Evolution 3 line are built with the best stainless steels: AISI 316L, for example, is used in the most critical applications, in internal parts in contact with the bath, and in all electrical cabinets, resulting in increased resistance to corrosion and wear.

Quality, strength and durability are also favored by drum welds made by a high-precision anthropomorphic robot on an automated station.

The entire Evolution 3 range is designed to be flexible and further improvable in the future (because, remember, Tonello machines do not age, they evolve).

In fact, they are prepared for the installation of accessory technologies and kits — such as OBleach, Core, UP, NoStone®, N2, Wake — and, of course, Metro and Mago Site Manager software programs.

In addition, the new more compact design offers greater adaptability and ease of placement and integration in the laundry and dyeing plant.

In summary, Here Are The Main Advantages Of The New Evolution 3:

  • New performance motors that increase overall efficiency;
  • New high-efficiency belts that optimize transmission;
  • Improved overall transmission system, resulting in energy savings;
  • Significant water savings ensured by a low bath ratio (LR 3:1/2:1);
  • Tropicalized electronic boards;
  • Welding by high-precision robots;
  • Easily implemented and upgradable washing machines; and
  • Increased reliability, safety and solidity.
