Boll & Branch Launches Origin Track: Allowing Customers To Trace The Full Journey Of Their Bedding From Seed To Sheet

SUMMIT, N.J. — April 22, 2024 — Boll & Branch, a luxury bedding and home decor brand, has introduced Origin Track, a new technology platform allowing customers to trace the complete journey of their bedding from seed to sheet. Boll & Branch reports it is the first to offer direct insight into its supply chain, showcasing every stage of production — from the farms where materials are sourced, to where the cotton is spun, ginned, dyed, cut, and constructed. Origin Track ensures that every item produced by Boll & Branch, past and present, is fully traceable, solidifying the company’s unique commitment to transparency and sustainability.

Origin Track offers an immersive digital experience, hosted on the Boll & Branch website. By entering the unique lot number into Origin Track, found on a product’s tag, customers can unlock the story behind their purchase. The experience provides detailed insights into the origins of the product, spotlights the skilled makers and a rich tradition of expertise, and traces the item’s journey from the farm right to the customer’s home.

Since its launch in 2014, Boll & Branch has challenged every conventional standard. The company established a better end-to-end system, working directly with family-owned farms and factories to ensure traceability at every step. This principle has guided all verticals of the business, with the company meticulously documenting the journey of every product it has ever created. Now, for the first time, Boll & Branch is extending this level of transparency to its customers through the introduction of Origin Track.

“Our new Origin Track platform is not just an innovation, it’s retail transparency redefined,” said Scott Tannen, Co-Founder and CEO of Boll & Branch. “This technology is the heartbeat of Boll & Branch and transforms how we engage with our customers. When we reveal the origins of our products, we’re not just sharing facts, we’re opening a dialogue with our customers about the integrity and fairness of our decisions across the supply chain. From day one, we’ve pledged to offer transparency that’s both informative and actionable, ensuring every product we craft can be traced back to its raw materials. We are proud to say that our customers will no longer just own a product, they’ll understand its story.”

CARBIOS Celebrates The Groundbreaking Of Its PET Biorecycling Plant, A World First, With Its Partners

LONGLAVILLE, France — April 25, 2024 — CARBIOS today celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the world’s first PET biorecycling plant in the presence of representatives of local authorities, partner brands and industrial partners who all make up CARBIOS’ ecosystem. Located in Longlaville, in the Grand-Est region of France, CARBIOS’ first commercial plant will play a key role in the fight against plastic pollution, offering an industrial-scale solution for the enzymatic depolymerization of PET waste in order to accelerate a circular economy for plastic and textiles.

The plant will have a processing capacity of 50kt/year of prepared waste when operating at full capacity. Work is progressing on schedule with significant quantities delivered to customers in 2026.

PET, the second most widely used plastic in the world, is mainly manufactured from oil. Thanks to CARBIOS’ enzymatic biorecycling technology, PET will no longer be made from oil, but from its own waste. This technological breakthrough opens up new recycling streams for multilayered, coloured and opaque trays made from packaging waste and polyester textile waste, which until now have been little or not recycled at all, giving them value. In addition, this breakthrough positions France as a pioneer in green innovation, contributing to its reindustrialization and leadership in the transition to a sustainable economy.

In a LinkedIn post published on 24 April 2024, Emmanuel Macron, President of France, said: “A technological revolution is taking shape tomorrow with the groundbreaking ceremony of CARBIOS’ plant in Longlaville: the world’s first biorecycling plant. French pride! Ecological transition and growth, made in France and innovation go hand in hand.”

Christophe Béchu, Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion: “At a time when governments are negotiating an international treaty against plastic pollution in Ottowa, the groundbreaking of CARBIOS’ biorecycling plant is particularly significant. It illustrates France’s commitment to the ecological transition, and demonstrates our ability to turn challenges into opportunities for a more sustainable future. This plant, a world first, embodies French innovation in responding to complex environmental challenges, offering a sustainable solution for a future where plastic and textile waste will be transformed into valuable resources for a truly circular economy.”

Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry: “This inauguration is emblematic of the green industrial revolution that we have been implementing for the past year: French technology that is sustainable, innovative and creates jobs. It is also emblematic of the method I am applying with all industrial sectors: the ecology of the contract. With the financial and administrative support of the French government, the new CARBIOS plant in Longlaville will remove a major technological barrier to the development of the textile recycling industry in France.”

Franck Leroy, President of Région Grand-Est: “I’m proud to support the deployment of the world’s first plant dedicated to the biorecycling of PET. CARBIOS is a perfect illustration of our vision of modern, responsible re-industrialisation, placing the Grand Est region at the heart of the ecological transition. This key innovation in the fight against plastic pollution will also create 150 jobs in the Longlaville area.”

Emmanuel Ladent, CEO, CARBIOS: “At CARBIOS, we have turned a vision into reality with the groundbreaking of the world’s first PET biorecycling plant. Our revolutionary enzymatic depolymerization technology marks the beginning of a new era in plastic recycling, moving away from dependence on oil to a circular economy fuelled by PET waste itself. CARBIOS continues its mission by collaborating with strategic partners around the world and embarking on a promising commercial and international deployment. I would like to thank our partner brands and industrial partners present, particularly L’Oréal Groupe, L’Occitane en Provence, PUMA, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe, Salomon, On, CITEO and Novonesis for their contribution to the success of this historic event.”

Philippe Pouletty, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CARBIOS: “We can help save the planet thanks to science, passionate teams, private and public funding to meet industrial and commercial stakes, and loyal partners. This groundbreaking ceremony for the Longlaville plant marks the start of our industrial and commercial roll-out to make CARBIOS a world leader in plastic recycling in the coming years.”

Antoine Vanlaeys, Chief Operating Officer, L’Oréal Groupe: “We are delighted to be a long-standing partner of CARBIOS: an adventure that began nearly seven years ago with the co-founding of a consortium to industrialize the biorecycling of plastic, then in 2019 with our participation in the capital increase carried out by CARBIOS through our private equity fund BOLD, Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development. The groundbreaking ceremony for CARBIOS’ PET biorecycling plant is another key milestone. It confirms the scaling up of this pioneering technology, which contributes to the sustainable management of the plastic life cycle. We believe in the power of collaboration to build solutions for the future with our partners and get closer every day to reaching our sustainable development objectives. The partnership between L’Oréal Groupe and CARBIOS is testament to this.”

The world’s first PET biorecycling plant

CARBIOS’ technology enables PET circularity and provides an alternative raw material to fossil-based monomers, giving PET producers, waste management companies, public bodies and brands an effective solution to meet regulatory requirements and their own commitments to sustainable development.

The plant will have the capacity to process 50,000 tons of prepared PET waste per year (equivalent to 2 billion colored bottles, 2.5 billion food trays or 300 million T-shirts). The plant will create 150 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

In October 2023, CARBIOS obtained the building and operating permits for the site. The factory is currently under construction on land officially acquired from Indorama Ventures on 14 February 2024.

In February 2024, CARBIOS and De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) announced their collaboration to manage construction. Several feedstock supply agreements, notably with CITEO and Landbell Group, will secure the vast majority of the raw materials required. Close to the borders with Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg, the plant’s location is strategic for access to nearby waste supplies.

As part of France 2030, CARBIOS will receive grants totaling €54 million from French State and Grand-Est Region.

France 2030 is an investment plan on an unprecedented scale. €54 billion will be invested to ensure that companies, universities and research organizations are in a position to respond competitively to the ecological and attractiveness challenges of the world ahead, and to foster the emergence of future leaders in our sectors of excellence, particularly in the field of ecological transition. From fundamental research, to the emergence of an idea, to the production of a new product or service, France 2030 supports the entire life cycle of innovation, right through to industrialization.

TextileGenesis And EON Join Forces To Offer Fashion And Textile Players An Unrivaled Level Of Traceability And Transparency

PARIS — April 23, 2024 — A Lectra Group company, TextileGenesis, a platform for the fashion and textile industries to ensure material traceability, today announced a transformative collaboration with EON, the leader in product digitization, enabling retail brands to turn products into traceable, valuable assets through the creation of Digital IDs.

This collaboration will enable brands to create comprehensive Digital Product Passports (DPP) that connect the entire material and product life cycle, and leverage this intelligence to optimize supply chains, provide more transparent information to customers, meet legislative demands and scale circular business models.

The new TextileGenesis and EON collaboration will address key issues for fashion brands

The fashion industry is currently undergoing a major evolution, moving in just a few years from no legal framework to a surge of sustainability regulations worldwide, requiring it to be able to trace all stages of its value chain.

Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are now the top priority for fashion brands and at the heart of sweeping global legislative agenda. In the EU, for example, the European Commission is about to adopt a Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products, which will set information requirements on sustainability aspects for products sold in the EU provided through a Digital Product Passport. DPPs will require all brands selling products in Europe to provide information on the traceability and life cycle of their products through a Digital Product Passport. DPPs aim to help consumers to identify and choose more sustainable products and accelerate downstream business models such as repair, resale and recycling.

The collaboration between TextileGenesis and EON will support the implementation of DPPs while unlocking new business capabilities for brands:

  • With a DPP, products become interactive and can deliver reliable and transparent product supply chain data to customers throughout the product life cycle via an embedded data carrier (QR Code, NFC chop, etc.). This enables brands to increase customer engagement and trust and meet expectations for transparency.
  • The ability to collect robust data on products and materials and share with circular businesses to scale models such as resale, repair and recycling.
  • New intelligence into the end-to-end product lifecycle to optimize supply chains and gain new competitive advantages.
  • An efficient way to manage compliance with existing and future regulations (e.g. AGEC, ESPR, etc).

Thanks to the integration of TextileGenesis and EON platforms, data silos will be removed and fashion brands will benefit from an unparalleled level of traceability

TextileGenesis and EON are two technological pioneers in fashion traceability. TextileGenesis has created an innovative, totally reliable and secure technology that offers complete traceability of sustainable and conventional textiles, guaranteeing their authenticity and provenance at every stage of the supply chain, from fiber to retail. EON ́s pioneering software platform enables global brands to create and manage a unique digital identity for every physical product in the form of a digital twin. This digital twin turns their products into traceable, interactive and intelligent assets that power diverse business objectives including on-product customer engagement, authentication, seamless resale, and more.

The EON and TextileGenesis collaboration solves key technology barriers for brands to meet these new compliance requirements by removing data silos between upstream and downstream traceability. Brands will be able to link material traceability data from TextileGenesis to a digital twin in the EON platform through a direct integration between the two platforms. This critical link will ensure the end-to-end traceability of every unique item, enable customers to access trusted product information, and ensure downstream partners have the information they need to scale circular services. Brands benefit from traceable, compliant products that unlock new value across their lifespans.

“Our collaboration with EON enables us to offer an unrivalled level of precision and completeness in textile traceability, from fiber to finished product, and in tracking all stages of production, distribution, sale, resale and recycling of fashion items. The integration, via APIs, of our two platforms enables brands to associate a Digital Product Passport (DPP) with each of their products, bringing together certified supply chain data upstream (TextileGenesis) and information collected downstream (EON) of the garment purchase”, explains Amit Gautam, founder and CEO of TextileGenesis.

“Our collaboration with TextileGenesis signifies a huge leap forward in product and material traceability, enabling brands to for the first time connect the full end-to-end life cycle of each unique item. This new intelligence delivers unparalleled competitive advantages: brands will be able to scale new business models, deliver richer customer experiences and accelerate sustainability efforts,” explains Natasha Franck, founder and CEO of EON.

Next-Generation Haptic Testing Solution Comes to IGATEX Pakistan for the First Time

LEIPZIG, Germany — April 25, 2024 — Coming for the first time to Pakistan, the emtec TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer introduces an innovative measuring principle that simulates the sensory capacities of the human hand, providing objective data on the intricate nuances of touch. Beyond assessing softness, smoothness, and stretch and recovery parameters within a mere two minutes, the device evaluates additional components of touch such as thermo-haptic, friction, and crumple or drape behavior.

The results offer unparalleled accuracy in discerning the tactile qualities of textiles, ensuring manufacturers can uphold the highest standards of quality and comfort. Comparative studies against traditional hand panel testing methods utilizing “touch experts” reveal a correlation of up to 100 percent.

A further highlight of the updated TSA device is its seamless integration with the cloud-based Virtual Haptic Library, a collaborative effort with Black Swan Textiles. This online database digitizes and categorizes TSA sample data, enabling authorized personnel worldwide to access the data in real time. This facilitates efficient quality assurance and control irrespective of geographical location, virtually eliminating the need to ship samples globally to verify haptic conformity and thus yielding a significant return on investment.

“We’re thrilled to unveil our latest advancements at IGATEX Pakistan,” said Giselher Gruener, general manager at emtec. “The redesigned TSA device, combined with the Virtual Haptic Library, marks a significant leap forward in haptic measurement technology, empowering manufacturers to make informed decisions and elevate product quality.”
