Donaldson Expands iCue™ Connected Filtration Service To Europe

LEUVEN, Belgium — March 10, 2020 — Donaldson Co. Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems and solutions, today announced the expansion of the Donaldson iCue™ connected filtration service to Europe. The service monitors industrial dust collectors in real time to help facility teams improve dust collection management.

Early adopters of the iCue service, which was launched in September 2019 in North America, have reported benefits in three main categories:

  • Reduced downtime for dust collection equipment and associated production lines;
  • Lower maintenance costs for labor and parts, including longer filter replacement intervals; and
  • Better management of dust collector tasks and compliance reporting data.

Based on research Donaldson has performed, 65 percent of surveyed facilities reported they would experience production downtime if their collector failed due to maintenance oversights. “Dust collection systems play an important role in helping manage airborne contaminants and emissions,” said Bart Robbeets, sales director of Industrial Air Filtration – After Market of Donaldson Europe & Middle East. “The iCue service provides real-time insights that can help facility teams troubleshoot issues earlier and keep a collector up and running. This added intelligence helps our customers drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve their production uptime.”

The iCue connected filtration service monitors key operating metrics on a dust collector, with additional sensors available to meet specific needs. Users have access to service features that include:

  • Real-time alerts e-mailed directly to facility teams for assessment and action;
  • Easy-to-use dashboard detailing all dust collectors on the service;
  • Automated historic performance reports on each dust collector; and
  • Live customer success team for assistance.

“Facility managers tell us that actively monitoring their dust collectors’ performance is a challenge, in terms of both time and technical knowledge,” said Wade Wessels, global director of Connected Solutions with Donaldson. “Our iCue service automates monitoring and provides simple, actionable data that helps our customers manage their equipment with confidence and ease.”

The compact iCue device and wireless connection is simple to install, requires no IT integration with an internal automation network, and is compatible with major dust collector brands. An annual subscription includes hardware, automated reports, real-time maintenance alerts, and an online interface for more detailed analysis.

Baldwin To Introduce TexCoat G4 Fabric Finishing System To US Textile Industry At Techtextil North America

St. LOUIS — March 10, 2020 — Baldwin Technology Company Inc. has announced that it will showcase the TexCoat G4 non-contact precision spray fabric finishing system at the Techtextil North America tradeshow, held from May 12 to 14, 2020, in Atlanta (booth #3048).

With extensive sustainability benefits, unprecedented tracking and process control, and industry 4.0 integration, the TexCoat G4 provides consistently high-quality fabric finishing, with no chemistry waste, as well as minimal water and energy consumption.

“We are extremely proud to introduce the TexCoat G4 to the American textile industry,” said Rick Stanford, Business Development Leader at Baldwin. “After receiving incredibly positive reviews during the launch at ITMA 2019 last June, the TexCoat G4 has proven its efficiency for textile manufacturers across Europe. We are confident in meeting American manufacturers’ high demands for sustainability and profitability, with great margins.”

Baldwin’s innovative non-contact spray technology eliminates chemistry dilution in wet-on-wet processes. The TexCoat G4 consistently and uniformly sprays chemistry across the fabric surface and applies it only where needed, on one or both sides of the fabric. Customers can expect no bath contamination during the finishing process, as well as minimal downtime during changeovers, which are made easy with recipe management that includes automated chemistry and coverage selection.

The TexCoat G4 also enhances sustainability by wasting no chemistry during color, fabric or chemistry changeovers, and because only the required chemistry volume is applied to the fabric, wet pick-up levels can be reduced by up to 50 percent—leading to 50 percent less water and energy consumption. Furthermore, in single-side applications, drying steps can be eliminated for various textiles, including those that are back-coated and laminated, thereby streamlining and simplifying the production process.

EURATEX — The New EU Industrial Strategy: How Do We Get From Principles To Practice?

BRUSSELS — March 10, 2020 — EURATEX welcomes the proposed new EU industrial strategy but wonders how the proposed principles will be put into practice; reality checks and close monitoring of the implementation of the strategy will be essential to make a positive and sustainable impact.

The European textiles and apparel industry, worth nearly 180 billion euros and including 171,000 companies, is an essential pillar of the European industry. It is a very globalized industry with extensive value chains across different continents. Over the last 10 years, real changes have been made to innovate and increase sustainability of its products, starting from traditional clothing to smart and medical textiles, industrial applications in the automotive and aerospace industry, to protective wear and high-end fashion.

Against this background, EURATEX welcomes the launch of a new comprehensive EU industrial strategy. It is high time for Europe to embrace its industry again, as a source of welfare, innovation and employment. The proposed strategy is rightfully putting emphasis on economic sovereignty, without falling into the trap of protectionism.

The strategy should include some important elements, essential for its success:

  • Any proposed measure must be assessed in a global context, i.e. European companies cannot be subject to new rules, standards or regulations unless all players do play with the same rules. Measures to ensure a level playing field must be realistic and effective.
  • Innovation into a more sustainable industry has an important cost, and the end consumer is not always willing to pick up that cost. This may jeopardize the financial sustainability of our industry, especially for smaller companies. Accompanying measures should be taken to alleviate the burden of green investments, especially for SMEs.
  • Labour force shortage is an important barrier to the development of our industry. In 2018, 34% of the Textile and Clothing workforce was over the age of 50 (a steep increase from the 22% just 10 years ago). It is therefore urgent to make a common effort to both upskill and reskill the current workforce and to attract young talent.

While the principles mentioned in the strategy are sound, effective implementation of such principles into practical measures will be critical. Too often in the past, the EU has presented ambitious plans, but failed to deliver on their implementation, either by lack of resources or political will from member states. EURATEX therefore calls for a strict “governance” of this new strategy, introducing measurable targets, which can be monitored by relevant stakeholders. “We should be vigilant that proposed measures are realistic and effective, and actually support industrial competitiveness, rather than adding a regulatory or financial burden”, commented Director General Dirk Vantyghem on the proposed strategy.

EURATEX stands ready to contribute to a positive and effective implementation of the strategy, making sure the European economy can regain its competitiveness, create jobs and welfare.
