Web Industries Rebrands To Align With Fundamental Shift In Manufacturing Sector’s Business Values

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — October 17, 2018 —  A rebranding initiative designed to cultivate relationships, trust and transparency with customers, prospects and suppliers has been launched by Web Industries, an employee-owned precision converter and outsource manufacturer serving the aerospace, medical, personal & home care, and industrial markets.

According to Vice President of Corporate Development Kevin Young: “Our rebranding is transformational. It changes our entire approach and way of thinking. Central to the rebrand’s implementation is fine-tuning Web’s work culture from one that places precision converting and outsource manufacturing services at its mission’s core to one that values reciprocal trust among Web, its customers and suppliers above all other priorities. This demands extensive training and total commitment to put into practice. Essentially, we are capitalizing on the words of our founder, Bob Fulton, who said, ‘The essence of life is relationships.’

“The manufacturing landscape is evolving,” Young adds. Vendor-manufacturer relationships will become deeper and more interdependent. The signs are all pointing in that direction.”

Young confirms the need for rethinking the ways in which Web Industries conducts business by citing the book “Grow: How Ideals Power Growth and Profit at the World’s Greatest Companies,” by marketing authority Jim Stengel. In his book, Stengel writes:

“A brand ideal is a business’s essential reason for being, the higher-order benefit it brings to the world,” and notes that by operating according to this and related principles, the world’s best businesses achieve growth rates triple those of competitors, and they outperform the market by 400%.

“At Web Industries, our ideal is to inspire ingenuity through the power of close relationships, an increasingly critical value in today’s manufacturing world,” Young says. “Our rebrand will help create a platform for building tighter bonds. Ultimately, our customers will benefit from the reassurance that comes from doing business with a company whose brand signifies not only technical expertise, but trust as well.”

The rebranding initiative came about when the company’s board of directors broached the question, “What is different about us from other converters of flexible materials? In short, why do we exist?”

The question sparked a quest to understand the business’s perception by the marketplace and how well it did or did not align with its resources and capabilities.

“When we canvassed the market, respondents to one survey said that Web Industries ‘listens intently in all interactions,’” Young says. “And in another, 80% agreed that we bring customers ‘ingenious solutions.’

“From that, we formulated our new tagline, ‘Ingenuity with a personal touch’ as a declaration of what customers should expect from us. This declaration will appear on all of Web Industries’ communications materials, ranging from letterhead and business cards to the company’s new website.

“Looking ahead, we will be constantly evolving our approach, discovering new ways to fulfill our purpose and deliver on our promise.”

New Website

Web Industries’ rebrand will yield immediate benefits to customers in each of the business’s market sectors. For example, the redesigned website, www.webindustries.com, has more in-depth channels for each market segment — Aerospace, Medical, Personal & Home Care and Industrial. Data has been added that will help visitors better understand how Web listens to customers’ needs, understands their challenges and works with them to develop unique solutions for their particular converting and outsource manufacturing needs.

The site’s Services & Products channel hosts Process Optimization Services, Outsource Manufacturing Services and Specialty Products pages, each with detailed coverage. The site’s channels and other new features make the site more organized and easier to navigate than its predecessor.

MSA Takes Safety to New Heights

PITTSBURGH — October 17, 2018 — According to the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees. So for industries that are inherently dangerous and require men and women to work at heights, the demand for comfortable and technology-driven fall protection equipment and services has never been greater. To provide workers at height with new options to help protect them at work, global safety equipment manufacturer MSA Safety today announced the introduction of a broad new line of innovative fall protection harnesses called the V-Series. The company plans to showcase elements of this new line at the upcoming National Safety Congress (NSC) Expo in Houston, Texas, October 22-24.

The V-Series line of fall protection equipment is named after MSA’s iconic V-Gard® hard hat, which is used by millions of workers across the globe. Comprised of self-retracting lanyards and three harnesses with varying price points and comfort levels, the V-Series harness line, when used in conjunction with MSA’s suite of fall protection equipment, offers one of the highest levels of fall protection available today. It also means MSA can offer customers a full portfolio of work-at-height solutions, ranging from permanent engineered systems to personal protective equipment (PPE).

Among the fall protection harnesses MSA plans to showcase at the NSC is a premium offering called the V-FLEX™ Harness. Designed to provide exceptional wearer comfort, the V-FLEX Harness features a full-body, racing-style design, making it ideal for long hours on the job or extended shifts. A patent-pending RaceFLEX™ connection reduces the feeling of restriction and need for repetitive harness adjustment to improve worker mobility. With additional features including contoured, breathable shoulder padding and horizontal leg straps, the V-FLEX harness is designed to keep workers comfortable all day, every day.

“Harnesses are a critical piece of personal protective equipment for fall protection,” said Jennifer McGurrin, General Manager of Global Fall and Industrial Head Protection at MSA. “When wearing a harness all day, workers want to be as comfortable as possible. MSA is launching this new line of harnesses designed around comfort to increase worker compliance and improve satisfaction.  The range of harnesses allows workers to choose the features and price point that best meet their needs.”

Creating a Safer Workplace with Software as a Service

Also making its Expo debut will be Safety io — MSA’s first subsidiary focused entirely on leveraging MSA’s market-leading gas detection technology with industry-leading innovation in cloud-based software. Safety io uses wireless technology and cloud-based computing to enable a broad range of “connected” safety activities. With MSA gas detection products serving as enablers, Safety io delivers the ability to remotely monitor gas level readings in the workplace, track the safety of associates, monitor instrument maintenance status and, in the event of an emergency, notify workers of the need to evacuate with the push of a button.

“In many respects, Safety io challenges safety-minded organizations to expect more from their gas detection systems and programs,” said Gustavo Lopez, general manager for Safety io. “The services we offer are designed to enable worksite managers to make informed decisions, reinforce best practices and pursue a safety-first, injury-free workplace.”

Software platforms currently available from Safety io — which are available as subscription-based services — include Fleet Manager and Live Monitor. Fleet Manager allows organizations to proactively track and monitor the calibration of their gas detection equipment and make standard operating procedures more efficient. Live Monitor enables the remote tracking and monitoring of all workers performing difficult and hazardous job functions in real time fashion.

Customers, safety experts and the public can explore these and other new product solutions and latest technological advancements from MSA, and speak with the company’s team of safety specialists, at this year’s NSC Congress and Expo at booth number 2234 from October 22-24.

Quality From Fiber To Fabric: USTER Completes Integration Of EVS

USTER, Switzerland — October 17, 2018 — Quality solutions across the full range of primary textile production — from fiber to finished fabric — are now offered by Uster Technologies, following the successful integration of automated inspection systems from EVS. This expansion of capability means USTER is unique as the world’s only supplier of high-tech instruments for quality monitoring and management in spinning, weaving, knitting, finishing and nonwovens. The three EVS systems for vision-based fabric inspection are now presented under Uster branding.

On April 25 this year, Uster Technologies announced the successful acquisition of Elbit Vision Systems (EVS), a world-leading high-technology supplier for automated vision inspection in the textile industry. Since then, both organizations have been working to integrate EVS into the Uster Group. This phase was completed on October 1, when EVS started operations under the name of Uster Technologies Ltd., based in Caesarea, Israel.

The EVS fabric inspection systems are now presented under the Uster brand, with new names: Uster EVS Q-BAR (fabric quality monitoring system), Uster EVS FABRIQ VISION (fabric quality assurance system) and Uster EVS FABRIQ SHADE (fabric shade optimization system). They also have a new look — the distinctive and award-winning dark-red and grey USTER design — confirming the identity of the fabric inspection systems at a glance.

Think Quality for fabrics

Automated inspection from Uster delivers major benefits for fabric producers. The three solutions provide both quality assurance and optimization of fabric yield in the final product. The high-tech inspection technology means fabric producers depend less on human judgment and can produce consistent, reliable quality. Uster fabric inspection brings the Think Quality™ approach to fabric production.

In the mill, the Uster approach starts with the principle of avoiding off-quality at the earliest possible stage. Here, the Uster EVS Q-BAR detects faults during manufacturing, preventing long-running defects. This early control reduces material losses and removes the need for manual inspection after production. It’s the basis for constant and reliable quality, enhancing the mill‘s market competitiveness.

For optimum quality, a consistently high rate of defect detection is required. Uster EVS FABRIQ VISION ensures reliable monitoring, using automated control during intermediate and final inspection — eradicating the need for manual inspection. The system’s ability to capture any visible defects allows fabric yield to be optimized and prevents claims.

For dyed fabrics, color consistency is vital — from beginning to end and from side to side of a roll, as well as between different rolls of the same lot. Uster EVS FABRIQ SHADE monitors shade variation in almost any process where color is critical. It allows fabric producers to deliver a constant shade in the end product, preventing second quality and keeping customers satisfied.

Uster EVS FABRIQ VISION and Uster EVS FABRIQ SHADE also provide a number of options for improving process efficiency, while also optimizing fabric yield. Features such as the infrared marker, the cutting-table control and the laser pointer underline the superior technology of Uster systems. Smart automation, process optimization and user-friendliness all lead to the goal of managing a textile mill with quality in mind.

Perfect match

USTER is the world’s only supplier of quality solutions for the textile industry from fiber to fabric. With EVS, USTER strengthens its portfolio in process monitoring and quality management for weaving, knitting, finishing, and nonwovens. The perfect match of products is underlined by the fit of two companies holding leading roles in their fields, both dedicated to high-tech and driven by innovation. They also share the basic business goals: transparency in quality, through measuring and monitoring intermediate and final products. Their joint conviction is that automated quality control for objective assessment is crucial to textile businesses success.

The inherent dedication to quality — another common ideal for EVS and Uster — is more valuable than ever in today’s competitive market. Customers expect unique products, at the right quality and free from unacceptable defects, every time. The combination of data from the spinning process, and on fiber, yarn and fabric quality enables fact-based decisions to achieve constant quality and improve efficiency and productivity. “The integration of EVS into the Uster Group is recognized as a synergetic acquisition adding value to Uster’s offer of expertise and services. Additionally EVS is for us an opportunity to explore business in additional textile fields,” said Thomas Nasiou, Uster Technologies CEO.
