International Technology Group ANDRITZ At ITME 2022

GRAZ, Austria — November 14, 2022 — International technology group ANDRITZ will be presenting its innovative nonwovens and textile solutions at ITME 2022 in Greater Noida, India, December 8-13 (hall 12, booth A22).

The broad ANDRITZ product portfolio covers state-of-the-art nonwovens and textile production technologies, such as air-through bonding, airlay, needlepunch, spunlace, spunbond, wetlaid/WetlaceTM, converting, textile finishing, recycling, and natural fiber processing.

Textile Recycling Technologies By Andritz

With the acquisition of ANDRITZ Laroche SAS, ANDRITZ has expanded its product portfolio to include airlay and recycling technology as well as bast fiber processing technologies. Complete recycling lines for post-consumer and industrial textile waste to produce fibers for re-spinning and/or nonwoven end-uses are one focus of this product range. Customer awareness and regulations are forcing clothing brands to recycle their textile waste in their own products. Recycled fibers can also be used in several nonwoven processes such as airlay for various applications, for example in the automotive industry, for insulation, mattresses, and furniture felts.

Innovations In Solutions For Durable Applications

The strong increase of nonwovens in the automotive sector in recent years has also opened up new opportunities in the filtration industry. Based on decades of experience, ANDRITZ develops cost-efficient and reliable turnkey needlepunch and airlay lines.

The recent boom in the market for durable nonwoven products led ANDRITZ to develop its PA3000 elliptical cylinder pre-needler to meet the demand for higher capacities and lighter products. This state-of-the-art equipment consists of an optimized cylinder pre-needler for the production of light batts up to 6.75m width and provides greater speed (up to 18m /min depending on desired width). As a result the web layers are stitched together with optimum cohesion to maintain the web surface evenness, minimizing the risk of cloud formation, as is the case with other pre-needler designs.

In addition, the automotive industry is shifting its focus to green technologies, and this has a direct impact on the properties of nonwoven parts in vehicles. ANDRITZ SDV2+2 double velour needleloom can indeed process composite velour fabrics and offer latex-free use for more recyclability and sustainability, strongly contributing to an environmentally friendly approach.

Thanks to the ANDRITZ’s expertise in needlepunch processes and web profiling know-how (new ProWin™), manufacturers can provide the most suitable fabrics for this industry’s requirements and maximize ROI (with significant fiber savings of up to 5%).

Moreover, the airlay technology also plays a major role in durable nonwovens, such as in the automotive industry, building insulation, carpet underfelt, the mattress industry, and furniture applications.

ANDRITZ airlay solutions have been designed to form mats from all types of fibers, from short, recycled fibers to long and coarse natural fibers, and from blends with non-fibrous components, and many more.

Customers are welcome to conduct trials together with our experts and compare the different options available in the technical center for needlepunch processes at ANDRITZ Asselin-Thibeau in Elbeuf, France, and/or on the airlay pilot line at ANDRITZ Laroche in Cours, France.

News In Wipes Technology Developments

ANDRITZ offers various nonwoven processes to produce best and cost-effective wipes, like spunlace, Wetlace and Wetlace CP. ANDRITZ also accompanies nonwoven producers in the move to sustainability with the aim of reducing or eliminating plastic components while maintaining the high quality of the desired product properties. This applies to all types of sustainable wipes, such as flushable, biodegradable, bio-sourced, carded-pulp or standard carded wipes. The latest development in this field is the ANDRITZ neXline wetlace CP line, which integrates the card-pulp (CP) process. This is a fully engineered production line combining the benefits of drylaid and wetlaid technologies to produce a new generation of biodegradable wipes.

To serve customers even better and offer the best possible R&D and service, ANDRITZ welcomes producers to its spunlace technical center at ANDRITZ Perfojet in Montbonnot, France. The technical center has been upgraded just recently with an inline pulp formation system and is now the most advanced nonwovens test center for wipes worldwide.

The Next Generation In Textile Calendering

The ANDRITZ teXcal Raconip TT sets new standards in textile processing for technical textiles, such as sportswear, workwear, canvas, and parachute fabric, both in terms of technological maturity and of design. The teXcal Raconip TT is aimed at customers who require versatility and operator-friendly handling along with excellent process stability in addition to constantly high manufacturing quality.

This innovative calender impresses with a deflection-controlled roll – the Raconip TT roll. It offers maximum flexibility thanks to unrestricted profiling across the entire fabric width by means of hydrostatic pistons. This guarantees highest quality, such as absolute flatness and precise air permeability.

PANGAIA Launches Its Next Generation Of Plant-Based Activewear, Collaborating With Hyosung On The Process

SEOUL, South Korea/NEW YORK CITY — November 14, 2022 — With the mission to find problem-solving materials that promote biodiversity, remove petro-chemicals, and support a climate positive future, Materials Science Brand PANGAIA has launched a new and improved range of plant based activewear, Activewear 3.0.

Activewear 3.0 follows in suit with the brand’s material philosophy of “high tech naturalism,” which involves utilizing the abundance of nature augmented by high tech processes and sustainable chemistries to expand the functionality of its textiles.

The third iteration of PANGAIA’s activewear line, which includes four key styles in three colorways, is the brand’s most bio-based offering to date. It is made using 99.99% plant-based EVO® Nylon and 30 percent plant-based creora® elastane, the first of its kind.

Hyosung’s creora elastane is the first to market with a 30 percent biobased content that is sourced from industrial corn, harvested in the US, and PANGAIA is the first brand globally to introduce this new stretch fiber in an activewear range.  The yarn is SGS certified guaranteeing that it is made with plant-based materials and produced in an eco-friendly environment. According to a recent third-party LCA, the manufacture of creora bio-based elastane reduces its carbon footprint by 23 percent as compared to the production of regular elastane.

“PANGAIA is highly regarded for their innovative approach to new materials, and they are often referenced for leading the way in sustainable solutions,” said Claire O’Neill, Hyosung European Marketing Manager. “As a textile solutions provider, we are proud that such a reputable brand has partnered with Hyosung to help realize its vision of developing an advanced collection of plant-based activewear its customers will feel good about purchasing and wearing.”

The evolution of PANGAIA’s activewear includes an updated look and feel with seamless shapes offering comfort and stretch — it is designed to feel like a second skin with gentle compression. Additionally, each garment is treated with the brand’s PPRMINT™ finish so garments stay fresh for longer.

The latest range includes four styles — bra, cropped top, shorts, and leggings — in black, foliage green, and cerulean blue. PANGAIA’s latest activewear collection is available online at PANGAIA.com.

Cintas Unveils New ESG Branding To Align Its Environmental, Social & Governance Ambitions

CINCINNATI — November 11, 2022 — Today Cintas Corp. unveiled its new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) branding identity, which was created to help raise awareness and bring consistency and cohesion to Cintas’ ongoing ESG efforts and initiatives.

The newly introduced brand will be prominently featured and discussed in the Cintas 2022 ESG Report, which will be published in January 2023. The company’s third sustainability report will recap the company’s fiscal year 2022, which ended on May 31, 2022.

“Cintas’ sustainable business strategy dates back to our company’s origins and we have always worked closely with the communities in which we live and serve, so the theme ‘A Shared Drive for Better’ is a natural fit as we develop our ESG brand,” said Christy Nageleisen, Cintas Vice President of ESG and Chief Compliance Officer. “As our ESG Journey progresses, we will continue to innovate and refine our processes to help sustain the world we live in, build on our culture of respect, belonging, and inclusion, and hold ourselves accountable with world-class business practices. This approach is inherent to our almost century-old shared drive for better.”

“We believe our new ESG brand will help us bring attention to the heightening focus on sustainability and it will be important as environmental, social, and governance issues gain greater awareness and attention from different groups,” said Todd Schneider, Cintas President and CEO. “We’re proud of the work we’ve done to advance our ESG ambitions over the years. This work has created better outcomes for us all, and we know our continued attention to effecting more sustainable solutions is critical for our continued success. Our culture is one of “positive discontent, and we always strive for better in every aspect of our organization.”

Cintas’ ESG Vision

The new ESG brand is themed “A Shared Drive for Better” to bring into focus the collective impact Cintas believes it can make for a better future.

The company’s strategy builds on its collaboration with its customers, employee-partners, shareholders, suppliers, and communities the company serves. Cintas aims to bring everyone together to identify opportunities and to implement changes that support safer, cleaner and more sustainable workplaces.

Cintas’ ESG Vision articulates its ambitions in this area: “Guided by our principles, we work together to provide businesses with the sustainable products, services, and solutions they need for a better workday, supporting our partners and the communities we serve, building a better future.”

Logo & Visual Identify

The new Cintas ESG logo features three distinct colors to represent the three different components of ESG: environment, social and governance.

The brand’s visual identity features a “water leaf” in the logo. This helps impart the importance of the environment and water stewardship in our ESG Journey.

ESG at Cintas

Cintas’ sustainable business model has underpinned the company’s growth strategy and imparted a holistic “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” mentality throughout the company’s operations.

This approach dates back to the company’s origins almost 100 years ago during the Great Depression. Out-of-work circus performers Doc and Amelia Farmer went around to Cincinnati-area businesses and collected their dirty, discarded shop rags from their trash bins, and brought the dirty rags home to launder them. When the rags were clean, Doc and Amelia then sold them back to area businesses, thereby extending their useful lives and reducing companies’ ongoing need to replace their discarded rags with brand-new rags.

Since then, the company has grown and expanded business operations to include uniform and apparel rental programs, facility services, first aid and safety products and services, and fire protection services.

Cintas’ cultural focus on its Principal Objective, its Corporate Character and Management Systems – defined by Founder Dick Farmer in his book, “Spirit is the Difference” – has resulted in ESG-centric business practices embedded holistically into Cintas’ operations from its start.

Premium Leather Producer ECCO Leather Partners With Ecovative To Pursue New Mycelium Materials

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. — November11, 2022 — Ecovative, a mycelium technology company, and ECCO Leather, a part of the Danish footwear brand ECCO and a supplier of innovative and premium leathers, have announced an ongoing partnership to develop and commercialize the next generation of mycelium materials for a range of new products.

The first-of-its-kind partnership, between a traditional leather tannery and a mycelium technology company, leverages Ecovative’s strengths as a global leader in developing sustainable materials with mycelium — the fibrous ‘root structure’ of mushrooms — and ECCO Leather’s expertise in the development and production of leather for a wide range of consumer products. Earlier this year, Ecovative and ECCO Leather began trading materials and methods to test mycelium materials against the high performance standards for commercial leather products and tanning processes. That collaboration is being expanded and extended to bring new products to market. A long-term off-take agreement expects to see Ecovative supplying ECCO Leather with the custom-tuned mycelium materials developed through this process, which ECCO Leather will transform into novel materials for both its own brand and to supply its material partner network.

This agreement opens the door to collaboration on the full scope of material development and commercialization possibilities. From research through testing and prototyping to products on store shelves, both companies will apply their unique expertise and production technologies — such as AirMycelium™ at Ecovative, which produces 100% pure mycelium hides to specification, and ECCO Leather’s innovative tannery processes that require less time, chemicals, and water than traditional textile finishing methods.

“The best and fastest way to advance new materials with biology is through partnerships just like this one with ECCO Leather,” says Gavin McIntyre, Chief Commercial Officer of Ecovative. “By combining our expertise and capacity to grow mycelium at scale, and ECCO Leather’s extensive understanding of what’s needed for the best leather products in the world, we will help bring the industry closer to true sustainability and circularity.”

McIntyre, together with Bart Hofman-Kronborg, the Group Manufacturing Director at ECCO Leather, will spearhead the new partnership at their respective companies. The project is expected to bring innovative mycelium materials to global scale, addressing a growing consumer demand for products that are environmentally positive.

“Mycelium represents a brand new canvas on which we can create with both traditional and novel material processes. It removes the complexities of the raw hide supply chain, while its fast and efficient growth allows us to bring a new material category to market, one that gives consumers an environmentally conscious choice over petrochemical-derived materials,” says Bart Hofman-Kronborg, Group Manufacturing Director of ECCO Leather. “Historically, tanneries have exclusively been associated with animal hides; with mycelium, this millennia-old industry can evolve, diversify and expand into a wider material market.”

Through Ecovative’s patented technologies, the growth of mycelium can be directed and customized to a variety of different applications. ECCO Leather has spent nearly a decade evaluating a wide range of novel materials in pursuit of greater sustainability. With expertise in producing high value products from sidestreams such as animal hides, drawing from both tradition and innovation in the leather industry and beyond, ECCO Leather has refined processes and chemistries that elevate this new and exciting material category to its full potential.

Plastics pose perhaps the greatest sustainability challenge to overcome in meeting the high standards of fashion and apparel. Currently, plastics are common to fashion, and even mycelium materials on the market from other companies use petroleum for finish and durability. Today, the Forager mycelium materials require no backing or internal reinforcement, which other mycelium materials often require for strength and durability. The materials are the result of valorized waste streams, grown on agricultural leftovers, creating compost instead of pollution in the process. Both companies are working to maximize the biodegradability of the final products, minimizing the chemicals and plastics involved, without compromising durability or functionality.

The partnership announced today will approach mycelium as a new standard bearer for sustainable materials in fashion, upholstery, automotive, and other industries.

Gavin McIntyre and Bart Hofman-Kronborg will be speaking at the 20th annual Textile Exchange Conference, held in Colorado Springs November 14 through 18. The conversation will cover the process of implementing material innovations in existing supply chains and infrastructure, which is key to Ecovative’s strategy for scaling.

Maximum Sustainable Innovation For Lorpen Biowarmer Socks Thanks To Biodegradable Textiles

ARRASATE, Spain — November11, 2022 — Lorpen, an international brand of technical outdoor socks, has presented a sustainable winter 2023 collection that is 1005 sustainable because all the conventional fibers have been replaced with eco fibers. They’ve also taken a step forward on their roadmap for using biodegradable textiles by creating several top-of-the-line models for next winter where they pursued the application of sustainable innovation to product design that puts them at the vanguard of the industry: the T3+ BIOWARMER Inferno Expedition (Outdoor&Mountaineering category) in crew and over calf versions and the T3+ BIOWARMER Ski (Wintersports category).

Lorpen combined Sensil BioCare® with PrimaloftBio® textiles for filling with those models. The seams are also made with Sensil BioCare® used as thread, while the cuff has been made with chlorine free wool. Thus, during their useful life the socks help the wearer suffer less in extreme cold conditions, either while doing an activity or at rest. And after their useful life they’ll never become trash, because they’re biodegradable. Furthermore, they’re very warm and supple.

Lorpen was the first brand to use three layers of different threads in a single sock (T3 technology). That was later combined with the SLS-Selective Layer System technology, which is a system of layers in strategic areas depending on the activity the user is going to do and under what conditions. That makes it possible to get the maximum performance from each thread for the maximum benefit to the athlete’s foot. They were also pioneers in using flat seems in the toe with their stitch by stitch sewing, which is something only the brand can do at their plant in Etxalar. That’s a lot of engineering applied to a sock and the outcome is high transpirability, strength and good fit, preventing the formation of blisters. It’s also significant that the brand designs and manufactures all their socks locally at their factory in Etxalar, Navarre.

Jeanologia Leads The Bangladeshi Textile Industry Towards Full Sustainability And Competitiveness With Laundry5.Zero

DHAKA, Bangladesh — November11, 2022 — Jeanologia, the Spanish company that develops eco-efficient technologies, steers the Bangladeshi textile industry towards total sustainability and competitiveness at the Bangladesh Denim Expo with Laundry5.Zero, the jeans finishing plant that guarantees ZERØ contamination. (Booth 33)

During the event being held from November 15-16 in Dhaka, the company will show its commitment to increasing productivity and efficiency in the country’s denim production, with the best cost-per-garment indicators, both environmentally and financially.

Manuj Kanchan, area manager of Jeanologia in Asia, highlighted Jeanologia’s commitment to turning the Bangladeshi textile industry into one of the most advanced and cleanest on the planet.

“Bangladesh has great potential and can become the world’s denim-producing powerhouse. For 20 years at Jeanologia, we have been promoting the development of its textile industry with comprehensive technologies and innovative processes that provide greater efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness. Technologies that allow us to face the challenges of the future, reducing costs as well as the country’s water and environmental footprint” – Manuj Kanchan underlined.

In his opinion, water will be the main cost factor in the near future. For this reason, he pointed out the importance of converting denim production centers into eco-efficient plants, and that Bangladesh join Jeanologia’s MissionZero to eliminate the use of water and dumping completely from the global production of jeans.

In this sense, he highlighted Laundry5.Zero as a key element to achieve these goals, since it guarantees 85-percent savings in water usage, as well as zero discharges and zero contamination, thanks to the perfect integration of Jeanologia technologies.

With a sustainable production capacity of between 5,000 and 25,000 garments per day, this garment finishing plant will enable a new digital, automated and environmentally-friendly production model that reduces time, costs and simplifies processes. And all without compromising the authenticity of the product while staying adapted to the new needs of the market.

In this sense, he highlighted the “Engineering Center” in this new production model for being “the brain of new digital production”.

This high-tech center is constituted as a fully digitized laboratory that accompanies the textile industry in its digital transformation and in its conversion process towards sustainability. It is capable of simplifying and streamlining workflow, developing digital samples and physical garments, and guaranteeing that the same results produced at the laboratory can level up to mass production for perfect reproducibility, i.e. “from lab to bulk”.

“Clean Up-Bright Future Ahead” Seminar

On November 16th at 2:30 PM, the Area Manager of Jeanologia in Asia will give a conference titled “Clean Up-Bright Future Ahead” where he will give insight on the key points behind starting on the path towards circularity in the textile industry.

20 years with the textile industry in Bangladesh

Jeanologia will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Bangladesh this year. During this time, the company has contributed to the socioeconomic development of the country by supporting its textile industry throughout its total transformation both in sustainability and efficiency, positioning it as one of the most advanced and sustainable in the world.

The company works closely with the country’s leading jeans manufacturers through its commercial office in Bangladesh. Facilities which serve as a base for over 20 employees, and from which Jeanologia provides advisory services and disruptive technology, as well as comprehensive technical service, support and training, to promote cost reduction, sustainability and productivity in the Bangladeshi textile industry.

Texo Trade Services Celebrates 25th Anniversary

MOORDRECHT, The Netherlands — November11, 2022 — Texo Trade Services (TTS) has been in operation for 25 years. Founder Jan van den Heuvel started a silk screen transfer paper distribution company in 1997 that grew under successor Floris Jan van den Heuvel to become a European market leader in printable textiles, sublimation paper, calendar protection paper and textile finishing products for the fashion, visual communications, interior design and sports industries. In 2022, TTS serves customers in over 60 countries from Moordrecht and its branches in Germany, France, England and Italy, as well as via agencies worldwide.

Key to success

The success of TTS lies in how it responds to changes in technology, regulations and, above all, customer requirements. Actively responding and being at the forefront of these has enabled TTS to develop to become a leading manufacturer and distributor. Director Floris Jan van den Heuvel stated: ‘TTS also makes continuous investments to find ways to supply its international customers with materials as quickly as possible. For instance, TTS opened branches in Germany, France, England and Italy, and has agencies all over the world, recruiting teams of local vendors with detailed knowledge of their own markets. Take our French team, for instance, which is already ensuring that local customers can say yes to clients that are making enquiries regarding the decor for the Summer Olympics venues in 2024.’

Dealerships

TTS has exclusive dealerships for calendars and textile printers, which also contributes to its success. For example, TTS has been exclusive dealer for global market leader Monti Antonio (calendars and presses) since 2009, quickly followed by dealerships for textile printers from Mimaki and HP Stitch in subsequent years. Selling these quality machines attracted and continues to attract new customers, as well as giving TTS a wealth of technical knowledge that enables it to better advise its customers worldwide.

Second location in the Netherlands

In October 2022, just a month ago, TTS also opened its second Dutch location in Waddinxveen, 5 kilometres from the 3,000 m2 TTS headquarters and warehouse in Moordrecht. Floris Jan van den Heuvel continued: ‘TTS is using this additional warehouse for unloading containers, for bulk storage and for pallet shipment, as high stock levels are needed to guarantee availability to customers. This expansion has resulted in TTS almost doubling its current warehousing capacity. And that’s just three years after the construction of the Moordrecht location. TTS has already outgrown this space.’

Bright, sustainable future

For TSS the future is bright and green. Sustainability plays an important role in the TTS policy. Not only is the head office and warehouse fully energy neutral its product range is too. The entire range is PVC free. For each application, TTS offers post-consumer waste (GRS-certified) recycled products and encourages customers to use them. TTS is currently identifying the carbon footprint of its range. Analysing the life cycle of products enables it to compare how much CO2 is involved per square metre. Floris Jan van den Heuvel added: ‘TTS is working hard, but of course is also taking time to reflect on its anniversary. A celebration with the fantastic TTS team took place in July, followed by a second event in October with our staff, customers and business associates. TTS is so grateful to them for their trust and pleasant cooperation over the years.’
