COMAU Launches M.I.O., An Innovative And Intelligent Logistics Module At MecSpe Fair – Parma

PARMA, Italy — March 29, 2019 — M.I.O. (Modular Intralogistics Organizer) is a tailored solution for logistics that is easily applicable within the entire material flow, from warehouse to line side in a wide variety of industrial segments. The product’s vertical architecture contributes to optimize factory space, due to the higher density exploitation in respect to traditional systems. The result is  logistic and line area reduction combined with improvement in inventory and operational efficiency.

M.I.O. modularity answers to the request of readiness for reconfigurability of the modern lines, resulting in intralogistics cost optimization. Flexibility and versatility are the pillars of the system which is compatible with the entire Comau products portfolio used in advanced logistics and manufacturing applications (AGILE1500, MATE, AURA). M.I.O. represents a major step forward in the integration between processes and logistics thanks to the full compliancy with Industry 4.0 and IIoT.  This new Comau product is an optimum solution for all production volumes without a high level of customization. Moreover, it can also be used in a variety of applications including prototyping lines and back-up, repair or intermediate loading stations.

M.I.O. works in a simple and safe way: it is equipped with a fixed floor base with a structure which ensures safety and serves as interface. On the inside, it has a rack consisting of 8 supply cabinets for standard containers, which are moved by an automatic rotation system. The operator can access the cabinet containing the components needed to perform a given task through an ergonomic opening placed at a convenient height and controlled by a safety system. The station was designed according to a multi-purpose logic, in order to make pick&place processes more efficient and speed up in-line work phases at the same time. The containers setup is flexible and can be adapted depending on the actions of the operator: each cabinet can contain identical pieces or variants of the same component, in order to manage different tasks in a single work cycle. Finally, each cabinet is available with a “work kit”, a mix of different elements which are necessary to perform a specific process. Each supply operation is managed and controlled indipendently.

If you want to discover all the benefits you can get from M.I.O., visit the Comau booth, Stand N55, in the Motek Section of Pavillion 5, from March 28 to 30, at MecSpe fair.

Mohenis Services Inc. Upholds Commitment With Clean Green Recertification

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — March 29, 2019 — Mohenis Services Inc., a third-generation, Virginia-based company with laundries who serve markets from New Jersey to South Carolina and from Virginia to Ohio, has been re-certified Clean Green, reflecting the company’s continued dedication to operational efficiency and sustainability. Mohenis Services Inc. first earned the Clean Green Certification in 2012. Companies that have earned this certification adhere to TRSA-designated water and energy use thresholds and deploy best management practices (BMPs) consistent with the ASTM International environmental laundering standard.

Mohenis Services Inc.’s customers can be assured their uniforms, floor mats, towels and other reusable linens are washed, dried and finished with processes that maximize sustainability and reduce greenhouse emissions. Clean Green certified operations demonstrate significant commitment to conservation and green operations through these BMPs:

  • Recovering heat from drained hot water and heat dispersed from the process of warming water
  • Recapturing drained water from rinses for reuse
  • Using environmentally friendly detergents
  • Removing solids and liquids from wastewater
  • Solar energy and energy-efficient lighting
  • Recycling programs
  • Re-routing trucks to save vehicle fuel
  • Spill prevention plans

The Clean Green certification is valid for three years at a time. TRSA inspects laundry facilities seeking certification and approves documentation of their water and energy use and BMP deployment through production reports they submit to auditors during the inspections. TRSA’s certification management protocol includes auditor training by the association’s inspection program administrator.

Clean Green aligns with the ASTM International standard, Guide for Sustainable Laundry Practices, which recognizes key criteria for the certification as universal indicators of maximum sustainability in commercial laundry work. ASTM’s review of TRSA BMPs verified these as the most effective and practical techniques for a laundry to achieve green objectives.

TRSA members prompted development of the standard, which was vetted in the sustainability subcommittee of the ASTM Committee on Textiles. Top technical experts, scientists and environmental professionals from outside the linen, uniform and facility services industry reviewed the BMPs. ASTM is the global leader in developing and delivering voluntary consensus standards unparalleled in building consumer confidence in product and service quality.

“I applaud Mohenis Services for their sustainability efforts and maintaining the highest standards in their production and delivery operations,” said Joseph Ricci, TRSA president and CEO. “Meeting all the criteria for certification is not easy, but they are committed to industry-leading processes and technologies.”

EPA Approves New, Broader Pathogen Killing Claims For Applied Silver’s SilvaClean® Commercial Laundry Additive Now Used In Healthcare And Sports Medicine Programs

HAYWARD, Calif. — March 28, 2019 — Applied Silver, Inc. today announced that the company has received Federal Approval from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make additional public health claims for its patented SilvaClean® commercial laundry additive against an expanded list of pathogenic bacteria and yeast including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-positive Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumanii, and Candida albicans. The company previously received EPA approval for kill claims against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Antibiotic Stewardship Begins With Infection Prevention, Including Soft Surface (Fabric) Intervention

“Staphylococcus, MRSA, and other life-threatening or -altering pathogens are a clear and present danger to patients, employees and caregivers in hospitals, healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities and sports medicine programs,” said Dr. Priya Balachandran, Applied Silver’s Vice President leading Clinical Programs. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported that five to ten percent of hospitalized patients acquire a healthcare acquired infection (1.7 million incidents/year) and that 25 percent of those infected patients/caregivers die in the next 12 months. Healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) cost the industry $20 billion/year. (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/washington/~cdcatWork/pdf/infections.pdf)

The CDC’s Antibiotic Resistance Solutions Initiative now recommends that hospitals and healthcare facilities use both comprehensive infection prevention programs and antibiotic treatments to combat the serious issue of deadly or life-altering antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

A recent report from the CDC indicates that progress against HAIs have stalled in recent years partly because infection control programs were not effective in addressing highly pathogenic superbugs like MRSA commonly found on hospital bed linens, medical equipment and healthcare workers (Source: Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, 68(9); 214-219).

Balachandran and other public health experts now advise hospital and long-term care facility teams (clinicians and administrators at all levels) to remain vigilant in their fight to reduce the risk of HAIs and add new tools like SilvaClean, that are clinically proven to kill pathogens on soft surfaces and keep killing them well after application. “Infections are a preventable problem throughout healthcare, sports medicine, hotels and restaurants and indeed, in our daily lives,” she said.

The federal government is actively conducting surveillance of antibiotic resistance, healthcare- and community- associated infections using a data-driven approach to target prevention and provide the appropriate recommendations. In support, the CDC is calling for new and novel prevention strategies.

Applied Silver’s Breakthrough Technology for Textiles Is Transformational to Infection Prevention Programs

The EPA approved public health claims for additional microorganisms for Applied Silver’s SilvaClean residual antimicrobial laundry additive. This new approval includes key pathogens and antibiotic-resistant microbes that have been demonstrated to be transmitted by textiles and are responsible for a significant portion of healthcare and community-acquired infections.

Company Adds Renown Hospital Administrator to its Board

“Health system executives play a key leadership role in adopting technological solutions that produce demonstrated improvements in safety and quality of care,” said Mark Neaman, healthcare industry veteran, former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of NorthShore University Health System (IL) in Chicago. Mr. Neaman has recently been named to the Board of Directors of Applied Silver. Continued Mr. Neaman, “The EPA’s recent approval of SilvaClean creates strong incentives for healthcare facilities to implement SilvaClean protocols, alongside existing hand hygiene and hard surface infection prevention procedures.” Mr. Neaman retired from NorthShore after 27 years of leadership. During this period, NorthShore helped to lead the nation in innovations such as the implementation of electronic record systems and was named 19 times (the most in the nation) as one of America’s Top Teaching Hospitals (by IBM Watson).

“The addition of Mark to the Applied Silver Board further signifies our commitment to thought leadership, innovation and patient care. Mark brings an incomparable wealth of experience and strategic vision to the business and his acceptance of the appointment is a strong endorsement for Applied Silver,“ said Elizabeth Hutt Pollard, Executive Chair of Applied Silver.

SilvaClean Infuses Silver Ions into Fabrics Killing Microbes and Providing Lasting (Residual) Protection

SilvaClean employs a smart patented technology platform that infuses textiles with pure silver ions during the laundry rinse cycle, where they bond fabrics to residually kill pathogens, mold and mildew, eliminating odors, helping remove stains and reduce static. SilvaClean chemistry is an EPA-approved laundry additive product, with public health claims against key pathogens, enabled by an Internet of Things (IoT) dispensing system that leaves fabrics with residual antimicrobial properties even after laundering (e.g. in storage, during handling and in use).

George At Asda To Sell Products Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles And Clothing As Part Of New Sustainability Pledge

LEEDS, UK — March 27, 2019 — Move to only using recycled polyester by 2025 part of a number of commitments to improve the ethical and environmental impact of its products.

George, the fashion and homewares arm of the supermarket Asda, will for the first time sell products made from recycled plastic bottles and clothing, as part of a commitment to use only polyester that is sourced from recycled materials by 2025.

The products launching in the retailer’s Spring/Summer 19 range include George Home cushions and throws that have been made from recycled plastic bottles, and blouses and dresses made with fabric from recycled polyester clothing.

The move – the first for a supermarket retailer – is accompanied by commitments to sourcing only certified sustainable viscose and sustainable cotton by 2025, as well as existing commitments to 100% sustainable timber (by 2020) and palm oil (in place since 2014).

George, the second largest fashion retailer in the UK by volume, will also extend its work looking at microfibre shedding, with a full microfibre strategy to be published later this year. Asda was the first big supermarket to sign up to the Microfibre Consortium, through which it is currently performing tests to understand the extent of shedding from different fabrics.

The retailer will also help its customers to understand more about the sustainability of their garments and how to reduce the environmental impact, with increased visibility of garment care and awareness of how they can repurpose, reuse or recycle old clothing. George has a zero-tolerance policy towards incineration and donates garments that cannot be sold to charitable organisations to be repurposed.

To further increase transparency around its supply chain, George will begin to publish a list of its second tier apparel factories – those typically dyeing, printing and finishing garments – on its website, joining its existing list of first tier factories, where clothes are cut, sewn and trimmed.

In a blog post launching the new pledges, Senior Vice President for Commercial, Nick Jones, said: “As the second largest clothing retailer in the country, we have a responsibility to do the right thing by our customers, not only on the price and quality of our goods, but also on the impact we have on the world around us.

Our George sustainability strategy builds on the work we’ve done to date and sets stretching targets and commitments to reduce the environmental and social impact of our products; because we know that, for our customers, looking after the environment is always in fashion.”
