Burgeoning ORIGIN USA Advances Manufacturing With Real-time Solution

GREENVILLE, S.C. — September 6, 2022 — IPE and TexTempo, experts in production management, incentive payroll, and quality control solutions for fashion, furniture, and industrial sewn products manufacturers, announce that ORIGIN USA is upgrading its legacy production systems to IPE’s latest IP-Realtime™ Shop Floor Control (SFC) solution at its Asheboro, N.C., manufacturing operation. The producer of durable fitness apparel, jeans, boots, uniforms and accessories expects the new system to provide executives, production leaders and teams with the real-time visibility and control they need to make better-informed decisions and optimize productivity.

Origin NC COO Jason Gaddy explained: “The pandemic exposed the many issues of reliance on global supply chains. We have acquired two North Carolina-based manufacturing businesses in the past year to rebuild a reliable, highly productive USA supply chain for the sewn products Americans want and need. We are now reshoring orders and jobs that moved offshore over the years. But instead of doing things the old way, we are creating a culture of inclusion and belonging and equipping our people with the tools they need to be their best. At Origin USA, our people come first.”

Origin’s North Carolina operation currently employs some three hundred (300) team members and plans to grow to five hundred (500) over the next twenty-four (24) months. The company has combined facilities from its 2021/22 acquisitions of the Wells Apparel and Fox Apparel (Texas Jeans) companies into a single manufacturing facility. Legacy batch (processed daily) production systems used in these facilities are now being phased out in favor of the always-on IP-Realtime solution.

Gaddy continued: “The original batch systems were used primarily to manage the incentive-based payroll tasks of the sewing operations. While IP-Realtime also handles payroll, it promises to provide tremendous value beyond payroll. We plan to use it in all areas of our operation, starting with the fabric cutting room all the way through to finishing and packing.”

The IP-Realtime solution combines the use of standard, off-the-shelf tablet computers positioned at each workstation or team to collect information on and timestamp every production activity. IPE’s custom Android app displays productivity, work pacing and training tools, and product and construction details for production workers and teams. Production leaders rely on always up-to-date information on production flow, downtime, quality, and other key performance indicators to react and pivot as needed to ensure proper line balance and uninterrupted order deliveries. Executives and remote stakeholders use convenient dashboards on mobile devices to monitor factory operations.

“We are pleased with the opportunity to play a role in Origin USA’s success and support their commitment to bringing work back to the U.S.A.,” said IPE Managing Partner Brad Mikes. “We applaud them for recognizing the importance of equipping their workforce with the real-time information and tools they need to achieve world-class manufacturing performance. As an innovator in our industry, Origin USA continuously exhibits a forward-thinking approach that sets an example that other companies can follow.”

TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer Onsite At AATCC Textile Discovery Summit Digitally Captures The Way Fabric Feels

LEIPZIG, Germany — September 4, 2022 — What if you could quickly and objectively determine the haptics of textiles and nonwovens, digitize the findings, and use the results to compare remote samples or reproduce the results using locally sourced materials? The TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer paves the way for this possibility by delivering reliable results that correspond very closely with the results from traditional hand-panel testing methods. During the Summit, emtec Global Marketing and Business Development Manager Alexander Gruener will be onsite to provide a hands-on demonstration and explain the measuring principle behind the device.

“Similar to the human hand, the TSA is able to detect minuscule variations in a fabric’s surface and judge whether the object is soft or hard, smooth or rough, stiff or flexible,” Gruener explained. “But unlike the human hand, the TSA is also able to differentiate between haptic parameters and precisely measure these differences. Human perception is only able to arrive at an overall impression of softness, the so-called handfeel.”

The traditional method for determining softness has long been based on the results of hand-panel testing, in which touch experts rank samples and calculate an average over several rankings. This method is usually time-consuming, and the individual results often vary widely. In contrast, the TSA has proven its potential as a portable, reliable substitute in that its results consistently correlate with hand-panel results, yet it fits inside a suitcase.

The AATCC Textile Discovery Summit is an annual, multi-day event featuring educational presentations from industry leaders and academic experts, interactive networking receptions, a showroom for innovative products and processes, information on the latest trends in textiles, and more. emtec Electronic will participate as exhibitor, and will give TSA insights during the Boxed Lunch-Exhibitor Summit Session on October 5th at University/Glenwaters at the Hilton University Place in Charlotte.

Recypur Successfully Starts Up A Complete Airlay Line Delivered By ANDRITZ For Its Mill In L’Alcúdia, Spain

GRAZ, Austria — September 2, 2022 — Recypur Eco S.L. in L’Alcúdia, Spain, has successfully started up a complete airlay line delivered, installed and commissioned by international technology group ANDRITZ.

The airlay line is designed for recycling of post-industrial and post-consumer foam and was developed specifically for the bedding and furniture industry, with material heights reaching 20 cm and densities of up to 120 kg/m3. Experimental tests carried out together with experts from Andritz Laroche led to the conclusion that the mechanical method for recycling polyurethane is the most versatile and reliable.

With a capacity of 1.2 t/h, this airlay line enables Recypur to supply new mattresses made of industrial & post-consumer foam waste from old mattresses. This well proven process allows to reduce the environmental impact, increase self-sufficiency and eventually reduce the use of polyurethane.

Such a set-up also allows multiple functional materials to be incorporated into the blend, such as flame-retardant, conductive and insulating fibers, among others. Thanks to this tailored approach, Recypur is now able to expand its diversification, innovation and reputation on the Spanish market.

The scope of supply includes a blending line with five feeders, an Exel 1500 for fine opening, an Airlay Flexiloft+ with 2.20 m working width, a recycling machine and an oven.

Airlay lines strongly support the circular economy and are part of Andritz’s comprehensive product portfolio of sustainable solutions that help customers achieve their own sustainability goals in terms of climate and environmental protection.

Tomás Zamora, innovation director, Recypur, comments: “The treatment of waste being a major stake, we knew that we could rely on Andritz’s high level of expertise. They have fully supported our R&D team in their technical center by using 100 percent of the foam coming from end-of-life mattresses and sofas. Thanks to this state-of-the-art new equipment, we have succeeded in finding the exact required solution for the mechanical recycling of mattresses. Now 250 kg of CO2 are saved for each ton manufactured by our company as compared to manufacturing with virgin polyurethane”.

Recypur, based in the Spanish province of Valencia, is part of DELAX, a Spanish group specialized in manufacturing and commercialization of innovative beds and mattresses. This company is the first Spanish manufacturer of recycled flexible polyurethane foam cores from post-consumer foam waste.

Champion Reminds The World That Hoodies Are Still The Real Deal, More Than 80 Years After Inventing Them For The Sidelines

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. — September 1, 2022 — Today, Champion Athleticwear, makers of authentic athletic apparel since 1919, is celebrating its place in sports history as the inventor of the world’s first hoodie. As the originator and as the brand who carries the standard of excellence within the hoodie category, Champion is launching the “Be Your Own” campaign as an ode to the hoodie.

The integrated marketing campaign is a movement to solidify Champion’s place in the athleticwear category as the original, and only, real hoodie that exists. This campaign showcases Champion hoodies as a wearable statement of comfort, style, and confidence.

In the 1930s, Champion made one update to its core product that would forever cement the brand in sportswear and fashion history — the addition of the hood. The hoodie was developed for athletes to wear on the sidelines, protecting them against the elements so they could perform at their best. Since then, Champion has continued to deliver hoodie solutions rooted in athleticism that translate to different arenas of life — the court and the field, classrooms, streets, main stage and more.

“Champion is proud of our sports heritage, and we want everyone to know that our signature “C” logo is not only the mark of a Champion, but has a deep-rooted history of creating and innovating hoodie fashion,” said John Shumate, vice president of Global Marketing, Champion. “While Champion invented the hoodie, our fans reinvent it every day. The new “Be Your Own” campaign shines the spotlight on consumers who play by their own rules and sport their own unique hoodie styles.”

Creating something as iconic as the hoodie wasn’t enough for Champion. As the experts in athleticwear, the brand continued to lean into innovations that solved issues on and off the field. From sustainably sourcing American grown cotton, to using cold water wash fabrics to reduce energy usage, Champion has kept pushing to reign supreme. After over 80 years of perfecting the hoodie, the current Champion portfolio offers an unmatched range in various silhouettes, fabrics, graphics and colors to give everyone stylish and comfortable solutions for any occasion, including:

  • Reverse Weave: The Heavyweight Icon — The first of its kind, the legendary Reverse Weave is cut on the cross-grain to resist vertical shrinkage and to maintain the integrity of the construction play after play. The hoodie that started it all features signature ribbed stretch side panels for mobility, durable double-needle construction and a double-layer hood that stands the test of time.
  • Classic Fleece: Colorful Statement Style — A cotton blend made from a portion of recycled polyester fibers in a mix of bold colors and graphics with a soft-brushed interior for stylish warmth without the extra weight.
  • Powerblend Fleece: Year-round Powerhouse — Champion’s midweight, exceptionally soft cotton/polyester blend that’s crafted with extra stitch details, a double-layer hood with metal grommets, soft back neck tape, and hand-warming pouch pocket for warmth and durability. Resistant to shrinkage and pilling for the perfect fit with comfort that always stays true and won’t weigh you down.

Since inception, the Champion hoodie has transcended beyond the field and become a staple in sports, style and culture. In 2017, the Reverse Weave hoodie was recognized by MoMA as one of the 111 items that have shaped the history of fashion, further confirming Champion’s impact across the nation. The “Be Your Own” campaign was created in partnership with advertising agency Energy BBDO to remind the world about the influence of Champion hoodies, on style and culture through the lens of everyday champions. The new campaign spotlights fan favorite hoodies in playful content that will appear in linear TV spots, online and streaming video, in-store displays and across social platforms.
