Lineapelle September 2023: Freudenberg Unveils Sustainable Microfiber Solution Made In The EU For Artificial Leather Applications

WEINHEIM, Germany — July 18, 2023 — Freudenberg Performance Materials (Freudenberg) will be presenting new applications for its European environmentally-friendly Evolon® microfiber technology for Fall/Winter 24/25 fashion and leather goods collections at the international trade fair for the leather industry. For the first time, these include innovative solutions for artificial leather applications suitable for the shoe, furniture and automotive industries. Freudenberg will be welcoming visitors to Booth D02-D04 in Hall 9 of the trade fair in Milan from September 19-21.

Evolon® sustainable microfiber coating substrates

Evolon microfiber fabrics are ideal coating substrates for artificial leather applications in the shoe, furniture and car industries. They are particularly suitable as a carrier material for PU and PVC coatings. Evolon microfiber materials have non-fraying edges, which makes converting easier and quicker. They contain 80-percent recycled PET from Freudenberg’s in-house bottle recycling plant. Furthermore, they are manufactured with no solvent and no chemical binder in the company’s Evolon plant located in Colmar, France. The plant is accredited according to OEKO-TEX STeP sustainability manufacturing certification and the DETOX TO ZERO criteria. European manufacturing offers logistic benefits to European customers through shorter supply chain and transport routes.

Reinforcement material for leather goods

Manufacturers of leather goods also benefit from Evolon microfiber when they use it as a reinforcement material for original leather. It is drapable and soft and provides optimal shaping support for leather. In addition, Evolon materials offer important sustainability advantages for the manufacturing of luxury leather bags, such as being 100-percent made in Europe, eco-friendly and socially-responsible production, and the use of recycled raw materials.

EUROJERSEY – Footprint Report 2022: The Culture Of Sustainability

CARONNO PERTUSELLA, Italy — July 17, 2023 — The Footprint Report 2022 recounts EUROJERSEY’s commitment to sustainability: a well-established asset that represents the company’s DNA.

Sensitive® Fabrics, in fact, are among the most popular fabrics chosen by the leading brands in the sports, clothing, underwear and swimwear sectors, not only for their high aesthetic and functional characteristics, but also by virtue of the production processes with which they are made, aimed at mitigating environmental impacts.

A lot of ground has been covered by EUROJERSEY since it initiated a new culture of sustainability in 2007 with the introduction of the SensitivEcoSystem® program, a holistic vision with which it has sought to concretely reorganize every aspect of corporate life and the entire supply chain in relation to ESG issues.

First and foremost, thanks to the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodologies used since 2009, PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) and OEF (Organisation Environmental Footprint) since 2014, EUROJERSEY can not only monitor and communicate the environmental impact of its processes in a thorough and transparent manner, but also identify opportunities and internal areas for improvement.

Referring to the 17 goals (SDG-Sustainable Development Goals) set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Company has identified three of them as most relevant to its activities: Goal 8 – the social and economic footprint of the program to foster lasting, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all; Goal 12 – responsible production models; Goal 13 – the environmental footprint to combat climate change.

Even if, in fact, these 3 areas can be considered in direct or indirect correlation with all the other SDGs in the 2030 Agenda.

An important new feature of 2022 is EUROJERSEY’s Code of Ethics, the principles of which are set out in the Company’s Charter of Values: Integrity (compliance with laws and regulations, anti-corruption), Loyalty (respect for the individual), Ethics (honesty, transparency, protection of Privacy, Information and Intellectual Property), Social and Environmental Responsibility (safety and environment, administrative management).

Lenzing Introduces New Resource-Efficient  Dyeing Approach For TENCEL™ Lyocell Fibers

LENZING, Austria — July 17, 2023 — Lenzing Group, a leading global producer of wood-based specialty fibers, has introduced a new approach that covers yarn pre-treatment and knitting technique to achieve aesthetics that resemble the wash- down effects of traditional dyeing in ready-to-wear and knit garments. To address the pollution caused by dyeing and finishing in the textile industry, the new approach will significantly reduce environmental impact and is ideal for use on pre-treated fabrics and yarns made with TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers. The approach also complements the wet-processing and production facilities of fabric mills, bringing added benefits for value chain partners.

One-step dyeing process significantly reduces water and energy consumption
In traditional dyeing, multiple washes using a significant amount of water, energy, dyes and chemicals may be required to achieve a designated shade of color. With the new approach, only one round of dyeing is required, reducing water, energy and chemical usage by up to 50 percent, 40 percent and 90 percent respectively1.

“As consumers become more conscious of the environmental footprint of their purchases, designers and manufacturers are seeking innovative ways to ensure that the materials and production processes deployed have a low environmental impact, while expanding design possibilities,” said Rex Mok, vice president of Fiber Technical Marketing and Development at Lenzing. “Our new approach can create wash-down aesthetics or vintage looks on any knit fabric without water-intensive bleaching processes. By overcoming the limitations of traditional dyeing, our new approach is a resource-efficient alternative that helps translate into greater sustainability and more competitive operational costs for fabric mills. We will continue to work with mill partners to drive wider adoption of the new approach and explore new applications within the textile value chain.”

Unleash unlimited design possibilities in knit apparel and denim-looking garments

With the new approach’s direct application to TENCEL Lyocell fibers or TENCEL Lyocell with REFIBRA™ technology, different shades of color, wash-down or fade-out effects can be customized. This makes it ideal to produce ready-to-wear, knit apparel and denim-looking garments in various color shades.

Enhance production efficiency and increase cost-savings for value chain partners

Existing regular, organic, or natural dyes used by yarn makers and fabric mills are compatible with the new approach. As yarn and fabric processed with the new approach do not leave dye residue on machines, the same machinery can be used continuously for the production of fabrics or garments of different colors. With machine down-time being minimized when changing color lots, production delays will be shortened, allowing yarn makers and fabric mills to save costs while enhancing production efficiency and sustainability.

J. Zimmer Maschinenbau: Pioneering Innovations

KUFSTEIN, Austria — July 17, 2023 — ITMA 2023 has brought Zimmer crowds of visitors, which was difficult to cope with at times. A clear sign that not only the omnipresent topic of sustainability, but innovative solutions for carpet and textile production are of great interest.

The introduction of the new COLARIS printer generation with up to 16 color groups was a highlight at the show. Not only the option for 16 colors but also the possibility to operate the printer with multiple ink families have been a novum presented. The next generation of COLARIS printers comes with the Seiko RC1536 printhead generation with lower energy consumption. The open ink system philosophy of ZIMMER AUSTRIA is continued as it offers the customer to choose from a wide range of certified ink suppliers which helps to reduce ink costs and be free from supply constraints. A newly designed ink circulation system without need for a vacuum ensures a stable print run and high-quality print results.

Automated imaging and computer-controlled processes, coupled with artificial intelligence, can open-up completely new directions for the textile processing value chain. The COLARIS-vision camera detection system is a concept that comes in two different versions:

COLARIS-vision I — Match Print to Cut includes an individual piece goods recognition and outline masking with automated computation of the print mask positioning and customization of the design.

COLARIS-vision II — Match to Print is a roll-to-roll print process with seamless detection of a pre-imaged fabric followed by a registered print. The system has an automated distortion compensation which ensures that the print is fitted precisely into the given structure on a web. The design can be fitted exactly despite of any weft-misalignment or shrinkage from fabric preparation in the pre-print process. Multitude applications have so far given textile producers absolute headaches but can be solved through this innovative technology. COLARIS-vision can be seen as a further step towards the automation of the textile printing process.

ZIMMER AUSTRIA, a global supplier in construction of customer-oriented solutions for textile and carpet printing systems can look back on a 150-years tradition. Cone Denim Introduces Noble’s Ionic+® Technology At Kingpins As Prelude To Fall 23 Retail Partner Launch

NEW YORK CITY — July 18, 2023 — Noble Biomaterials, a supplier of antimicrobial and conductivity solutions for soft surface applications, today announces its partnership with Cone Denim revealed at 2023 Kingpins Show in New York, July 19-20. The innovative denim fabric will be featured by Mack Weldon at retail this Fall.

Cone Denim developed a new denim fabric using Noble’s Ionic+® technology, which harnesses the power of positively charged silver ions permanently embedded in yarn fibers to inhibit the growth of bacteria and microbes on the surface of the fabric. Through this advanced technology, Cone has created sustainable protection for jeans that remain microbe and odor-free, thus reducing the need for frequent washing.

“Cone Denim is ahead of the curve offering a commercially ready denim using Ionic+ permanent mineral technology,” says Allon Cohne, chief marketing officer at Noble Biomaterials. “They came to us early on in anticipation of this trend and had a solution ready when market leaders like Mack Weldon called to include for Fall 2023. Ionic+ is well suited for the increased demand of fabric solutions that offer ‘wear more with reduced impact’ benefits.”

“We are excited Mack Weldon has partnered to bring the Ionic+ technology to market, merging the sustainable fabric manufacturing by Cone with the added benefit of sustainable garment care for the consumer,” says Kevin Reardon, senior vice president Commercial Strategy at Cone Denim.

Cone Denim’s fabric combined with Ionic+ technology was designed with sustainability at its core. The Ionic+ performance lasts the lifetime of the garment, resulting in fewer washes, reduced water consumption, and energy use. The denim is also dyed using one of Cone Denim’s Distilled Indigo (pre-reduced) shades, which offers additional water, energy, and chemical savings. Recent industry studies show forgoing even one wash and dry cycle can deliver significant upside in conserving water and energy. The denim industry is increasingly finding new ways to reduce water and energy consumption in textile production. Cone Denim and Ionic+ now offer the same concept of reduced resource consumption to the end user.
