Texworld Evolution Paris Is Set To Return Full Force To Paris Expo Porte De Versailles From February 5th To 7th, 2024

PARIS — November 7, 2023 — Exhibitors at Texworld and Apparel Sourcing Paris have rapidly responded, with a remarkable 75 percent of exhibition space already booked by September. This surge in enthusiasm clearly underlines the truly international aspect of this edition as well as the Asian textile industry’s keen interest in strengthening its connections with European markets. For buyers, this event gains even more strategic importance as it offers a valuable opportunity for contact and exchange with international suppliers of fabrics, materials, and finished products. This interaction is pivotal for shaping and creating their Spring-Summer 2025 collections. The trends presentation and the international conference program are a real asset for a complete experience.

Leading fashion sourcing nations will converge in Paris As they do every year, China, India, Türkiye, Korea, along with Indonesia, Pakistan, and Thailand, will all be represented. Major national pavilions, such as the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) for Turkish manufacturers and the Korean Federation of Textile Industries (KOFOTI), have confirmed their participation. Additionally, Apparel Sourcing Paris will see a growing number of Hong Kong manufacturers, with six already confirming their attendance. At Texworld Paris, which expects over 700 exhibitors, we’ll witness representation across 13 sectors, with a noticeable increase in knitwear, primarily due to the rise of casual wear in recent years. The same goes for activewear performance textiles, which are now part of fashion collections alongside sportswear.

A new hall layout

A notable feature of this February 2024 session is the consolidation of both fairs on two levels in Hall 7 (7.2 and 7.3) at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. This configuration makes it easier for visitors to locate the specific expertise and product types they seek. The central area will host cross-disciplinary activities and offerings, including the Denim Village and the Elite sector. Trend forums will be distributed across the two levels, showcasing top proposals by sector. The T-Club area will facilitate business exchanges at Messe Frankfurt France events. Last but not least, the convenient proximity to the heart of the French capital ensures easy access for European and international buyers to these textile industry events.

Sustainable Development: Guiding Visitors with Econogy

For the past 15 years, the international Messe Frankfurt Group has championed sustainability, guiding trade fair visitors toward manufacturers offering sustainable solutions, and is now focusing on Econogy. This concept, that combines ecology and economic development, has become the framework for the Texpertise Network. Econogy will also play a pivotal role in guiding Texworld Evolution Paris towards sustainable development and structuring the sourcing methods of its sourcing platform.

The Econogy Finder, for instance, will allow visitors to access an online directory of suppliers who produce textiles sustainably. Exhibitor stands that meet these criteria will be clearly marked with visible Econogy symbols. The event will feature several conferences on sustainability, giving the floor to certifiers, industry experts, and NGOs to raise awareness of sustainability challenges, present solutions, and share innovative experiences in production and distribution sectors.

YKK Center Park’s Furusato-No-Mori (Hometown Forest) Designated Toyama Prefecture’s First Nature Coexistence Site

KUROBE CITY, Japan — November 7, 2023 — Furusato-no-Mori (Hometown Forest), which was established within the Kurobe Manufacturing Center of YKK Corp., was designated a Nature Coexistence Site1 by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment. Of the 122 sites (in 35 prefectures) certified for the first half of FY2023, the first year of the program, two sites in Toyama Prefecture, including Furusato-no-Mori, were certified. The award ceremony was held in Tokyo on October 25.

Furusato-no-Mori (Hometown Forest)

The Kurobe Manufacturing Center is making efforts to encourage and advance coexistence with nature, as defined in the “YKK Group Environmental Vision 2050”2. The goal is to create a “factory in a forest” envisioned by YKK founder Tadao Yoshida by planting 20,000 saplings of 20 species native to Kurobe City and restore the forests and waterside areas on the Kurobe River alluvial fan by the time of the company’s 100th anniversary in 2034.

Elements That Contributed to the Designation

  • Works toward the conservation of living creatures, informed by an understanding of the topography of the Kurobe River alluvial fan, the river environment, etc.
  • Has implemented measures against non-native species and the genetic makeup of the area, such as banning the planting and release of non-native species for the purpose of genetic conservation
  • Engages in independent and regular monitoring efforts in the form of biological surveys (once every four years) and tree surveys (once a year)
  • Used as a site for environmental education
Furusato-no-Mizube (Hometown Waterside)

In August of last year, YKK also joined the “30 by 30 Alliance for Biodiversity”3. The aim of the alliance is to establish a mechanism through which to achieve the international target of conserving at least 30% of land and ocean environments as healthy ecosystems. The designation of Furusato-no-Mori (Hometown Forest) as a Nature Coexistence Site is part of YKK’s efforts toward this goal, and moving forward, the company will continue working toward the achievement of these international targets and the realization of a sustainable society.

YKK Center Park Furusato-no-Mori (Hometown Forest) – Overview

In the past, the Kurobe River alluvial fan had been dotted with small forests and waterside areas that were home to a wide variety of creatures. In an effort to combat the deterioration of the area’s natural environment, YKK’s Kurobe Manufacturing Center began in 2006 to collect the seeds of trees native to the Kurobe River alluvial fan and plant them. Thanks to the work of many employees and members of the local community, a total of 20,000 trees of 20 different types were planted from the years of 2008 to 2012. Since, the center has maintained a purposely hands-off approach, observing the changes to the forest through periodic measurements of tree height and biological surveys. A biological survey conducted in 2019 showed that there were 318 species (including 26 species that are considered endangered in Japan and in Toyama Prefecture) living in the area.

Furusato-no-Mori (Hometown Forest) has also been made available to the public as YKK Center Park, along with an exhibition facility for industrial tourism. The park is also used as a site for environmental education, hosting events for children such as the observation of land/aquatic creatures, and wood board/sign crafting and installation.

1 Japan’s Ministry of the Environment certifies areas where biodiversity is being conserved through private-sector efforts as Nature Coexistence Sites. Implementation of the program began in FY2023. The designated Nature Coexistence Sites, excluding those that are already registered as Protected Areas, are registered in the international database as OECMs (Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures). Heimtextil University Contest: Making Young Talents Globally Visible

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — November 7, 2023 — Unusual materials, functional concepts and fabrics with emotional value: The University Contest gives young talents the unique opportunity to present design concepts at Heimtextil. The participants can give free rein to their creativity in conception and implementation.

From works of double interpretation to modular tufted carpets and the exploration of textiles as a potential memory: Each year students from design universities around the world have the chance to submit their latest and most unusual designs and have their concepts evaluated by a selected expert jury based on a set of criteria. “As trade fair organizer, it is important for us to invest in knowledge transfer. Because creativity must be thought of holistically. The industry needs young and unconventional approaches, which we want to promote and develop with our University Contest format,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.

Three finalists exhibit their projects

This year, among the 28 works submitted, three outstanding artists will be given the unique opportunity to present their work free of charge and exclusively at Heimtextil 2024 – and to represent their university. From January 9 to 12 2024, the winners will have the chance to network on an international level and make valuable business contacts thanks to their own exhibition stand in Hall 3.0 in the New & Next area. The entire global industry also benefits from fresh ideas and creative minds that take new paths in thinking and develop marketable ideas.

Creative visions: The successful projects of the University Contest 2023

From unconventional pattern dimensions to functional modular elements and fabrics as a means of communication – three projects with fundamentally different approaches that convinced the jury with their original concepts.

Winner Rebecca Milautzcki describes her work, titled Below the pattern, as follows: “The ambiguity of the work lies in the regulated development scheme and the four defined pattern dimensions that form an aesthetic, constructed formulation of ambiguity. It is enacted through the combination of translucency, materiality and three-dimensionality of the bonding structures.” In her master’s degree in Textile Art / Textile Design, Rebecca Milautzcki developed this project in collaboration with the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau.

In addition to the black and white representation, there is also a very colorful and functional design, developed by Tasja Videmšek: “In my project Home textiles inspired by Bauhaus I focused on modularity of products, developing a modular tufted rug which can be freely assembled into different compositions depending on the needs of the space. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, several design areas were explored, preserving the vision of the movement, and placing it in an environment of a contemporary home”, Videmšek explains her project. She is studying Textile and Fashion Design at the University of Ljubljana and was also able to develop the result as part of her Master’s degree.

Svenja Bremen, Master’s graduate in Fashion Design / Costume Design / Textile Design at HAW Hamburg, is the third winner of the contest. She commented on her project as follows: “Soft memories is a design research project in which I explored textiles as a potential memory. It was especially important to me to find a way to embed personal memories into the fabrics to enhance their value and promote respectful interaction. I want the textiles to be much more than mere fabrics; they serve as powerful means of communication, carriers of meaning, and memory.”

Hall 3.0 offers comprehensive further information on the projects as well as the opportunity to exchange with the young talents.

Italian Textile Machinery: Drop In Orders Intake In Third Quarter 2023

MILAN — November 2, 2023 — The textile machinery orders index, as processed by the Economics Department of ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, dropped fully 20 percent during the third quarter of 2023, compared to the same period for July to September 2022. In absolute terms, the index stood at 84.2 points (basis: 2015=100).

This result is due to a reduction in new orders recorded by manufacturers both on the domestic market and abroad. The decrease in orders in Italy came in at 45 percent, whereas the drop was just 13 percent on foreign markets. The absolute value of the index abroad stood at 80.5 points, and 119.4 points in Italy. During the year’s third quarter, new orders reached 3.7 months of assured production.

ACIMIT President Marco Salvadè commented on the data, stating that: “The order index for the period from July to September 2023 confirms a contraction in collected orders that was already evident in previous quarters. What worries us above all is the situation with our domestic market, where the declining trend has persisted for seven consecutive terms. Due to this situation, which does not only concern the textile machinery industry, urgent measures are needed from Italian Government to strengthen the competitiveness of Italian manufacturers.”

As far as foreign markets are concerned, the orders index confirms an overall weakened global demand for textile machinery. Indeed, for the first half of 2023, Italian exports slowed in a variety of essential benchmark markets, such as Turkey, China and the United States.

“The global economic scenario remains negative, as consumers are facing a reduced purchasing power, with investments in the textile sector consequently also slowing down,” Salvadè concluded. “In less than a month, ITMA ASIA + CITME will be held from 19 to 23 November in Shanghai, primed as one of the world’s major trade fairs for the textile machinery industry, with the participation of roughly 60 Italian textile machinery manufacturers. We can expect some significant indications on the industry’s state from this event, which will be staged in one of the strategic markets for textile machinery demand.”

Hugues Schellenberg, the president, would like to underline, “it is a great opportunity for us to welcome Mireille. She will bring a new approach regards her experience in several industries, on an international level, a great part of her experience has been on top positions, take part to and piloting strategies and significant projects. We chose her for bringing new ideas and the transition with Christian Guinet has been smooth and positive as they had been working together from July this year.

Hugues Schellenberg added it was a significant period while working with Christian Guinet. He had to face the COVID crisis and the particular situation over fairs and international trips. He joined one of our members in 1982 and has been President of our Promotion Committee organizing our road shows, seminars and National pavilions in many fairs and managed our relations with the Textile Press.
