American Roller Purchases Plasma Coatings

American Roller Co., a Union Grove, Wis.-based roller manufacturer, has acquired thermal and
release coatings manufacturer Plasma Coatings Inc., which has plants in Waterbury, Conn.;
Arlington, Tenn.; and Burnsville, Minn. The acquisition comes on the heels of American Roller’s
earlier acquisition of Champion Roller Co., Rock Hill, S.C.

Plasma Coatings is known for developing flame-sprayed special surface material coatings for
rollers and other industrial parts used in nonwoven, adhesive, converting and printing
applications, among others.

Textube Becomes Creform Corp.

Greer, S.C.-based Textube Corp., manufacturer and distributor of Textube yarn carriers, cones,
bobbins and tubes for the textile industry, and Creform® modular material handling systems, has
changed its corporate name to Creform Corp. The change more accurately reflects the diverse nature
of the company’s products and will facilitate expansion of its Creform product lines, according to
the company.

The company will continue its textile products manufacturing operation under the name
Textube: A Division of Creform Corp.

textile industry, while our company contacts and Web address, www.textube.com, will remain the
same,” said Rolf Mueller, executive vice president.

DigiEye Selects SDL Atlas As Global Distributor

England-based DigiEye PLC has named SDL Atlas, also based in England, as the exclusive worldwide
distributor, outside the United Kingdom, for the DigiEye Colour Fastness Testing and Colour
Measurement System. The newly developed DigiEye system utilizes non-contact digital imaging to
capture and measure color and appearance under controlled lighting.

Lectra Acquires Madrid-Based CAD/CAM Supplier

The Boards of Directors of Lectra, a Paris-based provider of CAD/CAM systems, and Induyco, a
Madrid-based apparel company, have approved the purchase by Lectra of Induyco subsidiary
Investronica Sistemas, a CAD/CAM systems provider also based in Madrid.

Investronica Sistemas has provided some 20,000 CAD/CAM systems to more than 6,000 customers
worldwide, including top fashion design houses, apparel makers, and automobile and airplane
manufacturers. The company generated revenues totaling 58 million euros in 2002.

It is active mainly in Spain and Italy, but it also has a presence in Eastern Europe, South
America, China, India and Southeast Asia.

Mahlo Upgrades Automation Solutions

Spartanburg-based Mahlo America has released Version 10A of its Windows® PC-based automation
solutions. The solutions include Qualiscan on-line measurement and control of basis weight
thickness, moisture and coat weight; Colorscan on-line color measurement based on international CIE
color standards; and Optipac dryer optimization for coaters to increase throughput and lower energy
costs.

Uster Launches Company, Places HVI Units In China

Switzerland-based Uster Technologies AG has established a new sales and service company in China.
Based in Shanghai, Uster Technologies (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. also will have liaison offices in key
cotton-growing and -spinning locations around China. Uster, which first established a presence in
China in 1981, expects Uster (Shanghai) will improve the level of support it is able to deliver to
its customers in that country.

For the past three years, China has represented Uster’s largest market, generating increased
sales across all product categories, including laboratory instruments that measure yarn and fiber;
and the Quantum yarn clearer, which provides on-line quality measurement and improvement.

Uster looks to its new Fabriscan on-loom inspection system to generate further sales and
improve the quality of Chinese textile products.

In related news, Uster has sold 13 Uster® HVI™ Classing units to the China Cotton Fiber
Inspection Bureau, which is establishing an HVI-based cotton classification system in China to
replace manual classing.

Cone Mills Receives Financing, WL Ross Submits Winning Bid

Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Mills Corp. has entered into an agreement with Bank of America NA and
General Electric Capital Corp., whereby it will receive $45 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP)
financing to provide working capital until it can exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
initiated last fall

The company expects to emerge from bankruptcy early this year. Through a court-approved
auction process, New York City-based WL Ross & Co. LLC submitted the highest and best bid, in
excess of $90 million, to purchase the company’s assets. The sale is expected to be approved during
a sale hearing scheduled to take place Feb. 9 in the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of
Delaware.

AccuWeb’s IR Edge Detector Guides Nonwovens Mesh

AccuWeb Inc., Madison, Wis., has developed a digital infrared (IR) edge detector for guiding webs
including light nonwovens, mesh and paper. An array of IR sensors in the patent-pending device
monitors lateral web position and ambient conditions, and will automatically compensate for
passline variations and web flutter, as well as interference from dust and other contaminants. The
IR detector is compatible with AccuWeb’s Micro 1000® and Micro 4000® NET controllers.

Monforts Introduces Thermex 6500

Germany-based
A. Monforts Textilmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG has introduced the Thermex 6500, the latest in its
line of Thermex hotflue systems for knitted fabrics. The new modularly designed loop dryer is the
first Monforts’ hotflue equipped with Exxotherm indirect gas heating. It has a fabric capacity of
51 meters, and a roller diameter of 140 millimeters (mm) or 180 mm. The Thermex 6500 features the
Econtrol Knit process, which reduces dyeing time from 12 and 24 hours using discontinuous processes
to just two minutes. The process, suitable for all reactive dyestuffs, achieves up to 5- to
8-percent higher yields, and can lower production costs by 45 percent, according to the company.

PGI Installs Reico III In Mexico, Builds In Shanghai

Polymer Group Inc. (PGI), North Charleston, S.C., has finished installing a Reifenhauser Reico III
multiple-beam spunbond line at its Bonlam operation in Mexico. Commercial production of hygiene
products began at the plant last month.

“The addition of this line will allow us to meet the growing demand for this region and
maintain our position as the industry leader in the hygiene segment in Mexico,” said James L.
Schaeffer, CEO. “This is just one of a number of initiatives the company is pursuing to grow its
franchise in key markets.”

In related company news, PGI has announced plans to build a new facility near Shanghai. The
plant, which will house a state-of-the-art Reifenhauser spunmelt line, will serve medical and
hygiene markets.

“As many of our customers establish production in this region, PGI plans to grow with them,”
Schaeffer said.
