Introducing SleepCharge: A New Sleep Technology Designed For High Performance Rest And Recovery

NEW YORK CITY — November 15, 2020 — SleepCharge powered by Nanobionic, a new brand focused on enhancing sleep performance, launches November 15 exclusively in Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com. SleepCharge uses Nanbionic’s patented far-infrared technology in its fabric applications to enhance and recycle the body’s energy, in a scientifically proven way, that ultimately stimulates local blood flow, and as characterized by the FDA, provides for an overall general wellness of being. As such, SleepCharge performance bedding offers better sleep, enhanced recovery and an overall more efficient sleep cycle. The launch collection includes a mattress protector, pillow protector, mattress pad, sheet set and comforter. Additional product launches will roll out in the coming months.

What is Nanobionic?

Nanobionic is a soft coating made of far infrared emitting minerals that can be applied to any type of surface, such as clothing, bedding, foam, leather or textile product. The minerals in the coating get activated with body heat — energy — emitted by your body and return back this enhanced energy to make you a hybrid engine — a real source of usable and recyclable energy. Returned energy increases local blood flow allowing your body to enhance recovery, improve athletic performance and promote a more restful sleep. Nanobionic is also the recipient of NASA’s coveted iTech award for best product innovation

How does Nanobionic work within SleepCharge’s product range?

Far infrared is more emissive than infrared, offering 90-percent efficacy in restoring energy. Given the nature of the blend of nanobionic minerals, the technology is highly emissive, meaning it works up to three inches away from your body. This means everything from mattress toppers to sheets and pillows will provide health & wellness benefits while asleep.

How are the products made?

Nanobionic is made through several steps. First, we ethnically source the most far infrared emitting minerals available to create the proprietary formula. After the formula is isolated and the minerals are mixed, everything is then melted into a liquid form. Finally, the nanobionic liquid mineral compound is applied directly to the fabrics and textiles from which we create SleepCharge products.

Does the power of the technology fade over time, use and washing?

Nanobionic is near permanent, with very little loss of efficacy after loads of washes, making SleepCharge a long-lasting solution to improving healthy sleep.

SleepCharge will launch in all Walmart stores nationwide, and on Walmart.com on November 15, 2020.

H&M’S New Heat Up Tech With THERMOLITE® Is The Secret To Smart Seasonal Style

STOCKHOLM — November 5, 2020 — This season H&M introduces pieces that bring the smart solution to staying warm with great personal style. Heat Up Tech is a collection of men’s layering pieces using THERMOLITE®, a new lightweight technology for warmth without the bulk. It’s about the perfect pile and fleece designs for an urban street style look, as well as thermals as a base layer all season long. Heat Up Tech with Thermolite will drop at H&M stores worldwide, as well as at hm.com, on November 12.

“Innovation is at the heart of what we do with menswear at H&M. Heat Up Tech with Thermolite uses new technology for true functionality as well as that essential utilitarian look. These pieces will become the foundation of your cold weather wardrobe, whatever your personal style,” said Ross Lydon, head of Menswear Design at H&M

This season’s layered look is more than just about style: it’s also about the smartest ways to keep warm whatever the day brings. H&M has created Heat Up Tech with Thermolite to introduce the latest heat-retaining technologies to the everyday wardrobe.

Thermolite uses hollow fibers that trap warm air, creating an insulating layer. Those hollow fibers are crucial, resulting in a lightweight fabric that’s cuts out all the bulk. For H&M’s design team, it’s a chance to make the sharpest functional pieces that will become the foundation layer of the winter look.

Pile is a key texture for the season, like the pile zip-up vest in either off-white or olive green with a nylon chest pocket and neck trim. It’s a versatile piece that adds contrast and warmth to winter layering. There’s also a pile zip-up jacket, as well as a pile half-zip jacket, all with a turtleneck to help keep out the cold.

Fleece jackets and half-zip sweaters bring streamlined warmth and protection, while tapered leg joggers in cotton and Thermolite have toggles at the ankle to further keep in the warmth. Meanwhile thermal crewneck T-shirts, both long and short sleeve, and long johns are the essential base layer pieces at the core of the winter wardrobe.

Heat Up Tech will drop at H&M stores worldwide, as well as at hm.com, on November 12.

SGS Details North American Flammability Standards For Tents And Sleeping Bags

GENEVA, Switzerland — November 5, 2020 — SGS, an inspection, verification, testing and certification service provider, has published details of the flammability standards that tents and sleeping bags must conform to in North America. This advice comes at a time of growth in the camping market as consumers look for alternatives to flying during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A recent survey by Kampgrounds of America (KOA) found that 20 percent of the people booking into their sites in 2020 were first time campers. Many people see holidaying close to home as a safer alternative to flying during the pandemic. At the same time, it allows them access to the outdoors at a time when many people are restricted to their homes. Camping also has the added advantage of being a relatively cheap holiday with a low barrier to entry – an inexpensive tent from a local store is all that is needed.

While being in the great outdoors is certainly healthy, it is not without dangers and chief among these risks is fire. To reduce the chance of injury, modern tents and sleeping bags are manufactured with flammability in mind.

Manufacturers of tents and sleeping bags operating in the markets of Canada and the United States must ensure their products are safe and conform to relevant market legislation.

In Canada, the tent is defined under Item 31.1 of Part II of Schedule I of Canada’s Hazardous Products Act as a shelter made in whole or in part of fabric or other pliable materials. A new national standard for tent flammability and labeling — CAN/CGSB-182.1-2020 — was published by the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) in April 2020. This replaces the Tent Regulation (SOR/2016-185), although currently the new standard is voluntary until amendments are made to both tent and toy regulations.

The USA does not have specific legislation covering tent flammability at the national level but several states, including California, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and New Jersey, mandate CPAI-84 — Flammability of Camping Tents. However, this standard is now outdated in terms of most modern tent materials. Instead, tent manufacturers should follow ASTM F3431-20 — Standard Specification for Determining Flammability of Materials for Recreational Camping Tents and Warning Labels for Associated Hazards. This is a revision of CPAI-84 and it follows the test methods and flammability requirements in CAN/CGSB-182.1-2020.

Manufacturers should note that California makes a distinction between small (less than ten people) and large tents. The fire marshal’s office states that the materials in a small tent must comply with the Title 19 small scale test, which does not differentiate between the materials used for flooring, walls and roof materials. For large tents, the Californian code can be interpreted as requiring compliance with NFPA 701 – applicable when the tent functions as a public assembly space.

When looking at sleeping bags, both Canada and the US use technically equivalent standards:

  • Canada: ASTM F1955-15 Standard Test Method for Flammability of Sleeping Bags; and
  • USA: CPAI-75:1976A Rate of Burn Standard for Sleeping Bags.

Around the world, tents and sleeping bags might not have specific legislation relating to tent and sleeping bag flammability but they will still come under general safety requirements. This can still mean recalls if the product is found to be dangerous. It is therefore important that tent and sleeping bag manufacturers ensure their products comply with the correct market regulations for fire safety.

Oldcastle Approves WEAV3D Composite Technology For Reinforcement Applications In Polymer Concrete Products

ATLANTA, Ga. — November 5, 2020 — Oldcastle Infrastructure, a CRH company and provider of infrastructure products, has approved WEAV3D composite lattice material for reinforcement applications in its polymer concrete and SMC composite products. Ideal for underground energy, transportation and communication applications, WEAV3D composite lattice is a completely non-metallic reinforcement material that provides high levels of durability and strength, as well as resistance to corrosion and other environmental conditions.

Initially developed for a new polymer concrete cable trench designed for 16,000-pound wheel loads, WEAV3D composite lattice was utilized in place of traditional steel wire reinforcement. The lattice is based on a thermoplastic composite material that forms an adhesive bond with polymer concrete and provides exceptional impact and tensile load resistance.

WEAV3D’s lattice reinforcement was able to provide targeted strength around the drain holes and ends of the cable trench, reducing the likelihood of damage during transportation and installation. It also eliminates the corrosion that can occur when products are cut or drilled and steel is exposed. This advanced reinforcement will be available for use in a wide range of Oldcastle’s infrastructure products.

As a leader in composite material products and technology, Oldcastle is always looking to utilize innovative materials to bring lightweight, durable and economical products to the market. “The WEAV3D lattice offers flexibility and performance in the design, handling and placement of reinforcement that cannot be matched with traditional steel reinforcing,” said Oldcastle Product Manager Chris Schultz, P.E.

“Using thermoplastic composite materials that bond with Oldcastle’s resin yields the best possible strength and mechanical properties,” said WEAV3D Founder and CEO Dr. Christopher Oberste. “Our composites are also cost competitive with steel reinforcement.”
