STONEY CREEK, Ontario — December 21, 2021 — Baffin is proud to introduce the Territories Collection, a new collection for all, manufactured in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Launching exclusively online this month, the Territories Collection marks the premier direct-to-consumer first sales strategy for the Canadian brand.

Inspired by Canada’s northernmost regions, the Territories Collections features traditional cold climate boots for the most extraordinary winter activities, providing the comfort and durability that Baffin is renowned for. Named after two of Canada’s Territories, the collection contains a women’s boot, NUNAVUT and a men’s boot, YUKON.

Since 1979 Baffin has been committed to the manufacturing of products in Canada. When Baffin can achieve and exceed the high production standards of the products, while maintaining domestic manufacturing, they always do. Baffin has continued to repatriate its production, now having more product than ever before manufactured in the Stoney Creek factory, including the new Territories Collection.

This focus on Made in Canada goods has allowed Baffin to continue strong and uninterrupted throughout COVID-19, avoiding major delays due to the global supply chain issues and ensuring inventory for the upcoming cold weather season. This commitment to increasing domestic manufacturing also allows for quicker turnaround times and responding to trends, which led to the evolution of the Territories Collection.

“The Territories Collection has gone from idea to completed project in the span of one sales season. Our domestic manufacturing allowed us to bypass the delays and timeframe usually associated with outside manufacturing and offered flexibility with our launch and sales plans,” says Jessica Liut, Marketing Manager. “The launch of the Territories Collection marks the premier direct-to-consumer first approach for a Baffin collection. Launching as an online exclusive first, followed by a launch for our Wholesale Partners in Fall 2022, this collection is a direct bridge from the minds of Baffin’s product and development team, to the hands of the manufacturing team in Stoney Creek, to the feet of our customers.”

The collection features Baffin’s Removable Comfort-Fit multi-layer inner boot system, containing proprietary technology including Thermaplush™ soft, next-to-foot wicking layer for warmth, B-Tek™ Foam lining for comfort, B-Tek Heat for high-loft breathability in a broad range of temperatures and Hydromax™ layering for improved moisture management. The inner boot system also features a Vapourized Aluminum Membrane for energy reflection and heat regulation, PolyWool polyester wool blend for breathable warmth and Diamond Net insulation for wind-resistant protection with a lightweight feel. Designed with a stylish leather upper and a Polar Rubber® outsole for maximized grip and longevity of boot at cold temperatures, both YUKON and NUNAVUT come in brown and black colourways.

The Territories Collection is Arctic Rated in Baffin’s Real-World Testing™ (RWT™) evolution which helps recommend cold-comfort levels associated with Baffin footwear. Arctic Rated products have been proven by Baffin in the Arctic. Cold comfort at this rating is best achieved during moderate to high activity during extreme cold temperatures. The collection is categorized as B-Tek Dry Waterproof Base — offering the maximum level of wet protection at base. This category of waterproofing ensures that your footwear is purpose-driven — keeping you dry where the snow may melt, and supporting thermal regulation where breathability is needed.

Israeli Startup Nemo Emerges Out Of Stealth To Turn The Promise Of Nanomaterials Into Industrial Reality

PETAH TIKVA, Israel — December 20, 2021 — The need to produce new, sustainable technologies that improve people’s lives while maintaining the health of the planet requires access to innovative materials designed for safe, sustainable manufacturing and production. Established in 2018, Israeli startup Nemo Nanomaterials is now emerging out of stealth mode to provide game-changing nanomaterials that revolutionize the possibilities of industrial additives across virtually every market sector.

Take the automotive industry as an example. It is moving away from old, polluting products to greener, leaner, and smarter vehicles. Demand that has contributed to the global market for lightweight automotive materials now being projected to surpass  $99 billion by 2025. But to achieve this, new materials are needed, which is one of the markets that Nemo Nanomaterials addresses.

Modern vehicles present unique demands for materials and require them to be light and durable while providing electrical conductivity as well as electromagnetic shielding. Most importantly, all materials used must be sustainably managed throughout the product lifecycle. Invariably, this has seen manufacturers making tradeoffs when it comes to material properties and functionality.

However, with Nemo Nanomaterials, the industry challenges have become a thing of the past. Nemo’s proprietary technology and techniques for processing and mixing carbon nanomaterials enhance plastics with features of metals for advanced electronic systems, under the hood parts, fluid supply lines, battery casings, internal and structural components, with reduction of up to 30 percent of the weight for parts when compared to metals.

Beyond the automotive sector, Nemo Nanomaterials technology can be applied to electronics, textile, construction, telecom, energy, the aviation and aerospace sectors.

Nemo’s technological breakthrough is the sole enabler for replacing metals with plastic materials — by achieving desired electrical conductivity and EMI shielding properties while maintaining the original features of the plastic.

On EMI shielding and electrical conductivity alone, the company can reach an addressable market that surpasses $10 billion. And that is just one of almost limitless applications and possibilities.

Nemo Nanomaterials was established in 2018 by Alexander Zinigrad and Jonathan Antebi. The company has successfully raised $7 million in pre-seed and seed funding, the bulk of which has come from the Cyprus-based GEM Capital. The startup is already working with 10 large companies, including multi-billion-dollar conglomerates. The list includes paying customers and co-development partners in various stages of pilots and product validations. Nemo has started manufacturing tons of its products following commercial orders from customers.

“High-end carbon nanomaterials are known to mankind for decades. They recently were made available on a commercial scale. Many companies have made lots of promises in regard to making real industrial products out of them, but Nemo is unique in making them a reality. Nemo’s technology enables a revolution in nano-carbons. It solves many wide and acute industry challenges across a myriad of specifications while delivering ready-to-use additives that can be used by the industry utilizing existing machinery and procedures. Nemo Nanomaterials is going to provide materials that are required for the future of manufacturing,” said Jonathan Antebi, Co-founder and VP Business Development at Nemo Nanomaterials.

With Nemo Nanomaterials technology, there is zero performance tradeoff in materials while enabling innovative design and functional possibilities across industry sectors. Its additive means customers can more efficiently use raw materials while also delivering the most effective end-of-life recyclability possible.

“Refineries, and not petroleum, reshaped the world because they provided new materials that enabled new industrial capabilities. With Nemo Nanomaterials, high-end nanocarbons are just as transformative to reinvent the world of the future, today,” said Alexander Zinigrad, co-founder and CEO of Nemo Nanomaterials.

Kelheim Fibres – Severe Impact Of Natural Gas Price Increases

KELHEIM, Germany — December 20, 2021 — Over the past 14 days, the wholesale cost of natural gas in Germany has risen by more than 50 percent. This increase presents an extraordinary challenge for industry, and there is no sign of support or intervention from the government. Indeed, recent statements are destined to provoke a worsening of the situation.

Kelheim Fibres is entirely dependent on natural gas for the generation of electrical energy and steam and has no viable short-term alternatives. In addition, the raw materials used by the company often consume high levels of energy in their production and are also increasing significantly in cost. These increases in cost jeopardize the future of the business if they cannot be passed on though the supply chain.

Kelheim Fibres is calling on the government of Germany to take immediate steps to mitigate the impact of the cost increases for natural gas and is committed to work to implement alternative sources of energy in the medium term.

In parallel, the disruption to global logistic networks that has been seen throughout 2021 is now expected to continue throughout 2022. Massive increases in shipping rates — in some cases in excess of 80 percent — are being imposed without notice and with no opportunity for negotiation. These costs must also be passed on though the supply chain if businesses are to remain viable.

To address these issues, Kelheim Fibres is implementing the following measures with immediate effect:

  • The increased cost of energy and freight will be passed on in prices to customers at the soonest opportunity;
  • If necessary, changes or adjustments to existing agreements will be negotiated to reflect the increased cost levels;
  • If the necessary increase in fiber prices cannot be secured, cuts to production will be implemented with the objective of minimizing losses until the cost increases can be mitigated.

As the drivers for the increases in natural gas prices appear to be temporary in nature, we will maintain any price adjustments under review and pass on any relief to customers.

Craig Barker, CEO of Kelheim Fibres, describes the current situation as critical. “The cost increases we are facing are unprecedented and call for swift and decisive action,” Barker said. “We are determined to take the necessary steps to preserve the future of our business and provide security of supply for our customers. At the same time, we are relying on the support of our customers to help us conquer the challenges our business is facing.”

Arvato Supply Chain Solutions Opens Another Logistics Center In Spain

GÜTERSLOH, Germany/MADRID, Spain — December 20, 2021 — Arvato Supply Chain Solutions has opened a new logistics center in Parla, around 20 kilometers south of Madrid. At the 25,000-square-meter facility, the internationally active supply chain and e-commerce service provider is now handling all logistics and fulfillment for the online business of a major company in the fashion industry.

“The new business at the Parla site confirms our strategy of growing with a focus on e-commerce and end-customer-oriented industries,” says Emilio Juaranz, managing director of Arvato Supply Chain Solutions in Spain. “In this regard, Spain is a market with great potential in which we intend to further engage in the future.”

At the same time, Spain is an important part of Arvato’s international network. For example, in addition to Parla, the company already operates two other locations in Alcalá de Henares with a total of around 28,000 square meters of warehouse space.

“Arvato’s general goal is to further expand its global network of locations in order to offer customers scalable infrastructures and a high degree of flexibility,” Juaranz said. “We can thus support them in growing in their focus markets and give them rapid access to new markets.”

To this end, investments have also been made in the network in 2021 — several projects with a logistics footprint of more than 250,000 square meters are currently being implemented worldwide.

The distribution center in Parla is also part of this strategy. Montepino Logística, one of the leading developers and asset managers of logistics real estate in Spain refurbished the new building. The modern building has a height of eleven meters and is equipped with 25 loading ramps for efficient incoming and outgoing goods. With its location in the Madrid metropolitan area, proximity to the main transport hubs and access to the A-42 freeway linking Madrid to Toledo, the site meets all the requirements for the rapid distribution of orders demanded by the booming online retail sector.

“In the new logistics center, we will employ an annual average of around 600 new employees, who will ensure 24/7 operations in three shifts,” Juaranz added, underlining the importance of the site for the region. “This number can increase to as many as 1,000 employees during peak seasons with particularly high shipping volumes.”

To ensure well-being during breaks, the developer has equipped the property with a covered lounge area for employees, which is connected to a large outdoor terrace.

In terms of sustainability, the distribution center also sets standards. It was refurbished by Montepino Logística to the highest quality, sustainability and efficiency standards and is set to be certified to the Gold Standard of the LEED (“Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”) classification system awarded by the US Green Building Council for sustainable buildings.

Freudenberg Performance Materials Increases Its Prices For Nonwoven Performance Materials For Flooring And Filtration Applications Across EMEA

ARNHEM, The Netherlands — December 20, 2021 — Freudenberg Performance Materials announces today a general upward adjustment of its prices for nonwoven performance materials for flooring and filtration applications in EMEA. This revision, effective January 1, 2022, has become necessary because of sustained and unprecedented surge in cost for raw materials, packaging, freight, consumables and energy combined with disruptions in our inbound supply chain.

Prices across all categories have by far outpaced our expectations and are forecasted to remain on high levels throughout 2022. This historic price trend has placed significant pressure on Freudenberg Performance Materials, and we understand in a similar way on our customers.

At this stage our business can no longer absorb the effects of such high price levels. We will therefore adjust our prices for all our Colback® and Lutradur branded nonwoven products for flooring and filtration application by double-digit increases depending on product types.

Freudenberg Performance Materials will continue to work hard on improving productivity to offset inflationary pressure to keep attractive price levels and to avoid further price adjustments. We will continue to monitor the market development and in case of sustained and unexpected downward trends we will adjust our prices accordingly.

More than ever Freudenberg Performance Materials stands with its customers, and we will continue to stand by our customers with our commitment to outstanding quality and service.
