ITMA 2023 Exhibitor Preview: Cygnet Texkimp

CHESHIRE, England — May 25, 2023 — Fibre handling specialist Cygnet Texkimp will introduce its compact Robot-AGV live on stand at this year’s ITMA exhibition. The UK-based machine builder will also feature its full range of fibre unwinding and tensioning creels for the traditional and advanced textile markets using a large-scale demonstrator rig.

Visitors will be able to see both technologies in action throughout the seven-day show.

The Robot-AGV is designed to load and unload packages of fibre or yarn weighing up to 100kg on and off a range of equipment including tyre cord creels, winders, cabling and twisting machines, and shelving and racking structures, allowing manufacturers to reduce manual handling and improve processing speeds.

The compact AGV has been built to fit down narrow shelving aisles or between creels and other equipment, making it an ideal solution for companies that want to automate their process in a busy factory setting. The robot can reach down to lift from floor-level package holders or up to load and unload above operator height, saving them from repetitive and potentially dangerous lifting and loading actions and increasing factory efficiency.

The robot is mounted onto an omni-directional AGV fitted with drive wheels that can rotate 360 degrees and allow it to navigate in any direction. Unlike transfer cars, which run along rails, the AGV can run anywhere it is programmed to and is ideal for use in factories with restricted floor space. The system can be programmed to follow a pre-determined route, and easily re-programmed to accommodate layout or task changes, or controlled manually via a joystick.

Laser scanners and encoders enable the AGV to plot its exact location and navigate the factory environment safely. If an obstruction is detected, the AGV will slow down or stop moving immediately, which means it can be used for loading and unloading processes alongside operators performing manual tasks.

The system also offers full packing and palletising capability, including weighing, labelling and RFID tagging for inventory control, data management and traceability, wrapping, packing and palletising.

Creel demonstrator rig

Alongside the company’s Robot-AGV, a large-scale demonstrator rig will also highlight its range of bespoke fibre unwinding and tensioning creels for all materials. These include mechanical tyre cord creels for the global tyre industry, high-capacity weaving creels with intelligent controls and customised guide system, and the company’s low-pressure, pneumatic Flatline creel for the unwinding of high-end carbon fibres used in the manufacture of prepregs and other composite materials.

“The technologies we have on stand at ITMA all have a vital role to play in maximising efficiency and quality in the textile manufacturing industry,” says Cygnet Texkimp’s Director of Technology, Lee Simcock.

“As a fibre handling specialist, our key focus is always to design systems that handle and process the fibre or yarn with ultimate care and minimal contact, to eliminate the potential for damage and protect its integrity.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the textile industry onto our stand to demonstrate how these solutions can help to enhance the quality of the fibre while maximising process efficiency, increasing production, reducing repetitive manual tasks and enabling product traceability.”

Momentum Expands Its Industry-Leading Repertoire With The Launch Of Pindrop, A Comprehensive Range Of Rigid Acoustic Solutions

IRVINE, CA. — May 24, 2023 — Known for their award-winning textiles and wallcoverings, Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering is advancing its commitment to providing the commercial design industry with smart, sustainable solutions through the introduction of Pindrop – a dedicated acoustics line featuring rigid solutions of all scales. The initial three collections launching within the Pindrop range include shapes and tiles, architectural layers and larger scale panels, all of which are Red List Free and manufactured entirely of recycled PET.

These hyper functional solutions offer designers and specifiers a new repertoire from Momentum to create calm, engaging and sound-conscious spaces across commercial, hospitality, workplace and healthcare environments. While the brand has offered rolled high-quality acoustics products for many years – and continues to build out these offerings – Pindrop completes Momentum’s holistic acoustic product range with engaging designs to enhance interior auditory experiences.

“With the introduction of Pindrop, we bring to market our industry-leading expertise in sustainable solutions for commercial design in an entirely new category,” comments Paul Cleary, President and CEO of Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering. “Rigid acoustics have increasingly become an integral part of so many public-facing interior spaces as the application of these solutions meaningfully affect experience and function. With the introduction of Pindrop, Momentum becomes a one-stop source for designers to specify sustainable solutions for wallcovering, interior upholstery, exterior upholstery and acoustics of all types.”

Three diverse collections anchor Pindrop: Shapes & Tiles, Panels and Architectural Layers. Within these ranges, Momentum devised a rich offering of patterns, textures, colors and finishes to complement one another across the full suite of designs – 12 solid colors, 3 textured patterns in 6 colorways, 3 large-scale etch patterns and 3 large-scale print patterns, also available in 6 colorways respectively.

“When designing Pindrop, our goal was to curate a collection of versatile solutions leading with our expertise in texture, color and sustainability,” explains Momentum’s Vice President of Design, Wallcovering Jill Nelson. “Each collection and colorway have been designed to work individually or as a full product family, in complement to each other to help designers in seamless specification.”

The options available in the Pindrop collection include:

Shapes & Tiles

Available in Square, Rectangle, Hexified, Petal, Tuxedo and 24×24 Tiles, Pindrop Shapes & Tiles offer artful building blocks from which endless installation arrangements are possible. These shapes and tiles are designed to be mixed and matched or installed in repeat, allowing for the combination of interlocking forms with color, pattern depth and texture. The shapes and tiles are available in the Pindrop collection’s 12 standard colors as well as texture prints – Zuri, Clara Silk, and Milinet. The Petal, Hexified and Tuxedo shapes incorporate a half-inch offset in their installation which creates an eye-catching 3-dimensional effect.

Panels

Momentum’s Pindrop Panels are available in standard sizes 48”x118” or 48”x120” and can be easily cut-down or made-to-measure based on project installation to ensure a perfect fit. With the ability to be mixed and matched or installed singularly, the panels come in the Pindrop collection’s 3 texture patterns – Zuri, Clara Silk and Milinet, and statement patterns either etched, offered in 12 standard colors, or printed in 6 different colorways. The etched patterns include Crosscut, Zag and Circ with complimentary companions in the printed options: Cross the Line, Zig Ombre and Circlet.

Architectural Layers

Designed to offer architectural intrigue, the Architectural Layers range in the Pindrop collection include Bengal, Cabana, Weatherboard and Weatherboard Wave designs. Available in light and dark wood-inspired print or solid colors, these layers can be installed vertically or horizontally to create an architectural element that offers an auditory dampening in high-sound interiors. The Bengal and Cabana designs are defined by differing widths of straight panels whereas the Weatherboard and Weatherboard Wave designs are defined by straight or scalloped singular slats that can be installed in a variety of formats.

Finishes & Colors

Across Pindrop, designers and specifiers have the choice of 12 solid colorways, 3 texture patterns each available in 6 specific colorways, 3 large-scale etch patterns and 3 large-scale print patterns also in 6 colorways. The texture patterns include Zuri, Clara Silk and Milinet and are designed to give a visual illusion of textile-like textures. Inspired by wood grain, Zuri offers a biophilic visual across the Pindrop solutions. Clara Silk is a design taken from the ethereal nature of watercolor paintings applied to textiles, offering a soothing yet intriguing statement across the rigid acoustic collection.

Milinet is a true textile-inspired design, offering specifiers the opportunity to play with rigid acoustic installations that look like textiles. Within the etched and printed statement patterns, the collection includes three companion designs: Crosscut and Cross the Line in etched and printed form respectively are large scale geometric designs that can work in harmony with each other. Zag and Zig Ombre in etched and printed form respectively give an undulating pattern that can be artfully combined together or installed separately. Circ and Circlet in etched and printed form respectively feature different scale cut circles that are different yet harmoniously interesting together.

Pindrop is now available for specification and order placement.

UMF|PerfectCLEAN’s Klorese® Disinfectant Kills Candida Auris In Just Two Minutes

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — May 24, 2023 — UMF|PerfectCLEAN’s Klorese® disinfectant is now EPA-registered for reduced contact time against more than 20 pathogens, including the rapidly spreading Candida auris (C. auris) fungus. Klorese kills C. auris in just two minutes, making it a powerful weapon against this superbug which, according to the CDC, kills one in three patients within a month of diagnosis. Registered on all 14 EPA lists covering disinfectants, Klorese now also holds a soft surface pathogen claim, which is significant in that Klorese can help prevent cross contamination from cubicle curtains and other healthcare textiles.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that C. auris, an emerging fungus considered an urgent antimicrobial resistance (AR) threat, spread at an alarming rate in U.S. healthcare facilities from 2020 to 2021. C. auris case counts likely increased for many reasons, including a strain on healthcare and public health systems during the pandemic and resulting poor general infection prevention and control practices in healthcare facilities.

“The CDC emphasizes the need for adherence to proven infection prevention and control practices to slow the spread of C. auris,” said UMF|PerfectCLEAN CEO George Clarke. “Core to this is the process of cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces in all patient care environments with a disinfectant that is EPA-approved against Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) endospores, MRSA, biofilm, and C. auris. The reduced contact time and a neutral pH mean Klorese is even more seamless for environmental services (EVS) staff to use and the most proactive disinfectant against all ESKAPE bacteria and pathogens that cause healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Together with its soft surface pathogen claim and inclusion on all 14 EPA disinfectant lists, Klorese is the most versatile surface cleaner and disinfectant combination on the market.”

Klorese also excels in the sustainability category. A small, effervescent tablet that is added to water on-site, Klorese significantly reduces the storage footprint and cost when compared to ready-to-use disinfectants. Klorese also eliminates dispenser maintenance, labor, and staff health concerns due to exposure to toxic chemical disinfectants.

  1. auris protocols
    C. auris is concerning because it is often multidrug-resistant; it is difficult to identify with standard laboratory methods; it has caused outbreaks in healthcare settings; and it is a yeast capable of producing biofilm, which protects pathogens from many disinfectants. Added Clarke, “If you are not disinfecting patient care environments for biofilm, then you are not disinfecting.”
  2. auris has been found in multiple locations in patient rooms, including high-touch surfaces, such as bedside tables and bedrails, and surfaces farther away from the patient, such as windowsills. C. auris also has been identified on mobile or reusable equipment that is shared between patients, such as glucometers, temperature probes, blood pressure cuffs, ultrasound machines, nursing carts, and crash carts.

Because C. auris can persist on surfaces in healthcare environments, the CDC recommends using a disinfectant from the EPA List P, which includes all EPA–registered hospital-grade disinfectants effective against the fungus. EVS staff should perform thorough routine and terminal cleaning and disinfection of patients’ rooms and other areas where patients receive care using an appropriate disinfectant. Healthcare personnel should clean and disinfect shared or reusable equipment after each use. In all cases, users should follow the manufacturer’s directions for use of surface disinfectants and apply the product for the correct contact time.

Klorese is registered on EPA Lists B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, L, M, N, O, P, and Q. It is the only EPA-registered disinfectant with approved claims for C. diff endospores, C. auris, and biofilm that also is registered for use in electrostatic sprayers. Hypochlorous acid (HOCL), the active ingredient in Klorese, is the most effective disinfectant in the chlorine family. Studies have shown that HOCL is 4 to 10 times more efficacious than chlorine bleach.

“Artelon is focused on bringing value to patients and healthcare providers through a platform that enhances soft tissue repair while restoring stability and motion,” said Greg Banker of Vensana Capital. “They are on a mission to enable faster recovery and improved outcomes for patients, while fitting seamlessly into clinical workflows.” Added Vensana’s Kirk Nielsen, “Vensana is excited to join the Artelon team and to support their efforts to establish themselves as a technology and market leader.”

Artelon’s Dynamic Matrix® technology is a proprietary polymeric bio-textile for musculoskeletal soft tissue reconstruction. Dynamic Matrix is designed to mimic the natural mechanical and biological properties of healing ligament tissue. It has been proven in clinical studies to protect the surgical repair during early healing, quickly restore the mechanics of motion, and support development of regenerating tissue before dissolving over five to six years.
