Kornit Digital Launches The Atlas, The Super-Industrial, Next-Generation Direct-To-Garment Printing Platform

ROSH HA’AYIN, Israel – January 14, 2019 – Kornit Digital, a global supplier of digital textile printing innovation, has announced the introduction of the Kornit Atlas. Following the success of Kornit’s Storm HD6 and Avalanche HD6/HDK, the Atlas is the first instance of the company’s next-generation direct-to-garment printing platform, providing garment decorators and screen printers a unique tool for mastering the current and future challenges of the textile supply chain.

The Kornit Atlas is a heavy-duty system created for super-industrial garment decoration businesses. It was designed to deliver a typical annual production capacity of up to 350,000 impressions, optimizing production efficiency and cost of ownership. The Kornit Atlas is aimed at highly productive garment decorators, mid to large size screen printers and innovative businesses looking to combine state-of-the art technology with lowest cost of ownership. The system is equipped with new recirculating print heads and comes with a newly developed ink, NeoPigment™ Eco-Rapid. The Kornit Atlas is equipped with a unique printing engine, featuring an enhanced version of Kornit’s HD technology, complemented by a professional RIP (raster image processing) software solution, and produces prints that meet the highest standards of retail quality and durability. The all-new Atlas comes ready for Kornit’s future releases of its cloud-based business intelligence, productivity analytics and optimization software platforms, scheduled to be released in the second half of 2019. It will allow for easy future network connectivity required to support fleet management and optimization of global multi-systems and multi-site enterprises.

Omer Kulka, Kornit’s vice president of Marketing and Product Strategy, commented, “This is a huge leap forward, not only for Kornit, but also for the direct-to-garment industry as a whole. We have delivered the Atlas on the collective feedback of thousands of Kornit systems’ operators and on the experience collected from hundreds of millions of printed garments — simply put, the Atlas is the best and most cost-efficient direct-to-garment printing technology for high-quantity and high-quality production requirements. On top of that, the Atlas has been designed in a modular and future-ready way, driving quick and easy implementation of new developments in the future. At Kornit, we remain focused on constantly introducing technology that allows the industry’s leading brands to better connect with their customers and to adapt to the rapid changes in consumer preferences, impacting the fashion and apparel industry and is driven by the talent in our global research and development division.”

The new NeoPigment Eco-Rapid ink is a main driver of the Atlas’ retail quality prints. It provides an industry-leading white ink opacity, matched to those of conventional screen inks, and meets highest durability standards on multiple fabric types. Its increased color gamut and saturation allow for deep full tones and precise spot color matching. The new ink has been developed with sustainability in mind, carries the Oeko-Tex Eco-Passport certification and is GOTS pre-approved. The new Eco-Rapid ink will be integrated with new Storm HD6 and Avalanche HD6/HDK systems and will also be retrofitted to existing Kornit HD systems. Kornit intends to switch all existing HD customers to NeoPigment Eco-Rapid during the year 2019.

The launch of the Atlas completes an extensive period of beta testing, with extremely positive feedback from early adopters. Deborah H. Merrill, president of the Delta Group, parent company of DTG2Go, commented, “Many of the Kornit Atlas’ innovative capabilities, including the wrinkle detection and pallet ergonomics, present clear productivity benefits. The new Eco-Rapid ink provides impressive brilliance and color gamut, meeting all wash test standards with no discernible scent. We are glad we had the opportunity to beta-test the Kornit Atlas and are certain it will become a key component within DTG2Go’s production line.”

Jon Lunt, co-founder and director at T Shirt & Sons, added, “Using the Atlas, T Shirt and Sons achieved a significant boost in garment decoration production through the peak holiday season. In several weeks of rigorous testing in a high-volume production environment, the Kornit Atlas — with its new Eco-Rapid ink set — was a revelation, doubling our output with very high-quality prints and the reliability this high-pressure season demanded.”

The system can be viewed in live demonstrations at Kornit Digital’s booth at the ISS Long Beach show, taking place January 18-20, 2019, and in all of Kornit’s experience demo centers around the globe shortly after, as well as at Fespa Munich from May 14-17, 2019 and ITMA Barcelona, June 20-26, 2019. In addition, the company is planning Open House events to demonstrate the new systems in April in its regional subsidiaries.

Passing On The Know-How At The Monforts Production Site

MÖNCHENGLADBACH, Germany – January 14, 2019 – As the key site for the construction of Monforts finishing machines, Montex Maschinenfabrik in Austria is currently working flat out to meet a very busy new order schedule, while also finalizing the new exhibits which will be unveiled at ITMA 2019 in Barcelona this June.

“We have been working very closely with the Monforts research and development team in Mönchengladbach, Germany, to take the latest new ideas through testing and prototyping, in readiness for the exhibition and for future series production,” said Montex plant manager Gert Hanzl. “We are fully exploiting the many new possibilities being offered by Industry 4.0 in the continuous development of design and manufacturing methods.”

Located in St. Stefan, in the centre of Austria’s Lavant Valley, Montex Maschinenfabrik was founded by Monforts in 1982 as an advanced manufacturing hub.

“Our area is known as the ‘paradise of Carinthia’ due to its favorable climate,” says Gert. “Lignite was mined up to a depth of 600 meters here until 1968. From the outset of Montex in 1982, we have specialized in all aspects of machine production, including high-precision sheet metal working, laser cutting and welding, the assembly of components, painting and shipping, along with a well-organized spare parts service.”

The Montex machine shop is equipped with advanced Trumpf laser and CNC cutting machines and presses, with the powder coating of exterior panels also carried out for rapid turnaround.

“The respective electrical switch cabinets for the machines are delivered just-in-time from Monforts in Germany according to our production schedules,” said Gert.

Special machines

While there is standardization in series-produced Monforts machines, Montex is increasingly called upon to construct tailor made machines with unique designs, according to the special needs of the customers.

“We aim for the best combination of already-proven components and carefully-tested special constructions,” said Gert. “We are able to handle extremely large projects, having recently shipped a complete finishing line to one customer within eight weeks, and we were particularly pleased with our proven design of a challenging tenter frame with a 320-degree temperature chamber. We are currently manufacturing machines with working widths of 5.6 meters and we can produce those with widths of up to seven meters, if requested.”

The core Monforts machine range, including the industry standard Montex tenters, along with relaxation dryers, Thermex dyeing ranges and Monfortex/Toptex compressive shrinking ranges as well as Matex padders and Eco Applicator minimal coating units, has been significantly expanded with the acquisition of Timatec in 2015, to include a complete portfolio of coating units for virtually all applications in textiles. These have been further developed and been adapted to Monforts electrical plc-control standards and are now available as the Monforts texCoat and Allround units.

“The business is currently running very well and with ITMA 2019 approaching we are ready to meet a special challenge,” Gert says, emphasizing that the loyalty and satisfaction of the Montex workforce is of paramount importance.

Advanced training

“We have employees who have worked at this site since the foundation of Montex Austria, but it’s very important that we train apprentices at the same time, in order to pass on our know-how and ensure the high standard that customers expect from Monforts systems is maintained going forward,” he says. “One of the key advantages of being here in the heart of Europe is the Trial Training System — one of the best training systems in the world. It combines theoretical instruction in a vocational school with practical training both within the company and in training workshops.

“Established staff also train regularly to develop new skills and everyone is involved at all stages of production and trained to multi-task. This gives us flexibility and strength.”

Furniture Manufacturer Design Foundry Selects Catawba County For New Facility

RALEIGH, N.C.— January 8, 2019 — Design Foundry LLC will open a new furniture manufacturing facility in Catawba County, creating 202 new jobs over five years, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company plans to invest more than $3.1 million in the project.

“North Carolina is the international home of the furniture industry with leading manufacturers, designers and events,” said Governor Cooper. “Our state’s experienced furniture talent is the reason for our success. Design Foundry’s decision to open a new facility in Hickory both underscores our reputation and sets the industry up for future growth.”

Design Foundry will manufacture upholstered furniture in partnership with a major furniture and home goods retailer. The company will emphasize the strong tradition of handmade furniture combined with technology in manufacturing to create new methods of manufacturing through supplier partnerships and internal research and development.

“We are excited to make Catawba County our home,” said Eric Fulcher, CEO and president of Design Foundry. “The community has a strong tradition of being makers of great things, with furniture being an important part of that history. Investments in STEM programs within Catawba County helped affirm our decision to select Hickory, N.C., as the location for this new company. We believe Catawba County can be at the forefront of combining innovative technology with the artisan craft. We are excited about the opportunities this will create for everyone. Together, with our skilled men and women, new generations will be introduced to upholstery manufacturing. We look forward to partnering with suppliers, other businesses and community organizations to make this happen. The foundation of everything we do, is to enhance the lives of those in our community. Design Foundry – Building People, Making Furniture.”

Design Foundry will hire craftspeople, in addition to those with education or experience based in science, technology, engineering and math. The company plans to use advanced equipment and practices in their manufacturing processes. Salaries for the new jobs will vary by position and experience with the average salary of $57,995. The average salary is higher than the Catawba County average of $41,531.

“Workforce needs in every industry are changing rapidly, and furniture manufacturing and design is no different,” said North Carolina Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland. “I look forward to partnering with Design Foundry to make sure we are investing in our world-class furniture talent and offering opportunities for students and workers to gain new skills as the industry innovates.”

The North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. (EDPNC) led the state’s support for the company’s selection.

The Design Foundry facility in Catawba County will be facilitated, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee earlier today. Over the course of the 12-year term of this grant, the State expects the project will grow the state’s economy by an estimated $320 million. Using a formula that accounts for the new tax revenues generated by the new jobs, the JDIG agreement authorizes the potential reimbursement to the company of up to $1,545,300 spread over 12 years. State payments only occur following performance verification by the Departments of Commerce and Revenue that the company has met its incremental job creation and investment targets. JDIG projects result in positive net tax revenue to the state treasury, even after taking into consideration the grant’s reimbursement payments to a given company.

Because Design Foundry chose to designate its corporate headquarters in Catawba County, classified by the state’s economic tier system as Tier 2, the company’s JDIG agreement also calls for moving as much as $171,700 in new tax revenue generated through the grant into the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account. The Utility Account helps rural communities finance necessary infrastructure upgrades to attract future business. Even when new jobs are created in a Tier 2 county such as Catawba, the new tax revenue generated through JDIG grants helps more economically challenged communities throughout the state. More information on the state’s economic tier designations is available here.

“Design Foundry is bringing 202 new, well-paying jobs to Hickory, and it’s our community’s world-class furniture craftsman and furniture manufacturing training opportunities that sealed this great deal for Catawba County and North Carolina as a whole,” said N.C. Representative Mitchell Setzer.

“Catawba County has the experienced craftsman that furniture manufacturers need to succeed,” said N.C. Senator Andy Wells. “I am proud to welcome Design Foundry’s new project in Hickory.”

Partnering with N.C. Commerce and the EDPNC on this project were the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, Catawba County, the City of Hickory and the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation.

Prudential Overall Upholds Commitment With Clean Green Recertification

ALEXANDRIA, Va.— January 11, 2019 — Prudential Overall Supply, the Irvine, Calif.-based uniform and facility services provider with laundries from coast to coast, has been re-certified Clean Green, reflecting the company’s continued dedication to operational efficiency and sustainability. Companies that have earned this certification adhere to TRSA-designated water and energy use thresholds and deploy best management practices (BMPs) consistent with the ASTM International environmental laundering standard.

Prudential Overall Supply’s customers can be assured their uniforms, floor mats, towels and other reusable textiles are washed, dried and finished with processes that maximize sustainability and reduce greenhouse emissions. Clean Green certified operations demonstrate significant commitment to conservation and green operations through these BMPs:

  • Recovering heat from drained hot water and heat dispersed from the process of warming water;
  • Recapturing drained water from rinses for reuse;
  • Using environmentally friendly detergents;
  • Removing solids and liquids from wastewater;
  • Solar energy and energy-efficient lighting;
  • Recycling programs;
  • Re-routing trucks to save vehicle fuel; and
  • Spill prevention plans.

The Clean Green certification is valid for three years at a time. TRSA inspects laundry facilities seeking certification and approves documentation of their water and energy use and BMP deployment through production reports they submit to auditors during the inspections. TRSA’s certification management protocol includes auditor training by the association’s inspection program administrator.

Clean Green aligns with the ASTM International standard, Guide for Sustainable Laundry Practices, which recognizes key criteria for the certification as universal indicators of maximum sustainability in commercial laundry work. ASTM’s review of TRSA BMPs verified these as the most effective and practical techniques for a laundry to achieve green objectives.

TRSA members prompted development of the standard, which was vetted in the sustainability subcommittee of the ASTM Committee on Textiles. Top technical experts, scientists and environmental professionals from outside the linen, uniform and facility services industry reviewed the BMPs. ASTM is the global leader in developing and delivering voluntary consensus standards unparalleled in building consumer confidence in product and service quality.

“I applaud Prudential Overall Supply for their sustainability efforts and maintaining the highest standards in their production and delivery operations,” said Joseph Ricci, TRSA president and CEO. “Meeting all the criteria for certification is not easy, but Prudential is committed to industry-leading processes and technologies.”
