ITMA 2019: Resounding Success For Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers In Barcelona

MILAN — July 22, 2019 — The 18th edition of ITMA, the global textile machinery trade fair which has just concluded in Barcelona, has proven to be a great success for Italian textile machinery manufacturers. ACIMIT President Alessandro Zucchi stated that he noted “A great many satisfied exhibitors and visitors, which is a clear sign of optimism for Italy’s textile machinery sector.”

ITMA 2019, held in Barcelona June 20-26, closed with some positive figures. Overall, the halls that held 1,717 exhibitors witnessed the passage of 105,000 visitors from 137 countries over the show’s seven days.

Italy confirmed its leadership position as the country with the most exhibitors (364), coming in second in terms of the number of visitors (10% of the total attendance figures), just behind Spain. The main visitor Countries also included India (8%), Turkey and Germany (7%).

“ITMA remains a must-see event for the industry, and the primary global stage at which to show new developments in technology,” emphasized Alessandro Zucchi, president of ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers. “As far as our own country is concerned, the number of Italian exhibitors and visitors bears witness to the vitality of our textile industry. The visibility of Italy’s contingent and presence is the result of the profound commitment, including in economic terms, made by our businesses, along with indispensable support in the realization of significant promotional initiatives for ITMA carried out by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Trade Agency.”

Solutions for increasingly eco-sustainable textile processes were being proposed by the majority of exhibitors. Here too, Italy proved to be top of its class, with a product offering that provides savings in water, energy and raw materials. Sustainability was also the main focus at the ACIMIT press conference, at which the ACIMIT Green Label Awards were assigned to two Italian machinery manufacturers, Tonello S.r.l and Loptex S.r.l., who have stood out for their outstanding commitment among ACIMIT’s associated members, in reducing the quantity of equivalent emissions of carbon dioxide produced during the operation of their machinery over the last few years.

Italian companies have also been major players in the wide scale modernization project of the textile industry in Egypt, presented at ITMA by representatives of the Egyptian government. Projected investments between 2019 and 2021 will amount to one billion euros, with the first phase including machinery by some notable Italian machinery manufacturers: EFI Reggiani, ITEMA, Marzoli and Savio.

In conclusion, president Zucchi’s commented: “The many innovations we’ve seen in Barcelona, both in the areas of sustainability and digitalization, certainly enhanced the interest of countless visitors. I believe that for a great many machinery manufacturers, the combination of sustainability and innovation will once again represent the key to success at the next edition of ITMA, slated to be held in Milan from 8 to 14 June 2023.”

X-Rite Releases LED Lamp Kits For Its Light Booths

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —July 22, 2019 — X-Rite Inc. and Pantone LLC today announced LED Lamp Kits for their popular light booths, the SpectraLight QC and Judge QC. As more retailers, homes, offices, and commercial environments adopt LED lighting for improved efficiency and reduced energy costs, the new kits allow brands, manufacturers and suppliers to easily update their visual evaluation and color assessment process to accommodate today’s lighting trends.

“Brands and manufacturers who want to ensure the highest level of product quality and color consistency in today’s retail environment are increasingly adopting LED lighting as part of their color control program,” said Marcus Jones, product management director, X-Rite and Pantone. “X-Rite developed easy-to-install LED lamp kits that allow customers to retrofit existing X-Rite light booths by replacing the fluorescent store lighting with an LED source. Within a matter of minutes, our customers can add a 4000K LED source as an option for evaluating incoming materials, samples, and final products for color consistency and physical defects under controlled lighting conditions.”

Lighting plays a critical role in how a person perceives the color and appearance of an object. It is essential that brands and manufacturers consider all lighting sources under which a final product may appear, including daylight, factory, store, and home lighting environments. With the LED lamp kit, X-Rite light booths can simulate a wider range of lighting conditions, including dual daylight options (D50 lighting for print and D65 for industrial applications), incandescent, fluorescent, and LED illumination.

The new LED Lamp Kits work with:

  • SpectraLight QC light booth, which features seven different light sources, is ideal for color-critical visual assessment of large and small items under multiple lighting conditions.
  • Judge QC an affordable, durable light booth with five light sources for accurate evaluation of color under controlled lighting conditions for print, packaging and industrial applications.

X-Rite LED Lamp kits and installation videos are now available.

Montana Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney Receives Inaugural Recycling Impact Award

WASHINGTON —July 19, 2019 — Montana Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney today was awarded the first-ever Recycling Impact Award, a nationwide recognition of his work on recycling stewardship. The Recycling Impact Award is presented to a National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) member who is committed to working within a state, region, and/or communities to positively impact resource conservation and recycling.

“Lt. Governor Cooney is an influential public leader in our community, state, and country promoting economic and environmental benefits of recycling,” said Pacific Steel & Recycling CEO & President Jeff Millhollin, who presented Cooney with the award. “Furthermore, Mike has been instrumental developing and supporting policy in the best interests of both his constituents and the recycling industry. This includes co-sponsoring the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ ‘Scrap is not Waste’ resolution in 2016, which the NLGA subsequently adopted.”

The Recycling Impact Award is an annual award presented by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) in partnership with the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA).

“Lt. Governor Cooney is a champion of the recycling industry, not just through policy, but also through the example he sets personally,” said ISRI President Robin Wiener. “While working at the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, he collected recyclables from other employees and took them to a collection center himself. He also works at collection points throughout the state on his own time as a way of promoting recycling. The Lt. Governor is also an advocate for rural recycling programs throughout Montana. For his efforts to promote recycling we are pleased to honor Montana Lt. Governor Mike Cooney with the first Recycling Impact Award.”

Lieutenant Governor Cooney is also the head of Montana’s SMART Schools Challenge. The program encourages schools to promote energy efficiency, environmentally sound practices, and reduce waste by recycling. As a result of this effort 82,000 pounds of material was diverted from landfills this year and into the recycling stream.

“As Lieutenant Governor, it’s been a priority to make recycling simple and accessible to more Montanans and encourage everyone, especially young people, to be thoughtful about their choices and impact on the planet,” Lt. Gov. Cooney said. “It’s an honor to be recognized and I’m thrilled to keep working with Montanans to protect Montana for generations to come.”

“This award recognizes established and up-and-coming leaders committed to effectively tackling the current and future challenges of our nation,” said NLGA Director Julia Hurst. “By recognizing Lt. Gov. Cooney, attention is brought to his accomplishments in Montana in a way that can bring new ideas to other states.”

The award was announced and the presentation made during the NLGA 2019 Annual Meeting in Wilmington, DE.

“Since being appointed Interim CEO, Bonnie has moved quickly to sharpen the company’s focus on core priorities that have stabilized the business and positioned Chico’s FAS to deliver improved top- and bottom-line results,” said David Walker, chair of the board. “We received interest from a number of qualified external CEO candidates who brought deep merchant experience. The board determined, however, that the best way to build on the progress underway at this time is to appoint Bonnie as CEO. In addition to providing continuity, Bonnie’s leadership enables us to continue leveraging both her experience driving numerous successful turnarounds at other apparel retailers as well as the knowledge she already has of Chico’s FAS.”

Brooks said: “The leadership structure announced today will strengthen the organization, create clear lines of responsibility and accelerate our sales driving priorities. I am confident we are focused on the right areas and moving in the right direction with stronger performance expected in the second half of the year. Internal and external stakeholders have expressed strong support for the work we are pursuing. I and associates across the Company are energized by this work and the opportunities ahead. Her ability to re-imagine a business, optimize organizational design and enhance the customer experience ideally suits what we need to improve the performance of our apparel brands. Molly has led multiple vertical brands to success and some have risen to become top performers in the country. We welcome Molly to the company and are excited about the contributions she will deliver at Chico’s and WHBM.”

Langenstein said: “I am excited to be joining Chico’s FAS and to have the opportunity to lead Chico’s and White House Black Market. I believe Chico’s and WHBM are unique brands with the potential for growth that far exceeds what they are delivering today. I look forward to tapping into my experience in merchandising and helping the brands succeed against a backdrop of rapid industry change to reinvigorate sales and consumer enthusiasm.”

The company commented that Karen McKibbin, Chico’s brand president, tendered her resignation earlier this week to pursue other opportunities. Brooks said: “We extend our thanks to Karen for the many contributions she has made since joining the company in April and wish her well in her future endeavors. With enhancements at Chico’s in quality, overall aesthetic and product mix, customers responded favorably to our Spring and Summer assortments, and we have a solid base from which to build for the Fall and Winter seasons.”

Company Affirms Fiscal Second Quarter and Full-Year Outlook

As previously announced, under Brooks’ leadership, the company has reset priorities for growth to focus on three distinct areas. These include driving stronger sales through improved product and marketing; optimizing the customer journey by simplifying, digitizing and extending the company’s unique and personalized service; and transforming sourcing and supply chain operations to increase product speed to market and improve quality.

Given the progress being made on the company’s new operating priorities, Chico’s FAS is today affirming its fiscal 2019 second quarter and full year outlook provided on June 11, 2019. Organic Silk Manufacturer Bombyx’s Use Of Regenerative Agriculture Leads The Organization To Success

HONG KONG —July 18, 2019 — Bombyx, a China-based organic silk manufacturer, has announced a larger than expected silk cocoon harvest as a result of its commitment to regenerative agriculture technology. This technology has led to a positive environmental impact, a higher standard of living for local farmers and a higher-quality harvest.

Bombyx is founded on the core principle that sustainability and organic agricultural processes are not only necessary, but lead to increased market share and profitability for the whole supply chain. In order to produce the highest quality cocoon for their customers, Bombyx uses organic fertilizer, releasing fewer carbon emissions and restoring the vitality of the soil, allowing farmers to resume the planting of mulberry trees and prepare for the next harvest quicker and more efficiently. Bombyx also teaches their sericulturists to whiten the cocoon in a technical way so that the quality of the cocoon is not reduced, nor are there any damaging effects on the environment.

“Truly committing to regenerative agriculture has brought Bombyx to new heights,” said Hilmond Hui, president of Bombyx. “By committing to organic agricultural practices, regardless of the cost, we have significantly grown our sericulture base, created thousands of jobs and producing a large, high-quality harvest.”

After just one year of development, the area of the sericultural base has grown from 2,000 mu  (~330 acres) to 16,000 mu (~2,600 acres).  A further result of the harvest is an increased standard of living for local farmers. Since the launch in the Nanchong region, an additional 3,000 jobs have been created. This high yield has led to better pay for the farmers and Bombyx’s organic agricultural practices are creating a healthier environment for the local community.

Founded in 2017 by PFGHL Group, Bombyx creates environmentally conscious textiles through historically sustainable and responsible practices. Bombyx’s current product portfolio includes 100 percent silk and silk blends available to designers and garment manufacturers. Bombyx is connected to a network of ecologically-conscious partners, clients and communities. Through originality, communication and advocacy, Bombyx’s mission is to make silk an aspirational, affordable and sustainable material.
