Cooksongold Additive Manufacturing (AM) In Partnership With Institut für Textiltechnik Of RWTH Aachen University (ITA), EOS GmbH And AMPS GmbH Set To Revolutionize The Glass Fiber Industry

AACHEN, Germany— May 14, 2020 — Cooksongold AM and Sempsa JP, part of the Heimerle + Meule Group, announced on May 13, 2020, that they are working to innovate glass fiber production by 3D Printing — also known as Additive Manufacturing — the Tip Plates of Bushings made from Precious Metal.

Working in partnership with the Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University (ITA) and EOS GmbH (EOS), Cooksongold AM have produced a full-size Tip Plate from a platinum/rhodium alloy that has successfully passed its initial production trials at Johns Manville in Slovakia.

Cooksongold AM has been working with EOS for several years to industrialize its M 080 and M 100 AM machines and make them compatible with precious metals. Cooksongold AM has also developed a wide range of precious metal parameters for use in the EOS AM technology.

The ability to now print with precious metals on an industrial scale and, through innovative AM strategies, optimize applications to make them commercially viable, is proving a powerful technology enabler. Combine this with the research being carried out at ITA as well as the manufacturing expertise and history of Sempsa JP, it now becomes a seismic step forward to the additive manufacturing technology being rolled out, on a global scale, for Industrial Production of precious metal applications. ITA is a key partner in transferring the consortium’s additive manufacturing expertise to the glass fiber industry.

To facilitate this ‘revolution’ Advanced Manufacturing Process Solutions GmbH (AMPS) has been established. It will act as a ‘technology showcase’ for the complete new manufacturing process chain as well as provide R&D and prototyping services. Glass fiber companies from around the world were quick to join up and it has been structured to suit every participant’s individual needs. A ‘cost-sharing’ environment, free of intellectual property, sits above individual research and development ‘cells’, where all the commercially sensitive work takes place. This novel way of collaboration is identifying innovation that will continue to advance glass fiber production beyond recognition over the next decade.

As a result of this unique approach to worldwide technology implementation, the members of the collaboration were awarded the ‘JEC Composites Magazine Special Prize’ on May 13 online for the first time due to recent global health crises, recognizing the true potential for AM within the glass fiber industries.

“I am incredibly proud to be receiving the JEC Magazine Special Prize but even more proud of my team, who have managed to bring together a global collaboration in such a way that it is poised to deliver game-changing material and design innovation and efficiencies in production, that could’ve only been dreamed of a few short years ago,” said Martin Bach, Managing Director of Cooksongold.

“We are excited to be receiving this prestigious award for our work in the field of additive manufacturing for bushings,” said Professor Thomas Gries, director of ITA. “We truly believe that the developments will be a key enabler for future innovations in the field of glass fibre production, and I am proud of my team of researchers and our collaborators to have made this possible. As an institute developing processes, equipment and machinery, ITA goes beyond just developing fiber and textile products. Digital manufacturing of the bushings allows us to step across existing process innovation borders and allows production and product innovation never seen before.”

“At EOS we are working every day to make industrial 3D printing a sustainable, mainstream manufacturing process,” said Thomas Weitlaner, director of Additive Minds & Business Development of EOS added. “The 3D printing of tip plates is another great example, how additive manufacturing can bring real business value and innovation to the glass fibre industry. Additionally, we see a lot more promising applications that can further increase the efficiency of the glass fiber production process. The combination of such innovative applications and the setup of Additive Manufacturing in the Digital Factory will result in huge innovation potential.

I am very proud of the joint team effort so far which is confirmed by receiving this prestigious JEC award and look forward to the outcomes of the consortium project.”

UK Outdoor Clothing Retailer Regatta Weathers Cegid Cloud Technology

LYON — May 21, 2020 — Having successfully completed a rollout of Cegid Retail POS software across its European and North American store estate, outdoor clothing specialist Regatta is migrating from on-premises infrastructure management to the cloud, with Cegid’s cloud SaaS application. The Manchester-based retailer aims to future-proof the business as it continues to open new stores, by adopting cutting-edge retail technology.

Weathering the Great Outdoors

Since 1981 outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Regatta has been catering for all those who love the great outdoors. Today, Regatta sells through around 180 stores across 11 countries, employing more than 1,400 people.

With the initial rollout of Cegid Retail to 60 stores completed in 2017, Regatta wanted to further enhance its technology capabilities with a move away from on-premise hosting of servers in favour of a SaaS model for cloud hosting. A major challenge of on-premises hosting was the management time required when updates needed to be implemented or when downtime issues occurred. It was felt a SaaS cloud solution, managed by a third party, would free up the Regatta IT team’s time, and deliver efficiency benefits across the store network. As for all retailers, server uptime and data security are major priorities, made even more challenging when international expansion is planned.

Regatta’s head office team has a strategy to build agility into the IT infrastructure so that international expansion can take place simply and cost effectively. They want to be able to set up the store technology infrastructure quickly and easily as they enter new countries, with issues such as compliance with local tax and currency issues taken care of, and hosting and data storage competently managed at every site.

Moving Clouds

In March 2020 the migration to Cegid Cloud SAAS was completed. The Cegid Retail software is hosted on Cegid’s SaaS application, removing the need to rent server storage on-site. Cegid is also providing the mechanism to manage the infrastructure and can handle all compliance activity and the necessary software updates to align to the latest product roadmap, greatly easing up the pressure on internal teams.

With Cegid managing Cegid Retail Software updates, Regatta is always in alignment with all the latest product offerings including new functionality from the Cegid roadmap.

The migration is the latest stage of a longer relationship between Regatta and Cegid. In 2016, Regatta selected Cegid Retail for its global POS solution with modules chosen to run alongside the POS software that could integrate with Regatta’s existing ERP software. This was installed across around 350 point-of-sale (POS) terminals in 170 stores across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States. Installations in the Czech Republic and Solvakia are planned for 2020.

The Cegid Retail solution has enabled Regatta to integrate replenishment, inventory management, promotions management and customer relationship management into its ERP solution. Business processes are therefore now administered on a centralized platform, eliminating the need for spreadsheets and manual processing of data. Regatta sought out a solution that would give them a single platform that could host every country’s POS and associated store functionality.

There is also now business-wide visibility of store inventory and CRM data. The replenishment and inventory management modules have helped Regatta streamline supply chain, merchandising operations and promotional activity.

Thanks to the installation of the latest Cegid Retail software, Regatta maintains its strength in technology capabilities and is ready for the future. It has the CRM module to carry out personalized marketing to customers and can build its retailing services such as ‘endless aisle’ selling and Clienteling in stores. Omnichannel functionality is being planned for 2020.

The Regatta team found that Cegid was able to offer valuable international support and systems know-how during the roll-out of the solution.

Centralized solutions

Thanks to the Cegid Retail implementation over recent years and the current migration to cloud infrastructure hosting, Regatta is today in a strong position to continue its ambitious growth path.

“We recognized early on the need to run one solution for many international locations, rather than having to seek out a new POS system for each country we entered,” said Chris Bulmer, group IT director at Regatta. “With so many local currencies to deal with, tax rules and different configurations required location by location it was essential for us to partner with a specialist retail software supplier who knows the clothing retail industry and has international reach and experience.”

He added: “Now with cloud hosting as well, we can build further agility into the business while taking the pressure off our internal teams who are busy with everyday retailing responsibilities.”

Noble Biomaterials Announces Launch Of New Brand Identity — Ionic+®

SCRANTON, Pa. — May 20, 2020 — Noble Biomaterials, the global supplier of antimicrobial and conductivity solutions for soft-surface applications, today announced the launch of a new brand identity — Ionic+™ — for its antimicrobial technology formerly known as XT2. The new brand name, logo and tagline will more clearly convey the benefits and story of Ionic+, a technology that uses positively charged silver ions to provide microbial and odor protection for the life of a product. More than 30 leading brands, including Athleta, Mack Weldon, Fox Racing, Rhone, Hill City, Tory Lee Designs, Giro, Rhoback, Gekks, BN3TH, and Silvon bedding & towels already use Ionic+ to impart a performance edge to their products.

“We designed the new Ionic+ brand identity to clearly express the benefits and power of this technology, which harnesses the power of positively charged silver ions to fight microbes on soft surfaces like athletic apparel, bedding, and towels,” said Joel Furey, founder and chief commercial officer of Noble Biomaterials. “Importantly, with the increased need for fabric that is essentially self-cleaning of microbes, Ionic+ is being more widely adopted in healthcare and PPE, with brands like Chargeurs for masks and Octo Safety Devices for respirators. The growth of the business drove the need for a name that more closely aligns with the technology’s mechanism of action.”

Ionic+ uses the power of positively charged silver ions to fight the growth of microbes and odor- and stain-causing bacteria on soft surfaces. Apparel and bedding that doesn’t allow for bacteria to grow and multiply doesn’t need to be laundered as often, which saves consumers time and money and can help extend the useful life of products while also helping save the environment.

“Noble Biomaterials pioneered the use of silver in textiles for its antimicrobial and conductive properties,” said Christy Raedeke, chief marketing officer. “The new Ionic+ brand identity truly captures the essence and power of this technology, incorporating the word ‘ion’ and the plus sign, which symbolizes the positive charge the ions carry and the endless potential the technology provides to our broad range of customers and end consumers. The opportunities for storytelling are so much greater with Ionic+ and our brand partners have been overwhelmingly supportive of the change.”
