OBERTSHAUSEN, Germany— May 9, 2022 — Optimizations, further developments and innovations are an integral part of STOLL’s activities. The flat knitting technology company has recently launched a new offering in the form of defined innovation packages. The aim here is to make Stoll’s high innovative strength even clearer and enable customers to benefit from it more quickly. “The demands made on flat knitting technology are changing all the time, whether in the case of technical textiles for transportation and furniture fabrics or medical solutions well as in the fashion sector, where new yarns — such as recycled yarns or innovative technologies, such as smart textiles — have to be taken into account all the time,” said Erhard Vöhringer, sales manager of the Stoll Business Unit in the KARL MAYER Group “Our customers always have to keep abreast of the latest developments. We are therefore continuously developing appropriate improvements, and with our innovation packages we are now offering even more detailed demand-oriented solutions.”

Detail optimizations for more overall performance

The innovation packages have the benefits for customers in focus and were tailored to the respective target groups. Every optimization contained therein leads to a decisive improvement in production. All of the solutions developed can be easily integrated into existing STOLL machines.

Innovation package Number One

Innovation package Number One will be launched on the market in a few weeks’ time and is aimed explicitly at knitters who focus on technical textiles. The focus is on convenience and process acceleration. Simple network configuration, expansion of the number of NP values, extended functionality when loading and saving the pattern and also improvement of handling in connection with Production Management from PPS are just some of the features of the package. “The corresponding updates for the machine control system are available to our customers for download free of charge on Customer_Net. In the future, there will also be a cloud-based offering,” explained Erhard Vöhringer.

Innovation package Number Two

Still in the pipeline, included in the Number Two innovation package, are improvements for the maintenance area — regarding the use of lubricants and the maintenance intervals (predictive maintenance) — as well as optimizations in terms of sustainability, for example when it comes to reducing consumption of oil and increasing reliability. These solutions will be suitable for all machine types and applications.

The focus here is on improvements in belt take-down, the import and export of data and support for additional storage feeders.

A physical improvement in handling is promised by the new lighting including mirror directly on the machine.

In addition, the development teams are currently working on optimizing various knitting qualities and increasing user-friendliness. So you can already be curious!

Concentrated innovative power

The Stoll development team, with several hundred engineers and technicians in the fields of electronics, software, patterning, and design, never runs out of topics. Questions like “What is the market looking for? What do customers want?  Which changes do the machines have to meet and which ones do the software control and design program have to meet?” are first discussed, evaluated and debated together as a team and then go into the development phase. “Our customers can be absolutely sure that all our innovations are meticulously tested before we go to market with them” emphasizes Erhard Vöhringer. This also applies to the solutions in the innovation packages.

Heraeus Invests For A Majority Share In Leading PET Recycler Perpetual Technologies  – Company To Be Re-Named Revalyu Resources For Global Expansion

HANAU, Germany — May 10, 2022 — Heraeus Holding GmbH, a global Fortune 500 company, announced it has invested substantial equity to take a majority stake in perPETual Technologies, a PET recycling company based in Kleinostheim, Germany.

To drive global expansion under one brand, Heraeus decided to rename the company “revalyu Resources GmbH.”

PET, which stands for polyethylene terephthalate, is the most common thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in textiles, packaging containers for liquids and foods, thermoforming for manufacturing and many other consumer products.

revalyu has developed a breakthrough and environmentally sustainable depolymerization technology to recycle post consumer PET bottles into sustainable esters (monomers), which is the base chemical building block for anything polyester based. revalyu’s Polymer can be used to manufacture high quality sustainable PET products. Today, the company produces filament yarns for the textile industry in its manufacturing facility in Nashik, India. It currently employs around 300 people.

revalyu’s technology offers a cost-effective continuous recycling process, which extracts dirt and impurities more efficiently thereby delivering high purity recycled PET. It also uses 91 percent less energy and 75 percent less water than conventional processes for producing PET polymers. It can be used in all PET production processes.

Hexcel Launches Hexply® Nature Range: Natural Fibers Combined With Bio-Derived Epoxy Resins Provide Sustainable Options For Industrial Markets

STAMFORD, Conn. — May 10, 2022 — Hexcel has developed a new product range that combines Hexcel resin systems made with bio-derived resin content with natural fiber reinforcements to create material solutions for Automotive, Winter Sports, Marine and Wind Energy applications.

HexPly Nature Range includes proven resins such as HexPly M49, M78.1-LT and M79 but with bio-derived epoxy resin content. The excellent resin characteristics remain unchanged in the new Nature Range products, maintaining high mechanical performance and consistent processing properties.

In addition, the HexPly Nature Range provides prepreg options with natural fiber reinforcements that can be seamlessly integrated into existing production processes.

Hexcel worked with TÜV Austria to provide independent, high-quality measurement and assessment of the bio-content of HexPly Nature Range products. TÜV Austria’s OK biobased certification uses a standardized measurement of the biobased carbon content enabling transparency and easy like-for-like comparison between products.

At JEC World in Paris on May 3-5, Hexcel presented an alpine ski produced by the Tecnica Group Ski Excellence Center which produces skis for Blizzard and for Nordica using HexPly Nature Range M78.1-LT UD flax fiber prepreg. In addition to providing a bio-based material solution, the natural fiber-reinforced prepreg also offers the potential to improve impact performance and vibration damping in the ski.

Techtextil 2022 Exhibitor Preview: Jowat

DETMOLD, Germany — May 10, 2022 — Environment-friendly materials and maximum process sustainability are of crucial significance in the textile industry. This trend is supported by Jowat with products from its Green Adhesives series which are sustainable and powerful at the same time and which will take center stage at the adhesive manufacturer’s booth at Techtextil this year.

Resource-saving adhesives with a certified bio-based content are an optimum choice for companies that are pursuing a sustainable reduction in their use of fossil-based raw materials. Jowatherm-Reaktant® GROW 631.20 is the first bio-based reactive PUR hot melt adhesive available for the lamination of materials in the textile and automotive industry. The product has been certified “DIN-geprüft biobased” and “Green Leaf by Intertek” and has a bio-based raw material content of more than 20 percent. Its performance characteristics are equal to the tried and trusted conventional products of the Jowat portfolio: The bio-based adhesive is manufactured at the enterprise’s headquarters in Detmold and meets high requirements concerning its wash resistance and textile feel, and provides a flexible application temperature range between 110°C and 140°C. Changeovers are very easy, it can be integrated in existing application processes.

Increased protection of employees in production is another hallmark of sustainable and responsible enterprises. Since the early 2000s, Jowat has therefore been developing PUR hot melt adhesives which are not subject to hazard labeling requirements. The resulting product group Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR supplies different reactive PUR hot melt adhesives with hazard-free labeling which are already being used successfully in a wide range of applications. Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR 630.99 now also provides a hazard-free alternative for the textile industry. Due to a free monomer isocyanate content of less than 0.1 percent, the hot melt adhesive is not subject to hazard labeling and does therefore not require compulsory training starting from 2023. On the performance side, the adhesive impresses with a broad spectrum of adhesion, good initial strength and a low processing temperature from 100°C to 130°C. It can be processed using established production machines with gravure roller or slot nozzle applicators.

The two Green Adhesives have a wide field of applications ranging from mattress and pillow case production to the manufacture of building textiles, abrasive materials, cleaning textiles and to all textile lamination operations in the automotive industry. Both adhesives of course meet the requirements under “ECO-PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX®” for the manufacturing of certified products in accordance with “Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®.”

The process presented as part of the award is the combined VacuFil® Visco+ with VarioFil®. The given recycling technology is a thermo-mechanical recycling process optimized for the textile industry. Key component here is the liquid state polycondensation reactor, known as Visco+, to adjust the intrinsic viscosity. Compared to existing fiber recycling processes, which address rather less demanding textile applications and don’t include subsequent spinning, BBE’s solution is a whole-in-one process that enables the textile industry to perform closed-loop inline recycling of post-consumer PET fiber waste even into high-tech textile yarns with low dpf-values.

Cotton Merchant Reinhart Offers Organic Cotton Marked And Traceable Thanks To Haelixa

ZURICH — May 10, 2022 — Traceability is not only becoming a crucial product feature creating value for brands and manufacturers, but also for players right at the beginning of the supply chain: leading international cotton trader Reinhart offers now for the first time together with Alliance Ginneries traceable GOTS compliant cotton from Tanzania using the DNA-based traceability solution from Haelixa. The solution brings security and transparency to the spinning mill customers and their retail clients.

In this context it was important for Reinhart that the Haelixa marker is not only harmless for humans and the environment, but also GMO-free, OekoTex Standard 100 compliant and most importantly GOTS certified. Haelixa develops a unique marker for Reinhart that is then applied directly at the gin in Tanzania with the customized automated sprayer developed by Haelixa.

Spinning mills have from this week onwards the unique opportunity to buy this marked cotton from Reinhart. Traceability will be guaranteed through testing the final garment or any intermediate product to authenticate the marked organic cotton from Tanzania. A mill can buy the traceability package directly from Haelixa, which means a defined number of traceability tests will be done with the products in the Haelixa labs. Haelixa will ask the mill or the brand to send in samples to verify traceability. After each test a certificate is issued that confirms traceability of the product back to the region of Mwanza, Tanzania. Mills and brands also have the opportunity to use the “Marked & Traced by Haelixa” label to communicate the commitment to transparency through traceability to their customers.

Marco Bänninger, head trader at Reinhart, said: “Again and again we hear from our supply chain partners and especially from retailers that it is becoming more and more important to know exactly where the cotton comes from. Furthermore, they want to be sure that they are guaranteed to get the cotton for which they are paying a premium. Circular Economy: The Future Of The Textile Industry

Regeneration, along with a commitment towards limiting wasted resources by optimizing every phase of the production process; the circular economy model is now a global objective, included among the themes of fundamental importance in Agenda 2030 for sustainable development launched by the United Nations.

The core of the circular economy is the transformation of waste, beginning with prudently managing resources. Applying this paradigm to the textile sector signifies:

  • reducing waste management and disposal costs;
  • cutting down on the cost of materials;
  • limiting the use of non-renewable resources; and
  • consequently reducing environmental impact.

From a more general green economy outlook, the responses of people and businesses are increasingly important. Whereas upcycling in the textile sector is the new trend, there’s a need for an ongoing and concrete commitment by all players involved.

In 2018 the global fashion industry produced around 2.1 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions: that’s 4 percent of the overall total. Moreover, due to increasingly lower prices and revenue losses — caused by overstocks, stockouts and product returns — profit margins for major clothing retailers worldwide fell on average by 40 percent from 2016 to 2019. In 2020 this trend was further enhanced by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which highlighted the fragility of fashion supply chain and has seen the industry suffer a whopping 90-percent drop in profits since 2019 (as reported by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation).

In terms of environmental impact, according to the European Environment Agency (EEA) 87 percent of textile waste worldwide ends up in landfills or incinerated, with less than 1 percent being recycled. As such, the UN’s plan is a call to all businesses and manufacturers, who have already responded by adopting an increasingly virtuous path towards people and the planet, weaving a viable route for the future of the textile sector on a global scale.

The contribution of ACIMIT — the Association of Italian Textile Industry Machinery Manufacturers — is part of this virtuous solution, and is concretely materialized in the Green Label.
