Accel Unite’s Megan Eddings To Pitch Revolutionary Isolation Gown At Prestigious Competition

HOUSTON, Texas — November 10, 2022 — After winning the South Texas Region and the Semi-Finals Round, Accel Unite is thrilled to announce founder and CEO Megan Eddings will be participating in the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council’s WBENC Pitch competition in Washington next week.

Narrowed down from a first-round of more than 500 business owners, Megan was chosen as one of 47 to pitch in the semi-finals round and is one of 12 winners selected to pitch at the prestigious “Innovate with WBENC” event in the grand finale. This signature competition features a series of pitch competitions and educational sessions to help women business owners gain meaningful exposure, and compete for grants and other prizes to invest in their business.

Eddings will be pitching Accel Unite’s award-winning reusable isolation gowns, which are patent-pending in 153 countries.

“I am truly honored and humbled that I will be among this select group of inspiring and innovative women sharing our inventions,” Eddings said. “I could not be more proud of Accel Unite and what it represents. I am super pumped to share the financial, environmental, and health benefits of our reusable isolation gown with such a forward-looking audience.”

Born out of the need for reliable and sustainable PPE, Accel Unite spent more than a year developing a new design for a reusable isolation gown that is more affordable, increases safety against cross-contamination, and is less damaging to the environment. Instead of being thrown away, Accel Unite’s gowns can be washed at home or by a commercial launderer. Disposable options, on the other hand, burden supply chains, increase costs, and substantially contribute to the single-use plastic epidemic. Accel Unite does not rely on an overseas supply chain to manufacture its gowns and is therefore poised to become a highly competitive market leader.

WBENC is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping women-owned businesses thrive. With its world-class certification standard, WBENC validates that a business is at least 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by a woman or women. The certification is accepted by thousands of corporations, state and local governments, as well as the US Military.

The other finalists participating in the pitch event include:

  • Click & Carry Inc.;
  • FeaturesFirst Auto;

Indorama Ventures Reports Resilient YTD Earnings As Management Leverages Its Unique Global Model Amid Macroeconomic Challenges

BANGKOK, Thailand — November 10, 2022 — Indorama Ventures Public Co. Ltd, (IVL), a global sustainable chemical producer, today reported a resilient year-to-date performance as management leveraged the company’s unique global integrated model to drive earnings through a challenging macroeconomic environment.

IVL posted Core EBITDA of $606 million in 3Q22, a 39-percent increase YoY and a decline of 20 percent QoQ as the strong tailwinds that drove record earnings into 2022 began to normalize in the third quarter. Management have redoubled efforts through the year to mitigate the impact of unprecedented global economic fluctuations triggered by instability in Europe and continued lockdowns in China.

Strategic acquisitions, including Oxiteno, are bolstering IVL’s increasingly diverse geographic footprint and product portfolio, supporting earnings through volatile economic conditions. Revenue declined 10 percent QoQ in 3Q and grew 27 percent YoY as Combined PET, the largest business segment, saw steady volumes through the year, and new portfolio additions performed strongly, such as surfactants in the Integrated Oxides and Derivatives segment. With more than 70 percent of IVL’s platform catering to consumer daily necessities, demand remains stable.

D K Agarwal, CEO of Indorama Ventures, said, “We are pleased with our performance across the business cycle. Our management is working hard to extract the advantages that we enjoy in terms of geographic leadership, product diversity, and an unmatched customer base of global household brands. Together with our habitual lens on cost management, these actions will help us to weather the economic challenges and continue to focus on our long-term potential.”

Combined PET (CPET) segment achieved YTD Core EBITDA of $1,192 million, an increase of 42 percent YoY. Core EBITDA in 3Q22 rose 27 percent YoY to $327 million, and declined 24 percent QoQ, as business remained steady across operations apart from in Europe where peak energy prices continue to put pressure on demand and margins.

Integrated Oxides and Derivatives (IOD) segment posted YTD Core EBITDA of $604 million, a rise of 137 percent YoY, due to integration benefits from the Oxiteno acquisition in April and robust demand for surfactants products. The segment achieved 3Q Core EBITDA of $219 million, an increase of 82 percent YoY, and a decline of 16 percent QoQ as margins weakened in the Integrated Intermediates portfolio amid overcapacity and the ongoing pandemic lockdown in China.

Fibers segment posted YTD Core EBITDA of $189 million, a rise of 2 percent YoY. 3Q Core EBITDA increased 2 percent YoY, and decreased of 11 percent QoQ, to $49 million. The Lifestyle fibers business continues to be impacted by the lockdown in China, while management in the Hygiene and Mobility verticals in Europe are effectively managing high energy costs.

VTT Accelerates The Development Of Sustainable Soft Materials By 50 Percent Through Physics-Based Modeling And AI

ESPOO, Finland — November 10, 2022 — VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has expanded the application of its Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) toolbox ProperTune beyond hard materials like metals to now model and design soft materials like wood, polymers and plastics. This allows companies to cut down product development time by at least 50 percent, decrease cost elements of product development, reduce environmentally harmful materials and design entirely new materials that perform better.

This expanded use of ICME makes it fast and economically viable for the replacement of an increased number of unsustainable materials while providing improved material performance.

“Developing products virtually is happening now, it’s not science fiction anymore. Sourcing materials is becoming increasingly expensive or difficult. The battery industry, for instance, uses huge amounts of ground metals which will not be available indefinitely, and there is a burning need for bio-based alternatives to lithium. As products are improved and new ones are created for different industries, we need to make each resource count,” says Antti Puisto, Research Team Lead at VTT.

ProperTune is a collection of tools that combines multiscale physics-based modelling and AI with a data-driven approach to create microstructurally accurate materials and load in realistic conditions. ProperTune provides a highly in-depth analysis of the customer’s product and models how different environmental elements and stressors affect the product.

Working in a fully digital environment, finding more preferable — and better performing alternatives for undesirable ingredients — is dramatically faster compared to the traditional trial-and-error methodology. In addition, the durability along with other key performance parameters of the new material can also be verified in the virtual environment.

“By taking product development and testing into the virtual world, we are able to create better products faster and more cost-efficiently than ever before,” explained Puisto.

Bacteria is one of the most exciting prospects for soft materials as they are, essentially, an infinite source of materials.

“Paper cups have a barrier coating to help keep the liquid from immediately destroying the cup. Usually, this barrier is made of petrochemical polymers — a kind of plastic material. That could be replaced with sustainable alternative polymers produced by bacteria, cutting out a significant amount of fossil-based, unsustainable barrier material. The end result would be paper cups that are infinitely circular,” elaborates Puisto.

Virtual material analysis and development holds a lot of promise for the construction industry as well. Insulation materials in the walls of buildings are usually not made of sustainable materials. Instead, they tend to be made of petrochemical-based polymeric materials — plastics — or, in some cases, mineral wool. Both materials end up in landfills at the end of life.

“How do we create an alternative insulation material that doesn’t rot between the walls — but also disappears without leaving a trace or harming the environment after their life cycle is over? You’d need to design a material that lasts for 50 years but is also biodegradable. These are the kinds of inspiring challenges that we want to tackle”, says Puisto.

ProperTune has already been used by global leading companies, such as Caterpillar, Kone, and Wärtsilä, to improve the material performance of their products.

VTT is already working with customers looking for alternatives for their soft materials.

“We are already working with the first bleeding edge projects with customers to discover and develop alternatives for their soft materials. Overall, companies developing new, better materials — whatever their industry — are the trailblazers creating the world of the future,” Puisto concluded.

American Tent Introduces the Renegade Series: The World’s First Fully-Recyclable Tent

GREEN BAY, Wis.  — November 9, 2022 — Commercial tent manufacturer American Tent has introduced the Renegade Series, the first fully-recyclable tent at MATRA’s Tent Show, November 7-10 in Greenville, S.C. The Renegade Series features polypropylene-based fabrics that are an alternative to the PVC-coated fabrics that dominate the marketplace; they’re also fully-recyclable, low carbon, and lighter weight. The Renegade Series is ideal for corporations looking to meet sustainability initiatives and those that are committed to improving the health of our people and planet.

“Being in the rental business, we became familiar with the tent lifecycle. We use them  and then we throw them away because they can’t be upcycled,” said American Tent’s CEO Tony Ehrbar. “PVC has forever chemicals and PVC-coated fabrics can’t be recycled. We knew we had to come up with an alternative and step into our role as renegades to evolve our industry for the better.”

The Renegade Series’ tents are lighter weight than their counterparts and are more UV stable given the fact that they don’t use plasticizers, which leach out over time and remove UV protectants from the fabric. The fabrics used in this evolutionary series have withstood five years of intense heat in the Australian desert with no cracking or color fade.

The Renegade Series features a frame style tent with aluminum and steel structure. The fabric directly mimics the fabrics used in American Tent’s direct tenting applications, and is fully recyclable when cut from its metal clips. The Renegade Series will soon include fully-recyclable tarps, drop cloths, sidewall curtains, and other product line extensions that promise to make our world a more sustainable place, one yard of fabric at a time.

The Renegade Series decreases the amount of plastic dumped into landfills; its fabrics also serve as a safer alternative for people who stand in its midst. Renegade Plastics produces its polypropylene-based fabrics without heavy metals, dioxins, and phthalates, which are commonly used in manufacturing PVC fabrics.

American Tent will offer discounts on Renegade Series orders at the MATRA trade show, honoring the same price as its Atrium frame tent series.
