INDITEX Recognizes TVE ESCALE Among The Best Washing Technologies

ARTEIXO, Spain— April 24, 2023 — Inditex recognizes HYDRA, the semi-continuous process machine patented by TVE ESCALE, as the best option for high-performance textile pre-treatment and washing. HYDRA combines continuous line technology with discontinuous methodology. It combines various washing techniques such as vacuum, submerged suction, and counterflow to get the best results. All this autonomously and automatically.

Despite being semi-continuous, HYDRA offers the same performance as continuous processes. All this occupies less space and with a lower initial investment. The most important thing, as INDITEX points out, is its ability to save up to a total of 26 percent of water, 17 percent of electricity, and 23 percent of steam during the entire finishing process.

Another of its advantages is the capacity to process fabric rolls of up to 1,600 millimeters in diameter, which surpasses any discontinuous machine on the market. On the other hand, compared to continuous machines, HYDRA offers greater versatility, flexibility, and resource savings.

HYDRA will show up in hall 14 booth C103 at ITMA 2023 Milan, Italy.

SGS Upgrade To Softlines Laboratories Gains ZDHC Foundation Approval For Level 1, 2 And 3 MRSL V3.0 Certification

DÜSSELDORF, Germany — April 24, 2023 — SGS, a testing, inspection and certification company, is pleased to announce that the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation has approved six of its laboratories to operate as ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) certification bodies for conformance to Levels 1, 2 and 3 of MRSL v3.0.

The announcement follows the upgrade of six laboratories in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Chennai, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong. Significantly, it means SGS is now the only ZDHC Foundation recognized company operating in Taiwan, Chennai, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong approved to Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Yvonne Tse, Vice President, Global Softlines, SGS said: “The acceptance of our laboratories in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Chennai, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong for Level 3 conformance assessment and certification is part of a long-term strategy of expansion in our sustainability services capabilities for the fashion industry. This includes the future upgrading of other facilities and the provision of holistic solutions to help businesses to achieve their zero discharge goals.”

The ZDHC Foundation is an industry-led collaboration committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals from textile and footwear supply chains. The first MRSL was published in 2014, with its companion document, MRSL Conformance Guidance, issued in 2017. It provides brands and suppliers with a single, harmonized list of chemical substances that are banned from intentional use during manufacturing and related processes. In November 2022, V3.0 of the MRSL and V2.0 of the MRSL Conformance Guidance were released by the ZDHC Foundation. MRSL V3.1 was published in March 2023.

MRSL V3.0 conformance certification is a simple and effective way for manufacturers and brands to demonstrate their commitment to zero discharge in complex supply chains that often rely on multiple different chemical formulations. It responds to the increasing awareness amongst consumers and regulators of the negative impact the manufacture of textiles and footwear is having on the environment.

Safety At Heart: H.O.T. Evolutions Instructors Receive Donation Of Gear From Fire-Dex

MEDINA, Ohio — April 24, 2023 — Fire-Dex, an supplier of high-performance firefighting gear, is proud to announce the donation of protective garments to Hands-on Training (H.O.T.) Evolutions instructors at the 2023 FDIC International Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

H.O.T. Evolutions is a premier training program designed to help firefighters build the competencies required for the modern fireground. Fire-Dex’s annual donation enables instructors to comfortably train firefighters on essential skills and to stay protected head-to-toe during practical exercises.

Fire-Dex has supported the H.O.T. program since 2016, donating more than 400 sets of garments to instructors over seven years. For the 2023 FDIC conference, Fire-Dex is providing 32 sets of TECGEN51 Fatigues personalized with the H.O.T. Evolutions logo.

“TECGEN51 Fatigues provide our instructors with a great option in lightweight PPE,” said David Rhodes, education director for FDIC. “The heavy-duty, rugged, fatigue-style gear provides great protection and flexibility, reduces heat stress, and is very easy to pack and transport.”

Not Your Typical Gear

Fire-Dex TECGEN51 Fatigues are designed for calls that don’t require interior structural firefighting gear. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports over 1.3 million “fire” calls in 2021 as opposed to more than 35 million “non-fire” calls including EMS, false alarm, hazardous material and other emergency conditions. Wearing alternative PPE for non-fire calls can increase the service life of structural gear and lessen the risk of cross-contamination among crew members potentially exposed to carcinogens.

Dual-certified to NFPA 1951 (technical rescue) and 1977 (wildland firefighting), TECGEN51 Fatigues provide high levels of thermal protection and breathability to reduce physical strain and heat stress on the wearer. This combination of benefits allows H.O.T. instructors to leave their turnout gear at home when traveling to the FDIC conference.

Not Your Typical Training

H.O.T. Evolutions courses cover the latest technology and techniques in the fire service. More than a routine training event, the program is instructed by key industry players who bridge the gap between hands-on skills and those developed in the classroom. With Fire-Dex gear, H.O.T. instructors have found the right fit for helping participants become better firefighters.

“We have a long-standing history of partnering with FDIC International to support and protect the brave men and women in service around the world,” said Jenny Surovey, vice president of marketing for Fire-Dex. “The H.O.T. Evolutions group can rest assured that they have the best gear to safely and confidently lead their demonstrations.”

Fire-Dex is a team of fiercely passionate and driven professionals dedicated to creating the most advanced designs that achieve the highest standards of flame resistance, the most comfortable fit and the best value. At FDIC International, attendees can see the same gear that H.O.T. instructors use in the Fire-Dex booth (#1945).

Discuss The New Green Power With Monforts At ITMA 2023

MÖNCHENGLADBACH, Germany — April 24, 2023 — At ITMA 2023 in Milan from June 8-14 this year, Monforts is organizing two free-to-attend seminars and discussions on the potential of green hydrogen as a new energy source for textile finishing, drying and related processes.

The seminars will take place at the company’s stand B106 in Hall 18 on Friday June 9 at 11 a.m., and Monday June 12, also at 11 a.m., and all are welcome.

Monforts is currently leading a consortium of industrial partners and universities in the three-year WasserSTOFF project, launched in November 2022, that is exploring all aspects of this exciting and fast-rising new industrial energy option.

The target of the government-funded project is to establish to what extent hydrogen can be used in the future as an alternative heating source for textile finishing processes. This will first involve tests on laboratory equipment together with associated partners and the results will then be transferred to a tenter frame at the Monforts Advanced Technology Center (ATC).

“Everybody knows that textile finishing is a high energy consuming process,” said Monforts Managing Director Gunnar Meyer.”To make this process more efficient, Monforts already offers several solutions, but as a technology leader we are also rising to the challenge of exploring alternative heating options to be ready for the future.”

Purity

To be considered “green”, hydrogen must be produced using a zero-carbon process that is powered by renewable energy sources such as wind or solar. Currently, the cleanest method of hydrogen production is electrolysis, using an electrically-powered electrolyzer to separate water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The purity of the hydrogen is also important, and impurities must be removed via a separation process.

“Despite all its advantages, there are obstacles to overcome on the way to widespread, economically-feasible green hydrogen use,” explained Monforts Textile Technologies Engineer Jonas Beisel. “Until there are widely available, reliable and economical sources of this clean power, the cost of producing it will remain prohibitive. The infrastructure is not yet there, and hydrogen also has a tendency to make steel brittle and subject to fracture, which is something that requires further investigation in both its transportation and use in industrial processing.

“Green energy’s potential as a clean fuel source is tremendous, but there is much we need to explore when considering its use in the textile finishing processes carried out globally on our industry-leading Montex tenter dryers and other machines.”

At its Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Mönchengladbach, Monforts will be carrying out intensive tests and trials to assess the reliability of both processes and final products when different natural gas and hydrogen mixtures — up to 100 percent green hydrogen — are employed. The results will be closely analyzed by the consortium partners because there are many parameters that at this stage remain unknown.

The aim, Beisel added, is to both reduce CO2 emissions and — following the rising prices and industry turbulence experienced by manufacturers over the past year or so — to further reduce a dependency on natural gas.

The three-year WasserSTOFF project is sponsored by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and with Monforts at the helm brings together industrial partners Pleva and NTB Nova Textil, with academic input from the Hochschule Niederrhein and the Technical University of Freiberg.

Invitation

“Do come and visit us during ITMA, to discuss not just hydrogen, but all options for reducing the costs of energy, as well as water and finishing chemicals usage,” said Monforts marketing manager Nicole Croonenbroek. “The current focus of the industry is very much on cleaner processes to meet the commitments on sustainability made by the major fashion brands and we have developed many useful solutions for helping our customers meet new market demands since the last ITMA in 2019, which we’re looking forward to discussing with you.”

Results Of The 19th ITMF Global Textile Industry Survey: Business Situation Is Still Gloomy While Expectations Are Booming

ZURICH — April 19, 2023 — The global business situation in the textile industry has been negative since June 2022 and is still deteriorating (see Graph 1). Companies around the world and across all segments face a “perfect storm”-scenario with high production costs and relatively low demand. At the same time, companies’ expectation for the business climate in 6 months-time have been improving since November 2022. It is unclear if this growing optimism about the mid-term future is due to a believe that the situation cannot get much worse or anticipation for a well-founded economic normalization.

Order intake has also steadily decreased since November 2021, mostly in line with the trend in the business situation. The rate of decline has nevertheless slowed down in March 2023, likely due to weak demand. “Weakening demand” has indeed been rated the major concern in the global textile value chain since July 2022 and its importance has even grown in the last survey. Inflation remains the second major concern worldwide.

The expected improvements for the second half of 2023 are supported by a relatively low level of order cancellations and stabilizing inventory levels. 53 percent of respondents to the 19th GTIS recorded no order cancellations during the last 4 months (down from 58 percent last January). The phenomenon is stronger in South America and touches spinners and weavers relatively more. 58 percent of respondents also rated inventory levels as average. The number of companies reporting high inventory levels is greater in Asia and Europe. Among segments, it is the highest for home textile producers.
