IKME Space Filling Up Fast

The International Knitting Machinery Exhibition (IKME) 2003, to be held October 16-20 in Milan, has
already attracted more than 50 companies specializing in flat and circular knitting, washing,
drafting, packaging and finishing machinery; and accessories sectors.

Sponsored by Fiera Milano International S.p.A., Milan, IKME will have a strong international
presence. As of October 2002, more than 30 percent of exhibiting companies are from outside of
Italy, including companies from the United States, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Turkey,
China and Malaysia.

SPESA Expo 2004 Receives Endorsements

The Sewn Products Equipment & Suppliers of the Americas (SPESA) Expo 2004, to be held May
18-20, 2004, at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla., has received endorsements
from the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA), the Germany-based VDMA Garment
and Leather Association, and the China Sewing Machinery Association.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Burlington WorldWide’s Activewear Spring/Summer 2004 line includes five
collections, all featuring Nano-Dry™ moisture-management technology.

The M.C.S.® Blocker® collection of outdoor sportswear fabrics features new Super-Supplex®
top- and bottomweights, piece-dyed stripes, and new stretch plaids. The M.C.S. Blocker collection
and the Bio-Weave™ textured fabric collection both provide a 40+ ultra-violet protection factor.

AGX Opens Asian Subsidiary

AGX Corp., New York City, has opened its newest subsidiary, AGX Asia Pacific Ltd., in Seoul, Korea.
The company, which specializes in swimwear and intimate apparel, is the first US printed textile
converter to establish a presence in Asia.

Avery Dennison Completes Acquisition

Avery Dennison Corp., Pasadena, Calif., has completed the acquisitions of RVL Inc. and L&E
Packaging. RVL, Westlake Village, Calif., manufactures woven and printed labels, graphic tags and
specialty packaging products. L&E, Greensboro, N.C., specializes in offset, screen and
flexographic printing products for the apparel and retail industries, and is RVL’s key printing
partner.

The operations of the two companies will be consolidated into Avery Dennison’s global Retail
Information Services business, serving the apparel and retail industries. The expanded business is
expected to generate annual sales of more than $500 million.

Manufacturers Chemical Introduces EcoBrite

EcoBrite is the latest clay technology product to be introduced by Cleveland, Tenn.-based
Manufacturers Chemical L.P. This single-component auxiliary package is suitable for peroxide
bleaching of cotton and blends with peroxide. The company claims EcoBrite can replace optical
brighteners, organic stabilizers, lubricants, wetting agents and emulsifiers in most applications,
and eliminates the need to use an antifoaming agent. Machine cleaners also may be eliminated
because EcoBrite continuously helps clean equipment during processing.

Reggiani, Aprion, Ciba Launch DReAM Digital Printer

DReAM is a new digital textile printing machine developed by Reggiani Macchine S.p.A., Aprion
Digital Ltd. and Ciba Specialty Chemicals Inc. According to the companies, the printing machine is
the first high-speed digital textile printer – allowing 1.6-meter-wide, 600-dpi resolution prints
at speeds of up to 150 square meters per hour.

The machine combines Italy-based Reggiani’s substrate conveying system with Israel-based
Aprion’s multiple array graphic ink-jet color (MAGIC) drop-on-demand piezo six-color ink-jet print
heads.

Switzerland-based Ciba Specialty Chemicals created CIBACRON® RAC reactive inks especially for
the DReAM printer. Ciba claims the inks are suitable for cellulosic fabrics, will produce bright
shades and will perform well.

Other ink types are in development, including acid inks for silk and polyamide/Lycra® blends,
disperse inks for polyester and pigmented inks for various fibers for home furnishings
end-uses.DReAM has undergone various customer trials at the Reggiani facility in Italy. The
companies expect the machine to be available later this year.

Eagle Systems Realigns, Changes Name

Eagle Systems Corp., Atlanta, has changed its name to Eagle Performance Products. Reorganization
after the acquisitions of Textile Scientific Polymers and CFI warranted the name change. The
company will continue to manufacture its broad range of textile finishes and other chemicals
including fire retardants, coatings, textile finishes and fluoropolymers at its Calhoun, Ga.,
facility.

Cotton Incorporated Hosts Seventh Cottech Conference

Cary, N.C.-based Cotton Incorporated hosted the recent Cottech Conference in Raleigh, N.C. The
conference, entitled “From Field to Fashion: Partnerships for Innovation,” emphasized biotechnology
in cotton, quality aspects and new concepts in dyeing, and chemical and mechanical finishing, with
a global perception of market opportunities.
