Springfield To Distribute, Expand DuPont Protera™ Line

Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont has signed an agreement with Gaffney, S.C.-based Springfield LLC — a
manufacturer of uniforms, sportswear and outwear, as well as flame-resistant (FR) and protective
fabrics for military, government, and other applications — granting Springfield manufacturing and
distribution rights for DuPont’s Protera™ fabric in the United States and the Caribbean.
Springfield also will develop new fabrics to add to the Protera line.

Protera is an inherently FR fabric with built-in permanent thermal protection properties.
According to Springfield, apparel made with Protera is very comfortable and durable, and has better
lifecycle value than FR cotton/nylon apparel of a similar weight. The fabric was created to protect
industrial workers against electric arc hazards, and it meets National Fire Protection Association
Category 2 requirements.

“Springfield LLC FR textile business has had a long relationship with DuPont and with Protera
products and services,” said Ed Shogan, CEO, Springfield. “This transition will be seamless and add
to the success of an already successful brand.”

DuPont will continue to offer mills and end users technical and sales assistance for Protera
fabrics.

Exports Being Pushed By Industry And Government

U.S. government and textile industry trade officials are stepping up their efforts to promote
exports as one means to create job opportunities.

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called for a doubling of exports in
the next five years, which, he said, would create two million jobs. He warned that the United
States “cannot sit on the sidelines” as other nations expand their export initiatives and called on
U.S. manufacturers to “aggressively seek new markets.” He announced the formation of a National
Export Initiative, but did not cite any specific actions except that he called for strengthening
trade relations with Colombia, Panama and South Korea; and for continued support for the Doha Round
of trade liberalization negotiations.

In a speech later in the week, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said a “smart, aggressive,
progressive trade policy can be a critical part of our overall economic recovery program.” In
addition, Kimberly Glas, deputy assistant secretary of commerce for textiles and apparel, says she
is working on specific actions that will assist textile exporters.

While U.S. textile industry officials are supporting new initiatives to help increase
exports, they believe a lack of action on what they see as currency manipulation by foreign
nations, particularly China, and illegal trade subsidies and a chronic high level of  imports
cannot be offset by expansion of export markets. The textile and apparel trade deficit in the first
11 months of 2009 was running at $68.2 billion on the basis of imports of $82.7 billion and exports
of $14.5 billion.

However, the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) has undertaken some initiatives
to help with the financing of exports. It is working to have the Small Business Administration’s
(SBA’s) Export Working Capital Program expanded so more textile companies can participate. Under
that program, SBA provides loans to support export transactions. Those loans support working
capital at low fees during export payment cycles. The SBA program is targeted at small businesses
that are able to generate export sales but need additional working capital to support the sales.

NCTO also is working with the Export-Import Bank to find affordable and flexible financing
options for textile companies interested in exporting.

Rockline Regenerated Cotton Wipe Receives 2010 Visionary Award

Sheboygan, Wis.-based Rockline Industries Inc.’s regenerated cotton wipe received the 2010
Visionary Award, presented at the Vision 2010 Consumer Products Conference held last month in New
Orleans and organized by the Cary, N.C.-based Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry (INDA).
The annual Visionary Award recognizes innovative consumer end products that incorporate nonwoven
fabrics or use nonwoven technology during the manufacturing process.

The regenerated cotton wipe’s substrate is comprised of 100-percent biodegradable materials –
a 75-percent cotton/25-percent Lenzing Tencel® blend. The cotton comes from post-industrial waste
generated by T-shirt manufacturing, and according to Rockline, the recovery process used to
regenerate the cotton is energy- and water-efficient. The regenerated cotton wipe was one of five
finalists chosen from products nominated for the award.

“With such an emphasis being placed on sustainable products in all industries, including
nonwovens, the Vision conference attendees obviously were impressed by the green story of the
Rockline Regenerated Cotton Wipe,” said Rory Holmes, president, INDA. “There were five outstanding
products representing all aspects of consumer products from filtration to personal and household
care and they were all winners by being selected as finalists in the 2010 competition.

“The four other finalists were: Germany-based Henkel Corp.’s Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ laundry
sheets; Plain City, Ohio-based Advanced Cleaning Technologies LLC’s Ultimate Cloth®;
Cincinnati-based Proctor & Gamble Co.’s always® Infinity feminine hygiene pad; and Ingleside,
Ill.-based Superior Felt & Filtration LLC’s Fitseal™ disposable respirator mask.

Fruit Of The Loom Extends Waste Recycling Program With Martex Fiber

Bowling Green, Ky.-based apparel brand Fruit of the Loom reports it will extend its waste recycling
initiative with Spartanburg-based recycling company Martex Fiber Southern Corp. to ensure textiles
from its U.S. and Central American manufacturing waste streams are recycled into useable products.

Martex Fiber processes fabric waste to create raw fiber that can be used by nonwoven
producers, or for fill products. The company also spins recycled-content yarns using the reclaimed
fiber at its Jimtex Yarns Division in Lincolnton, Ga.

“While we probably could have received more for single items on our waste list, selling all
the waste to one vendor give us the ultimate control over what happens after it leaves our
factory,” said Ted Goolesby, Fruit of the Loom. “Martex Fiber has been a responsible partner of
ours for many years. We appreciate their efforts to explore new markets for textile waste, and
together, our efforts have led to many innovative materials. Some of these waste-based fibers
products have been used to insulate cars, fill mattresses or even go back into making new apparel
fabrics.”

“At Jimtex, we take waste from cut and sew operations, like Fruit of the Loom’s T-shirt and
underwear cuttings, and convert it back into a first quality cotton blend yarn,” said Jimmy
Jarrett, manager of the Fruit of the Loom waste contract, Martex Fiber. “The possibility for large
scale apparel producers to actually take their own waste and have it processed back into yarn and
then back into finished product is now a reality. It is very exciting!”

DSM, KNSB Introduce New Skinsuit For Olympic Short-Track Speed Skaters

Heerlen, NL, 27-Jan-2010 Royal DSM N.V. and the Royal Dutch Skating Association (KNSB) are
introducing an innovative skinsuit for the Dutch Olympic short-track team. The new suit will be
unveiled at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. In collaboration with the KNSB, DSM has
developed a lighter and, most importantly, more comfortable suit that offers maximum protection.
This innovation forms part of DSM’s ‘Innovation is our Sport™’ program, which focuses on working
with and for athletes to develop innovative products in the areas of nutrition and materials.

The new product’s secret weapon is the use of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. By
cleverly combining Dyneema® with other fibers, DSM’s team has created a new skinsuit comprising
just a single layer. The suit is lighter than existing skinsuits and its snugger fit makes it
exceptionally comfortable.

Thanks to the use of Dyneema®, the suit feels cool and allows body heat to escape more
effectively than suits made from other protective materials. The skaters will benefit enormously
from this, since temperatures can reach very high levels in indoor skating rinks. That will
certainly be true in the crowded venues for the races at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,
where the Dutch short-track skaters will be appearing in their new skinsuits.

Short-track skater Annita van Doorn says of her new racing suit : “The suit feels cooler than
other suits. That is a definite advantage in a warmer environment such as we will encounter in
Vancouver. It will also be nice to feel well protected with just a single suit, rather than having
to wear several layers as before.”

“Through its close cooperation with the KNSB and its unique know-how and expertise in
materials, DSM has come up trumps again, this time with a fantastic innovation for the short-track
skaters. DSM is helping various Dutch Olympic teams in their preparations for the Winter Games in
Vancouver,” says Rob van Leen, DSM’s Chief Innovation Officer.

As Partner in Sport of NOC*NSF, DSM develops new nutritional products and materials to help
the members of the Dutch Olympic Team to perform to the peak of their ability. During the Winter
Olympics in Vancouver, TeamNL’s bobsled team will be competing in a brand-new bobsled composed of
materials from DSM. In the run-up to the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, one of the products
developed by DSM was a new boat in which the sailors Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout won a
silver medal in the 470 class.

DSM and sports

Sport is about performing at a top level, day in, day out. It is about passion, ambition, the
will to win, the constant desire to improve and teamwork. In that respect, sport embodies a number
of DSM’s core values. Innovation is one of the main spearheads of DSM’s strategic course, which
involves a focus on Life Sciences and Materials Sciences, and it is equally important in the world
of sports: innovations in the fields of nutrition and materials can mean the difference between
victory and defeat. DSM has been a ‘Partner in Sport’ to NOC*NSF since 2001, producing innovations
that help top athletes: Innovation is our Sport™.
