Greensboro, N.C.-based textured yarn manufacturer Unifi Inc. announces its REPREVE® products have
earned Responsible Source™ certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) Global
Services, Emeryville, Calif.

Unifi is the first yarn manufacturer to be certified to the Responsible Source standard,
which addresses supply chain and manufacturing issues in the textile sector related to the
production of undyed recycled chips, pellets and manufactured fibers. The certification combines
elements from International Labour Organization conventions, International Organization for
Standardization standards and guidelines, U.S. federal regulations and existing SCS standards.
Manufacturers that screen suppliers for compliance with local environmental regulations, enforce
fair labor and workplace practices and account for human health and environmental life cycle
impacts may be certified to the standard.

. The company monitors its energy and water consumption,
water discharges, air emissions and hazardous waste disposal; employs traceability mechanisms; and
maintains strong relationships with its vendors and suppliers. The Responsible Source certification
process involved evaluation of Unifi’s environmental performance in eight main impact categories.
The company also established a framework for screening suppliers to assess risk throughout its
supply chain.

“Responsible Source certification gives apparel and textile companies confidence that
Repreve polyester inputs are both environmentally and socially responsible, providing a new level
of transparency about raw material inputs for recycled products,” said Stowe Hartridge-Beam,
managing director of Environmental Certification Services, SCS.

“This certification is important to Unifi, as it further shows our commitment in providing
our customers with quality, transparent and responsibly manufactured Repreve-based products,” said

Marzoli Commits To Green Innovation Project

Italy-based Marzoli S.p.A., a manufacturer of complete spinning lines, reports it has committed to
Marzoli Green Innovation — a continuous process undertaken by the company’s research and
development department to monitor and analyze mechanical, electrical and electronic, and
technological aspects of its production process to protect the environment.

Marzoli has received the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT)
Green Label the past three years. The label is a document that identifies the energy use and
environmental performance of textile machines. It standardizes evaluation parameters for easy
recognition, comprehension and comparison purposes. Companies must comply with ACIMIT’s
“Sustainable Technologies” project and meet stringent compliance standards defined by ACIMIT in
order to participate in the labeling program.

Marzoli’s FT6/FT7 roving frame, which holds a Green Label certificate, has been modified and
improved by the company as part of its ongoing Green Innovation project. The company reports it has
been able to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions per kilogram of material processed on the roving
frame, as well as increase energy savings by using deep groove ball bearings with RSL low friction
seals on both sides. According to the company, these bearings – which are lubricated for a lifetime
– provide increased precision and reduced noise, seal better and offer a longer working life. The
bearings also reduce friction, which can reduce vibration and increase power savings by at least 5
percent on a machine featuring between 700 and 900 ball bearings.

82nd IWTO Congress Focus From Farm To Fashion

MILANO, Italy — May 30, 2013 — “FROM FARM TO FASHION. The wool supply chain and the consumer” is
the title of the Forum that IWTO, the International Wool Textile Organisation, is organising in
collaboration with The Woolmark Company, on Friday 14 June in Biella. Open to the press and wool
industry stakeholders, is it an opportunity to discuss relevant industry topics. The forum is part
of the 82nd International Congress of the IWTO, the annual meeting of the global wool system, which
in 2013 will be held in Biella from 12 to 14 June.

The Forum “FROM FARM TO FASHION. The wool supply chain and the consumer” will see debate on
the future of wool, the raw material, and the reorganisation methods that the supply chain, from
sheep to distribution, will have to adapt to in order to fully exploit new opportunities offered by
today’s scenario. This meeting aims to analyse which initiatives and which projects may be able to
establish a relationship between the tangible production chain (manufacturing) and the intangible
one (services) in other words, marketing, communication and distribution. In this new context,
where product value and significance are becoming increasingly more “intangible”, wool is the best
candidate for this type of analysis, as it is the paradigmatic summary of the challenges facing
so-called traditional producers. Now is the time to make the most of the manufacturing core
competences and to expand horizons towards those intangible functions that are decisive in
involving the consumer in a “wool experience”. The latter allows the knowledge of the material to
be translated into involvement and passion (commitment) for a raw material that forms an
extraordinary link between tradition and innovation. This Forum will therefore take an in-depth
look at the creation of product value, tangible and intangible value, namely of that set of
meanings that guide the consumer towards purchase. The concept of the Forum “FROM FARM TO FASHION.
The wool supply chain and the consumer” has been devised by Diomedea Area Studi.

The main content of the Forum will develop issues of interest for the wool supply chain and
industry, promoted worldwide by The Woolmark Company. These include, in particular, analysis of
fibre marketing and ingredient branding initiatives in the fashion and luxury sectors, a global
trend that concerns all operators along the supply chain, from farmer to retailer, called on to put
new dynamics and cooperation strategies in place to improve global market performance.

The discussion will be chaired by Antonio di Bella and will see the participation of a large
number of speakers, invited by The Woolmark Company and IWTO to have a dialogue on the themes
covered. Speakers at the Forum will include: Giuseppe Angiolini, President of the Italian Chamber
of Fashion Buyers and Owner of SUGAR, Alberto Baldan, CEO of La Rinascente, Ennio Capasa, Creative
Director of Costume National, Nino Cerruti, President of the Lanificio F.lli Cerruti, Domenico De
Masi, Sociologist, Pier Luigi Loro Piana, President and CEO of the Loro Piana Group, Raffaello
Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine, Stuart McCullough, CEO of The Woolmark Company, Andrea Panconesi,
CEO of Luisa Via Roma S.p.A., Franca Sozzani, Director of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue and Paolo
Zegna, President of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group.

The Rupp Report: Texprocess – The Ideal Roundup

Techtextil, the International Trade Fair for the Technical Textiles and Nonwovens Industries, to be
held June 11-13, 2013, will run parallel with Texprocess at the Messe Frankfurt fairground in
Frankfurt am Main. For the second time, Texprocess, the International Trade Fair for Processing
Textiles and Flexible Materials, will take place June 10-13, 2013. Some 330 exhibitors are expected
to participate.

Texprocess is organized by Messe Frankfurt together with its conceptual partner, the German
Engineering Federation (VDMA) Garment and Leather Technology Association. One may say that
Texprocess is the successor of the former IMB trade fair in Cologne. Exhibitors from all over the
world will present solutions for the apparel industry and textile processing, including design,
pattern making and cutting, sewing and joining, embroidery, textile dressing, finishing,
information technology, and logistics.

It Makes Sense

In spite of a very tight time schedule—- interested parties have to visit two shows in a very
short time — the combination of both events makes a lot of sense: The ever-so-successful segment of
industrial textile applications is the only sector of this industry in which all involved process
steps upstream and downstream must relate to one another. Therefore, Techtextil exhibitors will
present the tools for producing the fabric and accessories, and Texprocess will show the downstream
tools for the end products. Of course, visitors may use their admission ticket to enter both
Techtextil and Texprocess.

Sustainability

As the organizers write:

“For the fashion industry too sustainability is more than just a buzzword. Ever since
the 1990s the entire textile industry, everyone from machine manufacturers to companies producing
fibrers, fabrics and garments, has been implementing resource saving processes.

“The main two factors for the industry are the consumption of water and energy. Textile
manufacturing has already implemented technologies that take account of both the requirement to
save and recycle resources and the change in the market to smaller production lots and accelerated
development processes.”

And Europe is supporting these efforts. As Messe Frankfurt reports:

“SESEC (Sustainable Energy Saving for the European Clothing Industry) is an ongoing EU
project with the aim of developing a simple on-line tool to measure energy consumption per article
of clothing. Additionally the project will continue to communicate outcomes and support companies
in the implementation of energy saving measures. The EU covers 75 percent of the budget of around
Euro 1.7 million.”

A New Success Story

Michael Jänecke, brand director of Techtextil, is quite happy with the development of this
year’s event
(See ”
The Rupp
Report: Techtextil 2013 — The Confirmation of Success
,”
TextileWorld.com, May 7, 2013)
. How is it with Elgar Straub, managing
director of VDMA’s Garment and Leather Technology Association? Are his feelings for Texprocess as
good as those the organizers of Techtextil?

Rupp Report: Are you happy so far with the development of the forthcoming
Texprocess?

Elgar Straub: Yes, very much so. The first edition of Texprocess was already very
good, and the second one will be even better.

RR: What are the reasons for your good mood?

Straub: Well, we have a higher international degree of exhibitors, and we’ll have
probably many more visitors.

RR: How many exhibitors have already signed up to participate?

Straub: Some 320 per today: The final number will be available at the opening of
the event.

RR: Are there any exhibitors that have a booth at both Texprocess and
Techtextil?

Straub: Yes, but not many. For me, this is an indication that the exhibitors of
both shows have adapted to the concept of a double event perfectly well.

RR: Which halls are occupied by the Texprocess exhibitors?

Straub: These are halls 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0.

RR: Is Texprocess sold out?

Straub: Almost — all halls are very well booked.

RR: Techtextil will have a considerable number of country pavilions. What about
Texprocess?

Straub: There are some countries — for example China, Croatia and Bulgaria. In
general, collective booths in leading international exhibitions today are not as much in demand as
they used to be. The exhibitors prefer to have their own booths and individual presentations.

RR: This is the second edition of Texprocess. How satisfied are you with the
recent development since this sector left IMB in Cologne?

Straub: I am very happy so far. It shows that we were able to place the concept in
the markets outstandingly well. Prior to the second edition, we recognize that Texprocess and
Techtextil taking place in tandem are globally accepted by the exhibitors and visitors as the
leading international technology exhibitions.

RR: Don’t you feel Techtextil is a competitive event?

Straub: No way — why? It is an outstanding endorsement.

RR: Have you ever regretted the move from Cologne to Frankfurt?

Straub
: No, at no time ever.

RR: Is there anything that should be improved for Texprocess?

Straub: You know, there is always something to improve and to do better. Our main
task is to help our industrial sector return to the strength it had before. This means we have to
further adapt the exhibition according to market developments.

RR: Final question: How do you describe the cooperation with Messe Frankfurt?

Straub: Excellent!

will be present in Frankfurt am Main. Come by Hall 4.1, Booth FOY18, and have a chat.
