Radici Yarn Recognized For 20 Years Of Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Certification

BERGAMO, Italy — June 22, 2016 — Radici Yarn S.p.A. — a RadiciGroup company and leading European manufacturer of a vast range of nylon yarn and staple fiber for apparel, technical and industrial applications — is among the 33 companies in the fashion textiles sector that have received an award for being certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 for 20 years. The award ceremony was held June 21, at MUDEC in Milan.

Following last year’s event at the MA*GA Museum, during which Noyfil S.p.A. and Noyfil SA — RadiciGroup company leaders in the production of polyester yarn headed by CEO Oscar Novali — were recognized for being certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for 20 years, at this year’s Oeko-Tex award ceremony organized by the Varese Chamber of Commerce, Radici Yarn S.p.A. was one of the honorees. The Bergamo-based RadiciGroup company — founded in 1974 and today engaged in the manufacture of nylon yarn and staple fiber — was among the 33 firms who received an award yesterday for 20 years of certification to Oeko Tex Standard 100, currently the world’s most well known and highly regarded voluntary eco-friendly label for textile products.

“This is an important recognition for our company,” Oscar Novali, CEO of Radici Yarn SpA, commented. “It’s an award that testifies to our commitment to monitor the safety of our products constantly using a scientific method. Observing the requirements of Oeko-Tex® means that we offer the maximum guarantee to the final user; it means that we can relate to our customers and the market in a transparent manner and guarantee accurate and reliable information on the products we supply. And this is clearly an added value that our company offers the market.

Among the attendees of the award ceremony at the Museum of Culture in Milan was Filippo Bona, R&D manager of Radici Yarn. “Our customers’ attention to environmental certification, particularly concerning consumer health, has increased greatly in the last few years, as has the interest of all operators in the apparel textiles production and supply chain.”

“The speed of change in textile safety issues requires us to be continuously updated,” Mr. Bona continued. “It is essential that we carefully analyse every new development. For this reason, we interface directly with the various trade associations, research institutions, certification bodies and everyone who is directly involved in our production chain in order to constantly improve the environmental performance and safety of our products. The performance must be scientifically measurable and comparable: only in this way can we be truly reliable.”

United States Industrial Fabrics Institute Endorses The Trans-Pacific Partnership

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — June 21, 2016 — The United States Industrial Fabrics Institute (USIFI), a division of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI), announced its formal support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement Tuesday. TPP was signed in February by the United States and eleven other countries and awaits congressional approval.

The decision to endorse TPP came after an in-depth review of the finalized text and a determination that USIFI’s key objectives were met under the terms of the agreement. These objectives included securing:

  • A strong yarn-forward rule of origin for the vast majority of textile and apparel products;
    Reasonable, multi-year tariff phase-outs for sensitive industrial textile products;
  • Preservation of the Berry and Kissell Amendments, U.S. government procurement laws mandating domestic preferences for national security purposes; and
  • Provisions that allow for effective customs enforcement cooperation among the TPP parties and other standard textile chapter terms included in U.S. free trade agreements.

“The U.S. textile industry can compete globally under trade rules that are reasonable and fair. We extend our thanks to USTR Ambassador Michael Froman and the U.S. textile negotiating team for their strong consideration of our input and analysis regarding provisions important to U.S. industrial textile manufacturers,” said Ted Anderson, USIFI Board Chairman and CEO of BondCote Corporation.

“While every agreement includes tradeoffs, we recognize that the overall outcome on TPP is balanced and reflects core textile industry objectives. As a result, based on the text as drafted and agreed to by the TPP nations, we endorse this agreement,” Anderson added.

USIFI is a coalition of domestic U.S. fiber, fabric and end-product manufacturers which serves member company interests in both domestic and international affairs. USIFI is a division of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI), which represents more than 1,500 members in the specialty textile industry worldwide.

Baldor Electric Company’s Fort Smith Employees Achieve Arkansas State Safety Record

FORT SMITH, Ark. — June 21, 2016 — On May 10, 2016, the Baldor employees of the Fort Smith motor plant completed 15 million hours without a lost-time accident. They have been working toward this achievement since August 26, 2010.

During a recognition ceremony held June 16 on the Fort Smith campus, Leon Jones Jr., director of the Arkansas Department of Labor, presented a plaque to a member of the Safety Committee and congratulated all of the employees. He noted that this plant was the first group of employees in Arkansas history to achieve this milestone. He added, “The best thing we can do today is to get everyone home safely.”

A crowd of nearly 500 employees gathered under a large tent to hear from company management as well as state representatives, congressmen and senators. Each talked about the difference these employees are making for themselves, their coworkers and their families. “You are more important than you know to someone in your life,” said Pat Hart, Division Head of Health and Safety for the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission. “You take your body with you wherever you go.”

Johnny McKusker, Fort Smith plant manager, closed the event by saying, “Hitting 15 million hours – there’s got to be a lot of luck in doing that. But, we are trying to take ‘luck’ out of the equation by incorporating proactive measures. Talking about the things we ‘always do and never do,’ using SafeStart to change habits and behaviors and analyzing root causes are tools we are all using. But we continue to need your help every day to identify the risks that are still out there.”

Baldor has been producing industrial electric motors in Fort Smith since 1957, and today, the company produces 1.2 million, 1-20 horsepower motors at this campus each year. Baldor became a member of the ABB Group in 2011.

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — June 21, 2016 — A new expanded Damping Grease Sample Kit is now available from Nye Lubricants Inc. The kit features medium-viscosity greases from the Fluorocarbon Gel 868 and NyoGel® 774 series of products that were designed to control motion and vibration, maintain accurate positioning, smooth operation, and provide touch feedback for a broad array of mechanisms and controls. These greases exhibit stable, water-resistant, shear thinning characteristics over a range of viscosities.

Nye damping greases operate over a wide temperature range, exhibit low oil separation and evaporation, provide lubrication and protection and are compatible with most plastics and elastomers. The NyoGel 774 Series is thickened by silica, and exhibits low color, high clarity, and medium tack. The greases resist displacement from plastic or metal surfaces. Included in this kit is the newly formulated 774H5 designed to fill a viscosity gap in the series. The Fluorocarbon Gel 868 series is composed of opaque, white products formulated with rust inhibitors and PTFE particles, which can improve lubricity.

Nye has over 70 products, based on different material classes, which solve problems and optimize performance in motion control applications. Some of the grease formulations are modifications of the hydrocarbon-based products in this kit, designed to enhance performance under specific conditions. Others include silicone-based and fully fluorinated gels, as well as specialty fluids. In addition, Nye can custom-formulate a product for your application.
