Improved SDL Atlas PnuBurst Offers Elastic Fabric Testing

ROCK HILL, S.C. — August 2, 2016 — SDL Atlas is excited to introduce the next generation PnuBurst Burst Strength Tester. The new design comes with improved touch screen controls to make test selection and initiation much quicker and easier. The instrument also features clamp pressure control through the touch screen to facilitate the requirements of certain tests such as those required for Marks & Spencer suppliers. Laser measurement provides precise bursting distension heights.

The improved PnuBurst also offers the new capability of testing elastic fabrics.

The new, optional ElastiTest Software gives users the ability to perform a cyclic test on elastic textile samples. Simulating repeated stretching action provides users with information on how a fabric maintains its strength and recovery after being stretched in three dimensions.

The software allows the technician to set up a test routine by specifying if they want to maintain either inflation pressure or distension height as constant. The other attribute will then become the variable which shows how the sample performs. The cycle can be designed to inflate at a certain rate, hold the maximum point for a period of time, and then deflate at a determined rate. This test provides a much better real world analysis of an elastic fabric in use than the straight stretch tests performed on a tensile tester.

All of the previous notable features of the PnuBurst still exist in the enhanced model including:

  • Automatic Flow Control — to ensure the burst happens in the required window of time as prescribed by the selected standard.
  • Automatic Diaphragm Correction — to subtract the pressure it takes to inflate the bare diaphragm from test results to achieve real bursting strength measurements.
  • Automatic Bell and Ring Detection — the controller will read the bell and clamping ring sizes and ensure they match.
  •  Results Analysis — Full analysis of multi-sample test results including each sample and mean and standard deviation.

The improved PnuBurst is currently available world-wide.

PANTONE Launches STUDIO, A Digital Workspace For Designers To Find, Capture And Experiment With Endless Color

CARLSTADT, N.J. — August 2, 2016 —Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company, today announced the launch of PANTONE Studio, a new iOS app for iPhone, and the brand’s largest foray into digital solutions for the creative industries.

As digital tools continue to transform the creative process and content consumption is ever evolving — Pantone has created a comprehensive, connected digital workspace for designers to experience its entire product and service offering. Intuitively designed by full-service digital agency Rokkan with the designer in mind, PANTONE Studio provides greater convenience in capturing Pantone color, building and testing that color in palettes, and sharing work directly into design software, on social media, or with friends, clients, and collaborators.

“Fifty-three years ago, Pantone was introduced as a standardized language to communicate specific colors in the print market,” said SVP and General Manager, Ron Potesky. “Today, Pantone has become iconic and indispensable as the de facto language of color across design disciplines, as well as a source of color intelligence and inspiration. Recognizing the needs of designers today, we created PANTONE Studio to provide a place where they can explore, capture, create and share color inspiration with friends and colleagues.”

Translating Color For The Digital Age

PANTONE Studio members will have access to a comprehensive library of more than 10,000 standardized hues across all Pantone libraries and disciplines, from fashion to graphics.

To translate the familiar process of searching through colors in a physical PANTONE fan deck into an instinctive digital user experience, each PANTONE Guide is visually laid out in a chromatically organized grid that allows members to continuously scroll over color families to find the perfect hue.

New colors released by Pantone will be automatically updated in the digital studio.

Color Values and References: Color data (sRGB, Hex and CMYK values) and harmonies are displayed for each color, as is the visual cross-reference of that color across Pantone libraries, including PANTONE PLUS Series (Graphics/Ink), Fashion, Home + Interiors (Cotton Textiles and Pigment) and PANTONE Plastics.

Color Palettes: Palette creation brings color to life in PANTONE Studio. Members can build palettes consisting of up to five colors, selecting from color guides, extracting color from photos and images, searching by color number, and interacting with the custom palettes delivered by Pantone Color Institute™ (PCI). Additionally, designers can:

  • Name palettes and geotag locations;
  • Add tags that make palettes searchable;
  • Add inspirational images to serve as a personal mood board;
  • Store and manage an unlimited collection of palettes; and
  • Send palettes to Adobe Creative Cloud from within the app.

Within the Studio members can apply colors against different template designs including graphics, interiors, and typography. As an experimental feature, designers can also visualize PANTONE Colors on pliable 3D papers and fabrics.

Inspiration And Trend Information

A fundamental element to the human experience, color is the visual cue that creates a connection to the environment. PANTONE Studio enables members to capture inspiration in Pantone’s language and immediately start working with it.

Capturing Inspiration from the World Around You: Inspirational images – from Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or a designer’s camera roll – become a designer’s palette in PANTONE Studio. Creating a palette at the point of inspiration is also simplified by the app’s camera and adjustable color picker, which pinpoints a specific set of PANTONE Colors from any image uploaded into the app.

Crowdsourcing Inspiration with ColourLovers: For designers looking to other artists for inspiration, PANTONE Studio is linked to the ColourLovers community. Members can scroll through designs organized by PANTONE Color and select palettes for use.

Trend Information from Pantone Color InstituteTM: PANTONE Studio brings PCI’s insights to designers through a convenient feed of content rich in color insight and imagery. PCI provides color trend forecasting, brand color development and product palette development information.

Regular content includes articles focused on the emotions, meanings, psychology and context behind particular colors. These articles will span of-the-moment topics, such as colors associated with influencers and trending topics in the design world.

PCI also delivers curated and contextual insights into PANTONE Colors, combinations and harmonies to PANTONE Studio members, ready to reference as inspiration or work into designs.

Sharing Color Socially

With an easy-to-use interface, sharing work on social media, sending ideas to clients or discussing color concepts with collaborators via email is easier than ever.

PANTONE Studio also provides a variety of formats for sharing colors and palettes, including incorporating the iconic Pantone chip as a solid and transparent overlay. Each shared color carries the Pantone name and number, ensuring that those who love the color will know which one to use.

Membership Plan And Availability

PANTONE Studio is now available for iOS download via the App Store and to existing users of the myPantone app.

For those wishing to explore the language of Pantone and share color socially, a basic version of PANTONE Studio is available as a free download, with the option to unlock total access to all Pantone tools and color intelligence through a subscription available via in-app purchase.

Subscriptions to access all Pantone colors, tools, and features are based on flexible annual pricing at $4.99/month ($59.99 billed upfront) or as a $7.99/monthly subscription.

PANTONE Studio subscribers will receive automatic feature updates, which will be rolling out over the next few months. Additionally, Pantone will introduce an enhanced iOS version for iPad, as well as Android, Windows and MAC OS Desktop versions.

Promotional pricing is available for existing myPantone app users.

METYX Composites Doubles Production Site In Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey — July 22, 2016 — METYX Composites, a division of textiles company Telateks A.S., is in the process of doubling its production facilities at its main manufacturing centre in Manisa, Turkey. Land and buildings adjacent to the existing factory in the Manisa Industrial Zone became available earlier this year, which Telateks recently acquired. The existing factory is being linked to the newly acquired site, which combined provides a total of 2.3 hectares (23,000 sq. m) of production and warehousing space. The expanded site is almost twice the size of the current factory, providing METYX with the space to not only double weaving capacity for glass and carbon fibre multiaxial fabrics, but to also add more tooling and kitting capacity.

The new site is planned to be fully operational later this year, with additional staff being recruited. The expanded METYX factory will include additional new production lines for both glass and carbon fibre multiaxial fabrics and new CNC machining centres for composite plug and mould making. To meet increasing demand, especially from the wind energy sector locally, the existing kitting services at Manisa are also being further expanded; at both Manisa and the METYX Composites factory in Hungary a full kitting service is provided, supplying customers with ‘make to order’ kits for core material, glass and carbon fibre reinforcements and vacuum consumables, not only for wind energy, but also for marine, automotive, and other industrial applications.

Additional new warehousing facilities are also being constructed at Manisa to further improve stock holding and distribution services from the main production site, which serves customers nationally across Turkey, and also supplies a growing number of METYX Composites export customers.

“We have seen rapid growth in the Wind Industry in the Aegean Region since 2011 and our local factory and capacity has grown to meet the needs of our customers.  We also see new developments regionally in other key composites sectors, which are expected to further fuel our growth in the region, where METYX has become a key supplier.” stated Bahattin Şendoğan, Marketing and Sales Manager, METYX Composites.

This latest investment in the expansion of METYX Composites is part of an ongoing five-year programme of key strategic investments in high-end production facilities for technical textiles and composites-related products made by Telateks since 2011, when construction of the original factory in Manisa started. Much has been achieved since then, with more planned for the future. Ugur Üstünel, managing partner of METYX Composites explained: “When the Manisa factory started production in 2012, we already had in mind a desire to expand the site further when the market timing was right. We think that this new investment decision to expand our Manisa site has been taken at the right time, and will enable us to better support the growing needs of our customers. Looking to the immediate future and longer term, we will be doubling production capacity by 2018, and look forward in the coming years to working closely with all of our existing customers, as well as new customers in the Aegean region.”

Cocona® 37.5® And Point6 Announce Partnership For New Line Of Advanced Wool Socks

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Aug 2, 2016 — Point6 and Cocona® announced today an exclusive partnership for wool socks powered by 37.5® technology. Merino wool is one of the top performance fabrics in the outdoor industry, so combining wool with 37.5 nylon creates a higher level of performance sock that delays the onset of sweat, dries faster, increases comfort, and helps control odor.

“Wool is Mother Nature’s miracle fiber, thanks to moisture, temperature, and odor controlling properties,” says Peter Duke, Point6 CEO. “Bringing 37.5 technology fiber into the mix elevates wool’s benefits to a whole new level.”

Managing the microclimate next to the foot extends the user’s comfort range and improves cooling. An in-depth study conducted by the Department of Physiology at the University of Colorado, Boulder reported that by changing from a wicking shirt to a 37.5 shirt athletes extended their performance and reduced their core temperature build up. This same technology can now be found in socks.

The team at Point6 worked with scientists from Cocona to perfect the combination of 37.5 particles with nylon. By layering the 37.5 nylon between 100% compact spun New Zealand Merino wool, Point6 can make a sock that maintains a comfortable level of humidity by delaying the onset of sweat and drying faster, even during high-intensity exercise.

“Peter Duke has had a long and successful history as an innovator with merino wool, so it was exciting to partner with Point 6 on this development,” said Jeff Bowman, CEO of Cocona Inc. “The product they’ve created is fantastic; 37.5 fibers pair very well with natural fibers, turbocharging the inherent properties of merino.”

The active particles in patented 37.5 fiber are permanently embedded in the nylon fabric of the socks and won’t wash out. These active particles provide 800% more surface area to the fiber, while providing a unique driving force to remove moisture vapor unlike any other technology. The particles, naturally derived from coconut shells and volcanic sand, capture heat from the body’s infrared energy to speed evaporation and significantly reduce dry-time.

“Adding 37.5 technology to our socks makes Point6 a far superior product to all other wool socks,” says Duke. “Period!”

Point6 will introduce nine styles powered by 37.5 technology for Spring 2017, plus several tactical styles that are being developed for the military.

INVISTA Introduces The Next Generation Of LYCRA® Sport Technology At Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

WILMINGTON, Del. — August 1, 2016 —  INVISTA, owner of the LYCRA® brand, and one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers, will begin the roll-out of the next generation of Lycra SPORT technology at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, August 3-6, 2016.

This “next generation” Lycra Sport technology is scientifically engineered to deliver exceptional comfort, fit and support to stretch activewear. The new platform combines the proven stretch technology of Lycra fiber with demanding testing standards that measure fabric performance descriptors on a simplified 1-10 scale of three indexes:

  • The Power Index measures the compression delivered by the garment’s fabric.  The higher the power index, the greater the shaping or compression effect.
  • The Comfort Index relates to the insight that consumers often complain about being uncomfortable in compression or shaping garments. The higher the comfort index, the more comfort the wearer experiences.
  • The innovative new Energy Index rates the energy exerted by the body due to fabric construction. The lower the energy index, the lower the effort needed to move the fabric, making it ideal for competitive sports activities. This advanced fabric property will be a new point of differentiation for performance fabrics.

The overall index approach to Lycra SPORT technology covers the broad spectrum of fabrics, helping to assure comfort from soft control, yoga-type applications to high compression applications such as running and cycling. Lycra Sport technology can also be combined with other Lycra brand technologies, like Lycra BLACK technology, to offer additional performance benefits for enhanced consumer value.

“Increasingly, athletes and active consumers desire sport-specific garments designed to help optimize their athletic performance but with a high degree of comfort; Lycra Sport technology makes it easier than ever for mills, brands and retailers to meet these specific consumer needs,” said Huw Williams, Invista global segment director, activewear and outdoor. “Our proprietary indexes help designers to easily describe performance levels that are tailored to fit the garment’s end use and satisfy the wearer’s need for comfort with performance.”

The new Lycra Sport platform also offers mills a simplified fabric certification process, enabling clients to access hang tags and other promotional materials. Lycra brand hangtags are designed to drive sales by clearly communicating fabric benefits and the quality assurance the Lycra brand name offers consumers.
