MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — December 14, 2021 — Renfro Brands celebrates its 100th anniversary and shares vision for continued growth. Founded in 1921 as Renfro Hosiery Mills, the company started as a small domestic manufacturer. A century later, Renfro has grown into a global leader in the legwear industry with over 1,500 employees globally. This year has been an important one for the company as it announced new ownership by the private holding company, The Renco Group Inc., which followed the launch of Renfro’s direct-to-consumer marketplace Loops & Wales and corporate rebranding.

As Renfro charts its next phase of growth, the company is focused on making a positive impact on the world. Renfro has long rallied behind its belief that “a life well-lived, is lived in socks” and understands that while it starts with great socks, its impact goes further than that. Through its new corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, Project Footprint, Renfro has set out to foster better employment opportunities for more people, to continue to give back to the communities where it works, and to take every effort to preserve a healthy planet for a healthy future.

“We are extremely proud of where we are today as a company, and that is thanks to our employees, partners, and communities who have supported and trusted us over the past 100-years,” said Stan Jewell, CEO of Renfro Brands. “Project Footprint is not only our way of growing what our founders started but continuing our commitment to living our vision of helping people get back on their feet to achieve a life well-lived.”

As part of Project Footprint, Renfro has committed to achieving specific goals for each pillar of its program — Our Communities, Our Planet, and Our People — and will expand these with new actions and efforts annually. Among the objectives set to date, Renfro has committed to achieving the following by 2025:

  • Renfro will increase the number of BIPOC employees at the manager level by over 20 percent to ensure leaders reflect the consumers it serves.
  • Renfro will launch an annual sock capsule on its direct-to-consumer platform Loops & Wales, where 100 percent of proceeds are donated to an organization helping people get back on their feet.
  • Renfro will use sustainable yarns and materials in at least half of the products it produces, increasing this to 100 percent by 2030.

Additionally, starting in 2022, Renfro aims to donate over $1 million in employee hours to nonprofits by providing time for eligible employees to live its values and volunteer with organizations with roots in local communities. Renfro will continue to progress and evolve Project Footprint to both grow its impact and address new needs as they emerge.

Recycled Down is Here to Stay — Demand Increases

MASON, Ohio — December 14, 2021 — Downlite Outdoor has been selected as a trusted partner for recycled down jacket collections for leading brands such as Patagonia, Ralph Lauren, and Banana Republic. Collections are being released for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

As momentum builds globally for more sustainable options, Downlite has worked to expand its supply network of reclaimed down beyond Europe, thereby increasing the availability of this high-quality traceable fill. Recycled down is reclaimed primarily from pillows and comforters and then reprocessed and cleaned to a high-quality form, with fill powers ranging from 550 to 750. Downlite has expanded Its presence in Asia for recycling down, to not only increase volume potential, but to also reduce the carbon footprint — how far it needs to be shipped — to reach garment factories.

Patagonia has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of sustainability, increasing consumer awareness and acceptance, and working toward a more sustainable future. Downlite Outdoor has been a Patagonia preferred supplier for a decade and continues to work closely with the brand to expand recycled down styles, doubling the offering from 2017 to now. Downlite’s 600 Fill Power recycled down is featured in styles such as the Womens-down-with-it-parka.

Ralph Lauren, a long-term partner with Downlite Outdoor, has also made an enormous commitment to recycled down for Fall 22. Moving out of polyester fill and into recycled down speaks volumes to Ralph Lauren’s commitment to the environment, and to naturally biodegradable, compostable fills for their jackets. Ralph Lauren is also using all USA-Sourced Recycled down in the 2022 Olympic Closing Ceremonies Jackets – a first in the Outdoor industry.

“Because of the limited recycled down networks in the USA, there really has never been an opportunity to supply 100-percent USA recycled down on a scalable level, until Ralph Lauren. It’s an incredibly scarce resource — kudos to Ralph Lauren for putting a stake in the ground and seeing it through, 100 percent from the USA,” says Lindsay Parrish, vice president of sales, Downlite Outdoor.

In a brief time, Banana Republic has shown true dedication to its Recycled Down program. Committing to Downlite in 2020, their program has grown by more than 1,500 percent for Fall ’21. Their styles are not only luxurious in design, but sustainable in nature … and the numbers speak for themselves: many Mens’ and Womens’ styles are already sold out, before the holiday season is even fully underway.

These companies select Downlite Outdoor for its transparent and responsible leadership in sustainability and quality materials and service.

Automated Process From Schwing Technologies Facilitates Loading And Unloading Of Large Components

NEUKIRCHEN-VLUYN, Germany — December 8, 2021 — To increase the service life of large dies and metal components, the plastics industry is increasingly relying on safe and efficient cleaning systems from Schwing Technologies. Even bulky components such as blown film die heads, filter bundles or large pelletizing disks can be cleaned gently with vacuum pyrolysis. To ensure that heavy and complex dies in particular can be loaded even more precisely into the respective cleaning system, Schwing’s development engineers have now automated the loading process of their systems. In response to customer requests, the manufacturer is now equipping the series of large VACUCLEAN vacuum pyrolysis front-loading systems with electrically controlled loading tables and pallets.

Advantages for users

“With this new system functionality, we have responded to needs from the market,” explained Virgilio Perez Guembe, sales manager at Schwing. “Advantages are that users can now load and unload very heavy parts automatically. Automation protects expensive tools and equipment. In addition, less space is required, for example for maneuvering areas for forklifts. Last but not least, the operator-friendly loading and unloading process also reduces the workload on employees.”

Convenient loading and unloading

During the loading process, the die part to be cleaned is positioned on the loading table by crane or forklift truck. At the push of a button, the electrically driven loading pallet can then be moved forward or backwards. A user-friendly pendant control ensures convenient loading and unloading of the parts, which can weigh over twelve tons. The automated loading table is designed for large and complex machine parts up to ø 1.60 m and 12,500 kg.

Picanol Group To Build New Head Office In Ieper

IEPER, Belgium — December 7, 2021 — Picanol Group today announced the construction of a new head office in its hometown of Ieper, Belgium. The new building will house 450 employees and it will be erected on the company’s current site, between its training center and the Zuiderring road. The architectural design of the new headquarters — which will be shaped like a weaving shuttle — reflects Picanol’s rich weaving machine manufacturing history. The building is a design by AAVO Architects and will have a floor area of 20,000 square meters, including a parking garage and a basement area of 7,500 square meters. With this project, Picanol Group is ensuring the sustainable anchoring of the group in Ieper.

Growth in recent years has meant that Picanol Group has struggled for some time with the lack of space at its current premises. With this in mind, a project was initiated to house some staff of Picanol and PsiControl (part of Picanol Group), as well as all group functions, in a single new office building. This new head office will consist of two floors, containing spacious reception areas for visitors, meeting rooms, an auditorium, and offices. The two oval-shaped upper floors will house offices, meeting rooms, a company cafeteria, and a roof terrace. Meanwhile, car and bicycle traffic will access the head office via a planned entrance/exit on the Zuiderring.

Sustainability focus

The building’s interior architecture is open and transparent with the aim of promoting collaboration between the company’s departments. Furthermore, the building will use the latest technology and materials to make it as sustainable and energy-friendly as possible. This will include the use of geothermal and solar energy. There will also be a green roof area and the building’s surroundings will be laid out according to the latest soft nature management insights.

Construction work in Ieper is planned to start in the second quarter of 2022. The work will take up to 2 years to complete, with the new head office scheduled to open in 2024.
