HanesBrands And The University Of Michigan Announce Extension Of Long-Term Apparel Partnership

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — August 25, 2022 — HanesBrands (HBI) and the University of Michigan today announced a multiyear extension of their current apparel partnership that gives HBI exclusive rights to design, manufacture and distribute Wolverine fanwear in the mass retail channel. HBI is the world’s largest supplier of collegiate fan apparel and has been an exclusive apparel partner with Michigan for more than a decade.

The University of Michigan joins Clemson, Auburn, Penn State, NC State and more than two dozen other elite schools that have exclusive mass channel retail partnerships with HBI.

“Michigan is a powerhouse in every way, on the field and in the classroom, and has one of the largest alumni networks in the world,” said John Fryer, HanesBrands president of Licensed Sports Apparel. “As consumer-driven leaders in the apparel industry, our Champion® and Hanes® brands drive purchase across the retail spectrum. We’re proud to leverage these brands and others in our long-term commitment to provide quality, responsibly made fanwear to Wolverine students, alums and fans.”

HBI also continues as a preferred supplier with the M Den, the official retailer of the University of Michigan Athletic Department and one of colleges’ most renowned campus stores — and where Champion apparel has been a go-to for the Wolverine faithful for decades. In addition, the Champion brand will continue to engage with student athletes through name, image and likeness (NIL) agreements as it did with University of Michigan track and field standout Ziyah Holman earlier this year. Holman was part of a distinguished group of female athletic standouts featured in the brand’s “Get It Girl” campaign.

The partnership extension with HanesBrands follows a detailed analysis of the University of Michigan trademark licensing program and a competitive proposal process completed in conjunction with the university’s exclusive licensing agent, CLC. In addition to these exclusive programs, Michigan will continue its partnership with Nike as the provider of performance products and specific fan merchandise.

“As we head toward opening kickoff of football season, there’s a lot of momentum for Wolverine apparel following the team’s outstanding performance last year — winning the Big Ten title and finishing the year ranked No. 3,” Fryer said. “We expect to see a lot of Champion apparel in maize and blue.”

Epson Introduces The SD-10 Spectrophotometer Color Measuring Device

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — August 25, 2022 — Underscoring its commitment to print quality, Epson America today announced the Epson SD-10, the first Epson-built spectrophotometer. Designed to give SureColor® wide-format customers a tool to accurately measure color, the SD-10 is an easy-to-use and full-featured color measuring device. The SD-10 is a compact, battery-powered device that can be used stand-alone via the built-in LCD display or wirelessly connected to a smartphone through the mobile app to make critical color decisions on-the-go. Allowing users to elevate their color with a simple color management tool, the SD-10 is ideal for print shops, designers and salespeople to capture, reproduce and confirm colors with confidence.

“Many existing color workflows are labor intensive and communicating color can be arbitrary and subjective,” said Eric Holm, Professional Imaging, Epson America Inc. “Well received by both textile and signage users for its simplicity to measure and communicate accurate color, the Epson SD-10 allows an entire team to speak the same color language, from the salesperson to the designer to the print department.”

Measuring colors accurately, consistently, and quickly, the SD-10 is easy-to-use, easy to carry, and its embedded battery allows for measurements to be taken virtually anywhere, anytime. The SD-10 features market-leading technology, including industry-standard measurement modes (M0, M1e, M2) and Epson’s advanced micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology, used to construct devices with sub-micron precision. Accuracy on textured surfaces is achieved via a large 7.6 mm aperture and 360-degree LED illumination reduces shadows and irregularities to increase accuracy of color measurements. A built-in LCD display makes standalone operation possible, allowing for quick viewing of a measured color’s L*a*b* value. Additionally, the last two colors are always being compared and the delta-E value is displayed.

The Epson Spectrometer mobile app1 allows users to wirelessly connect to mobile devices where they can build custom color libraries, find similar PANTONE® colors and compare measured colors. The app can be used to see where a color stands in comparison to your printer’s ICC profile. Additional features include:

  • Wireless Bluetooth connectivity – Connect to a mobile device or computer using Bluetooth Low Energy technology;
  • Large aperture for textured surfaces – 7.6 mm aperture measures up to 1.5 times the area covered by similar products, allowing for greater accuracy;
  • Integration with Epson Edge® Print software – Directly measure and replace colors within the print workflow; connect via Bluetooth or USB; and
  • Build color libraries – Use the mobile app to create color palettes, find similar PANTONE colors and record measurements.

Availability

The SD-10 spectrophotometer is now available through Epson Authorized Professional Imaging Resellers for $899 (MSRP).

Textile Executives Highlight Importance Of Industry & Urge Support Of Policies Bolstering U.S. Competitiveness At Roundtable With Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC)

WASHINGTON — August 25, 2022 — Textile executives spanning the fiber, yarn, fabric, and finished product textile industries participated in a roundtable discussion with Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) today. During the roundtable executives showcased the industry’s innovation, advances in sustainable practices and its important contribution to the North Carolina and the U.S. economy, while raising several priority issues in Washington that have far-reaching implications for North Carolina and the entire U.S. textile industry.

The roundtable discussion, hosted by the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), was held at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

North Carolina is the second largest state employer of textile-related jobs with more than 36,000 workers, and those jobs play a vital role in supporting 108,000 additional jobs throughout the state. The state’s $2.7 billion in textile-related exports leads the nation.

During the roundtable, executives outlined critical policies, such as the importance of maintaining the yarn forward rules of origin in the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) and other trade agreements, advancing the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill and its importance to domestic manufacturers, upholding buy American and Berry Amendment government procurement policies, ensuring the administration is implementing the “Make PPE in America Act” as intended, and the need to address larger systemic trade issues, particularly the use of forced labor, with China.

Congressman Murphy’s visit is critical and comes at a pivotal time for the U.S. textile supply chain, which produced $65.2 billion in output in 2021 and employed nearly 535,000 workers. The industry has been at the forefront of domestic manufacturing of over 1 billion personal protective equipment (PPE) items during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“North Carolina’s textile industry is a huge driver for our economy, directly employing nearly 40,000 workers and generating over $2.7 billion in textile-related exports,” said Rep. Murphy, M.D. “I was grateful to hear from so many outstanding industry leaders during our roundtable today, and I am confident that we have the tools needed to bolster this great industry in our state. As the proud representative for North Carolina on the Ways and Means Committee, it’s an honor to work alongside NCTO to promote American jobs, grow our state economy, and protect domestic manufacturing.”

NCTO President and CEO Kim Glas said: “We sincerely appreciate Rep. Murphy’s participation in today’s industry roundtable, where he heard directly from textile executives with operations in North Carolina about opportunities and challenges confronting the industry. North Carolina has a vibrant textile industry, which employs technologically advanced and highly innovative operations, to produce a vast array of products, including high-tech components for everything from heart valves and stents to aircraft bodies and advanced body armor for our warfighters to critical PPE for the government and private sector. The importance of the U.S. textile industry to the U.S. economy and job growth cannot be overstated. That is why it is imperative that we have sound trade and government procurement policies that not only supports domestic production but also bolster our integrated coproduction chain with our Western Hemisphere trading partners. We look forward to continuing to work with Congressman Murphy on policies that: spur investment in North Carolina, the United States and the entire hemisphere; support strong government procurement policies centered around American-made products; and lead to strong enforcement of illegal trade practices that continue to give China and other countries backdoor to the U.S. market.”
