Focusing On A Sustainable Future: Avient Joins As bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER For Dope-Dyeing Fiber Colorants

TAOYUAN, China — June 13, 2023 — Today, Avient Corp. is delighted to announce that its production site in Taoyuan is among the first providers of dope-dyeing solutions in the world to be a bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER. Avient first highlighted this new certification this past week during ITMA 2023, the world’s largest annual international textile and garment technology exhibition in Milan, Italy, emphasizing its continuous efforts to help customers reduce their environmental impact and focus on a more sustainable future.

Utilized by more than 800 companies worldwide covering brands, textile manufacturers, and chemical suppliers, the bluesign SYSTEM features a holistic approach to responsible and more sustainable textile manufacturing. This approach is based on Input Stream Management, which strives to reduce the environmental impact on people and the planet, promote responsible use of resources, and support a high level of consumer safety. The Input Stream Management confirms that bluesign approved chemical products and raw materials are used in all steps of the manufacturing process.

As a bluesign SYSTEM PARTNER, Avient’s dope-dyeing (also known as spin-dyeing) solution is acknowledged as a more ecoconscious alternative to dye fibers or yarns. Traditional wet or bath-dyeing methods typically use substantial amounts of water and energy to heat a mixture of water and chemicals to dye the yarn. With dope-dyeing, the colorant is in the form of concentrate pellets added to the polymer pellets during the extrusion and melting process. The plastic mass is then shaped into filaments, spun, and texturized into an already-dyed yarn. No water is involved, and no wastewater is created, reducing the number of steps and, as a result, the amount of energy needed to add color.

“The market is changing faster than ever before, with an increasing demand for quality and sustainability from manufacturers within the textile industry. Providing safe and sustainable products that downstream customers want is crucial,” said Say-Eng Lee, vice president and general manager, Color & Additives Asia. “Joining the bluesign SYSTEM helps Avient improve the sustainability performance of customer products and minimize negative impacts on people and the environment while working with a certified network within the industry.”

Avient’s Taoyuan site supports customers in Greater China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia with fiber colorant and additive solutions for apparel, home, and industrial textiles.

SquadLocker Unveils New Apparel Designs For On-Demand Custom Sublimated Uniform Line

WARWICK, R.I. — June 13, 2023 — Known for empowering teams, leagues, and organizations with its single-unit decoration and custom apparel fulfillment model, SquadLocker continues to expand its sublimated apparel offerings.

Sublimation involves infusing the entire design of the jersey into the fabric directly. This process has become increasingly popular for team gear and apparel because the designs, logos, and personalization do not fade, crack, or wear. Sublimation also offers infinite design possibilities, so teams do not have to worry about the availability of blank stock items.

Earlier this year SquadLocker announced its line of on-demand custom sublimated uniforms (SquadGEAR™) with unprecedented speed. SquadGEAR uniforms ship directly to players in just 3-5 days. The initial launch has been well received by customers, “We are delighted to see so many of our customers adopting SquadGEAR. In these short months, our sales of sublimated uniforms have grown 2.4X year over year,” said Gary Goldberg, SquadLocker president and founder.

And while the initial launch focused on the manufacturing technology and delivery promise this next phase has been expanding offerings by sport. Goldberg continued: “Our primary focus was delivering a high-quality product that would ship in 3-5 days, all season long. Since launch our energy has been directed at expanding SquadGEAR to new sports, freshening designs, styles, and offerings.”

SquadLocker now offers sublimated custom uniforms for Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, and Basketball. These fashionable, functional, and competitively priced uniforms are an excellent way for teams to showcase their personality.

“Fort Collins Baseball Club, a nonprofit since 1961 that serves over 2,500 players each year, moved to SquadGEAR for our Intermediate Baseball League (22 teams) in 2023 — we’ve been very pleased with the jerseys. The quality of the material and the sharpness of the decoration are both excellent … . We plan to continue using SquadGEAR for our youth baseball teams,” said Thad Anderson, executive director of Fort Collins Baseball Club.

“Most parents are receiving their uniforms within 5 days of placing their order. The actual SquadGEAR is of just as good of quality if not better than the previous gear we used. They were able to match our previous uniforms, hats, and logos perfectly. We just recently introduced a new color scheme, and they were able to perfect it and use it in all of our gear orders. I look forward to continuing our relationship for a very long time,” said David Rider, 13U head coach and pitching coach of the Reno Mustangs.

Mimaki Launches Tiger600-1800TS Dye Sublimation Printer To Boost Adoption Of Digital Textile Printing

MILAN — June 13, 2023 — Mimaki Europe — a provider of industrial inkjet printers, cutting plotters, and 3D printers — is debuting the new Tiger600-1800TS, Mimaki’s most productive sublimation transfer printer, on its stand (H7-C304) at ITMA 2023. This latest high-speed, compact and robust roll-to-roll inkjet printer has been designed to accelerate the analogue to digital transformation within the textile printing industry.

The Tiger600-1800TS boasts a maximum printing speed of 550 square meters per hour — 43-percent faster than the previous model — owing to the renovated high-speed printhead and Mimaki’s proprietary image quality enhancement technologies. The printer’s size has also been halved compared to the previous system, with the paper mounting and winding system both located at the back of the machine. This smaller footprint enables customers to easily install multiple units to meet fluctuating demand, whilst also increasing overall production capacity.

“All of these latest and innovative developments ideally position the Tiger600-1800TS to compete with analogue textile operations and support the move to digital print production,” explained Arjen Evertse, general manager sales, Mimaki Europe. “The benefits of digital printing are wide-ranging compared to lengthy, complicated and unsustainable analogue production methods. Digital printing offers a seamless, cost-effective solution for producing smaller quantities that can be adjusted to fit varying demand. It also enables greater design flexibility and reduces environmental impact by enabling local production, minimal inventories and therefore, wasted products, as well as completely cutting out the wastewater that results from the analogue process.”

A further environmental benefit of the Tiger600-1800TS will be the imminent bluesign® (1) certification of its MLSb510 series sublimation transfer inks. This certificate, expected to be awarded in June 2023, will provide assurance that these inks are of highest quality combined with due consideration for the safety of consumers and print operators, and environmental conservation, and therefore, contributing to the sustainability of the textile industry.

Mimaki’s renowned expertise in developing reliable, easy-to-use and efficient solutions has also not faltered in the development of the Tiger600-1800TS. The printer’s ink tanks can be replaced without interrupting the printing process, minimizing down time. Maintenance of the printer is also reduced with its roller paper feeding method eliminating the need for the application of adhesives onto a belt.

“The Tiger600-1800TS captures the needs of our customers and prospects perfectly with all of its advanced engineering and practical, user-friendly features. We’re confident this new addition to the Mimaki portfolio will further promote the shift to digital textile printing, thereby supporting this inspiring industry to be quicker to adapt to changing production requirements, whilst also being more environmentally conscious,” Arjen concludes.

Texworld Evolution Paris: “Après Vous”, The Autumn-Winter 2024-2025 Trend Book

PARIS — June 13, 2023 — “Après vous”, the trend book for the Autumn-Winter 2024-2025 season presented at Porte de Versailles, Paris, celebrates “the world after”, but also a certain French savoir-vivre, a source of creation for textiles and fashion. To be discovered and experienced from July 3 to 5 at Texworld Evolution Paris.

A source of inspiration for the 2024-2025 collections

Following in the footsteps of Premier Sens, Texworld Evolution Paris Art Directors Louis Gérin and Gregory Lamaud continue to explore creative spaces where the real and its landmarks are transcended by the virtual. Après Vous expresses the uncertainty of a world out of breath, shaken by the profound questioning of social codes and identities.

In this uncertain but fertile ferment, creative proposals are born from “reassemblies”, recombining influences that supplant and erase styles. Color reclaims its rightful place, in a combination of materials where noble, natural fibers, raw, crumpled aspects, archaic yet sophisticated, are expressed first and foremost, in a spirit of “déjà wear”. The four themes that structure this new trend book, based on the analysis of emerging signals detected in the creative, artistic, economic and societal fields, explore all these areas.

  • In Memoriam — This theme evokes traces. Those that the living leaves on earth – « Mutant ruins. Outgrowths of our cultures […] visible for those who know how to read the remains as one knows how to read between the lines » – mixed with the ultimate protections used by humans to escape extinction. The creative paths suggested exalt raw materials, protective leathers, mantillas, encapsulated materials supported by mauve or fuchsia harmonies, but whose rendering remains mineral with a matte, powdery appearance.
  • In vitro — It’s about the “world after”, when life, long kept at bay, reclaims its rights : « It tries, experiments, […] as it has always done […] It is a firework display. » Without going into exuberance, the worlds depicted here reflect the reassembling of nature and synthesis. The materials are sophisticated – snakeskin and outgrowth effects, for example – but the fiber often remains visible. The universe of colors is extensive, but always suggests the living, the fruit or the flower in a subtle, elegant assemblage.
  • Mori — Don’t forget you’re mortal! Once again, this theme emphasizes the memory of the abundance of a bygone world. It expresses the memory of lust, the pleasure of over-consumption and its effects: plastic, pollution, waste. «Humans have devoured the planet, but the ruins are beautiful: what we used to call waste has taken advantage of our demise to express all its beauty. » This is the theme where the color range is the most extravagant, showy and sharp, without being vulgar. The palette ranges from orange to “veiny” blue, with nospecific hue. Materials are crumpled, sandy or plasticized. Knits are loose-fitting.
  • Ad Vitam — This is undoubtedly the most “mature” of the 4 proposals, and the one that most directly symbolizes the symbiosis between the natural and the digital. Here, in an animistic vision, the manifestations of life (hatching, decomposition…) and the beating of the digital universe (the machine, data…) merge. ” The world is patient and remembers us, violent…”. This theme finds expression in plant materials, earthy materials and “noble” fibers with raw aspects. The colors also reflect the resurgence of life, with pastel hues reminiscent of autumn fruits and vegetables, forests and grains.

All these themes will be presented in the Trends Forum. Visitors will be able to discover samples of materials and finished products of the exhibiting companies and selected by the Art Directors to illustrate each of these creative universes. Texworld Evolution Paris is an invitation to explore materials and finished products at the crossroads of Apparel Sourcing and Texworld. Leatherworld is a platform dedicated to the leather industry while Texworld Demin is the spot for the Denim offer. Avantex gathers forward thinking solution providers and services around the major topics for the industry.

The Composites Industry Meets At JEC Forum Italy

PARIS  — June 13, 2023 — JEC Forum Italy has been launched by JEC in collaboration with Assocompositi with an important goal: to support a dynamic composites community, fostering meetings between domestic buyers and suppliers and initiating new contacts even beyond the Italian borders. In addition to the professional meetings, JEC and Assocompositi developed a unique program combining technical conferences and business presentations, the Startup Booster competition, and a visit by a major composites company to the region on June 8.

Making connections

Pre-selected suppliers and buyers were able to arrange during the two days both structured professional meetings through the platform provided by JEC and networking opportunities during side activities. Lunches, coffee breaks and, above all, the refined evening event at Palazzo Re Enzo — a real jewel of Bologna’s historical heritage — provided opportunities to perfect interpersonal relationships and combine business activities with good local food, spritzes and outdoor chats. All these opportunities were fully taken advantage of by the participants: in fact, during the two-day event, the 400 participants were able to organize more than 1,000 professional meetings, as well as many more informal gatherings. Prominent companies from the composites industry and different application fields were among the participants: Bucci Composites, Ducati Motor, ENEA, Esercito, Falk Porsche Technik, Ferrari, Ferretti Group, Fiat-Stellantis, Fincantieri, Forvia, GS4C, HP Composites, IMCD Italia, Italdesign Giugiaro, Lamborghini, Leonardo, Maserati, MC Works, Permare, Perpedes, Proma, Pininfarina, Rassini Europe, Scuderia Alpha Tauri, Selle Royal Group (…)

High-level conferences program

Automotive, Aerospace, and Construction were three of the main thematic areas highlighted in the conference program developed by Assocompositi, with Innovation and Sustainability as the leitmotif of each session. About 20 industry experts discussed the use and benefits of composites in the specific fields of application and how to implement processes and create value with sustainability in mind.

Assocompositi President Prof. Roberto Frassine told us, “We are very proud to have been able to contribute to the success of this event together with our privileged partner JEC. We believe that the content we brought through our conference program matched the impeccable organization of JEC, and together we offered a new opportunity for the Italian composites industry to meet at a high level and discuss technical developments and new market strategies.”

Italian entrepreneurial spirit

Acquiring and promoting innovation is JEC’s primary ambition. The prestigious JEC Composites Startup Booster competition had for the first time an all-Italian edition precisely to highlight the country’s innovative projects in the field of composites. Five finalists were invited to present their projects in front of industry experts and practitioners: Graphene-XT, Hikari, MAch3D, Recarbon and SphereCube.

RECARBON was designated the winner, for giving new value to carbon fibre waste by creating, producing and offering innovative ready-to-use intermediate products based on recycled carbon fiber.

In conclusion …

This first edition of the Italy Forum, inspired by two successful editions of the JEC Forums in the DACH region in 2021 and 2022, brought together key players in the composites industry in a very dynamic spirit, demonstrating the commitment of Italian players to develop their markets and hinting at a bright future for the Italian composites community.

Anne-Carole Barbarin, JEC Regional Events Director and Director of the JEC Forum Italy, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled with the outstanding success of JEC Forum Italy. It was a remarkable platform that brought together key players in the Italian composites industry, facilitating fruitful networking opportunities. The passion and dedication displayed by all participants exemplify the inspiring spirit of the Italian composites community.”

MAS Holdings Becomes The First Material Digitization Services Partner Globally To Be Accredited By Vizoo

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — June 13, 2023 — Sri Lankan Apparel giant MAS Holdings implemented a high-tech digital material service hub which can be leveraged by brands as well as vendors who require digitization closer to the source.

Digital Product Creation (DPC) is on a growth momentum in the apparel industry. With the boost from the pandemic era to move to a more agile and efficient product creation process, brands and supply chain partners are building capabilities to drive end to end digital sampling. With DPC, brands can enjoy dramatically faster time to market, positively influencing product newness and profitability. Such value is only created with true to life digital twins that can represent the physical garment both visually and technically. Digital materials play a crucial role in demonstrating the accurate textures, colors and properties of the materials that eventually influence the look and fit of the garment.

“Material Digitization is a key focus area in our Digital Product Creation journey and Vizoo’s technology enables us to achieve a realistic appearance in our materials second to none. This certification assures our processes to digitize materials are aligned to the highest industrial standards, strengthening confidence in the quality of our process amongst the brands we service.” said Tharindu Meemaduma, Director Innovation at MAS holdings.

With increasing demand for digital materials, MAS established a dedicated material digitization unit in 2020 to provide high quality property and texture scanning services across its apparel and supply chain divisions. The unit has now been accredited by Vizoo, recognizing the standards and quality of MAS’ material digitization process. With years of expertise in DPC, MAS now has the capability to build digital twins across multiple stages of sampling such as concept, prototypes, color, and salesman samples. Their mission is to enable as many digital decisions as possible and build in expertise in digital to physical translation to achieve a first time right physical product at every stage of sampling. Leveraging this capability, MAS develops over 3,000 unique digital styles annually.

“Digital Product Creation is a part of our future proofing strategy, and we are constantly improving our skill set and process to enhance the value created through digital twins. This means identifying and investing in adjacent capabilities that would help us get there faster. The material digitization center is one such area, where we saw the opportunity to strengthen our goal of end-to-end Digital Product Creation by offering world-class material digitization services under one roof “said Anupama Fernando, Group Lead DPC.

With years of expertise in fabric digitization technology, Vizoo has been a strategic partner to MAS, working together to build a world class digitization unit. Today, Scan Hub is equipped with Vizoo’s xTex™ material scanners and xTex™ software, measurement devices for physical parameters for Browzwear and Clo 3D along with other quality control devices.

Renate Eder, CCO of Vizoo stated that “We hear a lot from brands that their vendors would not invest in digital. However, I must say that I do not share this view. MAS is one of the examples where digital solutions are adopted not just on request. In this case, digitization is influenced and driven by the vendor partner.”

From Renate’s prior experience with Adidas and 6 years at Vizoo, Renate is aware that it is not only about using the correct tools. Unfortunately, sometimes the discussion is too focused about the tool being the problem solver instead of thinking how to best implement innovative technology. However, the skillset of the users combined with efficient processes is what results in high-quality services.

The growing demand for digitization services has quickly put many service providers on the market, with varying quality. With a universal certification program, Vizoo is influencing the industry with global standards for digitization.

With more brands and vendors working in 3D, Vizoo saw the need to create a certification program for digital material creation. “We need reliability when multiple parties are involved in the digital product creation process” stresses Renate Eder, CCO of Vizoo. “Users must be able to trust on digital assets being able to benefit from them.”

“The certification program by Vizoo is a comprehensive and practical approach in validating the quality and standards of the digitization process. With all the necessary knowledge and guidelines from Vizoo along with our decades of know-how in physical product and material development, we have been able to incorporate best practices to provide a superior digitization service across our 50 plus brands” stated Hasini Weerasinghe, Senior Associate Digital Evangelist.

Vizoo is looking to expand its certification program towards more service and scanning hubs to support the Digitization- as-a-Service industry. However, the certification is not limited to service centers. Brands and suppliers are interested in signing up for a certification course to train their staff and to improve their internal processes and contribute to eliminating the skill gap in the industry.

The suite combines instruments, data-enabled software, and Uster textile expertise which empower mills to lift quality and profitability to the next level. Going beyond customer benefits, the 360Q platform enables cooperation with industry-leading companies for best-in-class solutions.

Imagine a game-changing collaboration between a textile mill and Uster which revolutionizes quality and cost efficiency. Picture the seamless integration of Uster equipment and intelligent digital tools, translating test data into insights for improvements. And visualize Uster textile experts collaborating side-by-side with mill staff to achieve optimal quality levels consistently, while minimizing costs. This is Uster 360Q — a pioneering suite of solutions driving textile manufacturers towards a new era of excellence.

Uster 360Q smoothly combines three key elements: cutting-edge instruments, integrated software with data analytics, and unrivaled textile expertise from Uster’s acknowledged specialists. With this combination, textile mills can completely embody the philosophy of ‘managing a mill with quality in mind’. Uster Technologies brings a game-changing role, built on its unique market position, in which 360Q creates a visionary universe for its customers.

The supreme discipline in cotton spinning

Cotton is the most widely-used natural fiber in textiles — and the most challenging when it comes to raw material management. A primary challenge is the quality of cotton, or its quality variability, to be more precise. Spinning mills have a delicate task to maintain optimal stock levels without compromising quality or profitability. The raw material mix is crucial, as laydowns affect process performance and waste levels at different stages, as well as quality and consistency. Finally, mill personnel may not always have the expertise needed to manage these factors.

Uster 360Q supports spinners in sustainable data-driven decisions for raw material management. Combining Uster HVI 1000 with powerful software, analysis of fiber data is the start point. Uster textile experts then bring the capabilities of equipment, data and software tools into the specific mill context. This achieves maximum and long-term quality consistency, reduces mixing costs and optimizes yield and waste levels. Minimized losses from claims are the logical result.

Uster FiberQ Lot and Uster FiberQ Bale

FiberQ Lot and FiberQ Bale are the software elements of 360Q for raw material utilization. They support spinners’ daily processes, eventually resulting in better quality consistency, profitability and further growth. To suit the diverse needs of spinning mills, two different FiberQ value modules are offered: Uster FiberQ Lot and Uster FiberQ Bale. The Uster FiberQ Lot laydown management value module is suitable for mills which take representative samples of incoming cotton, rather than 100% testing of all bales, particularly when cotton parameter variation is low within one lot.

Uster FiberQ Bale laydown management value module caters for mills conducting 100-percent testing of bales — or which have test results for every bale provided by cotton classing organizations. It is ideal for machine-picked cotton with higher parameter variations within lots.

FiberQ Lot and FiberQ Bale achieve maximum quality consistency by processing high volumes of data while considering all key quality parameters. It is totally automated, with built-in application intelligence to provide laydowns to suit each mill’s context. With the potential to connect to further process steps in the future, FiberQ is the ideal starting point for the digital journey to mill optimization.

The Uster 360Q Platform is the enabler for the comprehensive data processing. The cloud platform simplifies device and software complexity by providing a central access point for all Uster solutions and digital services, with reliability and top-notch security. Uster’s new architecture enables global connectivity and greater analytical power. Spinners get set for the future, using secure, fast and reliable access to Uster cloud services that is easy to use. For example, it is now feasible to see an overview of multiple plants from one central point, in any location.

Textile expertise for impact

Any system, however intelligent, always needs the ‘human factor’ to bring the best outcome. For spinning mills, regular collaboration with Uster textile experts is what enables maximize optimization potential. Textile Expertise is the third element of Uster 360Q, available at two levels: the one-time Adoption Services supports early operation, while the continuing Advisory Service has specially targeted benefits for achieving quality consistency and minimizing costs.

With Uster Academy, 360Q introduces another source of knowledge. The Uster Academy is a comprehensive e-learning platform with course programs from global textile experts, including tailored training for diverse learning needs and impactful decision-making. Participants can stay up-to-date through flexibly-paced online courses, leading to a valued Uster certificate on completion.

Join 360Q

Uster 360Q stresses that its aims take in the full extent of data-driven decisions for optimized quality and profitability in the textile industry. That includes machinery and components manufacturers, as well as mills. ‘360 degrees’ stands for an ecosystem that is open to anybody interested in creating strong and viable customer value.

Uster Technologies is ideally positioned as a neutral quality management focused company to commit and maintain partnerships with a big vision. Technical possibilities to connect data can be leveraged by a growing network of partners, offering immense potential for mills in the textile industry.

Hyosung Introduces Expanded Ocean Protection Initiative At Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

SEOUL, South Korea — June 12, 2023 — In its ongoing commitment to provide sustainable textile solutions that meet the diverse and complex sustainability strategies active lifestyle brands have today, Hyosung has expanded its Ocean Protection Initiative with a broader assortment of premium regen ocean yarns made from discarded fishing nets, which it will present at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, June 19-21, 2023, in Salt Lake City, UT.

Hyosung began its ocean protection journey in 2007 as the first company to collect and recycle discarded fishing nets that pollute our seas and harm marine life. As more brands began seeking ocean-based recycled materials that align with their unique ocean protection programs, Hyosung invested in its proprietary recycling process and the increased production of its regen ocean nylon program to produce high-quality GRS-certified post-consumer yarns made from discarded fishing nets.

Hyosung’s GRS-certified regen ocean nylon program includes:

  • regen ocean robic:
    • High-tenacity recycled nylon from 100% discarded fishing nets
    • High-tenacity recycled nylon from 50% discarded fishing nets and 50% pre-consumer content
