World of Wipes® International Conference 2018 Calls for Presentations

CARY, N.C. — July 13, 2017 — INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, is seeking presentations for the 12th annual World of Wipes® (WOW) International Conference, to be held June 5-8, 2018, at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Chicago. WOW is the premier international wipes event featuring three-days of program content devoted solely to the wipes industry’s latest technologies, emerging markets, and new developments necessary to stay on top of changes in the evolving wipes industry.

WOW 2017 attracted over 470 wipes professionals to address issues and advances affecting the global nonwoven wipes sectors including sustainability, ingredients and preservatives, retail and institutional global wipe trends, government regulations, flushability, and material science developments. “This year’s strong turnout reinforces the dynamic growth in this segment. Wipes professionals from 20 countries convened for three days to make valuable business connections and keep up on the exceptional technology and continued innovation in this industry,” said Dave Rousse, INDA president.

Polygiene® Permanent Odor Control Technology To Debut At iCAST With Orvis® And Simms®

MALMÖ, Sweden — July 12, 2017 — Polygiene® announced outdoor and flyfishing brands Orvis® and Simms® as new adopters of its ingredient odor technology. Polygiene’s innovative fabric treatment will be incorporated as an integral part of Orvis’ Spring 2018 travel collection as well as with several new technical angling pieces from Simms.

In-House Show Of Superlatives To Mark Karl Mayer’s 80th Anniversary

OBERTSHAUSEN, Germany — July 12, 2017 — Karl Mayer is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2017. Eighty years of successfully doing business also means eight decades of providing the textile sector with the latest innovations.

Karl Mayer is demonstrating these by holding a number of celebrations to mark its anniversary, during which in-house shows at the company’s various locations will give an insight into the production technology and likely textile developments of the future. The highlight of these innovation shows was an event held recently at the company’s headquarters in Obertshausen.

Presentation of a modern company to a global audience

The celebration, which was held at the company’s headquarters on July 6, 2017, brought together customers from all over the world. More than 750 guests came from 50 countries. Some of the visitors accepted long and troublesome journeys, coming for example from India, China, Taiwan and Japan.

Karl Mayer was presenting itself to the visitors as a company, which is ideally placed to face the future. During a guided tour, they were shown the completely renovated Component Production Department, an Assembly Hall, which was only opened at the end of last year, and the modern Development Centre.

Over the last five years, Karl Mayer has invested extensively in improving the competitiveness of its high-tech locations in Germany, Italy and Japan, and has spent a total of 60 million euros. The money was invested in new plant, modernizing the production facilities, and new IT systems.

During the tour of the halls, it quickly became clear that Karl Mayer is passionate about the future. “The company has changed enormously since my last visit,”  said Ning Yi, managing director, Tianhai Lace. “The facilities and general atmosphere are extremely modern and progressive.”

“We are presenting ourselves successfully as innovative world market leader,” confirmed Arno Gärtner, Karl Mayer’s CEO, during the event. “All the customers are impressed by the new factory hall added to our headquarters and by the new and innovative further developments of our machines.”

Facing the future with a modern innovation show

In the Development Centre, the guests were treated to a unique, multimedia innovation show. Progressive solutions have enabled the company to grow. Karl Mayer is a world leader in its business fields of warp knitting machines, technical textiles and warp preparation. “The product innovations which, in many cases, we have developed in cooperation with you, our business partners, have been a decisive factor in our success over the last 80 years,” said Gärtner, during his welcoming speech. Innovations will also be important in the future, and there will be a demand not only for progressive, technical systems but also for innovative services, processes, new organizational structures and new ways of operating. The whole textile value-added chain will be optimized by intelligent systems, automation and lean processes.

Digitization is an important aspect in this case. “Digitization is changing our world rapidly. This applies to both how we work and live,” explained the CFO, Dr. Helmut Preßl. Sustainability and the efficient use of resources also present huge challenges to the textile machine sector. Karl Mayer is working on all of these aspects. In keeping with its motto, “We care about your future,” the company always has one eye on added value for its customers. “We know that, without you, our business partners, Karl Mayer would not be so successful,” said Dr. Preßl to the assembled guests. Right from the beginning, the founder, Karl Mayer, focused on close collaboration and cooperation with his customers, and set up company sites on its main markets.

The impressive, in-house show clearly demonstrated what could be achieved for its customers through team spirit, passion, a high level of expertise, and an understanding of the market. The musician, Alex Auer, was also inspired by the noise of the machines and created the Sound of Innovation, a piece for the guitar and high-tech production technology.

The in-house show was demonstrating nine partially revamped and newly developed machines from Karl Mayer’s Warp Knitting, Technical Textiles and Warp Preparation Business Units, as well as new textile developments having the potential to generate new business. The visitors were extremely impressed by the show. “Karl Mayer is extremely innovative and progressive in all its machine sectors,” said Leo Wu of Wu Luen Knitting Co., Ltd. “The machines feature a high level of automation, operate at an impressive level of efficiency, and are easy to operate. They are the kings among the machines available on the market.”

Strand Hospitality Services began managing hotel properties in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area in 1969 and has since expanded to managing top-tier properties throughout the southeast. Belmont Land & Investment, formed in 1939, develops and manages residential and commercial properties in the Charlotte area, and invests in hotel properties in the Southeastern U.S.

New Venue Location Announced for 2nd Edition Of The Home Furnishings Manufacturing Solutions Expo

ATLANTA — July 11, 2017 – Exposition Development Company Inc. (EDC) and Progressive Business Media (PBM) announced today the relocation of Home Furnishings Manufacturing Solutions Expo (HFMSE). The second edition will now take place July 18-19, 2018, at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, S.C.

The decision to move the event, which had its first edition June 7-8, 2017 at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta, was primarily due to a high demand from exhibitors and attendees alike requesting the expo be held within the Carolinas.

With further discussions among industry leaders, the consensus is that moving to Greenville will allow for easier event access for the furniture manufacturing industry and significant growth in both exhibitor and attendee numbers. Additional benefits such as free parking, and free Wi-Fi also contributed to the decision.

“We had great support from the industry’s leaders for the first edition of the event, but there is still a significant audience that we are not getting to the show. Upcoming TRSA Annual Conference Packed with Education Sessions

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — July 11, 2017 — Presenters providing unique insights into linen, uniform and facility services trends plus two informative and entertaining keynote speakers from outside the industry will educate attendees of the upcoming 2017 TRSA Annual Conference, Sept. 12-14 in Miami Beach.

The agenda appeals to the complete range of industry management professionals: owner-operators, executives, directors, general managers and other laundry-based department heads. Techtextil North America Shows Continued Growth With 2017 Edition

ATLANTA — July 11, 2017 — The 14th edition of Techtextil North America took place June 20-22, 2017 at McCormick Place – Lakeside Center in Chicago. This was the fifth edition of Techtextil North America hosted outside of Atlanta, held in the even years, and the first of its kind in Chicago. The Lakeside Center at McCormick Place provided a beautiful backdrop of the Chicago skyline while over 3,000 attendees networked with producers, manufacturers and finishers from across the world over the course of the three-day event.

The two in one event, co-located with JEC Americas’ Future of Composites in Construction, resulted in the largest technical textiles, nonwovens, textile machinery, and composites show in the United States this year — facilitating an active exchange of ideas and new partnerships across industries.

The 2017 Techtextil North America show hosted 167 exhibitors from 16 countries. The co-located event with JEC Americas attracted 3,096 visitors from around the world representing Apple, Tesla, Reebok and more.

“We are pleased to announce that this year’s Techtextil North America, hosted in Chicago, Illinois, resulted in a 40-percent increase in attendance over the 2015 edition. Over the course of three days, the event garnered a dynamic audience — with visitors from geographies and verticals not represented at previous editions of the show. World-Class Symposium 2017

A regular feature to the Techtextil North America show schedule, the much anticipated Symposium, this year boasted five sessions with 23 industry expert presentations that covered the topics of advancements in manufacturing and waste minimization, innovations in automotive design, smart textiles and wearables, and overcoming talent sourcing challenges in the industry.

As an addition to the paid sessions, a complimentary joint session was held in collaboration with JEC Americas focusing on technical textiles and composites in building and construction applications.

Tech Talks

This year, Messe Frankfurt partnered with the Nonwovens Institute to bring a new feature to the show floor. Tech Talks were complimentary sessions with first come, first serve seating powered by the Nonwovens Institute. In addition to sessions on filtration, safety and transportation presented by Dave Nelson, the Nonwovens Institute’s Director of Industry Engagement, graduate student Poster Program participants had the opportunity to present their research on the show floor, giving attendees and exhibitors a glance at the ideas and talent coming from the top textile programs in the country.
