Alsco-San Diego Earns Hygienically Clean Healthcare Certification

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — September 1, 2017 — Alsco Inc.’s San Diego facility has earned Hygienically Clean Healthcare designation, reflecting its commitment to best management practices (BMPs) in laundering as verified by on-site inspection and their capability to produce hygienically clean textiles as quantified by ongoing microbial testing.

The certification confirms the laundry’s dedication to compliance and processing healthcare textiles (HCTs) using BMPs as described in its quality assurance documentation, the focal point for laundry plant inspectors’ evaluation of critical control points that minimize risk. The independent, third-party inspection must confirm essential evidence that:

  • Employees are properly trained and protected;
  • Managers understand legal requirements;
  • OSHA-compliant; and
  • Physical plant operates effectively.

In addition, Alsco passed three rounds of outcome-based microbial testing, indicating that their processes are producing Hygienically Clean Healthcare linens and garments and zero presence of harmful bacteria. To maintain their certification, laundry plants must pass quarterly testing to ensure that as laundry conditions change, such as water quality, textile fabric composition and wash chemistry, laundered product quality is consistently maintained.

This process eliminates subjectivity by focusing on outcomes and results that verify textiles cleaned in these facilities meet appropriate hygienically clean standards and BMPs for hospitals, surgery centers, medical offices, nursing homes and other medical facilities.

Hygienically Clean Healthcare certification acknowledges laundries’ effectiveness in protecting healthcare operations through testing and inspections that scrutinize quality control procedures in linen and uniform service operations. The Hygienically Clean standard provides for two inspections every three years. OSHA compliance is closely examined, particularly toxic and hazardous substance handling rules governing textiles containing blood and other potentially infectious materials.

Certified laundries use processes, chemicals and BMPs acknowledged by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and others. Introduced in 2012, Hygienically Clean Healthcare incorporates the international cleanliness standards for healthcare linens and garments used worldwide by the Certification Association for Professional Textile Services and the European Committee for Standardization.

Objective experts in epidemiology, infection control, nursing and other healthcare professions work with TRSA launderers to ensure the certification continues to enforce the highest standards for producing clean healthcare textiles. With 100+ years as the textile services industry’s leading business association, TRSA’s expertise in laundry BMP development is unmatched.

“Congratulations to Alsco on their certification,” said Joseph Ricci, TRSA president and CEO. “This achievement proves their dedication to building their customers’ confidence that their laundry takes every step possible to prevent human illness.”

Pindler Releases The New Exclusive Pendleton Collection By Sunbrella

MOORPARK, Calif. — August 31, 2017 — Pindler has announced its latest exclusive collection, Pendleton by Sunbrella®, which includes 44 patterns and is grounded by four hero patterns: Lahaina, Eagle Rock, Canyonlands and Zapotec.

The collection was brought to life through the combination of two heritage brands, calling upon Pendleton Woolen Mills’ distinct aesthetic and Sunbrella fabrics’ enduring performance qualities to recreate classic American patterns. Pendleton owns and operates weaving mills in Oregon and Washington, and the process to produce these fabrics is under the watchful eyes of Pendleton craftsmen.

“This is one of our most exciting collections yet,” said Curt Pindler, CEO of Pindler. “We’re delighted to bring the Pendleton Collection by Sunbrella to the interior design trade. Pendleton has been a staple in fashion for years and we’re looking forward to seeing it make its way into interior design in the United States and beyond. And partnering with Sunbrella has been a true pleasure.”

The Pendleton Collection by Sunbrella is designed to tell the story of those who walked the land before us, whose story unfolds across the plains of American history. The Lahaina pattern combines traditional tribal-influenced designs from the Hawaiian mainland with blue and turquoise representing the beaches near Lahaina, Maui. The Eagle Rock pattern incorporates Native American design elements and weaving traditions of the Southwest. Canyonlands uses a modern ombré weave to create rich layers that mimic the movement of sunlight dancing across the canyons. Zapotec gets its name from the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico, who established a tradition of weaving colorful cloths using natural dyes from plants and animals. The pattern features classic geometric designs and elegant simplicity.

“Partnering with both Pendleton and Sunbrella is a designer’s dream,” said Elise Connor, Director of Design for Pindler. “We are very excited to present this collection to the design trade which combines two major design trends — the iconic designs from our American heritage and performance fabrics — both in high demand within the marketplace.”

The Pendleton Collection by Sunbrella is exclusively available nationally through Pindler’s 16 showroom locations and dedicated professional field sales representatives across the country; as well as 10 Agent Showrooms & 2 international representatives.

Medical Textiles: BeoCare & FRA Production Enter Into Strategic Alliance

HUDSON, N.C. – September 1, 2017 — BeoCare Group Inc., a North‐American manufacturer of knitted medical textiles, and Italy-based Fra Production S.p.A. have entered into a strategic alliance. As part of the transaction, Fra Production has acquired a minority stake in BeoCare’s capital through a capital increase, which will give BeoCare additional working capital to expand its U.S. market presence. Both companies will continue to operate in their respective markets under their own brand names. At the same time they will integrate their product portfolio and production capabilities in Europe and the United States.

As a result of the alliance, BeoCare — which will become FRA’s distributor in the USA — will expand its product range, by offering FRA products such as the mesh fixation pants and the patented Surgifix tubular netting, as well as a wide range of bandages. BeoCare is expanding its manufacturing plant in Hudson, N.C., so it can manufacture more of these mesh fixation products in the United States, under license from FRA Production.

At the same time FRA Production will become the sole European distributor for all BeoCare products, including seamless fixation pants, maternity and surgical garments and all elastic products, which were added to the BeoCare product offering since the acquisition of Shelby Elastics in 2014. “We believe this alliance presents a huge opportunity for both companies”, says Fra Production’s CEO Andrea Colombo. “It creates a truly global group, which will be able to better meet the global needs of our clients”.

BeoCare, which employs 125 people in Hudson, is the leading domestic OEM contract manufacturer of knitted textile products for use in fixation, compression and support. BeoCare is certified ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 and counts some of the largest medical distributors in the United States amongst its clients. “We are very excited about the new partnership with Fra”, says BeoCare‐CEO Peter Vanderbruggen. “It allows us to remain a US‐based manufacturer, while at the same time being part of a larger multinational group with strong representation on two continents”.

Fra Production Spa is a world leader in designing and manufacturing cutting‐edge medical, food, agricultural, and industrial products. Having been on the Italian and international markets for over 55 years, Fra Production manufactures and supplies medical tubular elastic netting for dressing retention under its ground‐breaking Surgifix patent, as well as elastic mesh pants and bandages. The company mission is to improve customer satisfaction every day by offering innovative products, awarded with top certifications and designed in every detail to offer top quality products and unrivalled service.

SPGPrints Presents Solutions To Facilitate The Digital Transformation Of Textile Printing At Fespa Mexico 2017

BOXMEER, the Netherlands — August 31, 2017 — SPGPrints will present its comprehensive machine and ink solutions to drive the uptake of digital textile printing in Central America at Fespa Mexico 2017, Centro Citibanamex, Mexico City, 21-23 September.

Featured on the SPGPrints stand (A28) will be video presentations and information about the award-winning PIKE® and JAVELIN® digital textile printers. Both printers use SPGPrints’ unique Archer® technology and Fujifilm Dimatix Samba print heads to fire variable drops of ink (2-10 picoliters) from a distance of up to 4 millimeters onto the substrate, to deliver optimum saturation, precision and speed, on a wide variety of natural and synthetic textiles.

The Javelin is a digital production scanning printer aimed at companies taking the first step into digital printing, or supplementing an existing digital capability. It is designed for textile printers requiring up to 2 million linear metres per year. For larger volumes, SPGPrints also offers the Pike, a single-pass, high-speed production printer.

Also highlighted on the stand are SPGPrints’ inks for digital printers using Kyocera print heads. Acid, reactive, disperse and sublimation inks are all manufactured by SPGPrints at its newly expanded 1000m2 ink production facility, located at the company’s Boxmeer (Netherlands) global headquarters. Working in close conjunction with leading print head manufacturers, SPGPrints’ inks ensure smooth running, wide colour gamuts, outstanding quality and low maintenance.

Information and samples from solutions and innovations demonstrating SPGPrints’ continued commitment to the conventional rotary screen sector will also be on display and available for inspection. SPGPrints offers high-accuracy and high-productivity screen-imaging solutions to meet the requirements of all textile printers. The SPGPrints bestLEN direct laser engraver can image screens in as little as half an hour without films, chemicals or exposing and washing processes. The smartLEX laser imaging system uses multi-beam diode technology for fast, precise screen imaging.

Part of SPGPrints’ rotary screen offering are its latest screens with fine meshes to meet exacting standards. The NovaScreen® range offers high quality, durable, reuseable, nickel screens in mesh sizes from 135 to 245. The NovaScreen 245 mesh offers the highest possible resolution in printing with sharp lines and geometrical designs.  The RandomScreen® is a 125 mesh screen with the position of each hole slightly out of line. This eliminates moiré when printing problematic textiles or designs.

Supporting these innovative technologies is SPGPrints Mexico, SA de CV. Based in San Antonio, Mexico City, and providing local expertise, service and support, the company has a deep understanding of the Mexican market, and can react quickly to ensure that its customers enjoy maximum uptime, print quality and productivity.

“We are very excited about Fespa Mexico,” said Fernando Montes, managing director, SPGPrints Mexico. “The Mexican market is on the cusp of taking its first serious steps into high-volume digital textile production, and the PIKE and JAVELIN printers offer the combination of speed, print quality, flexibility and cost-effectiveness that our customers, and others, have been waiting for.”

The launch of the single-pass Pike printer at ITMA Milan, in 2015, was a milestone in textile printing, ushering in the age of high-volume digital textile production. It won the European Digital Press (EDP) Award for the Best Industrial Textile Solution in 2016.

The Javelin printer, launched a year later, uses the same print heads, ink, and Archer technology. It uses multi-pass scanning technology to print up to 367 linear metres per hour, which equates to 2 million linear metres per year, in web widths of 1850mm or 3200mm. The Javelin won the EDP Award for Best Textile Solution, in 2017.

“Both Pike and Javelin are well-suited to the Mexican market,” Montes continued. “They offer production flexibility, cost-effective short runs, fast turnarounds, and high print quality.”

Archer technology and Pike and Javelin inks, through the use of variable drops, extends the colour gamut so that it is wider than the high-definition (HD) gamut of other digital textile printing solutions. Adding to SPGPrints’ value proposition, the Archer Print Head Program offers a 2.5 year warranty on print heads, in combination with use of accredited inks, significantly reducing running costs.

Mexico: growing interest in digital textile printing technology

“We’re finding the interest in digital printing to be very high,” Montes said. “I would say that about three-quarters of our conventional rotary screen customers have expressed a strong interest in investing in this technology within the next few years.”

The Mexican market, like those around the world, is increasingly driven by the internet and cost-pressure. Online shopping and fast-fashion retail outlets mean that garments are more time-sensitive than ever. Time-to-market is a vital factor for fashion suppliers and retailers, and shorter, cheaper and more efficient supply chains are needed. There is a great need to reduce stock levels and seek leaner textile production workflows.

“Digital printing answers all these requirements,” Montes said. “With only the quantities required being printed, and no prepress processes, waste is slashed; chemical purchase, storage and disposal are eliminated, making the end-to-end production process sustainable.

“The ability of printers with a digital capability to change designs on-the-fly means that different patterns and sizes can be printed in quantities as low as one. Print placement is also possible, to ensure that design elements are placed in the same relative position on every garment regardless of the size.”

Digital textile printing is also able to respond to other characteristics of the Mexican market.

“At present, there is about a 60-40 split between polyester and cotton garments,” said Montes. “Digital printing is able to create a more attractive look and feel without impacting price – which is also a major force in the market.

“Digital also produces solid blotches, fine lines and detail, including micro floral patterns, as well as sharp, even geometric patterns,” he explained. “Apart from the look and feel, consumers are now much more exacting about quality. They want their fashion to be inexpensive, but they don’t want to look, or feel, cheap.

“The digital proposition fulfils all those criteria, and textile printers who wish to remain on the leading edge will find much to interest them on the SPGPrints stand at Fespa Mexico,” Montes concluded.
