Skateboarding Jeans With Dyneema® Undergo The Ultimate Test In The New Trailblazers Series Short Film

THE NETHERLANDS — October 25, 2017 — The new short documentary “Love of the Fall” follows skateboarders testing abrasion and tear-resistant concept jeans made of Durable Denim with Dyneema® at the legendary Prado Bowl in Marseille.

Skateboarding is about falling down — and getting up only to try again and again. It is a process that leaves a lot of rips, tears and grazes. The Dyneema® Project worked with Amsterdam’s Denim City to come up with a pair of 90’s-style chino concept jeans with Durable Denim made with Dyneema that would speak directly to true bowl riders: light, comfortable and protective. The denim used to do the tests contains up to 8-percent Dyneema fiber.

Fifteen times stronger than steel, but so lightweight that it floats on water, Dyneema, the world’s strongest fiber™, has long been used to moor oil rigs, stop bullets, and repair humans. It is now being applied to some of the world’s most innovative denim fabrics.

Following the previous videos in the Trailblazers Series, The Dyneema® Project once again strives to display cutting-edge brands and state-of-the-art mills — to create fabrics for performance-inspired apparel, footwear and accessories. We let the final products tell the rest of the story. “These fabrics are manufactured by some of the best mills worldwide, to create many different options of durable denim, with improved level of comfort, lightness and strength.” says Giovanni Henssen, European Business Development manager at DSM Dyneema.

The short film Love of the Fall shows the jeans being tested at Marseille’s Prado Bowl by skateboarders Samuel Geoni (FR), Michael Kaba (FR) and Tim Zom (NL). They were impressed; no rips after a slam or a fall, and no abrasions when sliding on the concrete, while still feeling like a normal pair of skate jeans. “They really seem indestructible,” said Geoni.

The film also features Jean-Pierre Collinet (architect of Prado Bowl) and Laurent ‘Momo’ Molinier (owner of Bud Skateshop) who talked about the Prado Bowl’s history and significance. Built 25 years ago, the beachside icon remains a pilgrimage site for bowl riders worldwide. “We really built something out of nothing,” says Collinet as he dropped by to skate ‘his Prado Bowl’ for the first time in ten years.

OEKO-TEX® Conducts One-Of-A-Kind Consumer Textile Sustainability Study With More Than 11,000 Consumers Regarding Clothing And Home Textiles

ZURICH — October 26, 2017 — The OEKO-TEX® Association, in commemoration of its 25th anniversary, commissioned a global research study to assess consumer attitudes about textile sustainability. The results of this one-of-a-kind research project are being released this week. Entitled “The Key to Confidence: Consumers and Textile Sustainability — Attitudes, Changing Behaviors, and Outlooks”, the massive study of more than 11,000 clothing and home textile consumers around the world examined topics ranging from concerns about climate change to harmful substances in textiles. The findings from the study were released to Oeko-Tex Institute clients through a series of webinars and will be shared with the textile, home fashions, and apparel industry via speaking engagements at upcoming industry events, webinars, and other communiques.

“The Oeko-Tex portfolio of testing, certification, and label products has increased substantially since we first entered the market in 1992,” says Anna Czerwinska, head of marketing and communication at Oeko-Tex. “The world’s issues and consumer attitudes have changed just as significantly. As long-time leaders in textile sustainability, we felt that this unique global study to quantify consumer attitudes about textile sustainability was a fitting tribute to our past twenty-five years as well as a worthy undertaking to prepare us to succeed in the next.”

Oeko-Tex engaged renowned consumer products researcher, Ellen Karp and her company, Anerca International, to conduct the pioneering project. Karp works on sustainability and other branding issues with a wide array of the world’s best-known apparel, personal care, and luxury brands. The Key to Confidence project was about a year in the making and was fielded in June. The more than 11,000 clothing and home textile consumers in the study completed an online survey with a full spectrum of questions designed to gauge their attitudes about sustainability, harmful substances, environmental responsibility, and the social welfare of textile workers.

“The quantitative findings derived through The Key to Confidence study should serve as a call to action for the textile industry,” says Karp. “Consumers are fast learning that their textile buying decisions impact not only their families but also their communities and beyond. Brands, retailers, and manufacturers need to be ready for this awakening. It is definitely coming.”

Huntsman Textile Effects Solves Storage Yellowing With STABILON® NPY

SINGAPORE — October 26, 2017 — Huntsman Textile Effects has introduced an agent designed to protect against phenolic yellowing: STABILON® NPY. It helps mills protect product quality and avoid costly recalls by ensuring that lingerie, swimwear, underwear and other polyamide garments, in whites and pale shades will not yellow during storage or transit.

Pale and full white polyamide fabrics are prone to unsightly yellowing when they come into contact with phenolic antioxidants, which are frequently encountered during textile processing and commonly present in packaging materials. Stabilon NPY protective agents prevent such yellowing by blocking the free amino end-groups of polyamide fibers.

“With Stabilon NPY protective agent, brands, retailers and mills now have an upgraded offering to conventional products in the market that prevent costly storage yellowing on high-performance polyamides,” said Lee Howarth, Global Marketing Manager, Huntsman Textile Effects. “This new technology from Huntsman delivers superior protection at a previously unattainable cost-performance ratio, while also meeting stringent environmental standards.”

Designed to help mills enhance quality and profitability, Stabilon NPY protective agents are easy to use and highly effective at low concentrations. It will not foam and is suitable for all exhaustion machines and processes, withstanding severe, high temperature processing conditions such as moulding. It delivers a silky-smooth handle and does not impair light fastness.

Stabilon NPY protective agents comply with the requirements of bluesign®, the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Roadmap and the Restricted Substances Lists of the world’s most exacting global brands. Polyamide fabrics treated with Stabilon NPY protective agents are suitable for OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, earning the Confidence in Textiles label.

TRSA Sets 2018 Professional Development Event Schedule

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — October 25, 2017 — TRSA’s 2018 event calendar will offer many of the same popular formats that have attracted managers and executives of linen, uniform and facility services companies to TRSA professional development activities in recent years — with two summits added.

Eleven events have been scheduled, including the new Leadership Summit in June in Rosemont, Ill. (Chicago O’Hare Airport) plus four other summits, three conferences and three educational institutes following formats staged in 2017 and previously. Yet to be scheduled is a planned sixth summit (Marketing and Sales), likely to take place in early December.

Each summit is typically focused on management of a single aspect of industry operations. Returning in its twice-yearly format is the Production Summit and Plant Tours, where attendees discuss and view process improvements to increase laundry throughput and productivity. Typical attendees of this event, set for February in Anaheim, Calif., and September in Philadelphia, are production executives/managers and company owner-operators.

The Leadership Summit is premiering in response to TRSA members’ interest in an event providing education for and interaction between well-established leaders, young executives and emerging leaders. The third annual Marketing and Sales Summit, returning after its last appearance in 2014, will feature presentations that support attendees in capitalizing on industry market growth, retaining and recruiting management/staff and learning from other industries.

Conferences address multiple areas of operations and appeal to a wide range of individuals in various executive/management functions. The 106th Annual Conference (October, Napa, Calif.) will provide keynote speakers, industry updates and other presentations to guide everyday executive decision-making as well as corporate culture development.

The eighth annual Leadership and Legislative Conference (March, Washington, D.C.) will send participants to Capitol Hill for meetings in congressional offices. Special this year: presentation of the 2017 TRSA Lifetime Operator Achievement Award to Ronald Croatti, UniFirst Corp. (posthumously) and TRSA Maglin-Biggie Lifetime Associate Achievement Award to James Pellerin, Pellerin Milnor Corp.

On the agenda for both the Annual Conference and Leadership and Legislative Conference are TRSA committee meetings, where members prompt TRSA to act on the operational and management issues that benefit them the most. Committees create professional development programs, research projects, certification standards, industry customer outreach and publications, videos and webinars.

The seventh annual Healthcare Conference (November, Charlotte, N.C.) is the premier and largest event covering laundering for all types of medical facilities, where participants improve their grasp of practical techniques and operations/financial trends through information-sharing and networking with TRSA members, who process more than 90 percent of North American acute and specialty medical laundry.

Institute programs return in August at the University of Maryland (Hyattsville) with the 54th annual Executive Management Institute (EMI) and the 29th annual Production Management Institute (PMI). The 26th annual Maintenance Management Institute (MMI) is set for September in Philadelphia with the Production Summit and Plant Tours there. Appropriate for new and experienced managers, TRSA Institutes provide training in management principles and technical practices from the industry and businesses at large.

Miller Weldmaster Manufacturing For Good At IFAI Expo

NAVARRE, Ohio — October 22, 2017 — Miller Weldmaster, a manufacturer of industrial fabric welding solutions based in Navarre, Ohio, loves to demonstrate that it is possible to combine doing good with showcasing technology. The company demonstrated this point when it used its T300 Extreme Flex welding equipment to team up with other manufacturers in the Demo Booth: Manufacturing for Good at the IFAI EXPO 2017.

IFAI, Industrial Fabrics Association International, sponsors this premier industrial fabrics show in order to help members and attendees see new and innovative products and learn from industry experts. This year’s expo was held September 26-29 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. One unique facet of the gathering is the ability for attendees to witness live equipment demonstrations by member companies right on the trade show floor, as they collaborate in a manufacturing-for-good event to support local at-risk children and youth.

Miller Weldmaster demonstrated use of its T300 hot air welding equipment as part of a process to create sturdy duffel bags for donation to Raintree Services, Inc., a multi-service, non-profit organization that has assisted the Greater New Orleans Area since 1926.

Miller Weldmaster employee Pat Moore, shown in the photo holding a completed bag, participated on the company’s behalf and was the last step in an assembly line that manufactured over 70 bags during the show. Moore welded the round ends of every bag using hot air welding technology on the company’s T300 Flex Extreme Machine. There was a lot of attention to the booth, and other donations such as school supplies, were also collected. “It was an honor to be a part of the group that created these bags,” commented Moore. “On the last day of the IFAI Expo, a member of the foundation came to collect the bags and she was very grateful for all we had done. I was thrilled to be able to participate in a program that can do so much good for the local community.”

The Miller Weldmaster T300 Extreme Flex is a flexible welding solution that has the ability to use hot air and hot wedge welding technologies with an unlimited array of seam types. The versatile hot air welding machine can weld overlaps, hems, and pockets for a variety of products including bags, banners, tents, shelters, tarps, and more. It includes an easy operation touch screen with recipe storage for quick setting recall, dual arms for increased product versatility, and quick, repeatable head adjustments for precision welding. The T300 is available in hot wedge, hot air or can be equipped with both for optimal product production. There is an easy change guide for multiple seam configurations.

“We were honored to be part of this year’s ‘Manufacturing for Good’ Event, and look forward to participating again next year,” concluded Miller Weldmaster president and owner, Scott Miller. “Our company has built a culture based on family values, innovation and hard work since 1972. This was the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our equipment while supporting Raintree in providing services to the children and families of New Orleans.

Subli-Lining Of Texo Trade Services: Cost-Efficient Printing On Natural Fabrics With Sublimation Transfer

WADDINXVEEN, The Netherlands — October 25, 2017 — Natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and silk have a high quality, a pleasant feel and look beautiful. When printed, they have one disadvantage: the colors are less vivid and sharp compared to printed polyester. Also, the colors fade during washing, which is not the case with polyester. Besides the printing process is laborious and therefore expensive. Texo Trade Services, expert in transfer print media and printable textile, offers the solution with Subli-Lining. It gives creative companies in the fashion, interior, trade fairs, advertising and textile industry the best of both worlds with Subli-Lining: cost-efficient printed cotton, silk or linen with all advantages of printing on polyester, without losing all good features, look and feel of the natural fabrics.

High color range, abrasion resistant, natural fibers

Subli-Lining is a very thin material made of 100% polyester that can be printed on natural fabrics with sublimation transfer. The result: an extremely high color range. The colours are very deep, vivid and durable and remain so, due to the washable and durable characteristics of the material. Polyester is synthetic and not a natural fiber you wear on your skin. It does not have a luxurious appearance such as cotton. With Subli-Lining you only have a very thin polyester top layer, therefore the look and feel of the natural fabric does not change.

Simple, cost-efficient printing method

Besides all the advantages in terms of quality, look and feel, Subli-Lining brings an important financial advantage along. It is cheaper than printing on natural fabrics. Cotton for instance, demands a laborious and time consuming printing method; it must be pre-treated, printed, steamed, washed and dryed. With Subli-Lining the natural fabric is printed with sublimation transer. On the calender it is imprinted with transfer paper and laminated onto the fabric at the same time. Subli-Lining is even suitable for dark colored and dark textiles. A post-treatment is not neccessary. Expensive wash-, steam- and dry installations are superfluous. So printing companies can increase their margins by saving on production costs.

Small runs, personalized printing

Subli-Lining of Texo Trade Services is the solution for companies that want to produce smaller runs. Beside large, small runs of only 2 to 3 meters are possible. Fabrics can thus be printed personalized, such as suits, shirts, dresses, pillows, curtains and liners. This allows companies to distinguish themselves; they can offer customers more choices without making a large investment and keeping stock. In short, Subli-Lining is the solution for every printing company who wants to print natural fabrics in a cost-efficient way.
