ITMA Asia + CITME 2018 Gets Textile Manufacturers’ Support

SHANGHAI — April 24, 2018 — The sixth edition of ITMA ASIA + CITME has received extremely strong support from both domestic and international textile machinery manufacturers. With six months still to go before the combined event, ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018 is heading for another successful showing.

Over 1,600 textile machinery manufacturers have applied to exhibit at the sixth combined show, snapping up all of the available 170,000 square metres gross of exhibition space to showcase state-of-the-art machinery, as well as products that boost automation and energy-saving features.

Chinese manufacturers take the largest area, followed by Germany, Italy, Japan and Switzerland.

Sector-wise, spinning machinery forms the largest sector. This is followed by finishing and dyeing, knitting, weaving and nonwovens.

The enthusiastic response for the exhibition is the result of China’s ongoing strategic push for innovation to enhance the global competitiveness of Chinese textile and other industry sectors under the government’s 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016 – 2020).

Fritz P. Mayer, president, CEMATEX, said: “We are delighted that the combined exhibition has continued to garner strong interest. It proves that our exhibition is the industry-leading platform in Asia for textile machinery manufacturers to showcase a wide spectrum of cutting-edge solutions.”

Added Wang Shutian, president, China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA): “Interest in the combined show remains extremely strong, especially from Chinese textile machinery manufacturers. As China’s textile industry continues its transformation, the demand for advanced machinery and technology is on the rise.”

Although the space application deadline has passed, the show owners are still besieged with late applications, and a waiting list for space has now been drawn up.  Approved exhibitors will receive their stand allocations on 21 May.

ITMA ASIA + CITME will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai from 15 to 19 October 2018.

The combined show is owned by CEMATEX and its Chinese partners – the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT (CCPIT-Tex), China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA) and China Exhibition Centre Group Corporation (CIEC). It is organised by Beijing Textile Machinery International Exhibition Co Ltd and co-organised by ITMA Services.  The Japan Textile Machinery Association (JTMA) is a special partner of the show.

Home Furnishings Manufacturing Solutions Expo Update — New Manufacturing Study Points To Role Of Technology In Furniture Production

GREENVILLE, S.C. — April 23, 2018 — A newly released research study finds that American furniture and furnishings manufacturers place great value on the role of technology … but have their work cut out for them to get up to global standards.

“North America has the second highest number of respondents declaring that automated technology plays an essential role in their processes,” the study finds. “Half of North  American respondents would like to further develop the use of technology in their processes. However, American companies are the least likely to have CNC cutting or virtual prototyping solutions.”

The new research study, “What’s Rearranging the North American Upholstered Furniture Industry?” was conducted by the Centre for Industrial Studies and Lectra. It points to opportunities for American producers to significantly upgrade their production facilities through the use of technologies such as virtual prototyping.

Such technologies are a key element of the upcoming Home Furnishings Manufacturing Solutions Expo, taking place July 18 and 19 at Greenville’s TD Convention Center, nearby the Triad heart of the furniture business and accessible for companies based throughout the Southeast.

The Expo features a wide variety of exhibitors showcasing the latest in manufacturing equipment, systems, software and technology specifically developed for the furniture and home furnishings industry.

These manufacturing solutions are what is needed for American producers to address the changing market conditions of the industry, the study finds. “North American survey respondents rated demand for quicker deliveries and downward price pressure as their most pressing challenges,” the survey reported.

“Successful manufacturers are tackling their key challenges with concrete objectives and pragmatic business plans. Survey results reveal that streamlining costs, reducing delivery time and catering to personalized tastes will be critical for creating a competitive advantage in this market.” The research study makes it clear that technology, combined with brand development and an emphasis on product design can be the differentiating factor for successful furniture producers.

“Taking a technology-focused approach is the best way to develop and manage the extensive catalog, range of options, shorter delivery times and more rapid innovation in features and functionality that customers desire,” the report concluded.  “Those companies who have carefully invested in end-to-end hardware and software solutions, or plan to invest in the next few years, will be strategically positioned to meet current and future market challenges.”

ExxonMobil Makes Polypropylene Commitment Launching New Achieve Advanced PP

HOUSTON — April 24, 2018 — ExxonMobil has introduced Achieve™ advanced PP, featuring new products that offer a significant step beyond traditional polypropylene (PP) performance. Built on technology innovations, these products allow customers to challenge reality. Now customers can rethink what is possible in a range of applications, including: automotive parts, rigid packaging, nonwovens, and appliances. The performance of Achieve advanced PP combined with value chain collaboration enables customers to unlock new business opportunities.

Achieve advanced PP eliminates trade-offs associated with conventional polymers. For example, improving the stiffness and toughness balance in automotive applications is possible; in rigid packaging, stiffness and processing efficiency can now be increased together; and, in appliance parts, high gloss can be attained economically.

“Achieve advanced PP specifically addresses our customers’ desire for innovation and growth. Through collaboration and our combined expertise, these advanced PP solutions can unlock new business opportunities,” said Cindy Shulman, ExxonMobil vice president of Plastics and Resins. “Our Achieve advanced PP launch further demonstrates our commitment to the industry, complementing our recently announced plans for a PP investment on the U.S. Gulf Coast.”

Delivering extraordinarily tough automotive parts, this advanced PP is inspiring compounders and auto makers to challenge reality. With 35 percent higher impact versus standard impact copolymers, Achieve advanced PP enables tougher, lighter vehicle components that are durable and safe. Plastomer loading can be reduced by up to 50 percent for cost saving opportunities.

Enabling remarkably rigid containers, cups and tubs for the retail and food service industry, Achieve advanced PP is encouraging manufacturers to challenge reality. Exploiting high melt strength, designers can deliver stiffer packaging and gain economic benefit from excellent processing. Opportunities exist to downgauge wall thickness by up to 15 percent and increase line speeds by 7 percent for higher output. Packaging made with Achieve advanced PP is microwaveable, reusable and is widely recyclable.

Achieve advanced PP sets the benchmark for tremendously comfortable nonwovens. It allows brand owners to challenge reality by providing outstanding barrier properties and up to 15 percent higher fabric strength that can be tailored to meet the needs of diapers, wipes, adult incontinence, and feminine care products.

Delivering amazingly eye-catching appliances, this widely recyclable advanced PP is ideal for upgrading standard impact copolymer solutions or replacing over-engineered ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). Achieve advanced PP helps brand owners challenge reality because parts with 20 percent higher gloss than standard PP can now be economically produced.

“Achieve advanced PP is motivating brand owners and manufacturers to rethink what is possible with PP,” said Shulman. “Using this advanced PP eliminates trade-offs in performance, processing and end-of-life handling.”

Customers can use Achieve advanced PP to challenge reality and unlock new opportunities, while being supported by the ExxonMobil brand values of global reliability, product consistency and technical support that are critical for business growth.
