Cone Denim Launches Future BLACK+ Denim Featuring Lenzing Modal® And REPREVE®

GREENSBORO, N.C. — October 23, 2017 — Cone Denim, Lenzing and Unifi are excited to collaborate on the launch of Future BLACK+ denim featuring Lenzing Modal® branded fibers and REPREVE® Black recycled fibers. Future BLACK+, the industry’s first certified fade-resistant black denim, will join Cone Denim’s family of TruTone™ fabrics. Jeans made from Future Black+ denim contain as many as 17 recycled plastic bottles and feature superior softness, color retention and stretch, while minimizing the impact on the environment.

Future Black+ denim achieves its durable color by utilizing dope dyeing, an energy-saving and environmentally friendly dyeing technique that introduces the pigment during the production process. Adding the colorant during manufacturing allows the entire body of the fiber to be colored instead of only the surface and eliminates the need for a dye bath later in the process. Wash tests have shown that denim made from Future Black+ showed no sign of color loss even after more than 20 washes, producing a denim that’s built to last.

“Lenzing has always been committed to sustainability and making our manufacturing process as eco-friendly as possible,” said Tricia Carey, director of global business development for denim at Lenzing. “By partnering with Cone Denim and Unifi, we were able to work with like-minded companies to create an advanced product that saves resources throughout the manufacturing process.”

“This collaboration elevates our commitment as a sustainability leader and denim innovator,” said Kara Nicholas, vice president of product design and marketing for Cone Denim. “Color retention in black denim is an increasingly important trend for consumers and a perfect fit with our TruTone fabric story focused around black and indigo-like navy fabrics that offer supreme color retention, plus all of the added benefits of the environmental story.”

Repreve is a leading brand of fibers made from recycled plastic bottles by Unifi. Lenzing Modal BLACK has around 50 to 60 percent lower environmental impact than conventional dyed fabric. The Lenzing manufacturing process requires less chemical and energy inputs during manufacturing, and uses 64 percent less water during the dye process. Together, these earth-friendly fibers create a high performing, highly sustainable denim.

“By combining Lenzing Modal fiber with Repreve, we are able to satisfy some of the biggest consumer demands for the marketplace,” said Jay Hertwig, Unifi’s vice president of global brand sales and premium value-added sales. “Unifi is proud to work with both The Lenzing Group and Cone Denim to create a high-quality product that helps decrease our industry’s environmental footprint.”

Future Black+ will launch at Kingpins Amsterdam, Oct. 25-26, and will also be showing at Kingpins New York, November 29-30, as part of the Cone Denim TruTone collection.

Frankfurt Nanotechnology Company Selected To Present Breakthrough Innovation At Hello Tomorrow Global Summit

FRANKFURT, Germany — October 19, 2017 — Frankfurt-based nanotechnology company nanogy has been nominated as one of 500 tech start-ups worldwide to participate in the upcoming Hello Tomorrow Global Summit in Paris. At the same time, nanogy will also present an interactive showcase along with 100 other specially selected companies, with an aim of bringing warming technology to life.

The exclusive event is made up of deep-tech enablers, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives, intent on changing the world with new technologies. The event focuses on bringing tomorrow’s technology today, and will be a melting pot of visions, ideas, and innovations. Among them will be nanogy, a groundbreaking intelligent, metal-free warming technology.

The technology was developed by Chinese market leader j-NOVA©, and has recently been introduced to the European market. The ultra-light technology can be integrated into any textile, including clothing, car seats, medical applications, and more. The technology is compatible with any standard power bank, making it a practical and safer alternative to similar, existing solutions.

The innovative, lightweight technology is completely non-metallic, meaning it also emits no radiation. The non-metallic nature of the technology allows it to be washed up to 1,000 times at any temperature. The technology is extremely thin and flexible, and can be scrunched or crumpled without damaging its function. This also means that the technology can be integrated into garments without any visible lines or hems, making it the optimal solution for companies in numerous industries.

nanogy measures an energy conversion rate of more than 90 percent, making it one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly warming solutions ever developed. The technology is also recyclable, so consumers can dispose of it as they would any other garment.

“Our focus is not just to provide world class technology, but also to improve people’s lives without harming our environment. We are excited to see what the Hello Tomorrow event has to offer, and are looking forward to bringing nanothermal experiences to Paris,” says Company Director Jeni Odley. As expected for any modern tech company, users can even control the temperature of the textile with a mobile app, making the integration of nanogy a simplified, one-touch experience.

Cover Girl Chooses Safety Components’ WeatherMAX 3D

GREENVILLE, S.C. — October 20, 2017 — Covering complex, 3-D shapes requires an elastic fabric that won’t loosen over time. That’s why Tammy Hampton, owner of Cover Girl Marine Canvas and Upholstery, chose Safety Components’ innovative WeatherMAX 3D for a recent project. It delivers the flexibility she needed when fabricating a cover for a large marine outboard engine.

“I thought this project would be an ideal use for the fabric,” said Hampton. “It has the ability to fit right and look good. It’s really unique.” She had previously used it on a custom race car cover with great results.

Hampton has been working with the original WeatherMAX technical fabric since its introduction, so she understands the unique qualities that make WeatherMAX 3D perfect for difficult to fit applications. It’s UV- and fade-resistant, and 100-percent pigment solution-dyed for color consistency and durability. Soft and pliable, it’s water resistant, yet breathable.

“It needs a serged or overlap seam due to the stretch,” she notes, “but it’s really easy to work with.” WeatherMAX 3D expands up to 30 percent under tension, but when released, goes back to its original shape.

A rarity in the marine industry, Buford, Georgia-based Cover Girl Marine Canvas and Upholstery is woman-owned and women-run. It fabricates a complete range of boat coverings and upholstery. Multi-dimensional and continually diversifying, the company has a full e-commerce operation with its patented EZ-Xtend boat zipper for canvas that has shrunk over time. Its website is www.covergirl-marine-canvas-upholstery.com.

WeatherMAX 3D is made in the United States for long-lasting performance in extreme environments. The fabric is ideal for a wide range of applications that require durability and elasticity.
