Graphene Nanotubes Manufacturer OCSiAl Joins The Ranks Of Unicorn Companies With $1 Billion Valuation

LUXEMBOURG — July 9, 2019 — OCSiAl, the world’s largest manufacturer of graphene nanotubes, recently was added to the CB Insights Global Unicorn Club, a list of startup companies valued at $1 billion or more. OCSiAl made the list after A&NN Investments acquired a 0.5% stake in the company for $5 million.

OCSiAl was the first company to produce high-quality graphene nanotubes on an industrial scale. When it entered the market in 2014, OCSiAl offered graphene nanotubes to consumers at a price that was 75 times lower than those on the market, thereby making nanotubes accessible to a much larger number of industries. OCSiAl’s revenues have been doubling annually ever since, and the company expects to go public by 2025.

“We are confident that the value of OCSiAl will steadily grow in the long term, so we are thinking of increasing our share in the company,” said Rafael Abramyan, Investment Director at A&NN Group.

“By industry standards, graphene nanotubes are a relatively new material. Today we are observing the emergence of markets for its application,” said Yuriy Koropachinskiy, President of OCSiAl. “What is important is that these include not only the high-tech sector, but also mass-produced goods. We believe the company will be worth at least $100 billion in ten years’ time.”

Today, OCSiAl’s annual production capacity is sufficient to improve hundreds of thousands of tons of various materials. The company is rapidly increasing its output and plans to launch the first train of the world’s largest graphene nanotube synthesis plant in Luxembourg, its international headquarters, in 2022. OCSiAl’s customers include global car manufacturers, leading electronics companies, and major chemical producers.

Graphene nanotubes can drastically improve the properties of well-known materials, even when introduced in amounts as small as tenths or even hundredths of a percent. Ultra-strong, conductive nanotubes are now widely used in the aerospace, automotive, construction, mining, electronics and transport industries. There are considerable benefits related to energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions. For example, graphene nanotubes are expected to help improve the efficiency of electric vehicles by as much as 60%.

Nanotubes enable energy costs to be reduced at all stages of the product life cycle by reducing the amount of resources required for production, reducing the weight and quantity of the materials used, decreasing energy consumption during operation and disposal, and increasing the products’ lifespan.

Brooklyn Bedding Launches Propel With Upcycle™: A Smarter Sleep To Fuel Your Life

PHOENIX — July 9, 2019 — Brooklyn Bedding—manufacturer, retailer and pioneer of the online mattress—announced the launch of a new sleep solution, designed for greater renewal and revitalization. A smarter sleep to fuel your life, the Propel by Brooklyn Bedding is a hybrid mattress featuring an elite, European performance fabric with advanced Upcycle™ technology.

Upcycle™ is a proprietary surface treatment of encapsulated minerals on the mattress cover that transforms body heat into Far Infrared Rays. Emitted back to the human body as invisible waves of energy, Far Infrared Rays are unique in their ability to penetrate, soothe and stimulate local blood flow, enabling a more restorative sleep.

“Your ability to recover fully through sleep not only impacts your health, it fuels your life,” said John Merwin, Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Brooklyn Bedding. “While your brain and nervous system may be less receptive to external stimuli as you rest, your body is still performing many critical, regenerating functions. In recent years, smart textiles have made it possible to accelerate this recovery process: the technology is based on the fundamental principle that heat can be converted to energy naturally, helping you feel more energized and more well rested when you wake.”

The Propel by Brooklyn Bedding is one of several niche sleep solutions launched by the Phoenix-based manufacturer in the past year. It features technologies that systematically work together to create a better overall sleep experience. Just beneath the surface of the performance top, TitanCool™ ensures an ideal sleep temperature. In addition, the high conductivity of CopperGel™, infused in the top foam layer of the Propel, enhances the bed’s thermal properties—helping to dissipate excess body heat for a cooler, more comfortable sleep. A completely natural and environmentally friendly mineral that serves as a required nutrient in many ecosystems, copper can play a vital role in many cellular functions in the human body. When infused in foam, its antimicrobial properties help contribute to a cleaner, healthier sleep surface.

An elite hybrid mattress, the Propel is engineered with both quick and slow response foam layers for the perfect balance of comfort, paired with the deep compression support of individually encased coils.

The mattress is available online only at PropelSleep.com, retailing between $499 for a twin to $1249 for a California King. All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a free 120-night comfort trial and a 10-year warranty. The company also offers free nationwide shipping with bed-in-a-box delivery.

What’s The Blanket Buzz? One In Five U.S. Adults Say They Would Try A Weighted Blanket

DUQUESNE, Pa. — July 9, 2019 — Weighted blankets, once limited to helping comfort those with conditions such as anxiety, autism and ADHD, are now becoming a coveted tool for anyone seeking to de-stress and sleep better.i ii A new survey* from Pittsburgh-based American Textile Company, makers of innovative sleep products including Tranquility™ weighted blankets, found that one in 10 people (10%) are already weighted blanket believers, and more than one in five people (22%) would try a weighted blanket to help them relax and sleep better.

“Designed to help calm and comfort people who have trouble sleeping, including those with conditions such as stress, anxiety, and other conditions that can impact sleep, weighted blankets are not a new phenomenon,” says Patrick Seiffert, Senior Vice President of Marketing at American Textile Company. “However, the affordable, soft quilted design of Tranquility and its broad availability at retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Meijer make weighted blanket relaxation more accessible than ever.”

Snuggle Game Strong

The survey also reveals that a majority of people (59%) self-identify as snugglers, with only about one in 10 (12%) saying they are definitely not a snuggler. Younger adults – ages 18 to 34 – are the most likely to identify as snugglers (68%) and are also more likely to report good or excellent sleep quality (55% compared to 48% of all adults).

“There’s a reason snugglers report having better sleep,” says lifestyle expert, Jenn Falik. “Weighted blankets like Tranquility mimic the benefits of a hug or embrace by applying an even deep touch pressure to help ease anxiety and promote relaxation.”

Time to Unwind

When looking to relax and unwind after a long day, a majority of people (six in 10, or 62%) say chilling out at home and watching/streaming TV is part of their de-stress routine, followed closely by listening to music (46%), enjoying a nice meal (44%) or reading (41%). Additionally, about a third check/post to social media (32%) or play on their phones (31%).

“At the end of a long day, stress and anxiety can catch up with us,” says Falik. “Adding a weighted blanket into your wind-down routine of choice – be it cozying up on the couch with a show, great book or smartphone – may help.”

Tranquility™ Weighted Blankets Address Key Barriers to Trial

When considering barriers that might prevent them from trying a weighted blanket, most Americans reported a concern that it would be too hot (48%), followed closely by too expensive/not worth the money (38%) or that it might be too heavy/light (29%).

Tranquility™, the high-quality, affordable weighted blanket, features a plush outer cover with temperature-balancing technology** to keep you cool and dry. Designed to help adults and children relax, recharge and sleep more comfortably, the blankets are available in a range of weights from six to 20 pounds, with a recommended weight of about 10 percent of a person’s body weight, give or take a few pounds.

For more information on creating your ideal calm for sleep or while resting during the day, please visit www.tranquilitybedding.com/.

*Survey methodology: An omnibus survey of 2,837 American adults 18+ was designed and conducted online by Finn Partners Research, utilizing an online survey panel, developed by ORC International, between May 15 and May 18, 2019, on behalf of Tranquility™/American Textile Company.

San Jacinto College Launches The EDGE Center At Houston Spaceport

HOUSTON — July 3, 2019 — San Jacinto College, along with partners from the Houston Airport System, Houston City Council, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and community and project partners gathered on June 26, 2019, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Houston Spaceport at Ellington Airport.

Work is already underway at the development site, which will sit on 154 acres at Ellington Airport. The Houston Spaceport is the 10th commercial spaceport license in the United States awarded by the FAA. The project scope includes providing streets, water, wastewater, electrical power distribution facilities, and fiber optic and communications facilities necessary to attract future development.

As the official education training partner for the Houston Spaceport, the San Jacinto College EDGE Center will offer four initial training programs: composites manufacturing and repair technician, aerospace electrical assembly technician, aerospace structures technician, mechatronics and industrial automation technician. In addition to these programs, San Jacinto College will also offer customized and individualized training based on the needs of the spaceport partners.

“We are excited for this opportunity,” said San Jacinto College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer. “We look forward to creating an educational space that will support and enhance the workforce needs of current and future businesses in the Houston Spaceport. We thank the City of Houston, the Houston Airport System, and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership for working with us to make this EDGE Center a reality.”

Phase 1 of the Hosuton Spaceport project offers potential tenants and parters a unique environment in which to collaborate, as well as an operational platform to achieve critical business objectives. By housing organizations from across several industries and disciplines on one campus, the “innovation incubator” concept will foster and accelerate key aerospace engineering activities including: component and composite development and fabrication, space vehicle assembly, zero-gravity scientific and medical experiments, microsatellite deployment, astronaut training and development, and space tourism.

“Once completed, Phase 1 will stand ready to encourage even more progress to help companies with development of satellite technologies, drone technology, and urban air mobility initiatives,” said Houston Airport System Director Mario Diaz. “And beyond technology, it will help develop the talent to drive innovation forward. San Jacinto College is taking steps to open an aerospace workforce training center here, providing a talent pipeline that will help attract companies to Houston.”

Eventually, when all 450 acres at Ellington Airport available to the project are fully developed, the Houston Spaceport will become a focal point in the region for aerospace research, manufacturing, and commercial space operations.
