Forever 21 Celebrates Kodak’s Iconic Brand With New Apparel Collection

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — September 13, 2018 — Kodak and fashion retailer Forever 21 have teamed up on a new apparel collection for the Fall 2018 season featuring some of Kodak’s many logos and designs from the Kodak brand’s storied history.

The bright and vibrant apparel uses many of the original colors from Kodak branding and packaging from the 90’s and draws inspiration from Kodak’s days as a standout NASCAR team sponsor.

The collection offers women’s t-shirts, crop tops, jackets and lounge wear; the men’s line includes tees, polos, pullovers and jerseys. Altogether twenty-six different items will be available in 600+ stores globally and are available in men’s, women’s and junior sizes.

Kodak has been working on collaborations to drive brand awareness and advocacy with new audiences.

“Rather than be a fad or trend, we want to retain an aspirational product aimed at our core audience and those that they influence,” said Dany Atkins, chief brand officer, Kodak.  “What could be better for a brand transformation than everyone wearing your logo on a t-shirt?”

The collection was produced with Hybrid Apparel, a Kodak Licensee who works closely with Kodak on brand licensing efforts in the apparel space.

INVISTA To Add 40,000 Tons Of Nylon 6,6 Polymer Capacity By 2020

SHANGHAI — September 12, 2018 — INVISTA plans to add 40,000 tons of nylon 6,6 polymer capacity at its current 150,000-ton polymer plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP). Construction is targeted for mid-2019 and production would begin in 2020.

“We are continuing to make strategic investments to best meet our customers’ needs,” said Pete Brown, INVISTA vice president of nylon polymer. “In looking at our forecast for the future growth of the nylon 6,6 polymer market, we see increased demand in Asia and are expanding our capacity to meet that demand.”

This project aligns with INVISTA’s other recent announcements regarding additional capacity in the nylon 6,6 value chain:

  • new adiponitrile (ADN) plant announced for China by 2023;
  • additional ADN capacity resulting from retrofits of INVISTA’s latest ADN technology at Butachimie, INVISTA’s joint venture with Solvay in France in 2019; and at INVISTA’s Victoria, Texas, site, targeted for 2020; and
  • ADN production records at INVISTA’s Orange, Texas, site.

Brown added, “We’ve invested more than $1 billion in the nylon 6,6 value chain in the past five years, have recently committed to investing $1 billion more and are continuing to evaluate the market for additional opportunities in the future.”

INVISTA also has a 215,000-ton hexamethylenediamine (HMD) plant at SCIP.

Hitachi Zosen Receives Order From China For Marimo® Rapid Fiber Filtration System: Our First For Sewage Treatment Plants Overseas

Ltd. for a Marimo® rapid fiber filtration system for a sewage treatment plant in Guangzhou, China. This is the first order for a Marimo® for an overseas sewage treatment plant.

About the Marimo® Rapid Fiber Filtration System

Marimo® is a filtration system for removing contaminants in waste water. The device is filled with a filtration media made from specially-processed polyester fibers, permitting increased filtration speeds over previous filtration systems, and allowing high-speed processing of sewage water and industrial waste water.

Initiatives related to Marimo® in China

Testing using Hitachi Zosen’s Marimo® is being conducted at a sewage treatment plant in Guangdong Province , from April 2017 to February 2019, under the model research program “advanced treatment of urban sewage,” organized as the special themed funding project for the development of scientific technology by the Kansai – Asia Environmental and Energy Saving Business Promotion Forum (Team E-Kansai; Chair Minoru Furukawa; supported by the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry) and the Guangdong Science and Technology.

In June 2018, Marimo® was selected as one of 3iPET Top 100 Technologies in the Third 3iPET Top 100 Environmental Protection Technologies Contest, organized by the International Platform for Environmental Technology, Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).

This current order is the result of Marimo®’s high water treatment performance as shown by the above.

Henchel brings 25 years of broad legal experience to the company, including more than ten years in the retail sector. KBS Fashion Group Limited Announces Police Uniform Supply Agreement With Taihu County Public Security Bureau

SHISHI, China — September 14, 2018 — KBS Fashion Group Ltd. (KBS), a fully-integrated casual menswear company in China, announced today its wholly-owned subsidiary Anhui Kaixin won a supply agreement with Anhui Province’s Taihu County Public Security Bureau for police uniforms thanks to the company’s well-recognized manufacturing capabilities and production quality. The ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® Certification Of Textile Chemicals

BÖNNIGHEIM, Germany — September 12, 2018 — As an accredited test laboratory with more than 1,000 staff worldwide, Hohenstein belongs to one of 18 institutes run by the OEKO-Tex® company and specialises in testing for toxic substances in textile products and textile components. Established two years ago, the ECO PASSPORT by Oeko-Tex certification serves to examine textile chemicals used as aids in production. The article details the certification process using the example of Total’s Lissolfix coning oil.

The Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certification

The Eco Passport certification, conducted exclusively by Hohenstein in Germany, supplements the existing Oeko-Tex certifications such as STANDARD 100
 by Oeko-Tex. For over 25 years, Standard 100 has been examining raw, intermediate and finished textile products for toxic substances and certifying textile products that pose no threat to health. The Eco Passport certification follows a two-step process to analyze whether dyes, equipment, aids and other chemicals used in textile production can be classified as safe. Coning oils used to texture yarns may obtain Eco Passport certification as production-specific aids.

The importance of the Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certification

Two years on from the certification’s introduction, the Oeko-Tex community has been able to certify more than 3000 products of over 400 customers worldwide.
The certification makes it easier for companies manufacturing and selling textiles in accordance with Standard 100 by Oeko-Tes to procure textile aids. It enables them to meet the market requirements for safe, non-toxic textiles, ensures that their textile-production staff are protected, help protecting the environment and the end consumer. For Total as an oil producer, the Eco Passport certification means one extra step to adapt to the industry’s requirements and offer eco-friendly oils in order to set itself apart from its competitors.

Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certification process

Hohenstein and the applicant work in close consultation throughout every stage of the certification. If possible, the applicant should have an existing quality-assurance system complying with ISO standards. The textile chemicals are tested in two to three stages at Hohenstein’s testing laboratory.

Stage I: Compliance screening

In the case of initial certifications, applicant queries are clarified before the application is lodged. Once the application has been checked, safety data sheets and the composition of the product to be certified are analysed and examinations conducted to determine whether any prohibited substances are used in production. If they are, the manufacturer is given an opportunity to adjust the composition accordingly. In the case of Total’s Lissolfix coning oils, no regulated substances are used meaning the composition did not need to be adjusted.

Stage II: Analytical verification

If there are no abnormalities during the initial test, a laboratory test is conducted comparing the components with the limit values regarding toxic substances in textile products. If, for example, the test specimen’s packaging has resulted in contaminants, a new test specimen may be sent to the laboratory for examination. The parameters of the examination vary according to the product. In the case of Total’s Lissolfix APZX 1350 / 1500 / 4800 coning oils, the test specimen was checked for parameters such as heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates, and chlorinated, organotin and volatile organic compounds.

Stage III: Sustainability check

The summer of 2018 sees a third stage added to the process. In the interests of sustainability, this stage will address environmental protection and OHS and involves on-site checks at the producer’s premises. It will initially only be conducted at the applicant’s request.

Validity of the Eco Passport certification by Oeko-Tex

The Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certification is valid for one year. Extensions may be requested no earlier than three months prior to the certification’s expiry. This will involve re-assessment of the documents and a simplified laboratory test in order to ensure quality has remained consistent. The toxins’ limit values or the textile chemicals’ production conditions may also have changed in the meantime, necessitating another test to meet the requirements. If changes are made to the certified product during the certification’s validity period, the certificate holder is obliged to report the change and, if necessary, provide a new test specimen for testing. As an oil manufacturer for the industry, Total is one of the first providers of coning oils to have its Lissolfix APZX 1350 / 1500 / 4800 products certified, and is already planning additional Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certifications.
