Dimension-Polyant Presents Its Durable X-Pac® Fabric Collection At SHOT Week Supplier Showcase

PUTNAM, Conn. — January 12, 2022 — Dimension-Polyant, sailcloth producer and manufacturer of X-Pac® lightweight, durable and 100 percent waterproof laminates developed for packs and bags, will introduce its range of X-Pac® fabrics targeting the shooting sports, hunting and tactical markets at the Supplier Showcase taking place on January 17-18, 2022 during SHOT Show week in Las Vegas.

At its show booth #51441, Dimension-Polyant will highlight specific, including Tactical and Berry Amendment compliant, fabrics from the X-Pac X3 collection of laminates that feature its distinctive X-PLY® fiber reinforcement technology for an innovative three-layer construction that’s rugged, flexible and 100 percent waterproof. A lighter-weight polyester film backing provides a sleek, technical appearance.

Built with the toughest conditions in mind, the highlighted Supplier Showcase X-Pac laminates include:

  • X50: Utilizes a rugged 500d Cordura® nylon face fabric for highly abrasion-resistant, tear-resistant waterproof material. Available in Black.
  • X50 Camouflage: X50 construction with a 500d Cordura® nylon face fabric in a traditional Multicam® and new Woodland Camo. Colors include Multicam® Black, Multicam® Alpine, Multicam Tropic, and Woodland Camouflage.
  • X50 Tactical:  X50 construction featuring a Cordura nylon face fabric elevated to tactical status with a 400d aramid X-PLY, which is lighter-weight, stronger and more abrasion-resistant. Colors include Black, Stealth Grey, Coyote Brown, Ranger Green, Khaki, and Woodland Camouflage.

“We have some great brand partners in the tactical space who use X-Pac because of its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, durability and waterproofness — also because X-Pac® is laminated in the USA and our tactical products are Berry Amendment compliant,” said Taylor North, head of Technical Fabrics, Dimension-Polyant. “We hope that being at the SHOT Show will raise awareness of X-Pac in this market.”

“Stone Glacier has been using X-Pac in our backpack designs since the first prototypes in 2011. The blend of weight savings, durability, and waterproofness has proven to be a great match for our US-made backpack frames and bags,” said Kurt Racicot, Founder and Lead Designer, Stone Glacier. “Our packs using X-Pac fabrics have proven themselves in some of the most rugged and brutal environments, from the glaciers of Alaska to the deserts of the Southwest for over 10 years with great results.”

Dimension-Polyant minimizes its environmental impact by producing the highest quality and long-lasting materials to help keep products out of the landfill. Last fall, the company introduced its X-Pac RX 3-layer laminates made with a 100 percent post-consumer polyester face fabric and X-PLY reinforcement. The recycled polyester fiber is made from discarded PET bottles sourced in the USA. The RX line of sustainable fabrics, made in Dimension-Polyant’s Putnam, Conn., facility, are certified cradle-to-gate climate neutral and carry the company’s cleenTEC® seal.

The company’s Putnam and Kempen, Germany, production facilities have been 100 percent climate-neutral since early 2021. Carbon emissions have been recorded within the DIN ISO 50001 framework and significantly reduced through the use of green electricity, green gas and other measures. All remaining emissions are being reduced by our climate offset program in corporation with ClimatePartner and its Plastic Free Oceans climate protection project.

Colombiatex: The First 2022 Trade Show For Italian Textile Machines

MILAN — January 12, 2022 — For the textile machinery industry 2022 opens with the resumption of physical trade shows. It will be the next Colombiatex de las Américas, the main Colombian textile trade event, which will take place in Medellin from January 25-27, to open the new year. And Italian textile machinery sector will once again play a leading role in Colombia with a large presence. 19 Italian textile machinery manufacturer will be exhibiting in the exhibition area organized by Italian Trade Agency and ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Manufacturers of Textile Machinery.

The following ACIMIT member companies will be in this area: Bonino, Btsr, Color Service, Crosta, Fadis, Flainox, Kairos, Mactec, Mcs, Nexia, Ratti, Reggiani, Santoni, Savio, Smit, Sperotto Rimar and Tonello.

“For years, the Colombian market has been one of the main South American destinations for Italian textile machinery exports,” confirmed Alessandro Zucchi, president of ACIMIT.  “The development of a national fashion sector makes the demand for advanced textile technologies by Colombian companies even more dynamic.”

Italian exports to the important South American market in the first nine months of 2021 reached a value of 9.3 million euros, in strong growth — more than 130 percent — not only compared to the value recorded last year, but also to that of 2019. More than half of the demand for Italian machinery in Colombia refers to finishing machines.

The presence at Colombiatex of Italian companies with their own personnel is a further sign of confidence for the beginning of 2022. “Compared to previous editions of the event, we note a greater number of Italian exhibitors, although the health emergency is far from over and there is great uncertainty characterizing the world economic scenario (due to the considerable increase in the cost of raw materials and shipping, the scarcity of electronic components, etc.),” Zucchi noted. “The Italian companies exhibiting in Medellin testify to the optimism with which the entire Italian textile machinery industry is looking towards this 2022 year”.

Kelheim Fibres Publishes Sustainability Report

ZUG, Switzerland— January 12, 2022 — Kelheim Fibres, a manufacturer of viscose speciality fibers, has published its first Sustainability Report. Sustainability Manager Timo Thunitgut is very pleased to have reached this milestone. “Credibility and trust are based on transparency. Our Sustainability Report according to the framework of the UN Global Compact follows these principles and presents our actions fully transparently,” Thunitgut said. “It shows how we as a company live up to our responsibility for people and the environment; it reveals our contribution to combating one of the biggest global problems of our time — the increasing waste problem caused by disposable plastic products — with our biodegradable fibers.”

As part of its EMAS certification, the company has already been publishing an annual environmental statement since 2020, in which all relevant environmental data are available to the public. The Sustainability Report, which will also be published annually, goes one step further here — it covers not only the company’s environmental performance, but also Corporate Social Responsibility as a whole.

Following this approach, the fibre experts have also created a new structure internally, which gives even more weight to the area of CSR: In future, all sustainability topics will be centrally integrated in the new CSR department (formerly HSE, Health, Safety & Environment) under the leadership of Wolfgang Ott.

“Responsible corporate behaviour is and will increasingly become a relevant competitive differentiator,” said Ott. “By bundling all CSR aspects in one department, our CSR performance, a topic that has been firmly anchored in our philosophy for years, will gain even more visibility and impact.”

Spotlight On Econtrol® At VDMA Webtalk

Jonas Beisel

MONCHENGLADBACH, Germany — January 11, 2022 — Monforts textile technologist Jonas Beisel will outline the benefits of the company’s Econtrol® continuous dyeing process during the next free-to-attend VDMA Textile Machinery Webtalk which takes place on February 3, 2022 at 13.00 (CET).

Based on special production conditions, Econtrol® is the most innovative continuous dyeing process introduced in recent decades.

“Our customers are increasingly looking at shorter production runs and the more economical use of dyestuffs, as well as reducing water and energy consumption,” says Beisel. “We have gained many years of experience in the optimisation of dyeing processes through working with our customers, both at their own plants and in our Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Reliability

“Our Thermex universal hotflue for continuous dyeing, curing and thermosoling achieves unrivalled reliability even at high fabric speeds, for exceptional cost-effectiveness when dyeing both large and small batches of woven fabrics. The Econtrol® process for reactive dyestuffs now has an impressive number of references on the market, as a quick and economical one-pass pad-dry and wash off process. This is the ideal process for fast change technology and operational savings.”

Among key benefits are the saving of resources compared to conventional continuous dyeing methods, excellent reproducibility of pale to dark shades, from lab to bulk, and greater flexibility in production planning due to a resulting dry fabric that does not need an immediate wash off.

Econtrol® is a registered trademark of DyStar® Colours Distribution GmbH, Germany, and Bertram Seuthe of DyStar® will be providing recommendations for dyes and auxiliaries for the process during the VDMA event.

A third speaker, Guido Seiler of Fong’s Europe, will explain how Goller washing ranges help to significantly reduce the water that is conventionally wasted in the washing off process, through a combination of process and chemistry know-how and advanced technologies.

Quick and easy registration for the event is available here: https://en.industryarena.com/vdma-textile-machinery/webinar/1373899386.

European Cooperation For The Production Of Oxide Ceramic Fibers

Meeting for the signing of the contract at DITF in Denkendorf (left to right): Dr. Erik Frank (1), Dr. Panagiotis Karagiozidis (2), Peter Steiger (1), Dr. Bernd Clauß (1), Dr. Nicolas Miègeville (3), Dr. Stephanie Pfeifer (1), Dr. Yves Boussant-Roux (3), Prof. Dr. Michael Buchmeiser (1) where (1) is the German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF), (2) is ProGloTex GmbH and (3) is Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials. DENKENDORF, Germany — January 11, 2022 — The German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF) have signed an agreement with Saint-Gobain Ceramics (France) on cooperation and joint development in the field of metal oxide ceramic fibers.

Saint-Gobain is a French group listed on the stock exchange, that designs, manufactures and distributes materials and solutions for the construction and other industrial application markets. The companies united under its umbrella employ approximately 167,000 people with annual sales of over 38 billion euros. Saint-Gobain is represented in 72 countries worldwide. Saint-Gobain is, among other things, a manufacturer of innovative ceramic materials and products in its Ceramics Business Unit.

The cooperation aims at jointly creating, ultimately, the production of metal oxide ceramic fibers in Europe.

At DITF, research and development in the field of ceramic fibers has been carried out continuously since 1990, so that extensive and well-founded know-how exists. The results and status of the research have been presented in a number of scientific publications and at various international conferences, which drew the attention of several companies to the research results and expertise of the DITF. After an extensive evaluation and negotiations with several potential partners, Saint-Gobain emerged as the ideal collaboration partner due to the complementary expertise of the two partners.

Metal oxide ceramic fibers are an essential component of fiber-reinforced ceramic materials (CMC: Ceramic Matrix Composites), which are increasingly important for a wide range of high-temperature applications. Fiber reinforcement produces a damage-tolerant ceramic material that is no longer brittle and is superior to monolithic ceramics, making it highly desirable from a technical and commercial point of view. Potential applications include components in industrial furnaces, charge carriers for temperature treatment and, in the high-tech sector, components in high efficiency stationary gas turbines, lower fuel consumption aircraft gas turbines and in space applications. A significant increase in the industrial use of CMCs is forecast for the coming years, and with it, a growing demand for ceramic fibers.
