MEMPHIS, Tenn. — August 13, 2025 — The National Cotton Council (NCC) and the National Cotton Ginners Association (NCGA) welcome the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new guidance regarding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) systems, as announced by Administrator Lee Zeldin.

“We appreciate the EPA and the entire administration for addressing the issues of and providing support to small businesses and farmers,” said NCC Chairman Patrick Johnson.

“This common-sense fix for DEF systems means more productivity in the field and less worry about unexpected breakdowns. The actions taken by EPA to protect diesel equipment operators from sudden speed and power losses caused by DEF systems will certainly benefit the cotton industry.”

This guidance aligns with the NCC’s long-standing advocacy for practical solutions that support both environmental stewardship and the economic viability of U.S. agriculture.

Oerlikon Textile Inc.: Crimper Repair Workshop Begins Operations

INDA Provided Nonwovens Education At The 2025 NCSL Legislative Summit

CARY, N.C. — August 14, 2025 — INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, recently attended the 2025 NCSL Legislative Summit hosted in Boston, Massachusetts. Wes Fisher, Director of Government Affairs, and Kevin Conroy, Senior Manager of Government Affairs, connected with hundreds of state legislators, their staff, international delegates, and many who visited INDA’s booth amongst the thousands of attendees.

Attendees were eager to learn more about flushability, the California Collection Study, the ins and outs of the nonwovens industry, the federal WIPPES Act, and state legislation on wipes. Wes and Kevin provided hands-on demonstrations and educational discussions to help policymakers understand how nonwoven products are made, used, and regulated — and the importance of accurate wipes labeling for consumers and the environment. This year marked the second time in recent years that INDA has exhibited at the event.

Eastman And Huafon Chemical To Establish Local Cellulose Acetate Yarn Manufacturing Facility In China

Gildan And HanesBrands Agree To Combine To Create A Global Basic Apparel Leader

Rieter Card C 80: Optimized Cost-Performance Ratio

The C 80 produces up to 120 kilograms per hour, far exceeding the output of previous models.

After installing three Rieter cards C 80, Chuzhou Jinshangjia Yarn Industry Co. Ltd. saw its cost-performance ratio improve. The China-based spinning mill, which is based in Anhui Province, values the C 80 for its high stability, remarkable production efficiency and long service life. The superior sliver quality with up to 82-percent fewer neps ensures excellent end spinning performance and delivers a yarn quality that its downstream customers appreciate greatly.

Jinshangjia pursues the twin goals of increasing production while keeping sliver quality high. With around 100,000 spindles the company produces 55 tons of Ne 16 to 26 carded compact yarn per day. Previously, the company used the Rieter cards C 72 with a production rate of 80 kilogram per hour (kg/h). To achieve higher capacity without using more space, Jinshangjia tested different solutions and finally chose the C 80. Today they produce up to 120 kg/h sliver per card. Neps were reduced by up to 82 percent during the carding process. The C 80 helps handle higher order volumes and supports the company’s goal of improving both yarn quality and cost efficiency.

Gu Jinguo, general manager of Chuzhou Jinshangjia, reports the company appreciates the superior sliver quality that ensures excellent spinning performance.

Features For Better Performance

The card C 80 has the largest active carding area, which improves fiber opening and cleaning. It has 40 active flats and precise carding gap settings, leading to high sliver quality and finally to more efficient spinning. Energy efficiency is another advantage. The improved drive system and suction technology lower energy consumption while keeping output high. The modular design reduces maintenance and machine downtime.

Crowley’s Fourth Avance Class Vessel, Torogoz, Begins Maiden Commercial Voyage

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — August 12, 2025 — Crowley’s latest Avance Class ship, Torogoz, began its inaugural commercial service on Tuesday, departing from Port Everglades, Florida, to serve Central America. The vessel’s commencement is a capstone on the company’s initiation of the four-vessel, Avance Class containership fleet.

Crowley’s fourth Avance Class LNG-powered vessel, Torogoz, begins service.

With a capacity of 1,400 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), including 300 refrigerated containers, the ship is specifically designed and equipped to quickly and frequently deliver cargo, including apparel, fresh produce, food products, pharmaceuticals and textiles, between the United States and El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Torogoz, like the other Avance class vessels, is powered by lower-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG), advancing the company’s next era of faster, frequent ocean shipping that reduces impacts at sea and at port.

“Bringing Torogoz into service to complete the landmark introduction of our Avance Class fleet marks a major milestone in Crowley’s commitment to bringing efficient logistics solutions to customers in Central America and the Caribbean Basin,” said Vice President Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Crowley Logistics for Central America, Panama and Mexico. “Because of Torogoz’s capacity for diverse dry and refrigerated goods, Crowley can provide faster, high-capability service with reliability that is unmatched in the trade.”

The Torogoz follows the operation of its sister ships: Tiscapa, Quetzal and Copán.  All four of the Avance Class ships are named to honor the cultural aspects of Central America, where Crowley has operated shipping and logistics services for more than 60 years.

Torogoz, also known as a turquoise-browed motmot, is the national bird of El Salvador. Revered by Mayan and other Mesoamerican civilizations, the bird has likely lived on the continent for thousands of years and has long held spiritual significance in the region.
