INDA Co-Organizes 2nd Edition CiNE 2017: China International Nonwovens Expo & Forum To Be Held June 21-23

CARY, N.C. — January 27, 2017 – INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, announces it will coorganize the second edition of the China International Nonwovens Expo & Forum (CiNE). This second biennial edition will be held June 21-23, 2017, in Shanghai, China.

The China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association (CNITA), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade’s Sub-Council of Textile Industry (CCPIT-TEX), and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. join as coorganizers of this global event. The 2015 CiNE show attracted over 4,800 visitors with 85 exhibits displaying the latest technologies and innovations.

This year’s event will attract thousands of multinationals who supply raw materials, machinery and equipment, nonwovens roll or matt goods as well as converters, brand owners, and consultants. The strength of this event is its sole focus on nonwovens and engineered materials giving a unique platform for those organizations doing business in China or looking to do business in China.

AmeriPride Earns EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Certification For Superior Energy Efficiency

MINNEAPOLIS — January 30, 2017 — AmeriPride’s Minnetonka headquarters at 10801 Wayzata Blvd and its Minneapolis office at 650 Industrial Drive have both earned Energy Star certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The certification signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

“We’re pleased to receive this recognition for the energy saving measures we have taken at our local offices,” said Bill Evans, President and CEO at AmeriPride. “From our corporate headquarters to our many plants and facilities across North America, we are committed to clean operations while striving to reduce our impact on the environment.”

Commercial buildings that earn ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. AmeriPride improved its energy performance by making cost-effective improvements to its office buildings, such as adding LED lighting, building a hot isle containment system around its data center servers, installing high efficiency VFD monitors to operate its HVAC systems and utilizing automatic shut off systems for computers and lighting.

This local effort is part of a larger, company-wide sustainability program. Some of the additional initiatives the company has been implementing across North America include: heat reclamation systems, solar power, mat and paper recycling, alternative fuel delivery vehicles and water conservation. Agencies Reject Report Linking Linens, Disease In UPMC Mold Case

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — January 30, 2017 — State and federal health officials last week reaffirmed their earlier findings that cleared linens in the 2015 and 2016 deaths of five immune-compromised University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) patients, despite a report for UPMC circulated to media outlets by a plaintiffs’ lawyer who is suing UPMC and Paris Cos., DuBois, Pa., on charges of causing the fatal infections in two cases.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health (PaDOH) pointed to the lack of evidence to implicate linens as a source of mold that infected the patients, who were already critically ill. Both agencies stated they would not investigate further.

TRSA Hygienically Clean Healthcare certification requires initial and ongoing quarterly microbiological testing. In addition, yeast and mold activity levels are determined.

 

Hygienically Clean Healthcare standards for processing linens and garments require inspection to verify laundries’ commitment to best management practices (BMPs) plus this microbial testing to quantify hygiene of clean textiles produced. Certification confirms a laundry’s dedication to compliance and BMPs as described in its quality assurance documentation (QA). The standard calls for a supplemental second inspection during a facility’s three-year certification period.

The TRSA Hygienically Clean Healthcare Advisory Board, Healthcare Committee, and Hygienically Clean Users Groups are aware of the report and litigation, and will be reviewing all Hygienically Clean Healthcare policies and procedures, including testing and inspection.

The study referenced by plaintiffs’ attorneys did not significantly measure clean linen contamination at the Paris facility or the hospital, nor did it directly link any linen to patients.

Lectra Equips Kolon Industries With Three Focusquantum® To Ramp Up Capacity In Global Airbag Market

PARIS — January 26, 2017 — Lectra supports Kolon Industries in its bid to capture a larger share of the growing cut-and-sew and one-piece woven airbag markets with the implementation of FocusQuantum® laser cutting solutions, at two key manufacturing plants in Asia.

The chemical business unit of South Korea’s Kolon Group is expanding its presence in the global airbag market by acquiring three laser airbag cutting solutions: one for cut-and-sew fabric for its brand-new facility in Bình Dương Province, Vietnam, and two for one-piece woven (OPW) fabric at an existing site in Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.

Excitement For SPGPrints’ New 3200mm-Wide JAVELIN® And 700mm-Wide PIKE®Home Deco Printers At Heimtextil 2017

BOXMEER, Netherlands — January 26, 2017 — At Heimtextil 2017, SPGPrints presented the quality, fast time-to-market and cost-saving advantages of its digital inkjet technologies for varied home textile applications. Visitors were enthusiastic about the new 3,200-millimeter (mm)-wide JAVELIN® inkjet printer for bedlinen, curtains and upholstery that debuted at the show. There was also significant interest in the new 700-mm-wide PIKE® Decor printer, a digital solution for furniture and panel laminate applications. Also welcomed were high-quality conventional printing innovations, particularly the collection of SpecialScreen® screens for creating aesthetically and sensually appealing wallcovering effects.

In common with SPGPrints’ machine solutions for apparel applications, both the 3,200 mm Javelin and the Pike Decor printers feature the company’s unique Archer® technology for precise delivery of ink. With nozzles 5 mm from the substrate, a wider range of substrates can be run, with minimal chance of print head damage. The Javelin printer operates in scanning mode with an array of 36 Fujifilm Dimatix Samba print heads jetting ink in variable drop sizes (2 pL-10 pL) at resolutions of up to 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch. Thanks to its capability of delivering small drop sizes of highly concentrated inks, Archer technology combines very smooth gradations with a wider color gamut than the HD-gamut of other digital textile printing solutions using only six colors.

Home deco beyond textiles

SPGPrints also unveiled details of the new 700 mm-wide Pike700 Decor digital inkjet printer for laminates, which employs the same Archer technology as the PIKE printer for textiles and the Javelin printers. The Pike700 Decor printer for laminates uses a central impression cylinder with up to ten colors to apply graphic images, textures and protective coatings to laminates. These can be used to create a wide variety of effects including — among others — stone, wood, brick and ceramic tiles, to enable maximum creativity, cost-effectively. A wide range of protective coatings may be applied for gloss, matt, satin and silk effects, enhancing the printed images. Textures may also be added to create additional verisimilitude to furniture and other surfaces.

The Pike printer delivers the digital advantages of cost-effective short runs, fast changeovers, minimal waste, fast time-to-market, streamlined logistics, reduced stock-holding and warehousing.

Rotary screen printing remains an essential process for producing relief effects, especially for wallcovering. For this market, SPGPrints presented its SpecialScreen range of nickel rotary screens that combine high mesh-count with a large hole size, enabling fine and detailed printing with large paste particles, without risk of blockage. Samples showed how the SpecialScreen excelled at reproducing smooth tonal gradations, fine outline printing, as well as puff, tactile, glitter and reflective effects that offer enhanced aesthetic and sensual appeal.

The SpecialScreen programme, like all SPGPrints’ screens, offers high strength, durability, stability at high print speeds and the potential for high mesh-counts, thanks to their electroformed-nickel composition.

SPGPrints also unveiled its new inline embossing calender unit, for applying 3-D effects to PVC-coated substrates with minimal waste of material and time. Perfect embossing register with the printed design is achieved within 30 meters of the start of production and maintained throughout the run. iMaster Mini: First Time Right In Sampling = First Time Right In Production

COESFELD, Germany — January 26, 2017 — Fast and safe introductions of new textile products into operational production regularly provides textile finishers with challenges. The articles are introduced into production machines after a successfully-completed sample phase in the laboratory. In such cases deviations in the color and / or the colorfastness regularly occur, as do differences in the feel and volume of the textile products or changing appearances on the surface. Transfer of the functional parameters and settings from laboratory prototype equipment to the production machines are critical. This is because the machine types differ in equipment technology, in equipment design and in technical fittings. Pump sizes, liquor ratios, liquor volume, nozzle types and sizes generally differ very strongly in practice.

The Thies development team has developed the iMaster mini with this background.

The concept used in the iMaster H2O production machine, which is established worldwide, was consistently transferred to the iMaster mini.

The iMaster mini offers:

  • an identical liquor volume;
  • the same functions;
  • the same goods transport; and
  • a comparable liquor ratio.

As a result, the results for the iMaster mini, which has a capacity of between 20 and 80 kilograms (kg), are reproducible on the iMaster H2O production machine with its capacities of between 100 and 2000 kg. All wet treatment processes (pretreatment, bleaching, dyeing) in addition to efficient rinsing and cleaning processes at varying liquor ratios can be carried out. This enables flexible design of the treatment process and decreases the chemical consumption and the use of textile auxiliaries to a necessary minimum.

Infeed of dyes and chemicals takes place with the aid of the Smart Dose System from Thies, as in the case of the iMaster H2O. Dosing of the products can be set precisely to individual requirements thanks to the use of user-friendly program technology. Further advantages of the Smart Dose System are the reduced dosing times and improved equalities.

An additional tank fitted with a dry salt injector is provided for the addition of powdery substances such as Glauber salt. At the beginning of the batch the substance is manually filled into the additional tank. Transfer into the equipment takes place automatically without the machine operator having to intervene further.

It should be underlined that the iMaster mini can be operated with the same nozzle types used by the iMaster H2O production machine. The nozzles can even be exchanged between the machines if required.

The standard fittings provided on the iMaster mini also include the proven 100-percent batching tank. The treatment used in the downstream process can therefore be prepared in parallel. The transfer time for a bath changeover reduces considerably, time savings of up to 22 percent can be achieved.

An automatic filter system is fitted to the iMaster mini liquor circulation as for the iMaster H2O.  This continually frees the treatment liquor of fluff and contaminants. The filter is cleaned automatically. Process-related monitoring of the filter contamination was developed in this context. Automated detection of an increased degree of contamination in the filter basket initiates the cleaning process. Manual cleaning of the filter after or before every batch is no longer required.

The iMaster mini can be operated with a filling capacity from a nominal 20 kg up to 80 kg. The machine’s fully automatic loading adaptation enables this variability.

The iMaster mini’s functional scope can optionally be extended using all existing monitoring and measuring systems. All the extensions are used to analyze the processes more transparently and optimize them if necessary. Rinsing, washing and dying vats are measured online, analyzed continuously and presented graphically.

If required the iMaster mini, and also the production equipment, can be fitted with the newly-developed T380 control unit. This control unit processes complex functions and provides a web interface. The T380 is fitted with a so-called program designer. Individual functions in the form of graphic elements can be quickly arranged using drag-and-drop to create a dyeing program.

Further features in the new control unit include a high-resolution 12-inch touchscreen display in addition to a QuadCore processor and a Gigabit ethernet connection.

An iMaster mini and an iMaster H2O are available for trials to all those interested in the company’s technical center at the main office in Coesfeld. Comparison dyeing processes clarify the reproducibility between the two machine types. Furthermore, a range of possibilities for wastewater treatment, dosing and dye solution technology can be tested on site.
