Prysmian Group Wins Contract To Supply Optical Fiber To Tratos Cavi

MILAN, Italy — April 18, 2017 – Prysmian Group — an energy and telecom cable systems company — and Tratos — an Italy-based manufacturer of fiber optic and copper telecom cables, and energy and special cables — have signed a contract for the annual supply of Prysmian’s standard and special optical fiber to Tratos. The fiber will be manufactured at Prysmian’s FOS — Fibre Ottiche Sud — plant in Battipaglia, which every year produces 9 of the approximately 35 million kilometers of fiber manufactured by the group overall.

Tratos will use the fiber in its cables for the development of ultra-broadband and FTTH networks in Italy and abroad.

The volumes to be supplied are expected to increase in the coming years, driven by greater needs generated by the Italian government’s plans to develop an ultra-broadband network. The growth prospects for the broadband network in Italy are very positive, thanks to investments in FTTH and next-generation technologies (5G) by both the companies operating in this industry and the Ministry of Economic Development. In addition, the European Commission’s Digital Agenda 2025 sets the goal for 2025 of connections of at least one Gigabit per second for all schools, libraries, research centers and public administration offices, uninterrupted 5G coverage in all urban areas and for all European households, and connections that offer download speeds of at least 100 Mbps in rural and urban areas, which can be upgraded to Gigabit speeds. Consequently, in the long term fiber optic networks appear to be the only possible technological solution to achieve these ambitious targets.

“This contract represents an important collaboration between the two major Italian firms producing passive telecommunications components,” explained Carlo Scarlata, Chief Commercial Officer at Prysmian Cavi e Sistemi Italia. “This is a way for Italy to show that it can act independently in building the infrastructure needed to achieve the European goals.”

Albano Bragagni, Chairman of Tratos, continued: “The agreement between our company and Prysmian Group is founded on a strong desire for an ongoing, long-term partnership, supported by the experience and mutual esteem built in the two companies’ more than 30-year relationship, with the aim of making a shared contribution to Italy’s digital development and growth.”

This agreement further emphasizes that Italy has the expertise and production capacity to develop broadband telecommunications network projects and shows how Italy’s technological capacities are fundamental to the development and increased competitiveness of both Italy and the rest of Europe.

All the products made by Karl Mayer are of highest quality and the result of ultra-modern production processes.

In 2014, Karl Mayer started a comprehensive investment program with the objective to align the company’s production section to the challenges of the future. Major aim of this program was the strengthening of the core competence: key components containing the manufacturer’s know-how, should be produced with highest efficiency. The answer was a comprehensive reorganization of the processes, modernization of the buildings and investments in a „state-of-the-art“ machine equipment. The costs for the renewal project amounted to roughly 8.5 million euros — but the investment has certainly paid off. Karl Mayer’s production facilities — equipped with automated machining centers of the latest generation, supplied by well-known manufacturers, and efficiently organized work processes — permit a glance already today at the industrial plant production of tomorrow.

In December 2016, Karl Mayer officially opened its new assembly hall which is a real factory of the future. The building is 13,500 m² state-of-the-art. The new assembly hall stands for consistent production line operation with four ultra-modern rail systems and the latest generation of handling solutions. In addition, the supply logistics have been optimized: component groups are now provided by the Fishbone principle and commonly used components are supplied from a central supermarket with small branches to the main assembly flow. Up to 2,500 machines per year can leave the assembly hall in the future.

Karl Mayer is looking forward to welcoming its Anlagenproduktion guests to the various events. For more information go to www.80yearskarlmayer.com

Ship & Shore Environmental Introduces Hydroflare Produced Water Evaporator

LONG BEACH, Calif. — April 18, 2017 — Ship & Shore Environmental Inc. today announced the introduction of Hydroflare, a first-to-market technology developed in partnership with Hydrozonix a leading water quality management company. The companies have joined forces in response to recent demand for a viable, efficient and long-term solution for managing water sourcing and wastewater treatment in hydraulic fracturing. This new technology evaporates and treats the “produced water” that oil and gas companies generate in the fracking process.

“The number of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) shale oil and gas wells in the US, and worldwide, continues to increase. Discharge of water from the fracking process to the ground creates many environmental problems. In addition, demands on fresh water supplies are mounting, as is the need to process the large volumes of produced wastewater. Companies in the oil and gas industry are under increasing pressure to control the produced water and field gas, so we partnered with Hydrozonix to develop a technology that finally provides a solution. And no solution like Hydroflare exists on the market today,” said Anoosheh Oskouian, President & CEO of Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc.

The US has vast reserves of oil and natural gas which now are commercially reachable as a result of advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies. But as more hydraulic fracturing wells come into operation, the stress on surface water and groundwater supplies grow more demanding. Withdrawing large volumes of water used in the process requires up to one million gallons (3,780 m3) of fresh water per wellhead to complete the fracking process alone.

In addition, the injection of produced water into disposal wells has negatively affected some areas. There have been recent incidents where the injection has induced earthquakes in Oklahoma and Ohio. As a result, some areas have placed restrictions on the injection of produced water into disposal wells. This has led to a lack of capacity and high disposal prices for produced water.

Hydroflare alleviates all of these issues. The new technology takes natural gases produced by the fracking process and uses it to provide energy to evaporate this produced wastewater. Ship & Shore Environmental and Hydrozonix have created a revolutionary solution that is long-term and efficient.

Techtextil 2017 Exhibitor Preview: BST ProControl

WENDEN, Germany — April 18, 2017 — At the Techtextil 2017 taking place in Frankfurt May 9-12, BST ProControl (Hall 3.0, booth D05) will focus on sensor for measurement and quality assurance of flat material webs. The company will inform their visitors about different sensors e.g. for basis weight or moisture measurement of technical textiles. So in Frankfurt BST ProControl will show two sensors, the X-Ray head and the transmission sensor IREX-TS. Both are installed on a traverse and enable reliable and non-contact measurement during the running production.

“Precision measurements of the basis weight are essential in the production of technical textiles, which are used in hygiene, automotive or geotextile industries. For example basis weights, moisture or layer thickness have to be determined reliably and continuously by using non-contact methods. Our x-rays and transmission sensors can achieve optimum results“, explains Kay Kuhlmann, Sales Manager at BST ProControl.

An important advantage of X-Ray (<5kV) head for precise basis weight measurement is the low radiation energy of less than 5 kV. The radiation load is very low outside of the sensor casing and it is also possible to switch off the X-Ray. The X-Ray <5kV is not subject to any special approval and thus it is not necessary to employ a radiation protection officer. The sensor is suitable for basis weight measurement on textiles, nonwovens, fiber material as well as plastic and paper.

The transmission sensor IREX-TS is an infrared sensor which is suitable for layer thickness and moisture measurement. This sensor works with optical multi wavelength analysis methods in the near and mid infrared range. For example, the sensor precisely measures the coating percentage on coated textiles. Moreover IREX-TS reliably determines the moisture of paper or light cardboard.

Both sensors will be operated on the traverse while the INDICON-XL software will capture, evaluate and visualize the measurement results in real time in the form of cross and longitudinal sections.

Special highlights are the intuitive operation and the customized configuration.
