Applied Manufacturing Technologies And FANUC To Highlight Collaborative Mixed-Load Handling At Automate 2026

Exhibiting within the FANUC booth (#1001), AMT will present a live collaborative robotic demonstration focused on mixed-load handling applications for warehouse, logistics, and manufacturing operations.

The demonstration will feature collaborative palletizing and depalletizing of mixed-case loads using a FANUC CRX collaborative robot integrated with AI-enabled vision and intelligent robot control software from Mujin. Developed by AMT and powered by FANUC collaborative robotics and MujinOS, the intelligent software platform, the application reflects growing demand for flexible automation in inbound logistics, warehouse flow management, 3PL operations, and high-mix distribution environments.

Warehouse operators and manufacturers continue to face labor shortages, ergonomic concerns, and increasing pressure to improve throughput while managing a wider mix of products and packaging configurations. Mixed-load palletizing and depalletizing applications present additional challenges because systems must adapt to changing box sizes, pallet patterns, and material flow requirements.

AMT developed the demonstration to show how collaborative robotic systems can support warehouse operations where flexibility, portability, and operator interaction are important considerations. The application also serves as an entry point for discussions around larger-scale automation strategies, including high-payload robotic palletizing systems, custom warehouse automation cells, and integrated material handling solutions.

Teijin Frontier To Expand Production Capacity For OCTAIR™ Insulation Fiber At Matsuyama Plant

TOKYO — May 18, 2026 — Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., part of the Teijin Group, today announced plans to install new equipment for manufacturing OCTAIR™ polyester insulation fiber at its Matsuyama Plant in Ehime Prefecture. This new equipment represents an investment of several hundred million yen. It will enable the company to expand capacity for OCTAIR™ products to meet increasing demand for high-performance alternatives to down insulation in apparel and bedding. Production using this equipment is scheduled to begin in March 2027.

OCTAIR™ insulation fiber features a unique, hollow, eight-fin cross-section with radiating protrusions. Its thermal insulation performance is equivalent to that of down of the same weight. It delivers desirable loft and light weight, thanks to the voids created by its unique structure. Furthermore, OCTAIR™ offers a supple, soft texture with dimensional stability, and it permits a smoother blowing-in process compared to conventional polyester fiberfill.

Worldwide demand for down alternatives has grown in recent years due to factors such as insufficient supplies of down and rising production costs. To address this situation, Teijin Frontier developed OCTAIR™ in 2024 and commenced test marketing. In response to further expected growth in demand, the company will implement mass production capabilities for several different OCTAIR™ materials, including products that incorporate polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibers or recycled polyester fibers.

The new pre-processing, spinning and drawing equipment will augment existing production capabilities to ensure stable and scalable supplies of OCTAIR™ insulation fiber. Production volume will start at several hundred tons per year and is planned to reach approximately 1,000 tons annually by 2030.

FESPA Pays Tribute To Former President And Board Member Anders Nilsson

Anders served as President of FESPA from 2007 to 2010 during a pivotal period of international growth and innovation for FESPA.

During Anders’ tenure, FESPA strengthened its position as a global federation by expanding its Association network in Asia and beyond. His commitment to broadening FESPA’s reach helped to lay the foundations for its sustained development as a global community for the speciality print sector.

FESPA also continued to direct its focus to emerging technologies and the changing needs of the print industry during Anders’ presidency, following the successful launch of FESPA Digital in 2006. Under his leadership, FESPA adapted to reflect the rapid advancement of digital printing technologies, which have reshaped wide format print production over the last two decades.

Anders was a FESPA Board Member for 21 years, from 2000 to 2021. Following his Presidency, he assumed the role of Asia Ambassador, actively networking with regional associations and partners to strengthen FESPA’s global presence.

Anders was also a central figure at FESPA Sweden, from 1994 to 2026. In 2023, he was honoured with the title Honorary Chair of FESPA Sweden, an award that reflected his long and significant service to the print industry.

Beyond his roles with FESPA, Anders was the respected CEO and owner of Gamleby Screen AB, a Swedish large format printing company. He was able to apply his deep understanding of the industry, as well as his commercial expertise, to his leadership of FESPA.

In addition to his professional achievements, those who worked alongside Anders remember him for his warm character. Anders was a big personality who took a genuine interest in colleagues and friends, and he formed lasting relationships across the FESPA community. His kind, approachable nature and sense of humour made him a popular and much-loved figure.

He will therefore continue to push for a stronger business environment for textile companies, with support for investment in automation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, skills and innovation, especially for SMEs.

  1. A genuine level playing field

A second key priority is to ensure that the same rules apply to everything sold in Europe, not only to what is made in Europe. Mario Jorge Machado has repeatedly called for stronger market surveillance, better border enforcement and more effective control of imports sold through digital platforms, so that European companies are not put at a disadvantage against products that bypass EU safety, environmental and consumer rules. EURATEX will continue to advocate for equal enforcement, fair competition and a market where compliance is rewarded.

  1. Supporting industry through the transition

Mario Jorge Machado also wants to ensure that the green and digital transition strengthens European industry rather than weakening it. He has underlined that sustainability must become a source of competitiveness, not a burden, and that companies need realistic rules, affordable energy, workable implementation and targeted support to adapt successfully. Textile Exchange Releases New Life Cycle Assessment Study To Increase Understanding Of Polyester’s Environmental Impact

LONDON — June 11, 2026 — Textile Exchange has published its new polyester Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study, providing robust, accurate, and credible data to strengthen the fashion, textile, and apparel industry’s understanding of the impacts of different types of polyester production.

The study is the second in a series of LCA studies led by Textile Exchange and addresses key gaps and limitations in the LCA data currently available for polyester.

It includes what is believed to be the first known publicly available data on the environmental impacts of virgin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production from Southeast Asia—where over half of the world’s virgin PET is produced.1 The study also identifies major impact hotspots for different production processes to inform where impact reductions are most needed, adding new data on both thermomechanical and chemical recycling technologies.

Like all Textile Exchange LCA studies, it takes a holistic “LCA+” approach, in this case including an assessment of the human rights impacts associated with polyester production.

As with all LCA data, comparisons should not be made between studies or between datasets within individual studies, such as production systems or regions.

Textile Exchange’s cotton LCA study was published in March this year, with further studies being released throughout 2026 and 2027.

Beth Jensen, Chief Impact Officer at Textile Exchange, said: “This LCA study marks a significant update to existing polyester LCA data and advances our understanding of the impacts of its production for the fashion, textile, and apparel industry. By addressing known data gaps across both virgin and recycled polyester, and by identifying major hotspot impact areas, these findings create a stronger foundation for making informed decisions that support the shift toward preferred production systems.”

“Traditionally, recycled production systems within the textile industry have focused primarily on the recycling plant itself. By taking an “LCA+” approach, this study enables a greater understanding of the significant social impact and vast network that exists before the recycler. To design a successful lower impact recycling system, it needs to protect and support the livelihoods of all people throughout the value chain.”

About the Textile Exchange polyester LCA study

All Textile Exchange LCA studies use a cradle-to-gate approach. For polyester, the study assesses impacts from resource extraction through to fiber formation.

The study focuses on virgin polyester production in Southeast Asia and recycled polyester production in China, Europe, and the United States. It includes the following impact categories and indicators in the main body of the report:

  • Climate change (global warming potential of greenhouse gas emissions)
  • Acidification (acidifying effects in soil, water, and ecosystems)
  • Eutrophication (excessive richness of nutrients in a lake or other body of water, frequently due to runoff from the land, which causes a dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen)
  • Abiotic depletion (consumption and reduction of non-living natural resources, such as minerals and fossil fuels)
  • Freshwater ecotoxicity (biological, chemical, or physical stressors that affect freshwater ecosystems)
  • Water scarcity (water consumption considering local water availability)
  • Freshwater consumption (volume of freshwater consumed)

However, all 16 indicators recommended in the European Commission Environmental Footprint 3.1 database reference package are also included in the analysis.

Key findings

  • How polyester is produced strongly influences its environmental impact. Depending on the technology, key hotspots include the production of virgin fossil fuel-based (petrochemical) inputs, waste collection and sorting (for recycled polyester only), energy use, and transport.
    • For virgin polyester: The production of the main petrochemicals used to make virgin polyester (particularly monoethylene glycol (MEG), purified terephthalic acid (PTA), and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT)) is the dominant contributor to most impact categories. The energy sources used for electricity and heat and their associated emissions are another major contributor.
    • For thermomechanical recycling: Electricity use and feedstock collection, especially when waste materials must travel long distances to processing facilities, are two major hotspots for climate change, acidification, eutrophication, and abiotic depletion of fossil fuels.
    • For chemical recycling: The two largest environmental hotspots were found to be energy consumption for electricity and heat, based on the sources and their associated emissions, and the use of input chemicals used in the recycling process, including solvents like methanol.
  • Human rights impacts: The social assessment found that polyester production can have serious impacts on workers and surrounding communities, including unsafe working conditions, labor rights violations, and gender-based violence. Impacts also include violence by law enforcement against local communities in efforts to secure access to oil and gas extraction sites around the world, as well as severe health impacts linked to accidental spills and pollution.
  • For recycling, both PET plastic bottles and textile-to-textile supply chains are often informal and poorly regulated, which can lead to human rights impacts. However, the textile-to-textile recycling supply chain in particular holds the potential to provide meaningful solutions to help tackle the world’s textile waste crisis.

Key action points

  • The LCA study identifies virgin fossil-based inputs as the largest contributor to environmental impact in virgin PET production. This underscores that reducing—and ultimately eliminating—reliance on virgin fossil-based inputs is a critical lever for driving impact reduction, as laid out in Textile Exchange’s Principles of Preferred Production Systems.
  • Complementary measures, such as increasing renewable energy use and sourcing waste locally to minimize transport emissions, play an important role in further reducing impacts—particularly within recycled systems.
  • The findings also reinforce the key actions brands and retailers should take to support recycling technologies, including investing in post-consumer collection, sorting technologies, and enabling infrastructure.
  • For human rights, the study highlights the importance of looking beyond labor rights to consider the full spectrum of human rights when assessing impacts on people. Companies should work toward full traceability of their polyester supply chains by engaging with supply chain actors and progressively mapping upstream to the origin.

Submission to industry databases

As with all the Textile Exchange LCA studies, the data will be submitted to industry databases for broad accessibility and useability.

The data is primarily intended to serve as proxy data, in cases where source-specific LCA data is not available. It is designed to provide a credible, consistent foundation for understanding the impacts of polyester production and to inform data-driven action toward preferred production systems.

Responsible use of LCA data

Textile Exchange’s LCA studies are designed to improve data integrity for each specific fiber or material. They all include fully documented assumptions, methodological decisions, limitations, and underlying datasets, ensuring transparency and enabling consistent use.

Each study has been led by a consultant with expertise in both LCA methodology and the specific raw material or fiber production system being assessed. They have been critically reviewed by independent expert panels, and each assessment also conforms to ISO standards.

As with all LCA data, comparisons should not be made between studies or between datasets within individual studies, such as production systems or regions. The findings in all LCA studies are sensitive to methodological choices, assumptions, and boundaries. The same dataset can produce different results when applied within different methods.

It provides guidance on how LCA data should be used, and—equally importantly—how it should not be used. NCTO Applauds House Textile Caucus-Led Letter Urging DHS To Combat Textile Customs Fraud And Institute A Comprehensive Enforcement Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 10, 2026 — The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), spanning the entire spectrum of U.S. textiles from fiber to finished sewn products, issued a statement today applauding a House Textile Caucus-led letter urging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to strengthen customs enforcement and combat widespread fraud that is harming American textile manufacturers.

“Unfortunately, for decades, the American textile industry has suffered greatly from customs fraud and abuse by foreign competitors and organized crime,” the bipartisan group of House lawmakers state in a letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “Our trade policies and tariff structures are only as effective as their enforcement. As you begin your role as Secretary, we urge you to review and ensure the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is properly oriented and outfitted to fully enforce our customs laws.”

The letter, led by House Textile Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. David Rouzer (R-NC) and Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), was signed by 14 additional House lawmakers. They further call on DHS to “develop and institute a comprehensive textile enforcement program” that includes: revoking trade privileges, publicly listing and instituting stronger penalties for repeat offenders; increased audits, lab testing and verification of free trade agreement claims; and timely publication of enforcement statistics.

First Graphene Limited Accelerates USA Expansion & Defence Sector Exposure With Strategic Acquisition Of MITO® Material Solutions

SYDNEY — June 3, 2026 — First Graphene Limited (“First Graphene” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce that it has entered a binding Sale Agreement (“Agreement”) to acquire all product lines, manufacturing equipment and intellectual property of MITO® Material Solutions, Inc (“MITO”).

Importantly, the acquisition will expand First Graphene’s capability to functionalise graphite, graphene and graphene oxide — increasingly important materials used across a broad range of commercial and defence applications to enhance the performance of advanced material additives.

The agreement includes acquiring MITO’s E-GO®, LIGRA™, OMEGA and DELTA product lines, which represent a suite of thermoset, thermoplastic, composite materials, coatings, liquids, resins and nanomaterial additives.

FGR accelerates strategic expansion into the United States

The acquisition represents a strategic step for FGR, significantly broadening the Company’s technology platform beyond high-performance graphene powders and dispersions into advanced graphene oxide, hybrid graphene additives and functionalised nanomaterial technologies.

Importantly, the acquisition also establishes FGR with a direct operational and commercial platform within the USA, enhancing access to the world’s largest defence and advanced materials market, positioning the Company to pursue new areas for revenue growth, customer penetration and strategic partnerships.

Expanding defence and aerospace opportunities

The acquisition, by creating an operating presence in the USA, enhances FGR’s exposure to emerging USA defence and aerospace opportunities involving graphene enhanced technologies.

Functionalised graphene and graphene oxide technologies are increasingly recognised as critical enabling materials across aerospace and defence applications due to their ability to improve interfacial bonding, mechanical performance, conductivity, durability and multifunctionality.

Recent US Department of Defence and DARPA1 initiatives have increasingly focused on lightweight graphene enhanced composite structures, thermal management systems, advanced energy materials and next-generation survivability materials.

FGR’s acquisition of MITO builds directly on the Company’s materials portfolio with potential defence applications, including perovskite solar technologies for endurance drones through the Company’s partnership with Halocell, mechanically strengthened composites, carbon fibre technologies and advanced conductive and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) shielding additive systems.

Proven products with established US customers

MITO’s products are already deployed by multiple premium USA brands seeking advanced material performance enhancements, including Parlor Skis, Folsom Custom Skis and St. Croix Rods.

Parlor Skis uses MITO’s graphene enhanced E-GO® technology to improve the strength-to-weight ratio, responsiveness and durability of high-performance custom skis. Graphene enhanced composite systems reduce weight while maintaining structural stiffness and vibration damping, key performance attributes in high end ski hardware.

Folsom Custom Skis incorporates MITO’s graphene technologies to improve composite laminate performance, delivering increased durability, enhanced flex control and improved energy transfer characteristics for high-performance ski applications.

St. Croix Rods utilises graphene enhanced additive systems to improve sensitivity, strength and lightweight performance in fishing rods. Graphene enhanced materials assist in improving toughness and responsiveness while reducing overall product weight.

MITO’s customer portfolio validates the commercial applicability of its functionalisation technologies in demanding real-world applications where performance advantages are critical.

These applications can apply directly into large scale industrial and defence opportunities.

Under the Agreement the acquisition will be completed for a cash-stock consideration, predominantly underpinned by a two-tranche allocation of FGR stock on achieving strict MITO product sales targets over a 24-month period.
