Mount Vernon Expands In Trion, Invests In Chemical Business

Mount Vernon Mills Inc., Mauldin, S.C., announced an expansion at its Trion, Ga.-based location. The expansion — which was a result of year-over-year growth for 2018 — includes 4,500 square feet of production space that will house state-of-the-art flame
resistant (FR) equipment for a capacity increase of 20 percent. The expansion is expected to be complete during the third quarter of 2019 with production beginning soon after.

“This is an exciting time for Mount Vernon FR, but our rapid growth has presented challenges with space to accommodate the equipment required to manufacture an ever-expanding range of FR products,” said Mike Woods, vice president of flame
resistant fabrics for Mount Vernon FR. “This additional square footage will allow us to better serve current and future customer demand.”

In other company news, Mount Vernon Chemicals has also announced capacity increases as well as upgrades at two U.S. facilities. The Apollo Chemical Division recently completed an expansion at its Burlington, N.C.-based plant that increases production by approximately 20 percent; while the PhilChem Division has increased its dry-blending/repackaging capacity in Greer, S.C., with the addition of a stainless-steel blending line.

“Our customers demand a growing, reliable supply of high performance
processing materials that enable them to innovate confidently,” said Mike Zavaglia, vice president and general manager, Apollo. “Investing in our production facilities and supply chain capabilities allows us to stay at the forefront of the markets we serve and meet our customer’s long-term ambitions as they grow their business.”
