Griva Implements Alien® RFID Fabric-Tracking System

Italy-based Griva S.p.A., a
manufacturer of finished fabrics for drapery and upholstery applications, recently installed and
implemented the Alien® radio frequency identification (RFID) reader and tag system — the world’s
first EPC-compliant roll-tracking application — from Alien Technology Corp., Morgan Hill, Calif.,
in partnership with Italy-based RFID tracking and data collection systems developer Simet. As a
result, Griva reports it has realized a 30-percent return on investment in the form of increased
fabric roll traceability and time savings.

Using Alien’s 8800 ultra-high frequency passive reader/writer and electronic product
code-compliant Gen 2 Squiggle® tags, Griva now is able to trace a fabric roll from the start of the
production process through shipment, rather than relying on traditional bar code technology,
ensuring each roll undergoes the correct treatments and processes.
