RadiciSpandex Announces Design Competition Winners

RadiciSpandex Corp., Gastonia, N.C., has named winners of the 2009 Stretch to the Future Design
Scholarship Competition, held with junior class design students at The Fashion School of Kent State
University, Kent, Ohio, to promote apparel design using fabrics containing spandex.

Honorary judges were Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, designers and founders of Brooklyn,
N.Y.-based womenswear label Vena Cava. The Underfashion Club sponsored the contest’s Lingerie
Award.

Five winners were chosen from a field of 30 students. Fabrics used contain RadiciSpandex’s
RadElast® spandex. Alexandria Kakoules’ swimsuit using fabrics from Darlington Fabrics, took the
Grand Prize. Christine Barbas received the Activewear Award for a zip-up vest, long-sleeve top and
leggings ensemble using fabrics from Darlington, Gehring Textiles, Paul Gottlieb and Sextet
Fabrics. Chelsea Paskvan’s swimsuit and cover-up using fabrics by Sextet won the Swimwear Award.
Brittney Sampsel’s bustier and panty made using Sextet and Cyberknit fabrics took the Lingerie
Award. Jenna Weickert’s gown designed in black stretch fabric from Darlington won the Eveningwear
Award.
