CiCLO® Technology Expands Across Home Textiles From Market Week To Climate Week

NEW YORK — September 10, 2026 — Intrinsic Advanced Materials is expanding the commercial reach of CiCLO® technology across home and hospitality textiles this September with ADVANSA and HeiQ, followed by its partnership with Lonely Whale’s Fashion the Future activation during NYC Climate Week.

CiCLO® technology expands across home textiles with ADVANSA’s Suprelle® fiberfill made with CiCLO® fibers and new opportunities to pair CiCLO fibers with HeiQ functional technologies.

ADVANSA is introducing Suprelle® fiberfill made with CiCLO fibers, extending CiCLO technology into an established premium fiberfill portfolio designed around comfort and performance. At the same time, a collaboration with HeiQ Materials AG is creating opportunities to pair CiCLO fibers with functional technologies that address specific product needs, including cooling, moisture management, freshness and allergen reduction.

Together, the developments give manufacturers, brands and retailers more ways to create products around specific consumer needs while incorporating CiCLO technology designed to help reduce microplastic fiber persistence.

Microplastic fiber pollution caused by the shedding of synthetic textiles is one of the most prevalent forms of microplastic pollution. CiCLO® technology is a patented textile ingredient integrated into polyester and nylon fibers during manufacturing. It creates pathways designed to accelerate biodegradation when microplastic fibers enter end-of-life environments with moisture and microorganisms, reducing their persistence. Third-party laboratories independently test CiCLO fibers using recognized ASTM and ISO methods.

ADVANSA Adds CiCLO® Technology to Suprelle® Fiberfill Portfolio

ADVANSA is introducing Suprelle® fiberfill made with CiCLO® fibers for bedding, home and hospitality applications, bringing CiCLO technology into an established premium fiberfill portfolio built around comfort and performance.

The Suprelle portfolio gives product developers a range of fiberfill options designed around specific product needs, including cooling, down-like comfort, adaptable support, lasting loft and resilience, lightweight support, moisture management and recycled fiber options. This allows brands and retailers to select the comfort and performance attributes appropriate for pillows, comforters and other bedding products while incorporating CiCLO fibers.

“Our customers want fiberfill that delivers the comfort and performance consumers expect while helping support broader environmental priorities,” said Jean-Christophe Rouyer, head of global business development at ADVANSA. “Adding CiCLO technology gives them another way to differentiate Suprelle products without changing the core benefits of the fiberfill.”

HeiQ Collaboration Expands Functional Possibilities

Intrinsic Advanced Materials is also collaborating with Swiss materials innovator HeiQ to explore how CiCLO fibers can be paired with functional technologies across home, hospitality and apparel applications.

The collaboration gives manufacturers and brands access to a range of performance possibilities, including cooling and thermal comfort, allergen reduction, odor control and freshness, moisture management and faster drying.

Combined, the technologies create opportunities across bed linens, pillows, mattress protectors, mattress toppers, mattress ticking and apparel products. Product developers can select functionality based on application needs while incorporating CiCLO fibers designed to help reduce microplastic fiber persistence.

“Brands are looking for ways to build more functionality into products without adding complexity,” said Mike Abbott, executive vice president of advanced materials and general manager, HeiQ USA. “Combining HeiQ technologies with CiCLO fibers gives developers more flexibility to create products around the performance benefits their customers value.”

From Market Week to Climate Week

The conversation continues during NYC Climate Week, where Intrinsic Advanced Materials is partnering with Lonely Whale’s Fashion the Future activation at PlanetHAUS, Sept. 21 and 22. The activation is open for drop-in visits from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Register here: https://luma.com/7g8kexs0

CiCLO technology will be featured within The Fashion Stream, an educational experience that follows textiles through upstream, production and downstream stages. Positioned within the production stage, CiCLO technology illustrates how innovation introduced when synthetic fibers are made can address microplastic fiber persistence if those fibers later enter the environment.

The Market Week collaborations demonstrate CiCLO technology moving into commercially relevant products, while Fashion the Future connects that adoption to the larger challenge of microplastic fiber pollution and the role material choices can play in reducing persistence.

“CiCLO sets a new industry paradigm,” said Cheryl Smyre, vice president of Parkdale Advanced Materials. “Our collaboration with ADVANSA and HeiQ intersects highly functional chemistries and fiber performance with science to accelerate practical textile solutions. Our work with Lonely Whale’s Fashion the Future amplifies awareness and represents a vital step forward in tackling the broader microplastic fiber crisis.”

The Digital Smart Jacket Not Only Aids Rehabilitation, But Also Looks Good

AACHEN, Germany — September 11, 2026 — As part of the PhysioTaix research project, the Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University is developing a digital smart jacket with integrated sensors. The jacket is washable and reusable; it tracks movements during rehabilitation exercises in real time and transmits the data to an app.

© Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University

Artificial intelligence is used to analyze and evaluate the movements. Patients receive immediate feedback on their exercises and are better able to assess their performance independently.

The sensors are integrated directly into the jacket. Instead of attaching several individual sensors to the body, the smart jacket is simply put on.

Benefits for therapists

The movement data recorded by the Smart Jacket can provide therapists with additional objective information and assist them in assessing the progress of rehabilitation.

Trial phase and practical applicability

The scientific and technical development of PhysioTaix is being carried out by the ITA. During the development phase, the project team is working closely with rehabilitation centres, healthcare professionals and other experts to ensure that PhysioTaix can be effectively used in practice once it is ready.

The smart jacket and the digital application are being developed and further tested in the modular smart textiles workshop at the Digital Innovation Centre Europe (DICE). There, students can play a direct part in the development of smart textiles and gain practical experience in the development process.

What happens next?

PhysioTaix will continue to be developed and tested until February 2027. Once the project is complete, potential applications will be further assessed, particularly in collaboration with clinics and health insurance providers.

Background

© Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University

Rehabilitation takes time and, above all, requires a great deal of repetition. Many exercises are therefore carried out at home, outside of therapy sessions. However, therapists cannot guide their patients through every single movement. Without direct feedback, it is difficult for many patients to assess whether they are performing an exercise correctly. This is where the digital smart jacket can provide targeted support.

NRF: Import Cargo’s Peak Season Not Over Yet

WASHINGTON — September 9, 2026 — This year’s extended peak season is continuing, with a final bump expected this month that could push September just over the line to be the busiest month of the year for import volume at the nation’s major container ports, according to the Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

“We thought the peak season would be mostly behind us by now, but that’s not the case,” NRF Vice President for Supply Chain and Customs Policy Jonathan Gold said. “Some of the shift from earlier in the summer to now is because of vessel delays due to bad weather in China and some rerouting away from the Panama Canal amid potential drought conditions there. But consumers keep buying despite tariffs, inflation and high fuel prices, and retailers keep bringing in merchandise to meet demand.”

“Imports have remained buoyant over the past three months despite several hurdles,” Hackett Associates Founder Ben Hackett said, citing tariff increases along with inflation and rising fuel prices related to the conflict in Iran. “Retail sales remain strong and cargo is moving relatively smoothly, although there are reports of vessel delays and increased times required for cargo to move through the supply chain.”

U.S. ports covered by Global Port Tracker handled 2.3 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units — one 20-foot container or its equivalent — in July, the latest month for which final numbers are available. That was down 3.9% from a year earlier but up 3.2% from June.

Ports have not yet reported August numbers, but Global Port Tracker projected the month at 2.29 million TEU, down 1.3% year over year. September is forecast at 2.31 million TEU, up 9.6% year over year and slightly ahead of July as the busiest month of the year.

As recently as last month, it appeared that May’s 2.24 million TEU would be the busiest month of 2026 as retailers brought in merchandise early ahead of potential increases in tariffs. But high import levels continued, stretching out the peak season to its traditional timing of late summer and early fall.

Cargo volume is expected to drop to 2.11 million TEU in October, but will still be up 1.7% year over year. November is forecast at 2 million TEU, down 0.9% year over year, and December at 2.03 million TEU, up 1.1% over last year. Those numbers would bring 2026 to a total of 25.7 million TEU, up 1% from last year’s 25.4 million TEU. The first half of 2026 totaled 12.7 million TEU, up 1.1% from the same period in 2025.

January 2027 is forecast at 2.09 million TEU, down 1% year over year.

Global Port Tracker, which is produced for NRF by Hackett Associates, provides historical data and forecasts for the U.S. ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle and Tacoma on the West Coast; New York/New Jersey, Port of Virginia, Charleston, Savannah, Port Everglades, Miami and Jacksonville on the East Coast, and Houston on the Gulf Coast. The report is free to NRF retail members, and subscription information is available at NRF.com/PortTracker. Subscription information for non-members can be found at www.globalporttracker.com.

As the leading authority and voice for the retail industry, NRF analyzes economic conditions affecting the industry through reports such as Global Port Tracker.

Heberlein: Advanced DTY Jet Technology And A New Service Hub Bring Performance And Technical Support Closer To Customers

WATTWIL, Switzerland — September 9, 2026 — Heberlein, a globally recognized provider of air interlacing and air texturing jets for synthetic filament yarns, is consolidating its success in the Chinese market with its APh- and APe-series for DTY applications. Particularly in the field of Air Covering, Heberlein technologies combine excellent quality with significant savings in compressed-air consumption. A new service hub in Shengze City underlines the company’s long-term commitment in the Chinese market.

Over the past 20 years, Heberlein has achieved considerable success in China. The Swiss brand stands for innovation, reliability and trust. Heberlein DTY jets are used both for the retrofitting of existing facilities and in new investments. Compressed-air consumption is an important KPI for mills, as compressed air is a cost-intensive resource. Heberlein’s compressed-air-saving technology therefore gives its solutions a major competitive advantage. Heberlein will present its successful APh- and APe-series at upcoming ITMA Asia + CITME 2026.

Air Covering for required yarn qualities

Heberlein Air Covering Solutions

Demand for Air Covering has been high in the Chinese market. Air Covering combines elastane with a covering yarn by interlacing the two components at regular intervals using a controlled air jet. The resulting yarns offer good stretch, comfort and surface properties. They are widely used in leggings and sportswear, underwear, hosiery and socks. Other applications include stretch fabrics for trousers and jeans, elasticated cuffs, as well as medical and compression textiles.

Air Covering offers a wide range of functional properties and allows the yarn structure to be precisely adapted to the requirements of the final application. Air pressure, jet geometry, overfeed, elastane draft and production speed can all be adjusted to achieve the desired level of interlacing and yarn performance. The resulting integrated yarn is also easy to process in subsequent knitting and weaving operations.

SlideJet-FT15-2 with the APe-series

The success of the APh-series can be explained by its ability to either offer higher knot stability or reduced compressed-air consumption. Lower compressed-air consumption and operating costs are key objectives for most spinners. Extensive comparative data has shown that, when using, for example, PES dtex 330f96, and APh213 reduces air consumption by up to 10%. The treatment supports more reliable downstream processing or lower operating costs. Heberlein experts will be pleased to evaluate the potential for specific yarn specifications.

No compromises in air interlacing

Another success story is the APe-series. Here too, Heberlein’s sophisticated technology delivers significant compressed-air savings. Several tests have confirmed a reduction of up to 15% in compressed-air consumption. While the jets help minimise the use of this cost-intensive resource, there are no compromises in terms of yarn quality. The investment in the new range of Advanced Performance DTY interlacing jets pays for itself within 18 months, making it an attractive investment for optimum profitability.

Visitors to ITMA Asia + CITME 2026 are invited to consult Heberlein experts for an evaluation of their mill-specific improvement potential in terms of processes, costs and quality. Heberlein looks forward to welcoming interested visitors at Booth D41 in Hall H6.1 at ITMA Asia + CITME in Shanghai, China, from November 20 to 24, 2026.

Local access to Heberlein services in China

Heberlein is moving even closer to its important Chinese market with a new service hub in Shengze City. Since August 2026, the new facility strengthens customer service by providing local access to technical support and product expertise, as well as fast, hands-on assistance whenever needed. The hub offers quick-response service visits, minor maintenance work and cleaning.

The Chinese hub is equipped with a portable air generator, an ultrasonic cleaning system, an airflow meter and an air splicer, enabling service activities and practical testing directly on site. The team provides prompt troubleshooting support and close technical assistance during product trials. This enables solutions to be tested and implemented efficiently.

“We have opened the service hub in China as part of our long-term commitment to the Chinese market. The new service hub enables us to provide faster response times, stronger technical support and closer customer interaction,” says Martin Zuercher, CEO at Heberlein.
