Cone Denim Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary Of S GENE® Technology

GREENSBORO, N.C. — June 22, 2017 — Cone Denim is excited to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its revolutionary S GENE® technology, developed and first introduced by Cone Denim in 2007. The advancement of this performance technology has included Level II S GENE® introduced in 2015 and the latest and most advanced power stretch denim incorporating S GENE® + (Plus) yarns introduced this year, representing the latest evolution of the S GENE dual-core stretch yarn technology.

S GENE+ denim fabrics feature exceptional stretch and recovery performance along with the added benefit of increased strength. Additionally, the polyester component of the newest S GENE+ yarns is 100-percent recycled, making for the most sustainable superior stretch Cone Denim fabric yet.

Cone Denim’s S GENE innovation was the first of its kind, originally introducing S GENE denim fabrics in 2007. S GENE yarn with dual core technology is designed to provide superior stretch and recovery. To create these yarns Cone starts with two core components — spandex and continuous filament which optimizes stretch and maximizes recovery. The dual-core yarn is wrapped in a spun covering to provide soft cotton hand and natural appearance with added stretch performance.

“Our S GENE technology continues to revolutionize stretch denims,” said Kara Nicholas, vice president product design + marketing. “Using innovative stretch technology hidden within the yarn, we virtually eliminated ‘bagging knee’ syndrome and created a new standard for superior shape retention and recovery performance. Level II S GENE technology elevated the performance of stretch to the next level with 25-percent increased stretch power and unleashed denim fabrics that conform, slim and shape but with unbelievable power and comfort.

Nicholas continued: “This year we are launching S GENE+ in celebration of the technology’s 10-year anniversary. This newest stretch innovation brings sustainability to stretch. We are committed to developing S GENE denims using 100-percent recycled polyester content, offering a new level of eco-conscious denim to the marketplace.”

Other S GENE innovations include CONEFLEX™ denim utilizing S GENE technology. These denims feature stretch yarns in the warp and the weft providing 360-degree, four-way advanced stretch. CONEFLEX fabrics have low shrinkage, excellent recovery and give garments better shape retention across multiple fits, all with the authentic look and feel of traditional 100% cotton denim.

Oiselle & Polartec Announce ‘Birdstrike’ Film In Partnership With REI

SEATTLE — June 8, 2017 — Polartec, a provider of innovative textile solutions, and Oiselle, a women’s athletic apparel company, announced the release of Birdstrike, a short film about the first female team to win The Speed Project. The Speed Project is an unsanctioned, unsupported, 340-mile ultra relay from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Going into its third year, no all-female team had ever taken on the course. Oiselle and Polartec worked together to field a team wearing Polartec® Delta™ cooling fabric and show the world that women were up for the challenge of racing the course in extreme temperatures.

The two companies formed an all-female team named Birdstrike. The team included six racers and six crew members, comprised of a mix of amateurs and professional Oiselle runners such as Lauren Fleshman and Devon Yanko. After Oiselle announced the team, all-female squads were also fielded by Nike and Strava. With more than 20 teams racing the course, a route that took the racers through Death Valley during peak temperatures, success at the 2017 Speed Project required every competitive advantage, including Oiselle’s apparel made with Polartec® Delta™, a special fiber and yarn construction engineered to enhance the body’s natural evaporative cooling process.

“Oiselle’s pursuit of creating quality products for female runners sets them apart in a crowded market and has led to exciting collaborative development work with Polartec,” says Polartec CEO Gary Smith. “They continuously ask for our best when designing for the athletes they serve, and as such they’ve become a valued customer.”

“We’ve always been interested in women charting new territory,” says Oiselle Founder & CEO Sally Bergesen. “The Speed Project was an opportunity to show women’s skills and ability, both individually and as a team, on a new stage. Polartec’s support and technology were key in our participation in this race. That course demanded everything of our athletes, and the apparel, like the women, stood up to the challenge.”

Team Birdstrike’s experience is documented in the short film, which will debut at REI as a part of their Force Of Nature campaign. The film will be exclusively screened at REI Flagship stores prior to a digital release on June 23, first at REI Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, June 14, followed by a screening at REI Seattle on Thursday, June 22. The evenings will include a never-before-seen look at the short film, a Q&A panel with the team, crew and Polartec fabric specialists, as well as a special reveal of what’s next for the team.

Web Industries Targets 4th Quarter Launch For New Large Format Spooler

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – June 21, 2017 – Manufacturers of diapers, feminine pads, medical facemasks, adult incontinence and related health and hygiene products looking to achieve greater yield from their nonwoven and hygienic materials, additional uptime for their production equipment and speed to market will have a powerful new large format spooling (LFS) resource available at Web Industries by Q4 2017.

The LFS, currently under construction at Web Industries’ Ft. Wayne, Ind., plant, will occupy roughly 10,000 square foot of floor space. Custom designed by Web Industries to process and quickly turnaround large-volume wide-web orders, the proprietary design incorporates state-of-the-art slitting technology, improved individual web control and unique material handling capabilities for spools of large width and OD that maximize customers’ run time.

The large-scale spooler unwinds, slits to customer specifications and then precisely rewinds materials onto cores for shipment to consumer goods manufacturers, where the material is fabricated into finished parts or goods.

“Large format spooling is gaining popularity among major manufacturers of diapers and other consumer products for the yield and equipment uptime benefits it can deliver,” said Tom Lucas, Web Industries’ project manager overseeing the spooler’s construction. “The marketplace is expanding and there’s more demand for LFS. With our new spooler, we are creating more capacity to match the demand. One of our advantages is that we can spool material on a very large scale. We can unwind, slit and wind a lot of spools very quickly.”

Lucas notes that hygiene product manufacturers typically work with Web Industries’ engineers to select the best material, based on price and specifications, such as tensile strength, absorption, basis weight, softness and processability, to find the optimum solution. “Selecting the right material is a key consideration for our manufacturer customers,” he says. “There is a lot to choose from, and we provide experienced assistance in the materials selection process. We are flexible in material source and manage the supply chain for our customer.”

Web Industries’ Vice President, Sales, Jason Surman added: “We continue to see strong demand for new hygiene products in North America. In this environment, Web’s large format spools will help increase our customers’ line efficiencies and lower their total cost. Equally important, our investment in additional capacity will allow us to meet their growing market needs and provide exceptional quality with a wide flexibility in materials.”

Large format versus smaller format

With smaller format spooling, product manufacturers load a smaller quantity of slit material into their production equipment, and then splice and affix incoming rolls as the material plays out. Compared with LFS, this process wastes material before and after the splice, and can require machinery downtime to complete the transfer.

“A diaper manufacturer might lose 20 diapers during a splice,” Lucas said. “Our new LFS, with its precision slitting and rewinding, provides splices that are useable. This facilitates longer runs between roll changes and, therefore, longer production runs. We can achieve lengths of materials in hundreds of thousands of feet.”

Web Industries’ new LFS has advanced spooler technology with sophisticated programming that manages a spool’s traversing motion as material is laid onto it. Programming parameters can be very specific to enable materials to pay out at certain speeds and be processed in ways that will not crush or twist a web. The system can process materials having very light tensions in a wide range of slit widths on high-speed diaper and consumer product manufacturing lines.

LIM College To Offer Online Associate Degree In Fashion Merchandising & Management

NEW YORK CITY — June 21, 2017 — LIM College, located in New York City and focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, has announced that it will offer its first fully online associate degree program — the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Fashion Merchandising & Management. The first classes in the new program begin August 28, 2017.

The 61-credit AAS includes courses in marketing, visual merchandising, human resources, and retail management, as well as an internship in a retail or corporate setting. Courses will be taught by expert faculty who bring decades of experience in the business of fashion to their virtual classrooms. New students will be able to enroll at six points during the year. Full-time students will complete the program in four semesters throughout two calendar years. Part-time students will be able to complete their degree at their own pace.

Says LIM College President Elizabeth S. To keep pace with this shifting educational landscape, our new online associate degree will bring the LIM undergraduate experience to distance learners, allowing them to pursue their educational goals wherever and whenever they are ready.”

The online associate degree program is intended for students who are older than traditional college freshmen and may already have work experience, particularly in the retail sector. Graduates will be empowered to advance within their current organizations, or seek more responsible positions at other fashion-related companies. The degree could also open up opportunities in areas of the fashion business beyond retail — such as sales, marketing, merchandising or public relations — or serve as a foundation to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

The Future Of Composites In Construction: CHOMARAT And ALTUS GROUP Present CARBONCAST® 20-22 June 2017 in Chicago, Illinois

LE CHEYLARD, France — June 20, 2017 — At the “Future of Composites in Construction” trade show, Chomarat and Altus Group are presenting CarbonCast®, their flagship line of reinforced-concrete prefabricated wall panels, reinforced with Chomarat’s C-GRID® carbon-fiber grids. A recent army-hospital project in Greenville, S.C., is another success story of this innovative product: 18,600 square meters, 200,000 square feet, of precast insulated panels were installed in record time. Come and learn more about it at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center, Chicago, Stand C 10, on June 20-22 2017.

The Advantages Of The Carboncast Line Reinforced Exclusively With C-GRID®

“Reducing installation time, improving the fire and safety performance, increasing the service life of structures, and cutting energy consumption are crucial criteria in the choice of a CarbonCast solution,” explains Altus Group Executive Director John Carson.

CarbonCast panels are classified ASHRAE 90.1. Thanks to the low thermal conductivity of carbon fiber, C-GRID reinforced panels offer excellent thermal performance, providing uniform insulation and, therefore, a comfortable, energy-efficient building.

The carbon grid developed by Chomarat replaces wire-mesh reinforcement. The grid’s corrosion-proof properties make it possible to decrease the thickness of the concrete, rendering the prefabricated panels lighterweight than standard prefabricated panels. This means that less cement and raw

materials are required, and also less energy consumed to produce, transport and assemble the panels.

Success In The United States

One of the latest successes of CarbonCast in the United States is the Martin Army Community Hospital in Greenville, with more than 18,600 square meters of prefabricated panels. “The contractor decided on CarbonCast insulated panels, otherwise the hospital project could never have been finished on time with another system. We take pride in the knowledge that C-GRID provides a durable, cost-effective solution for a large number of buildings in the United States”, says John Leathan, director of sales and marketing at Chomarat North America.

Since AltusGroup was established in 2004, more than 3.7 million square meters of C-GRID reinforced insulated wall panels, cylindrical piles and Double Tee components have been installed in 1,200 different projects.
