Fiber To Fabrics Summer Series — Hands-On Technical Textiles: Spinning
Organized by NC State's Zeis Textile Extension This hands-on course covers short staple yarn manufacturing in the modern spinning facility at the Wilson College of Textiles. Attendees will work on manually operating machines. This course will cover opening, carding, drawing, roving, and spinning. Course participants will complete the process of creating yarn from fiber.

This course introduces you to the design and programming of flat-knitted 3D technical textiles, an emergent technology with broad applications, to produce products for niche applications. Each of the four training days will focus on a different type of Shima Seiki machine. Receive intensive training of design structures from the selection of materials to the application technique, to prototype development. Educate yourself and/or your employees in a hands-on course covering an array of Shima Seiki equipment.

Through hands-on learning, this course teaches the beginning-to-end processes of weaving. Participants will cover sizing, warp prep, drawing in, slaying the reed, and tying in. They will assist in machine set-up and production of woven materials. This class includes tutorials on a variety of weaving machinery.

Organized by NC State's Zeis Textile Extension The Smart Textiles Immersive Workshop is a three-day experience where students will learn about the history of smart textiles, the market and applications of smart textiles, commercially available state of the art products, the latest in academic research, electronic and textile fundamentals, integration techniques, and challenges and opportunities for future innovation. Students will design and build their own smart systems to apply the knowledge they learned over the course.
