Valdese Weavers Celebrates 100 Years

VALDESE, N.C. — June 1, 2015 — Valdese Weavers celebrates 100 years of remarkable people, products and innovation this year. It’s a landmark anniversary most companies never achieve, but not only does Valdese Weavers remain a player, it’s also at the top of its game as the leader in decorative jacquards for residential and commercial markets.

“All of us at Valdese Weavers have an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate this milestone,” said President and CEO Michael Shelton. “And to be at the helm of a company in this position is a privilege, and a responsibility to ensure the organization thrives for another century.”

The observance begins with the unveiling of a new company logo, and the renovation of the company’s High Point showrooms, with all brands now showing on the 6th floor of Market Square Towers. In the coming months many celebrations will follow, from employee events to town celebrations, exhibits and the creation of an anniversary book.

“It’s important to document the legacy of Valdese Weavers,” said Shelton. “The company boasts a powerful story from its roots as an immigrant startup to a leading role in the decorative textiles industry.”

Valdese Weavers began in 1915 as the Waldensian Swiss Embroidery Company, a lace and embroidery manufacturer developed by Italian immigrants. Twenty years later, Harley Shuford purchased the company and changed its name to Valdese Weavers Inc., introducing jacquard woven fabrics to the company’s product line.

Today, Valdese Weavers is the largest decorative jacquard textile mill in North America and the leader in the design and manufacturing of jacquard fabrics for residential and commercial markets. Its six branded companies — Valdese Weavers, Valdese Weavers Contract, Circa 1801, Home Fabrics, Valdese International Products (VIP) and Dicey Fabrics — develop fabrics from value to high-end price points and cover the residential, contract, hospitality, health care and specialty markets.
