McAllister Mills Announces Expansion, New Jobs

Independence, Va.-based McAllister Mills Inc. — a producer of heat-resistant materials for demanding environments using alumina, silica, basalt, glass, aramids and biosoluble fibers —reports it will invest $1.05 million to acquire and renovate a 33,000-square-foot building to house new automation technology and equipment. The expansion will result in 16 new jobs.

“Thirty-five years in Grayson County, McAllister Mills has successfully grown to be a world leader in thermal insulating and fire protection technologies and systems,” said Alec McAllister, president and owner, McAllister Mills. “This growth has been enabled by the strong work ethic and commitment of the employees of McAllister Mills, and we are poised to bring new technologies to the market with our upcoming expansion.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Grayson County, Va., and Virginia’s aCorridor — a marketing region incorporating six counties and two cities —to help bring the investment to the county. A $110,000 Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds grant also was approved by the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.
