TSG Expands Pre-shrink And Softening Capacity

TSG Finishing LLC, Philadelphia, has added capacity on its specialty finishing range in Hickory, N.C., to enable increased pre-shrinking and softening of natural- and man-made-fiber fabrics.

TSG has been shrinking and softening wool fabrics since 1901, starting with men’s suiting fabrics. Since the   1980s, the family-owned business has been treating wool dress uniform fabric for the U.S. Armed Forces.

The company reports its processing machinery is able to shrink fabrics in a tensionless environment while at the same time softening them. Other applications can be added including abrasion enhancers, antimicrobials, flame retardants, stain repellents and other proprietary technologies.

“The growth trend that wool and other natural fibers are experiencing reflects a need for domestic finishing options,” said Bud Styles, director of sales, noting that TSG is focusing on apparel, wall covering, home fashions, filtration, geotextiles, ballistics, automotive and industrial applications.

“The interesting thing we are seeing is that a process originally engineered for wool fabrics is doing remarkable things for other natural fibers as well as synthetics,” he added. “The finish we apply has much broader applications than ever thought.”
